EXCERPT: Emmy wasn’t at her best. While all her friends were moving along with their lives, three years after college, she was still in an entry-level position, and she’d been passed over twice for a job promotion.
She couldn’t help wondering sometimes if she’d been given the position out of pity, because her boss, Vivienne Moreau, had been her mother’s best friend when they were students in Paris.
Emmy picked up a mug of eggnog. “I can’t believe you and Charlie Russell ended up at the same company.”
“I know,” Madison said. “He does cybersecurity.”
Both Charlie and Madison worked at Bachman Global Services, an IT and technology consulting firm. Madison was in IT strategy at a small branch in Richmond, Virginia, where she’d settled after college.
Charlie, the high school football star, had everything back when they were in school: the looks, good grades, a gaggle of friends following him everywhere, and always a pretty girl on his arm.
But now, he was tucked away at a desk job, doing cybersecurity.
She’d expected him to do something extraordinary like sports broadcasting or fly-fishing tours out in Montana.
Perhaps cybersecurity was a front for his top-secret FBI job…
“His family’s okay with him popping over? It’s Christmas.”
“I guess so. He seemed like he’d come by.”
“If we’re entertaining, I should at least run a brush through my hair.”
Madison gave her a playful punch in the arm. “I think you secretly had a crush on him in high school—from afar. I saw you stop what you were doing whenever he’d drive by.”
“I was fifteen, and he was sixteen. He drove a car. That was the extent of my infatuation with him.” Emmy lifted her eggnog in the air. “By twenty-five, I’ve dated lots of men who drive cars, so it’s not quite as impressive now.”
“Good to be starting on equal footing with the others, then.” The male voice sailed toward her from the doorway.
He’s already here? Nooo.
ABOUT 'TEN CHRISTMASES WITHOUT YOU": It’s Emmy Brewer’s tenth Christmas since she lost her mom, and without her, Emmy’s floundering. Her job is pointless, and she struggles to find direction and passion. So when her sister invites Emmy’s childhood crush and former neighbor, Charlie Russell, to their family Christmas, and he shows up, given her state, Emmy is anything but excited.

MY THOUGHTS: Written with warmth and humor, Ten Christmases Without You is a slowly developing story that enchanted me as it progressed from Christmas 2015 to Christmas 2025.
Emmy is the main character and stuck in a job that doesn't make use of her talents and pays barely enough to get by. While she would like to do something more than she is doing, she's not brave enough to take the risk for fear of upsetting the applecart and ending up having no job at all. She treads water until . . . (no spoilers from me!)
I loved the slowly developing relationship between Emmy and Charlie and the way they encourage one another to follow their dreams. There is no insta love here; just a deepening friendship.
I loved the mystery surrounding Emmy's mother's early years - those before she became a Mrs. and a mum.
Ten Christmases Without You is a heartwarming story of grief, love, and personal growth set over ten Christmases in Emmy's life. The novel is filled with the same heartfelt charm as the gorgeous cover.
I listened to the audiobook of Ten Christmases Without You, written by Jenny Hale and superbly narrated by Emma Love who brought the characters to life.
A must for your Christmas reading/listening list!

MEET THE AUTHOR: JENNY HALE - When I graduated college, one of my friends said, "Look out for this one; she's going to be an author one day." Despite being an avid reader and a natural storyteller, it wasn't until that very moment that the idea of writing novels occurred to me.
Sometimes our friends can see the things that we can't.
While I didn't start straight away, that comment sowed a seed and several years, two children, and hundreds of thousands of words later, I completed a novel that I felt was worthy of publication. The rest is history.
I’m also the mother of two boys and a wife to a very supportive husband.
DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Dreamscape Media via NetGalley for providing an audiobook of Ten Christmases Without You written by Jenny Hale and narrated by Emma Love. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own personal opinions.
I received a free copy of, Ten Christmases Without You, by Jenny Hale, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Emmy Brewer, lost her mom a decade ago, but still misses her deeply, Christmas and holidays are not the same without your ,missing loved ones. I enjoyed this Christmas book. I am not looking forward to Christmas this year, after a really devastating loss, this year.
