ARC Review - Thank you to Hannah for sharing this book with me in exchange for an honest review!
Book four slides in seamlessly, which honestly surprised me. Even after time away from the series, I found it easy to reconnect with the characters and the emotional threads that have been building since the beginning. Hannah Haze has a real talent for grounding you quickly, making the story feel familiar without relying too heavily on recap.
This installment leans hard into emotion and relationship dynamics, and that’s where it shines most. The bonds between characters deepen in meaningful ways, and there are several moments that feel long-awaited — especially when it comes to quieter, more vulnerable interactions. There’s tenderness here, and patience, and a sense of earned intimacy that made certain scenes genuinely moving.
One arc in particular finally gets the space it deserves, and I loved seeing that growth unfold. It wasn’t rushed, it wasn’t flashy — just steady, heartfelt progression. Those moments of reassurance, trust, and mutual understanding were easily my favorite parts of the book.
The scope of the story expands beyond what we’ve seen before, giving the narrative a broader sense of movement and urgency. While the world-building itself still feels like a backdrop rather than the main focus, it serves its purpose well enough to support the character-driven storytelling that defines this series.
That said, I did feel a slight dip in the sharpness of the dialogue compared to earlier books. It didn’t ruin the experience, but it was noticeable at times. I also found myself wishing the FMC had stepped more fully into her confidence by now. At this point in the series, I wanted to see her trust herself a bit more, and while her journey is clearly ongoing, that hesitation began to feel repetitive.
Even so, the book remains engaging and emotionally charged. There are twists, tensions, and choices that kept me invested, and the ending leaves the story in a place that made me immediately curious about what comes next.
Overall, Lure of Lightning continues to build on the emotional core of the series, offering payoff in character relationships while setting the stage for higher stakes ahead. It’s not without its frustrations, but it still hooked me — and I’ll absolutely be picking up the next book to see where this all leads.
