He’s the scarred, reclusive duke the village is calling a monster. She’s the stubborn authoress determined to expose him.
The Duke of Bexley prefers his solitude, hiding behind the gates of Ironwood Manor and the rumors that keep the world at bay. If they believe he’s a beast, so be it.
Miss Rosamund Belle needs a story that will secure her inheritance—and the Beastly Duke is perfect. She isn’t afraid of his scars, his temper, or his brooding silence. She is simply determined to uncover the truth… even if it means pretending she’s a common miss to gain his trust.
But proximity sparks a heat neither of them expects, and when Rosamund’s falsehoods unravel (because ultimately, they always do), the line between love and betrayal shatters.

Married to the same man for over 25 years, I am a mother to three children and two Miniature Wiener dogs.
After owning a business and experiencing considerable success, my husband and I got caught in the financial crisis and lost everything in 2008; our business, our home, even our car.
At this point, I put my B.A. in Poly Sci to use and took work as a waitress and bartender (Insert irony). Unwilling to give up on a professional life, I simultaneously went back to college and obtained a degree in Energy Management.
And then the energy market dropped off.
And then my dog died.
I can only be grateful for this series of unfortunate events, for, with nothing to lose and completely demoralized, I sat down and began to write the romance novels which had until then, existed only my imagination. After publishing over twenty novels now, with one having been nominated for RWA’s Distinguished ™RITA Award in 2019, I am happy to tell you that I have finally found my place in life.
Thank you so much for being a part of my journey!

Mains: Julian Cavendish (Duke of Bexley) and Miss Rosamund Belle – This is a M/F relationship between a cishet hero and heroine Audiobook available (as of review posting)? No (Descriptions found at end of my review)
Should I read in order? I think this is fine alone – I have also read Eliana Piers contribution and there is some sister crossover but not a lot of page time. There is a freebie prequel novella called Curves for the Rival Duke that may be best to read first? I haven’t read it yet but will try to come back and note after I read it 😆
Basic plot: When Rosamund finds she must publish something under her own name, she chooses to clear the Beastly Duke’s name
Give this a try if you want: - historical romance – Regency – 1817 - Duke hero - author heroine - plus size heroine - scarred hero – he wears an eye patch and is missing an eye - woodworking hero - former soldier hero - gifts for her - pets – he has a cat and dog - average novella steam – 1 full scene
Ages: - he’s 6 years older but didn’t catch specific ages – would guess early and late 20s or so
First line: Lady Rosamund Belle was currently engaged in a staring contest with an oversized door knocker – a contest she was losing.
My thoughts: This was a fun and quick read! I loved Rosamund’s personality and the evolution of Julian seeing her clearly. I very much love when the hero gives gifts and his were very sweet.
I would have loved a bit more of them on page together interacting – they had close proximity as she stayed at his house most of the book but I wanted more dialogue between them I think? I know its a shorter story and hard to squeeze everything in but he was trying to avoid her in the beginning and I felt his absence more than I wanted to.
But overall a very adorable novella!
Random side note: I don’t like when there’s a scar or disability presented and it’s clearly absent from the cover. I know cover models are hard to match perfectly to the story, but I think this could be fine if the background hero picture wasn’t included or included half of his face.

Full break down on what my ratings above mean here: Overall: How I felt about it everything considered! Readability: How ‘readable’ was the book? Did I fly through it? Did I have to tell myself to pick it back up repeatedly? Were any passages confusing? (I will probably score like (1) is literally unreadable due to formatting/typing errors, etc (2) There were lots of errors that made it difficult to read OR It was extremely confusing and I had to reread passages to make sense of it OR I disliked it so much I had to bribe myself to keep reading (3) I didn’t really want to keep reading and would have preferred to abandon the read and start something else OR some minor continuity issues/confusion (4) I liked it fine, maybe a minor error or 2. I was happy to pick it up when I had time. (5) I never wanted to put this down. I thought about it when I wasn’t reading it. I hid in the bathroom from my kids to read. I threw inappropriate food at my children for dinner so I could read instead.) Feels: Totally subjective to each person but did the book give me any tingles? Any butterflies? Did it rip my heart out (in a good way?) Emotional depth: How well do I feel I know the characters at the end? How much did I feel their emotions throughout the story? Sexual tension: Again, subjective, but how strong was the wanting and longing to me between the characters? A book might have strong sexual tension without a single touch. Romance: Was there romance? Did romantic things happen? This can be actions/words/thoughts of the characters and again is subjective. Sensuality: This is how the intimate scenes are written. Kisses and sexual scenes – how sensual were they? Were they on the mechanical side? Was there emotional pull tied in? Were the details explicit or flowery? These are subjective but generally (1) too short to get a good judgment (2) not all what I'm looking for - very vague or flowery prose (3) either not explicit enough or not enough emotional pull (too mechanical/physically descriptive without the emotions) (4) what I love in a scene (5) absolute perfection - perfect balance of emotional longing and explicit descriptions Sex Scene Length: How long the bedroom scenes are (generally (1) is 1-3 sentences (2) is a few paragraphs to a page-ish (3) is about average, a few pages (4) more well developed scenes, quite a few pages with descriptions (5) the majority of the book takes place in the bedroom. This is always hard to tell for me on audio! Steam Scale: Generally, each flame is a scene. If scenes are super close together I sometimes combine them. If a scene is super short or so vague I don’t know what’s happening, I don’t count it. There’s some levels of grey but generally the number of flames is how many sex scenes there are (I max out at 5 so I’ll put a + after if there’s more than that)
A Beauty and the Beast retelling with a scarred Napoleonic War hero duke? PUT IT IN MY VEINS. Thanks to Annabelle Anders and the Busty Bodice Club team for the complimentary ARC of Curves for the Beastly Duke.