As this story begins in 2015, Emmy is home in Tennessee for Christmas, the tenth without her mom. She feels like a failure to her family as she lives in NYC in a job below her talents. She has a degree and works in PR but her talent is in fashion design. The appearance of her old friend Charlie visiting from Chicago makes the time better. As the story moves on, we mostly see Emmy back in Tennessee with her dad, sister, Madison, and family for Christmas. Each year Charlie visits from his parent's home across the backyard. While this is a Christmas story (love the cover) and most events happen during the holidays, the overall theme of the story is Emmy's growth as she makes decisions to take a risk to better her life. Maybe even risk romance. Along the way, there are many things that come out about her mom's life and the romance between her parents. This started slow for me but picked up as it went on and ended on a great, uplifting note, ten years later. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.
Christmas time is coming once again and for Emmy Brewer it’s a holiday she would like to skip over. It’s the tenth Christmas without her mom. But this year is different not only is she missing her mom, but she doesn’t like her job and needs to find purpose in her life.
When Emmy’s sister, arrives for their annual Christmas together, she arrives with a surprise that Emmy wasn’t expecting. She invites Emmy’s childhood crush and former neighbor, Charlie Russell to their family Christmas. Emmy needs to make a major change in her life, is Charlie the one that will help her make that change?
“Ten Christmases Without You” by Jenny Hale is a heartwarming festive read that I loved from cover to cover. I felt Emmy’s pain from the loss of her mother. Grief always seems to creep up around the holidays. But reminiscing and hope always helps to make it through. I loved the plot twist and turn with the surprise mystery that was discovered about her mother.
This story propelled me into the Christmas season. With the stunning cover and the phenomenal storyline, this is an absolute must read for anyone that is ready to cozy up by the fire, wrapped up in warm blanket and sip some hot chocolate. Once you read this fabulous story, you too will be ready to haul out the Christmas decorations and put up the tree. I absolutely loved this story and I highly recommend it.
What a beautiful, refreshing, honest to God look at life…. And real… something we can all identify with! This revolves around Emmy, a young woman who lost her Mom at a young age, and has a hard time existing without her.
Her Mom seemed to have a storied life! She was a fashion designer who ACTUALLY traveled to Paris! What a dream! Or, at least this is how Emmy feels.
Emmy is stuck. In a rut. In a dead end job. Not feeling her worth. Not feeling meaningful. Feeling totally lost.
And then, one Christmas, her sister invites Emmy’s old HS crush Charlie for Christmas. But…it won’t mean anything. He’s just an old friend…. But there’s something…
And now every year, Charlie returns… and they catch up! And they begin having chats. And Charlie is encouraging. And just maybe Emmy can change the trajectory of her life.
He gives her hope. And faith. And the courage to believe in herself…and maybe, she can do this. Just maybe. Because he starts to make her believe in herself, too… like her Mother once did.
And while this is going on, another element arises that actually might just make her whole world fall apart…But she’s NOT going to give up! She is invested!
So, as little pieces of her life begin to change, she also starts to see a new woman rising from the ashes! A strong, more confidant version of herself! One who IS going to make changes. A real pace-setter.
And as she evolves, she starts to see what really matters in life! And what does not!
4 1/2 stars for me,happily rounded up to 5! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Ten Christmases Without You by Jenny Hale is a special gift for all of the readers of this book. This book is like a warm hug on Christmas morning. I loved the book and didn't want it to end. It's been 10 Christmases that Emmy Brewer has been without her beloved mom, She misses her so much it hurts and coming back to the family house at Christmas is both wonderful and emotional. Emmy's Dad still lives in the house she grew up in and it's a tradition for all of the family to gather here for the holidays. It's hard with all of the memories filling each space, but magical too. Emmy is working at a job that she's overly trained for and doesn't enjoy, but keeps doing it anyway. When Emmy gets home for Christmas it's wonderful to see her Dad, sister, brother in law, aunts, and uncles. Little did she know that her sister invited Charlie Russell over to the house. He lived next door when they were kids and he and Emmy were very close. His parents still live there and he was coming home for a visit.
