Regan Smith is a writer and poet based in Columbus, Ohio. She performs spoken word poetry within the city, hosts write night readings, and is always steeping a botanical tea blend.
She is also the author of the poetry collections: Morning Air, Morning Light, Cloudland, A Poem for When You Need It Most.
A Poem for When You Need It Most bears in mind what poetry is often most valuable for: human connection. Life can feel like a very individual, lonely experience at times, even when there are great things going on. This collection explores that, offering a sense of companionship during difficult times, like when you are grieving, and through joyful times.
From the beginning, the collection "invite[s] you to take a walk" with the narrator, to bake in the "afternoon sun / beneath a butternut tree," and to be "taken aback by this breathless beauty" that surrounds us. A Poem for When You Need It Most is a place to turn when life feels like it is hardening you and leaving you in the cold, and it is a place to go when you want nothing more than to share your gratitude for life on this earth with someone else. You can earmark pages for your every emotion so that you always have a companion, no matter where you are in life.
Just as Regan expresses that she is grateful we are here, so too are we grateful for her.
Regan's 'A Poem for When You Need It Most' is a deeply moving, honest, and comforting collection that speaks to readers at every stage of life. I was fortunate enough to receive an ARC of her book, and I fell in love with the way she captures what it means to pause, notice, and give ourselves permission—to heal, to grieve, to simply be human. Her words are beautifully touching, and very well-written, and her prose radiates heart in a fresh, encouraging way, leaving the reader both heard and inspired. This book has a medicinal quality; if you're seeking to feel understood and comforted, this is a must-read.
thank you, Regan, for an ARC of A Poem For When You Need It Most ✨️✒️🩷
review: "a beautiful little book of poems. there is truly something for every reader: those in grief, in joy, in growth...regan's subtle but potent prose packages up the human experience into sweet little bites of poetry. I will go back to these poems when I need them most. 4.5/5 ⭐️"

This is a beautiful collection of poetry that speaks to the heart! I especially enjoyed reading “healing is hard work” and “molting.” Each section guides the reader through pieces specifically written to help with the range of emotions we face. Excellent!