Lady Rosamund has finally received the task she’ll need to complete in order to receive her inheritance from her late father’s estate. The fourth of the eight Harrington sisters, her task is to write something and publish it under her own name—not the male pseudonym she usually uses. Rosamund knows exactly what she’ll write: an exposé on the Duke of Bexley. But she can’t tell him who she is. If he thinks the sister of a duke has come to spy on him, he’ll turn her out. So she modifies her pen name and tells him and his staff that she is a writer named Miss Rosamund Belle, there to set the record straight on the Duke’s management of his estates.
Julian, the reclusive Duke, has been isolated on his estate since he was injured while fighting Napoleon Bonaparte, leaving half his face scarred and one eye damaged. Now he is a noted recluse, seeing to his tenants and responsibilities while ignoring the outside world, including Parliament. When a buxom writer shows up on his doorstep looking to tell the world the truth about what is actually happening with his properties and stewardship, he initially tries to send her away. But there is something about this woman that draws him in, even when he knows he is too scarred and damaged for someone as bright and optimistic as Miss Belle.
I want 99% more scarred Napoleonic War heroes in my books. I’m not sure why I’m like this—why this particular type of man really works for me on the page—but I will devour a historical romance with a man who fought Napoleon every single time. Julian is the most elite kind of scarred hero because his injury is to half his face. So he knows the whole world can see what he would have looked like without the scars, and he is even surlier because of that. I love it.
Rosamund, similar to her sisters in the previous novellas, has worked hard to see herself as more than her mother’s disdain. Her father was the parent who really supported her and cared for her, but now that he’s gone, she is trying to figure out what’s next. I really enjoyed watching her navigate her relationship with her brother and sister-in-law, as well as her younger sisters. This was the first time we really got to know any of them since we’re in the middle of the Harrington sisters’ stories, and I enjoyed seeing their personalities on the page.
This novella was great. I really enjoyed all the Beauty and the Beast elements, the family dynamics, and, of course, Julian as the hero. The Busty Bodice Club keeps delivering. 5 stars.
Oh how I loved this version of beauty in the beast..
A curvy freckled outspoken reckless daughter of a Duke and a sister of a Duke, Lady Rosamond has been given a task to write an article in her own name.. She decides the only person who will do is the man everyone deems to be a monster however she knows he isn't, he is only damaged from the war. She just has to prove it to society. And to him.
Baxterly is determined he is a monster and a beast not only on the outside but on the inside.. And that's why he has hid away from everyone except for his servants and his tenants.. So when a beautiful curvy woman shows up at his door wanting to know about his life he is not only reluctant but he is terrified of the way she makes him feel..
Only thing is he doesn't know about her real name and he doesn't truly want to open up about his feelings.
Baxterly and Rosamond as they work together on the article discover not only things about himself but that they have passion for each other and there's something deeper between them besides just wanting to clear his name for society.
My heart really went out to the Duke because of how he was treated by society because of his war injuries and the way everyone just turned their back on him..
I'm really enjoying this series of curvy heriones who stand up for what they want and how they want it..
Annabelle Anders is one of the authors on my "favorite authors" list. I love her writing style. She has great stories and good sex. I’ve read 53 of her books and have been reading her since 2018. I'm so glad she is part of this series.
I liked Rosamund and Julian and their story. I wish it would have been a bit longer. I felt like their story wasn't finished. I really wanted more. Overall it was a good read and enjoyed it.