Emmy is flustered when she finds out Charlie is coming, as she always had a thing for him, and she's just wearing sweats. Emmy and Charlie fall back into their easy conversations and laughter. She's so glad that Charlie came and this sets off a series of events that lead to her and Charlie seeing each every Christmas. Will Emmy and Charlie find a way to be together even though she lives in New York and he lives in Chicago? Will Emmy realize life is too short to stay in a dead end job and finally chase her dreams? Will Emmy's mom give her the inspiration she needs when she finds one of her sketch books? Will Charlie find love in Chicago or hold out for his once a year visit with Emmy? This is a heartwarming Christmas story that you will quickly fall in love with. Jenny Hale does a wonderful job of bringing the characters to life on the page and you'll feel like they're your family before the book ends. I rate Ten Christmases Without You 4 stars with a high recommendation. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Harpeth Road Press for an advanced copy of Ten Christmases Without You in exchange for a fair review. #TenChristmasesWithoutYou
3.75 (rounded up) — Thank you to @libro.fm for my gifted audiobook copy 🎧
This is a heartwarming holiday story about a woman navigating her 10th Christmas after losing her mom to cancer. As she feels stuck in her career and unsure of her direction, a discovery from her mother’s past pulls her into the present which leaves behind a trail of emotional and mysterious clues.
While I didn’t think the story was bad, it felt a bit mis-marketed. This isn’t really a romance, the romantic subplot def takes a clear backseat.
I also wish the book had focused on one central theme instead of juggling so many: grief, uncovering her mom’s past, career changes, and reconnecting with a childhood neighbor. For such a short book, it felt like a lot was happening all at once. And for a Christmas read, it was missing a bit of that cozy holiday magic.
That said, it’s a quick and easy read, and I really enjoyed the family dynamics especially the bond between the sisters.
If you’re looking for a Christmas book that leans more toward grief, healing, and family rather than romance, this might be one to check out. 🎄📚
This was sweet. Very, very sweet. Almost too sweet. In fact its probably more like 3.5 stars but I'm rounding up to 4. I liked it. It is an easy read and I loved that it wasn't full of toxic awful humans. After a string of heavy reads, that was the most refreshing thing about this book. The biggest issue was that it is very very dialogue heavy. That made it feel real cheesy. We needed a little more show, a little less tell if that makes sense. It was what I needed it to be though...a very cute, palate cleansing Christmas book. If that is what you are looking for, then I would recommend this one.
Ten Christmases Without You was an absolute delight from start to finish. I gave this audiobook 5 stars, and it completely earned every one of them. The story has that signature Jenny Hale warmth heartfelt, nostalgic, and full of cozy Christmas charm. I was immediately pulled into the characters’ journey, and the emotional depth of the story made it feel both comforting and compelling.
The narrator was fantastic and brought the entire book to life. Every character felt distinct, expressive, and so easy to connect with. Their delivery added a layer of magic that made the story even more engaging and heartwarming.
If you’re looking for a festive romance filled with emotion, second chances, and holiday spirit, this audiobook is a perfect cozy listen. It’s everything I want in a Christmas story and more. A new favorite for sure!
Thank you NetGalley for this heartfelt ARC for my honest review. I absolutely love Jenny Hale’s books and Ten Christmases Without You has become one of my favorites. This story is so touching and a story of Emmy moving forward and finding her way after the loss of her Mom. She has been working a job as basically being an errand girl for her boss. As she goes home for Christmas year after losing Mom to be with family and her longtime friend, Charlie, she is given her mother’s sketch book at her clothing designs. This is such a precious gift but certainly makes her miss her even more than ever. On the back of one of the sketches, a name is written on the back. Upon researching the name, she finds out he is a very successful clothing designer in Paris and this is when her Mom studies before marrying her Dad. Needless to say, she has so many questions about her Moms life before her Dad. I loved everything about this story. It’s heartbreaking at times and it tugs at your heart with happiness and hope. Emotions are very high with this friends to lovers story. It’s full of family supporting each other in every way. I can’t say enough good things about this clean sweet holiday story with a happy ending. I guess you know by now that I highly recommend this book.
