I was born and raised in the mountains of British Columbia, Canada. After earning a master's degree in military history and spending a good chunk of my twenties studying the British Army in the First World War, I returned to BC and began writing fiction. Nowadays, I'm a husband, a pet owner, and the commissioner of my fantasy baseball league (though sadly not the champion). I got off to a slow start reading the first book in the series. I couldn't connect with the main characters apart from Gary, who seemed down to earth and more practical than others. I disliked Sam as he came over as a wimp, and so like my own nephew, who has no real life experiences, and no common sense,or so it seemed. However all that changed as I got further into the 1st book. The characters began to become more solid and common sense seemed to be more obvious. Although Sam remained annoying. I loved Sophie and her spirit as well as Carter. Great characters. A lot of good twists and turns that made the book set an enjoyable read.
I enjoyed the full series. I actually cried when Val died, I've never done that before. My only complaint is that as a UK reader, I know nothing about soft ball games, I felt too much detail was boring. I will definitely read more of his books though