Ahh I love a scarred hero story and this one was excellent! The fourth book in the Busty Bodice Club of eight curvy sisters who get a letter set with a task to do from their deceased father in order for each of the women to get their inheritance.
Lady Rosamund (Rosa) Harrington has been tasked to write an article published under her own name about something to make a difference but she already knows that writing as a woman would not get the same respect as if it was written with a man’s name. She knew what she wanted to write about but she would have to use deception and manipulation to make it happen. She has always held a soft spot for Julian Cavendish, the Duke of Bexley. He has been reclusive since returning from the war with battle scars to his face. He now has the reputation of being bad tempered, with violent outbursts and possibly unstable. He doesn’t attend parliament as he should and there are rumours he might be unfit to hold his title.
Rosa goes to his home and tells him some truths and some not quite truths to try to get him to agree to her observing him in his daily routine for a week and write an article about what she sees to help people understand him better. She tells him about the rumours circulating and hopes her article will dispel the rumours. He doesn’t want her around but agrees to a compromise.
He just about tolerates her in the beginning, keeping his distance from her but noting how forward and strong willed she was. She was forthcoming and fearless. He was very truthful with her and while she is there, she sees the real man and not the rumours she has heard. He has a faithful hound and a cat who tolerates some but not all. I love to read about companion animals in stories. The couple get comfortable with each other’s presence and enjoy their time together.
Unfortunately her truth comes out and the trust between Julian and Rosa is shattered. Julian is livid and feels betrayed by Rosa. She hopes she has enough in her notes to write her article to make the difference she hoped it would but both Julian and Rosa wonder if their hearts will heal again and will Julian be able to forgive Rosa for her deception.
This novella was a great read. It had two strong willed characters that were kindred spirits, they just didn’t know it and how they needed each other until it might be too late. Rosa and Julian were both kind and caring people. This was a low angst read but packed a lot of emotions and a bit of steam in a short story. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to the next sister’s task.
I received a special copy from the author. I’m voluntarily leaving this review.
Rosamund “Rosa” Harrington needs to publish something meaningful under her own name to gain her inheritance. She decides to write an article about the Beastly Duke of Bexley. Rosa wants to banish the ugly, dark rumors circulating about Julian. She pretends to be a common miss to gain his reluctant cooperation. However, Rosa’s deception may unravel all her good intentions. Will Rosamund’s article change society’s outlook on Julian?
Julian Cavendish, Duke of Bexley, chooses to lead a life away from public scrutiny and societal speculation. He has accepted the moniker attached to him. Julian’s isolation is interrupted when a determined miss arrives at his doorstep, eager to write his story. The woman appears unfazed by his gruffness or the scar on his face. Julian distrusts Rosamund’s intentions, but he allows her to stay. Can Rosamund convince Julian that he is not beastly?
Rosamund pleasantly surprised me. I admire her determination to publish an article to prove the rumors about Julian false. She wanted the world to truly see the man beneath the scars. Yeah, Rosa went about it underhandly. But she meant no disrespect by it. Rosamund knew it was the only way she could gather the pertinent information about him.
It is no secret that I adore wounded/tortured hero types. And Julian did not disappoint me! My heart went out to him. War changed him both inside and out. I understand Julian’s need for solitude after the cruel speculations of his peers and the public. He knew that no matter how hard he protested, people would believe what they wanted. What I adore the most about Julian is how he did not allow his isolation to interfere with his ducal duties. He channeled all his focus onto his lands and tenants, doing what needed to be done for those dependent on him. Also, he had his wood carving hobby.
CURVES FOR THE BEASTLY DUKE is the fourth book in the BUSTY BODICE CLUB series. Each of the stories are written by a different author featuring full-figured sisters. This installment is written by Annabelle Anders, a new-to-me author. The Beauty and the Beast vibe made me eager to continue reading till the end.
4.5⭐️ I’m so very grateful to @annabelle.anders for the opportunity to read this novella as an ARC—this gem comes out April 28th, so go preorder!!
I really enjoyed this read. It may be a short novella, but it’s incredibly well written. This is the second book I’ve read from this author, and I can confidently say her writing style is consistently excellent—engaging, polished, and easy to get lost in. She has a way of pulling you into the story almost immediately, which is especially impressive given the shorter format. Also the plus size rep is always appreciated.
The characters are wonderfully done. Not only do Rosamund and Julian feel fully developed, but even the secondary characters are given enough depth to feel real, despite their limited page time. That’s not something every novella manages to achieve, so it really stood out to me.
I must admit, despite the story being only 154 pages, the writing makes it feel much more expansive. The pacing is well balanced, and the structure gives the impression of a longer, more detailed novel. The romance, in particular, surprised me—in such a short space, the author still manages to deliver a believable and satisfying slow burn, which is no small feat.