Oh, to be emotionally destabilized by a sketchbook and a man who only shows up once a year. Emmy Brewer is the kind of main character who starts off with all the energy of someone staring blankly into the void of their office cubicle while slowly disassociating to Bing Crosby’s Greatest Hits. It’s her tenth Christmas without her mom, her job’s a dead end, her creativity is flatlined, and honestly? Same, girl. SAME.
Enter: Charlie. Childhood neighbor. Walking cardigan of a man. The kind of guy who makes you want to go back and re-watch your high school memories with the This Is Us soundtrack playing. Emmy’s sister invites him to Christmas like it’s no big deal, and suddenly we’ve got ourselves a once-a-year reunion that somehow stretches into a full-on, ten-year slow burn. Imagine if When Harry Met Sally happened exclusively in December and also involved a low-grade identity crisis and a mystery fashion lineage.
This isn’t a will-they-won’t-they. It’s a they-absolutely-will-but-not-until-Emmy-wrestles-with-grief-unresolved-dreams-and-the-fact-that-her-mom-might-have-been-a-secret-Parisian-fashion-icon. The romance is quiet, like your feelings sneaking up on you after too much mulled wine, but it is there, and it’s tender as hell.
And listen. Emma Love’s narration? A+ cozy blanket energy. She gives Emmy this soft resilience that makes you want to root for her even when she’s being emotionally constipated. Do I wish the pacing were a little zippier? Yeah. Some of those middle Christmases drag like the third day of leftovers. But the narration keeps things emotionally rich even when the plot just wants to wander around in its feelings like a lost mall Santa.
This is not a high-stakes rom-com with slapstick misunderstandings and mistletoe-induced makeouts. It’s introspective. It’s about who you become in the quiet years. And sometimes, you need that. Sometimes, you need a book that says, “You don’t have to be okay every holiday season. But you do have to wear something besides your emotional trauma.”
Would I have liked a bit more Charlie? Yes. Would I like Emmy to text her therapist every time she thinks about quitting her job but doesn’t? Also yes. But did I cry during a scene involving a dress sketch and a legacy Emmy didn’t know she was carrying? You bet your peppermint martini I did.
3.5 stars for emotional depth, Christmas melancholy, and a narrator who sounds like she’s reading you bedtime stories by candlelight.
Merry Mayhem Prize: For Weaponizing a Sketchbook and a Soft Boy into a Full-Blown Existential Rebrand
Huge thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the festive feelings and emotional whiplash in the best way.
Ten Christmases Without You is a charming standalone Christmas Romance that will give you all the holiday feels you desire, and give you something to linger on in your mind long after the final page is turned.
Spanning a decade between 2015 and 2025, we’ll follow Emmy, who lost her mother years ago and has, since then, flitted through life. Not in a social butterfly way, but a deep into her own thoughts way. She has a job that she’s overqualified for, but it’s a paycheck, and she’s afraid to really try the profession that has been her dream. Perhaps her life isn’t a true limbo, but she is floating along in life with grief and second-guessing as her constant companions.
Then, one Christmas, while she was home visiting her family for the holiday, a ghost from the past appeared at their Christmas table. Charlie had been a neighbor, a friend… and an unrequited high school crush so many years ago. Her sister has invited Charlie, who is back in their hometown visiting his own parents, over for Christmas. What follows this surprising development is life changing for both Emmy and Charlie… but, it’s the slowly growing, questioning decisions, perhaps finally willing to take a few risks type of changes coming into both of their lives as their yearly Christmas time together with family allows us to see their growth, their changes… and perhaps finally seeing each other as far more than they’d ever dreamed possible.
I enjoyed Ten Christmases Without You by Jenny Hale so much. It’s thought-provoking and so emotional as we watch Emmy (and Charlie to a lesser degree) take a good, hard look at her life and make the choice to begin embracing changes, to move beyond where she is now to where she could be if she’d take a few risks and trust herself. While romantic, their story is also a look at how life changes us, and how one person’s steady influence, even if it’s only once a year, can give a new outlook on life. It’s well-written, full of laughter and tears, grief and joy, and slowly accepting changes in life. If you enjoy a Christmas Romance that gives you far more than expected with characters you’ll be wishing a happy future for, then you’d love this one.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the author or the publisher via NetGalley, and I sincerely thank them for their trust. It is my choice to leave a review, giving my personal opinion about this book.*

“Nothing out of the ordinary ever happens to me.”
“Are you giving the out of the ordinary a chance to happen to you?”
Twenty-five year old Emmy Brewer has spent ten long, Christmases without her mom, her best friend. Each holiday comes with its own special challenges, this one she finds lipstick that’s not hers in her soon-to-be-ex-boyfriend’s apartment. Maybe that’s why when her former neighbor & childhood crush, Charlie Russell arrives at the party he stands out just a little more.
But, have you ever heard of the right person, wrong time? That seems to be their story over & over again until maybe one day it isn’t.
Emmy also struggles to find her purpose career-wise. While she’d love to take after her mother in the world of design, she can’t seem to take the necessary steps to put herself out there. She just wants to make her family proud. Who knew that a clutch purse buried in her mom’s closet could offer her a fresh new start?
“I just design from the heart. How people receive it is out of my hands.”
Sadly, I know the pain all too well of losing a parent & the grief that comes with. The reminder your loved one is gone hits even harder during holidays. I do wish this book had a little more romance between Charlie & Emmy rather than just a few little snips. Maybe we can hope for a book #2?🤞🏼
4.5 Stars: It's been ten years since Emmy Brewer's mother died and she is still floundering. She is working at a job that is going nowhere, she is not in any relationship and doesn't know what she wants out of life. When her sister runs into an old neighbour, Charlie Russell and she invites him to spend Christmas with their family as his parents are away. Her hope is that Emmy's old feelings toward Charlie might be rekindled. They do rekindle their friendship and carry on a long distance relationship, supporting one another and spending Christmases together. If only they could see and admit to their feelings like everyone else does. Emmy takes a chance on leaving her place of employment and some situations happen to give her a change in her life, but is it what she's looking for?
I enjoyed this story of personal growth, friendship, dealing with grief, family following your dreams and love. Emmy used to love sketching, designing and sewing with her mother, but when she died, so do those interests in Emmy. Her mother's best friend gives her a job, but is it a pity job. It certainly isn't going anywhere. Emmy decides to quit and to do somthing else, but she isn't sure what. I love that she had the guts to do that, but it left her at loose ends. Her friendship with Charlie, a long distance one, developed slowly over the years and he was there to encourage her. It was obvious to this reader that they loved one another, but it took a long time for them to realize it and act on it. There are secrets that Emmy discovers that lead her on a journey to discover what she wants and needs out of life, and eventually leads her to her heart's desire. This is a lovely story of Christmas magic and love, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The narration was performed by Emma Love, a new narrator to me. I enjoyed her storytelling and voices and she pulled me into the story. I definitely recommend Ten Christmases Without You.

I became a Jenny Hale fan when I read “Meet Me at Christmas”. I was curious about the title and thought it was referring to Christmas Day but it is a local Christmas tree lot called “Christmas’ In addition to the trees it is also a fun gathering place that also has games, food, and in the evenings ‘live bands’. It was a special place and I thought – What a great Idea! So folks during Christmas often would say ‘meet me at Christmas’! “Meet Me at Christmas” is still my favorite all time enjoyable Christmas read.🎄💕 Narrator Emma Love was a great audiobook performer. – plus is the audiobook performer for THIS story.