Rosamund was easily my favorite. She’s strong, stubborn, and independent, and I always love a heroine who stands her ground. Watching her navigate her situation was genuinely enjoyable. And Julian? Honestly, how could you not love him. He’s the perfect grumpy, wounded hero—guarded and rough around the edges, but with such a soft, tender core underneath. A total teddy bear at heart.
Bonus points for the animals—seriously, they might have stolen the show. The cutest and sassiest companions you could ask for (Sable, I’m absolutely looking at you 🖤).
My only small complaint is that I wish the ending had been a bit more fleshed out. I would have loved a little more detail and clarity, especially when it comes to Rosamund’s inheritance. It didn’t take away from my enjoyment, but it did leave me wanting just a bit more closure.
Hum, there is so much I could say about this wonderful story, but you reading the events in order without knowing what is coming will be so much better. The book description is really good and gives you the basics of what the book is about. This series is about sisters who are left tasks or missions by their late father that they must do to get their inheritance each task is just what each sister needs to bring her out of her shell to the woman she is meant to be. Rosemund is determined to do as her father asked to write something important and publish it under her own name, almost impossible for a woman in 1817. Julian Cavendish,Duke of Bexley lives at his estate with his hound, Argues and one very bossy cat, Sable. Since returning from the war, he has shut himself off from everyone. Few servants, and the house closed except for the few rooms he uses. The ton and other have spread rumors of the monster, a beast scared and going mad. Rosemund doesn’t believe the boy she knew could change that much. She is determined to write his story as rumors can turn dangerous when left to grow. He wants nothing to do with the woman who just shows up on his doorstep. Without an escort or companion! Rosamond knows lying is wrong but if she gave her real name, the duke would never talk to her. When secrets and lies along with the past come out, both will need to decide what is to be done. Wow, so much emotion, sadness, friendship and maybe love found or lost. To find out, grab a copy and get started. It’s quite a story, a little of beauty and the beast, mystery, and two people who never fit into society and don’t care. I received an ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
I'll never say no to a Beauty and the Beast retelling, and this one was cute!
Rosamund's mission from her father is to publish something under her own name (she's been using a male pen name up to this point), and she decides that she's going to use her words to rehab the image of Julian, the "beastly" duke who was injured in the service and has essentially become a recluse since. (Apparently there's rumors circulating in London about his being unfit to be a duke, I think? That part was a bit fuzzy, but she was worried that he was in danger of having his dukedom taken from him. Or something along those lines.)
Julian has no real interest in helping Rosamund out, but night is coming (that part was his fault, she was waiting for him to come talk to her for literal hours) and there's wolves in the forest (naturally), so of course she has to stay for dinner and then overnight. Because she's a freckled redhead and stubborn as heck, the next morning she wears him down and gets him to agree to her staying for 3 days.
Which accidentally turns into 4 days. Oops.
And then...things happen. As they do. ;)
I liked the two of them together; they were very sweet. He really had no chance against her sheer determination to succeed--probably because he's a big softie inside, and I mentioned the freckles? The ending was especially sweet; I really liked what he brings her and the ultimate choice she made with her article. I do wish we could have seen more here--some more exploration of Julian's "problem" (PTSD, probably? It's barely even touched on here) or an epilogue would have been fun--but ultimately this was a complete story, if a short one.
Rating: 4 stars / A-
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I sorely wanted to like this book. The plot was a fun and unique twist on the beauty and the beast trope. The set up was really great too, but unfortunately, I did not like Rosamund. Her plot line was being the sister who was too much, too brash, too inquisitive, too impulsive. I can get behind those characters and I enjoy seeing them get their HEA. However, I felt Rosamund was just hell bent on getting her way and using manipulation as a tactic. I just couldn’t come back from her scene in the kitchen with the cook. She deliberately flattered and talked the cook around so she could ask her questions without resistance. And the fact that she continually disregarded people’s wishes and requests. It was just too much for me. I realize that this is a fantasy and everyone should get a good ending, but she felt so much like a brat that I was rooting against her. It’s one thing to be misunderstood as a person, but an entirely different thing if you willfully choose to do what you want despite others requests for you to respect their boundaries. Not to mention she was knowingly deceptive about her heritage for much of the story. I really do not enjoy dishonesty from either main character. Her character was just not for me, but I realize others can and do feel differently.
While I scored the story with 2 stars, I do feel that the writing in general was good. I enjoyed Julian’s scarred hero vibe. I liked that there was a woman who wanted to help him be seen in a better light and who was willing to do something hard to accomplish that. I also appreciated a nod to the struggles of a war veteran. Those things were well done indeed.
This is a fantastic and enthralling Regency take on Beauty and the Beast.
The FMC is Rosamund “Rosa” Harrington. She is required to publish a meaningful piece of writing under her own name in order to obtain her inheritance from her late father. She chooses the often-maligned Julian Cavendish, Duke of Bexley. She’s heard rumors since his return from war that he’s a true beast of a man and is wanting to squash the rumors ride in society. She arrives at his estate, curvaceous, redheaded, freckled, and totally out of her depth. She doesn’t reveal her true identity and manages to invite him to cooperate with her for the sake of clearing his name. They find themselves being emotionally vulnerable and that leads to physical intimacy. However, once her identity is revealed, things go pear-shaped. Is there anything that can be done to regain his trust? Should she go ahead with her article? I loved her spirit and her relatability!
The MMC is Julian Cavendish, Duke of Bexley. He’s led a solitary life ever since his disfiguring injury in battle. When Rosamund arrives, his patience is pushed well past its limits and he balks at her attempts to get him to open up. At first. She seems quite forthright and extremely compassionate and well spoken, and is not deterred by appearance or his gruff exterior. He doesn’t trust her, but is persuaded to allow her to stay and gather material for this article she’s determined to write. Will she see the beast he truly is, or see the man behind all of the well constructed walls he’s put up? Julian is a fabulously tortured hero and it’s so worth it to learn all about him.
Curves for the Beastly Duke by Annabelle Anders Busty Bodice Club #4
~ Big smile on my face ~ I loved reading Rosamund and Julian’s story and can see them enjoying a happy life together ~ Great way to spend the afternoon ~
What I liked: * Lady Rosamund Belle Harrington: published author, bold, intrepid, determined, outspoken, acts before thinking, charming, warm, kind, empathetic, animal lover, attracted to Julian * Julian Cavendish, Duke of Bexley: war veteran, scarred by shrapnel, reclusive, protective, responsible, creative, woodworker, guarded, changed by war, attracted to Rosamund * The way Rosamund was able to connect with and communicate with people and animals no matter what station in life they might have * Finding out that the qualities of wood could be used to heat the pages * The compassion Julian showed to his tenants and the animals he rescued: Angus-his dog, Merlin-his horse, and Sable-his cat * That I became involved in the story, loved the characters and felt that they were perfect for and with one another * Realizing at the end of the story that there is a prequel that I should have read that probably has background information I would have benefited from knowing * All of it really…except…
What I didn’t like: * The way society labeled Julian and the unfounded rumors that followed him * Thinking about the mother of the eight sisters who sounds like she must have been difficult
Did I like this story? Yes Would I read more by this author? Yes
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review. 5 Stars
Rosalind has been publishing stories since before their father’s demise, so it’s no surprise her task has to do with writing – only now, it has to be under her own name and it has to be something meaningful. Rosa’s mind immediately turns to their neighbour Julian, her forever crush. He’s been a recluse ever since her returned home from war scarred and tormented, but the locals’ tales of the beastly duke have reached London and Society is starting to question Julian’s sanity. Rosa is determined to set his story straight.
To say she’s not welcome is an understatement – but this wily woman has her ways for finding the truth. She’s unafraid and stubborn, he’s impressed but wary.
So far, this was the most fully fleshed-out story of the four Busty Bodice novellas I’ve read – and the least fluffy. Loved that their romance felt like a slow burn even when it all happens in just four days. Loved the depth both MCs were given, their vulnerability behind a brave face, the tension and the animosity. He’s an excellent beast when he wants to be, and she’s very talented at poking the bear, but to discover – along with Rosa – what an intrinsically kind and caring man he truly is, was mesmerising. I melted then and there! Plus, that man can kiss! Oh my 🪭🪭🪭 The whole mess at the end was pretty brilliant as well. Rosa is a woman of her word, a girl with backbone, and I admire her for that!
My only regret is that I didn’t get to spend more time with them – a recurring theme in this series, and a compliment at that!
DISCLAIMER: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Beauty and the Beast has always been my favorite Disney movie. My best friend even gave me a Belle coffee mug for my birthday years ago. So when I was contacted by Annabelle Anders’ PA about reading an early copy of this book, I had to say yes! First because it’s Annabelle Anders. Obviously. And second because the book blurb had me in a choke hold.
Julian Cavendish is the scarred and recluse Duke of Bexley. After coming home from the war, he’s made a life out of hiding away at his estate, Ironwood Manor. Not caring what other people’s opinions of him are. Until Miss Rosamund Belle enters his life and begins to turn it upside down.