As this story begins in 2015, Emmy is home in Tennessee for Christmas, the tenth without her mom a she died of dancer. She feels like a failure to her family as she lives in NYC in a job below her talents. She has a degree and works in PR but her talent is in fashion design. Her mother was a fabulous fashion designer and gave it up when she married and he preferred living in a small community and she agreed.
This Christmas her sister Madison invites Emmy’s childhood crush and former neighbor, Charlie Russell, who now lives in Chicago to their family Christmas family get together. At first Emmy is anything but excited.
However each year Charlie visits from his parent's home across the backyard. So Yes he arrives via the backdoor. This story was much slower than I expected. However, worth the wait. There is a bit of a mystery that it solved late in the story. Although “Meet Me at Christmas” is still my favorite -but this was enjoyable!
Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media-Harpeth Road Press for this great Christmas audiobook. Publishing Release Date was December 9, 2025.
Another Hale story? Sign me up! Because I’m reading it!
“Ten Christmases Without You" by Jenny Hale follows Emmy Brewer as she struggles with life ten years after losing her mother. When her sister invites Emmy’s childhood crush, Charlie Russell, to their family Christmas, old feelings resurface. Their annual holiday meetings are filled with laughter, challenges, and heartfelt moments, pushing Emmy to face her past and decide what she truly wants.
The interactions between Emmy and Charlie reflect realistic romantic tension, with charming setbacks that add authenticity to their budding relationship. The story explores themes of grief, healing, love, and personal growth, set against the backdrop of Christmas traditions that evoke warmth and nostalgia. It highlights the magic of the holiday season as a catalyst for change and self-discovery. The story balances lighthearted humor with poignant moments, creating an uplifting and emotionally resonant experience.
This warm and charming holiday romance beautifully captures themes of loss, healing, and the magic of second chances, perfect for readers seeking an uplifting seasonal story. Ten Christmases Without You promises a delightful escape that celebrates the enduring power of love, family, and the magic of Christmas. It’s perfect for those seeking comfort and hope in their seasonal reading, making it an excellent choice for your holiday tbr.
This heartfelt and somewhat poignant Christmas story would make a perfect Hallmark movie. It's been a decade since Emmy Brewer lost her mother, and she still finds herself adrift. Stuck in a dead-end job with no romantic prospects, Emmy feels uncertain about her future. When her sister unexpectedly reconnects with their former neighbor, Charlie Russell, she invites him to celebrate Christmas with their family while his parents are away. Her hope is to rekindle Emmy's old feelings for Charlie.
As they reconnect, Emmy and Charlie revive their friendship and embark on a long-distance relationship, offering each other support and sharing precious Christmas moments together. However, both struggle to acknowledge their true feelings for one another, unlike everyone else around them. In a bold move, Emmy decides to leave her job, prompting a series of events that alter the course of her life. But will these changes lead her to what she truly desires?
The narrative explores Emmy's journey as she seeks to understand her own life while uncovering details about her mother’s history. Spanning four Christmases, the pacing in some middle sections felt a bit sluggish to me.
I wished for a deeper romantic connection between Emmy and Charlie. For most of the story, they were separated, relying on texts and phone calls. I found it difficult to fully invest in their romance.
Emmy is celebrating her 10th Christmas without her Mom. She is frustrated with her career path and life in New York. She's struggling to move up in her PR job and can't embrace her love of clothing design since it just brings back memories of her Mom. Her mother had a mysterious past working in fashion in Paris. She compares herself to her Mother's talent and always deems herself lacking. She's home for Christmas when Charlie, a childhood friend re-enters her life. As the book goes on, we follow Emmy and Charlie as they both come to make major career and life choices.
While this story is definitely a Holiday Romance, it also tells the story of Emmy and her sister discovering their Mother's past. Through Emmy's choice to change jobs, she meets someone who was a big piece of that puzzle.
Without leaving spoilers, I'll say I really enjoyed this both as a Holiday romance but also for the story development the author brought to this. I had to keep reading (way past my bedtime) so I could see where all of the pieces fit. If you are a fan of Christmas reads, I'd highly recommend this one. I gave it 4.25 out of 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for providing a copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.
It’s been ten Christmases since Emmy’s mother passed away and life has been difficult. She’s in a dead end job and has no idea where to go from here. Oh a whim, her sister decides to invite their childhood neighbor, Charlie, to their family Christmas. Emmy finds herself enjoying his company far more than she thought she would. They then see each other every Christmas and sometimes talk in between.
This is the perfect Hallmarkish type love story with a Christmas theme. It reminds me of Christmas as a child when you have all that anticipation building up to Christmas and then when it’s finally that day, it’s pure magic and everything you could have possibly hoped for. That’s what Emmy and Charlie’s story is. They have that deep rooted connection from childhood and are just what each other needs to boost not only their self esteem, but their careers as well. It was so fun seeing their connection build over the years and the joy they brought into each other’s lives. I love that they didn’t shy away from the tough times. It reminds you how nice it is to have someone to rely on and especially partake in that Christmas magic with. *Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review!
Emmy is an aspiring designer who’s spent most of her life holding herself back. Fashion runs in her blood—her mother was an exceptional dress designer before stepping away to raise Emmy—but Emmy has never quite believed in her own talent. Instead, she’s settled for a job far beneath her skill level, working for a boss who refuses to let her take the lead, advance, or tap into her natural creativity.
On the tenth Christmas after losing her mother to cancer, Emmy returns home for the holidays. There, she reconnects with her childhood neighbor, Charlie, who’s also visiting for Christmas. What unfolds over the next ten years is a heartwarming journey of self-discovery as Emmy uncovers long-kept secrets her mother never had the chance to share, begins to fall in love with Charlie, grows into a dream career in design, and learns that Christmas can still be magical—even without the person she misses most.
The narrator delivers a standout performance, using tone and pacing that make the story feel vivid and alive. Listening to the audiobook helped me picture every scene as if I were right there beside the characters. I truly enjoyed this uplifting, cozy holiday story and adore Jenny Hale’s warm, heartfelt writing style.
4.5 Stars — A Beautifully Heartfelt Holiday Romance
Ten Christmases Without You is the kind of warmth that makes a holiday romance unforgettable. From the very first page of this eARC, I was completely swept up in the cozy charm and tender nostalgia.
Jenny Hale has an unmatched gift for capturing the magic of the season while grounding her stories in real, deeply felt emotion. This book balances holiday sparkle with genuine heart in a way that feels so comforting and so human. Every scene carries that signature Hale glow: twinkle lights, second chances, and just enough romantic tension to make you melt.
What I loved most was how rich and layered the characters felt. Their history, their heartbreak, their hope… it all unfolds with such warmth and sincerity that you can’t help but root for them. The emotional beats land beautifully, and the cozy Christmas atmosphere enhances every moment.
Jenny Hale has created another holiday classic. Ten Christmases Without You is touching, romantic, and absolutely overflowing with seasonal magic. I adored this eARC, and I’ll be recommending it to every Christmas-romance lover I know.

I listened to the audiobook of Ten Christmases Without You by Jenny Hale and expertly narrated by the incomparable Emma Love. As advertised, it was written for people who enjoy Hallmark Christmas movies. Prior to picking this one up, I didn't realize that a few of the authors books were made into holiday movies, and now, I can certainly see why. I listened to it all in one day.
Ten Christmases is a reflective story that focuses on Emmy who is still grieving the loss of her mother to cancer 10 years before. She is working in a thankless job in New York City and barely making ends meet. She travels home to Tennessee to celebrate the holidays with her father and sister (and other extended family) and unexpectedly sees Charlie, an old childhood neighbor, who joins her family for Christmas dinner. Unlike most holiday movies, love does not spark immediately or even sooner afterwards. Instead, Emmy and Charlie develop a long distance friendship who join forces once a year to get through the holidays. This story follows Emmy over ten more holiday seasons as she learns about her mom, her family, and more importantly, herself. I truly loved hearing Emmy's maturity throughout this audiobook and enjoyed the slow-burn romance that took ten years to develop. Brava!