Rosamund needs to publish an article under her own name to gain her inheritance, and she chooses to write about the boy she met in the town square when they were kids. Who grew up, went to war, and came back scarred and recluse. Rumors have been swirling around about him and Rosa is intent on setting the record straight.
I really enjoyed reading Rosamund and Julian’s story. I loved their connection and how headstrong Rosamund was, even if it landed her in trouble. Julian broke my heart in this and I loved how Rosamund’s presence forced him to confront his way of life.
This was a great story for a novella, and I’m looking forward to reading more of the Busty Bodice Club series!
Thank you Annabelle and Meighan for the advance copy!
Beauty-and-the-Beast vibes at their absolute best! In this enchanting addition to the Busty Bodice Club series, Lady Rosamund Harrington takes center stage as she works to fulfill her late father’s wish and secure her inheritance. Her task? Write a meaningful story under her own name—one that makes a difference.
Rosamund has harbored a secret admiration for Julian, the elusive Duke of Bexley, ever since her youth. When rumors swirl that he’s unfit to manage his estates, she’s determined to uncover the truth and pen the real story. Without hesitation, she arrives at his secluded estate, charming her way past his gruff exterior and into his hidden world. Despite his best efforts to remain a recluse, Julian can’t resist Rosamund’s warmth and wit. Slowly, walls crumble, and what begins as a secret mission turns into something far more tender.
Of course, secrets have consequences. Rosamund’s plan hinges on a lie about her true identity—a lie that threatens to upend their fragile connection. When the truth finally emerges, the resulting emotional clash is as dramatic as it is inevitable.
This captivating, quick read is full of heart, humor, and Annabelle Anders’ signature brand of emotional magic. Tender, charming, and utterly satisfying—Curves for the Beastly Duke is another shining star in the Busty Bodice Club series. I loved every moment!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book; all opinions are my own.
Rosamund Harrington shows up at the Beastly Duke’s doorstep with a fake name, a notebook, & the kind of confidence only a woman on a deadline can muster. Besides needing to publish under her real name to complete the inheritance task her duke father set for each of his eight daughters in his will; Rosamund is determined to clear the Beastly Duke’s reputation. Julian Cavendish wants to be left alone with his solitude, his scars, & his emotional‑support woodworking projects. Naturally, chaos and chemistry ensue.
Rosamund refuses to be intimidated by his gruffness, his growling, or the fact that he clearly hasn’t smiled since the war. Julian, meanwhile, is trying very hard to maintain his “leave me alone” persona while this determined little hurricane keeps seeing straight through him. It’s Beauty & the Beast with ink stains, stubbornness, & a duke who melts faster than he’d ever admit.
A quick, charming, beauty‑tames‑the‑brooder tale that proves sometimes the real transformation isn’t the beast…...it’s the woman who refuses to let him hide. Annabelle Anders delivers a beautifully written, heartfelt rendition of the classic tale - full of emotion, tenderness, & that signature Annabelle magic that makes you feel every moment right along with her characters. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.5/5 I prefer to go into books blind, a lot of times it helps keep my expectations in check. Others and like this time it made the reveal of the hidden identity hit harder. I think those that have read others in this series already will enjoy it, just with a different experience. So I’ll try to keep this spoiler free for those who are jumping in mid-series like I did.
This was a fun and quick read. Rosamund and Julian don’t have a shared romantic history but she’s had a soft spot for Julian for years. Julian became a reclusive Duke after a war injury years prior. She wants to write a story about how he’s a competent peer and Julian just wants to be left alone.
It had Beauty and the Beast vibes that I greatly enjoyed. Their romance worked for me because they had a lot of page time together and got to know one another first. It all occurs within a few days but it’s a short story and does what it needs to do.
I ended up reading the prequel after reading this one. It wasn’t required for this but is the story of side characters.
I enjoyed how the curvy heroine was portrayed and how much Julian adored and desired her as she was.
Curves for the Beastly Duke is the fourth story in the Busty Bodice Club.
There is one explicit open door encounter.
I received an advanced reader copy from the author. All opinions are my own.
Curves for the Beastly Duke is a novella using a beauty and the beast trope. It features Rosamund Belle, a strong, confident, resourceful young woman who is considered too much by Society and Julian, the Duke of Bexley, an intelligent yet reclusive, grumpy, scarred war hero. Rosamund is determined to expel the rumors surrounding the Duke by writing an article that exposes the real man that will also fulfill the task her father left for her in his will. She uses half- truths and omissions to secure an interview and her efforts end up leading them both on an emotional journey of self - discovery and heartache. Based on the man she gets to know, she becomes his staunch defender and his unforgiving mirror. She forces him to see the consequences of refusing to interact with the villagers and with his peers and the cost will destroy his world. I also enjoy reading Annabelle Anders books and Curves for the Beastly Duke was a delightful novella that delivers emotional impact and relatable characters in a satisfying read! I received an ARC from the author and am leaving a voluntary review based solely on my personal reading experience.