Ten Christmases Without You is an excellent holiday offering by Jenny Hale. It is the tenth Christmas since Emmy Brewer lost her mother as a tender teenager. Her younger sister Madison seems to have been able to move forward, but Emmy is stuck. Without her mother’s guidance Emmy has floundered and second guesses herself continually. She is even second guessing returning to her North Carolina hometown for the holidays with her sister and family, her father, and the myriad aunts and uncles from her mother’s side. One Christmas Eve guest Emmy never expected however was the boy who lived through the woods behind them and who had been her childhood best friend.
When Madison invited Charlie Russell over for Christmas Eve she had no idea of the ghosts she would unleash for her sister, or for Charlie for that matter. As the two old friends talk, new things come to light and old ideas may be silenced. And when year after year Charlie is included at Christmas it becomes a catalyst for healing and moving forward.
Another very good story from Jenny Hale. With well drawn characters and a perfect seasonal setting, the storyline is woven with the artistry Ms. Hale shows over and over. I very much enjoyed this book and do recommend it,
Jenny Hale delivers another heartwarming festive read that captivated me from beginning to end. I truly felt Emmy’s grief over the loss of her mother—something that feels especially heavy during the holidays. Yet through memories and hope, she finds her way forward. The unexpected twist surrounding her mother’s past added a wonderful layer of mystery that kept me turning the pages.
The characters are believable, the storyline heartfelt, and the entire book is wrapped in the warmth and magic of Christmas. It’s a beautiful story of loss, love, family, friendship, and second chances. From the engaging writing to the emotional depth, this novel draws you in and doesn’t let go. The relatable characters and satisfying ending make it a standout holiday read that checks all the boxes!
I always enjoy Jenny Hale’s books for their charm, heart, and cozy storytelling. If warm, cozy holiday reads are your thing, this one is an absolute must-read.
Note: The narrarator definitely brought this story to life!

This story revolves around Emma Love. She’s back home for the Christmas holiday and misses her mother who died ten years ago. Emma feels unfulfilled, unhappy with her life choices and kind of lost. Her true love is fashion, but feels that she would never meet up to her mother’s talent and thus, doesn’t take a chance on herself. During this visit back home , her family invites Charlie Russell. Their childhood friend from across the street who is visiting his family. He’s also the boy she crushed on as a kid. He encourages to move ahead. As the storyline proceeds, and more Christmases pass, we see the development of Emma’s character. Thus making this story about grief, taking a leap of faith and taking chances, not only in life, professionally, and the future, but also in relationships. I have to confess that while listening to the story, I found that it moved little slow. That said, it’s also a reminder not to give up hope not only during Christmas, but everyday of the year. For me, it was more of a 3.5 story. The narrator, Emma Love, brings the story to life. I was entrusted a copy of this book by Netgalley and Dreamscape Media. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Worth the wait Such a lovely story to listen to during the Christmas season but in saying that I would have enjoyed it no matter what season. Emmy and Charlie grew up together and were inseparable when younger but over the years had grown apart. On the 10th anniversary of her mother’s passing Charlie unexpectedly returned home and he ended up being invited to spend Christmas with her family. This led to him returning each year to be with Emmy. Over those years their relationship grows but as both of them don’t live in the same state nothing comes of their contact with each other. Both go through some upheavals in their lives until they finally find where they are meant to truly be. With a bit of mystery regarding Emmy’s mother this emotional at times story kept me engaged and hoping for a happy ending to this slow burn story. This is a kisses only romance with a great storyline and characters. Emma Love did an amazing job of narrating this gorgeous Christmas love story. Thank you to Jenny Hale, NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the opportunity to listen to this beautiful story.