Curves for the Beastly Duke by Annabelle Anders stole my heart. It feels like the perfect story for anyone who has ever been told they are “too much” of anything. Top that with the fact that the story includes cameos by Angus the hound, Sable the cat, along with their horses, and I was happily lost in the story for hours.
This story had me humming Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers for some reason. This story features a scarred hero and an unconventional voluptuous beauty who sees beyond his gruff exterior. I love how she designates herself as his defender, both against Society’s gossiping and also against his own self-image since he returned from war.
Angus the hound and Sable the cat are the cherry on top of the story for me. I’m a huge fan of stories featuring pets because I couldn’t imagine my life without animal companions. Ms. Anders is one of the best at writing their cameos.
If you like a slow burning romance with a hero who falls hard, this is the book for you. Happily ever after guaranteed.
I received an ARC. The opinions expressed above are mine.
A young woman is challenged in her father’s will to do something “meaningful” in order to receive her inheritance. She immediately decides to champion a man she has known since she was young. Julian went to war and came home scarred in many ways. Although he is now a Duke, people think he is unstable, unhinged, and possibly dangerous. Rosa wants to repair his reputation by writing an article presenting the duke’s better side. So she shows up at his house to learn what she needs to know to write her article. She does not tell Julian that her late father was a Duke. She brings light and life to his reclusive household, and in Julian finds someone who doesn’t seem to think that she is “too much,” as her mother has told her she is. Annabelle Anders has created two engaging characters, as usual, and I enjoyed reading as Rosa’s confidence bloomed and Julian learned to trust. The book is only a little steamy, and is perfect for a quick read.
This is another book in the Busty Bodice Club series and another wonderful novella. Annabelle Anders’s evocative style really shines here. The story is about Duke of Bexley, a scarred war veteran, who is shuttered on his estate and is a subject of rumors of anger and violence. This story is also about Rosamund, who is determined to rehabilitate the man, who was once a sweet boy she knew before the war, by writing an article detailing his daily life and showing he is far from unstable. She insinuates herself into his house under a false name and the romance blossoms between them.
Rather than traditional beauty and the beast, not only does Rosamund help Julian emerge from his shell, but Julian also helps Rosamund shed the insecurities she carries and fully embrace her identity. What a great sensual story, vivid characters and another satisfying HEA for another Harrington sister.
Thanks to the author for this page-turner advanced copy and I cannot wait for the rest of the series!
Lady Rosamund Harrington’s task, left by her deceased father, is to write a story under her own name, make it meaningful, and make a difference in the world. She determines that writing about the Duke of Bexley, who she has admired since she was a girl, would be perfect. Rumors have abounded about the Beastly Duke, who returned from the war a scarred and reclusive man. Her plan won’t work unless she lies about who she is, which is never a good way to start any friendship, or perhaps even a relationship. But it does give her the opportunity to get to know the real man, until everything falls to pieces when her lie is revealed. This was a lovely story with a forthright, determined young lady, committed to doing something to help the man she’s always admired, who really needs someone to bring some light and happiness back to his life. What a wonderful addition to the Busty Bodice Club series, I loved it!
Wonderful story. In order for Rosamund to get her inheritance, she needed to write a story using her real name. She decided to write about the Duke of Bexley, and to show the world that he wasn’t a beast like everyone believed him to be. Yes, he does have an eyepatch and a scar down his cheek, but that doesn’t mean he’s a beast does it? Rosamund doesn’t think so and she’s determined to let everyone in town know that the duke is a normal person with a hidden heart of gold. Except how can she write an article about the duke, when it will ruin her reputation if it gets out she spent time at his home alone. Things Rosamund should have thought about before jumping into the fire.
I really enjoyed this story. Rosamund made the duke feel like he was someone and not a beast like everyone thought he was. Maybe the duke could have a life and a family, especially with Rosamund. Very well written and a great addition to the series.
4.6 stars We have Lady Rosamund Belle Harrington has a crush on the Bexley aka Beastly Duke since they were very young! There are rumors circulating that he is unstable and not in charge of his lands and tenants! Rosamund has been given a task to write an article under her own pen name! She enters his Ironwood Manor and convinced him to let her stay and observe him in his day to day environment! He is compassionate and collects strays and misfits he doesn’t know he’s about to collect one more! Rosamund feels she is too much, too loud, hair bright red and freckles everywhere! But with Julian maybe just maybe she’s found where she belongs! But her secrets are revealed and it doesn’t seem like he can forgive her!? But who knew what an impact a single chair would have! Bravo a wonderful story! This author always packs a wallop! I received an ARC copy for my unbiased opinion!
Julian Cavendish, The Duke of Bexley prefers his solitude, hiding behind the gates of Ironwood Manor and the rumours that keep the world at bay. Miss Rosamund Belle needs a story that will secure her inheritance—and the Beastly Duke is perfect. She isn’t afraid of his scars, his temper, or his brooding silence. She is simply determined to uncover the truth even if it means pretending she’s a common miss to gain his trust. Rosamund is one determined lady & bit by bit she wears Julian down, first allowing her to stay overnight, then to stay three days to write her story then allowing her more time. I loved how they both help each other & how there’s the shift in their feelings. A beautifully written love story that made me smile & made me sigh with satisfaction at the end. I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
Lady Rosamund is very independent and daring when she takes on her mission from her late father, which takes her to the doorstep of Julian, Duke of Bexley or as the people of the village call him the “Duke of Beastly.” Rosa wants to correct the reputation of Julian and fulfill her mission by writing the truth about him and have it published under her name. Julian doesn’t know how to get rid of Rosa so he can go back in seclusion, but soon he doesn’t want too. Their slow burn romance builds wonderfully into a hot & steamy Beauty & the Beast themed love story.
This is book 4 in the Busty Bodice Club series; it can stand on its own. If you haven’t read the first three in this series, I recommend that you do so as well.
I received an ARC of this book, and this is my honest review.
When their father died, he left each of the Harrington siblings, Charles the Duke and his eight sisters, a letter containing his dying wish for each of his children. His main wish was for them to be happy. Rosamund, who publishes under a male pen name, must write a story using her real name in order to receive her inheritance. She has chosen Julian Cavendish, Duke of Bexley, as her subject. He is known as the beastly duke because of his scars, his temper, and his brooding. She arrives at Ironwood Manor to convince him to allow her to discover the truth and let others know what he is really like. He agrees a bit at a time to allow her to stay at the manor and eventually to write the article. This is a charming beauty and the beast, grumpy/sunshine and determined tale. There is chemistry between them, but a secret may ruin everything. Julian and Rosamund are great for each other, and help each other accept the good that is within them. The secondary characters are entertaining. Charles is the protective brother, Julian’s staff is delightful, and Sable and Angus are both watchful and entertaining. A truly engaging addition to the series. And next, Imogen.
The sisters continue on their quests to fulfill their father’s request and receive their inheritance. Rosamund must write and publish a story under her own name. She chooses Julian the Duke of Bexley who is scarred and reclusive. He lives quietly away from society on his own estate and shuns interaction with the ton. Rosamund decides to drop in on him and research his true identity to dispel the horrible ton rumors. She does not share her identity as the daughter and sister of a fellow Duke. She slowly endears herself to Julian. Their kisses are explosive and addicting. Their romance is derailed with truths and revelations. Adored these characters as they look beyond the surface to their individual traits. Witty interchanges and just plain fun to read. Worthy addition to the Busty Bodice Club. I received an ARC but the honest opinion is my own.
This installment in the series continues the excitement beautifully, drawing me in from the very first page. The plot is wonderfully engaging and easy to follow, making it a perfect read to get lost in.
The characters are absolutely delightful—each one is well-written, charming, and full of personality. I particularly enjoyed how the relationships developed naturally, adding depth and warmth to the story. The pacing was just right, keeping me eagerly turning pages to see what would happen next.
Best of all, the book delivers a satisfying happy ending that leaves you smiling and feeling fulfilled. Annabelle Anders has truly created an enchanting world with this series, and I can’t wait to see what comes next! Highly recommended for anyone who loves heartfelt romances with intriguing plots and wonderful characters.
Another well written story of this family. Rosamund needs to write a story in her real name to get her inheritance per her father's will. She has written before but always under a man's name. Each of her sisters have a different item to do. Julian the Duke of Bexley, has had a rather hard time of things and only wants to be left alone at his Manor. He is dealing with a scarred face that society makes fun of plus has some PTSD. Society has a nasty way of treating people who are different then them. When Rosamund shows up on his door there is a lot of actions and questions that each needs to answer. Has steam, love, feelings plus great characters that are an emotional journey. Absolutely a great way to enjoy your time while reading. Will keep you reading and loving the family and story. Would recommend to all. I received this story and leave this unbiased honest review.
