Lust Marked: The beginning of the End

Rate this book
Before the hunters. Before the war. Before the world drowned in demons, there was a beginning.

Life was supposed to be normal. A dinner, a party, a night out with friends—just another night before the change. But when sinister whispers creep into their lives, shattering reality and distorting the ones they love. Reality cracked open, letting something else in. Shadows that didn’t belong. Smiles that stretched too wide. Loved ones who weren’t quite themselves anymore. They did not even know what they were fighting against. But it did not matter. It was already too late when they realized something was wrong.

And the worst part?
This was only the beginning.

Sinister whispers. Twisted shadows. And a world collapsing before anyone even realizes what’s happening.

As reality cracks open, Poheli paints a disturbingly vivid image of a world slowly being swallowed by something dark and otherworldly. Shadows move wrong. Smiles look too wide. People you know begin to act like strangers wearing familiar skin. The horror is subtle at first… but once it grips you, it does not let go

But what surprised me most was the emotional weight behind the chaos.
The characters feel real...confused, terrified, trying to hold onto normalcy even as everything around them collapses. There’s panic, denial, heartbreak, and that grim determination that makes a found-family dynamic so addictive.

The pacing? Sharp.
The atmosphere? Eerie and cinematic.
The writing? Dark, immersive, and haunting in all the right ways.

If you love dark fantasy, demon lore, slow-growing dread, and emotionally charged character moments, Lust Marked is absolutely worth picking up. It’s short, addictive, and leaves your mind buzzing with questions about what comes next in the series.
A haunting, atmospheric beginning to a world that’s about to burn.

ARC Review:
Ok where is the second book??! I need it right away!!

At first, I’ll admit I was a little confused about whose story I was following and what was happening—but honestly, that just pulled me in deeper. It made me even more curious to figure out the bigger picture, how the characters ended up where they are, and what drives them.
I loved how the story throws you right into the middle of the action without hesitation. It leaves you hungry for the backstory while keeping you hooked on what’s happening right now.

So far, I think Felix is going to be my favorite. He gives me underdog vibes and I love it.

If it weren’t for real-life chores getting in the way, I could’ve easily devoured this novella in one sitting. It’s such an attention-grabber, and I highly recommend giving this new indie author a read!

My very first ARC and wow-the author did not disappoint! The writing style is captivating, the characters are memorable, and the banter between them had me laughing more than once.
At first, I was a little confused because the story jumped around, but once I got into it, I was hooked.
And then... the CLIFFHANGER (so unfair!). Now I'm dying to know what happens next.
Felix absolutely stole the show for me. At first, I thought he was just the fun-loving, charismatic one, but "The Mask" made me wonder if he was hiding something-and when the reveal came, I knew I was right. That twist was everything.
The world-building and descriptions were vivid, almost cinematic, and the writing was very beginner-friendly yet beautiful. Honestly, such a strong start for my ARC journey—I highly recommend giving this book a try!

ARC Review ✨

Perfect spooky season read 👻 Lust Marked is eerie, gory, and atmospheric, but also gives you little pockets of coziness. The beginning was a bit confusing, but it all wraps up so well by the end.

The writing is witty and sharp, with descriptions that stand out. And Felix? Absolute favorite — charming, funny, clearly hiding his emotions behind humor, and instantly loveable.

If you’re looking for demons, gore, apocalypse chaos + found family vibes this October, this is such a good pick.

Lust Marked by @authorpoheli_._
this September has been nothing but reading all the beautiful debut books from beautiful authors. and I am still on high call book drugs 🤤🤤
okay let's get into this book review :
to be honest but I start reading it it was all kind of confusing and confusing for me because this is my first ARc reading like I was kind of... 🫣🫣. for my opinion I would say like...... according to my opinion exactly, this book is like kind of beginning of everything like.... I think this is the precual of a story that will make you get in to the book....... beginning of something vicious and dark.
and there had been lot of powers powerful person Demons fighting with them and I really like... enjoy the characters because they are built nicely. as I said this is a debut book and a beginning of so I would say the characters are built differently and strongly.
As I said this is the beginning of a dark era something powerful, like you have been fighting for your life and then you get to know why the world suddenly turned upside down. I really like the book because this really a different kind of book and i definitely enjoyed it. so if you into dark and twisted world like powerful and vicious then this is your pick. trust me you Won't regret it and please give shout out to this woman who gatherd courage to write this book. @authorpoheli_._ ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 you are in fire. Cant wait for the next book and please violet is in my heart🥲🥲.

In a world infested with demons, nobody is safe. Chaos has been unleashed and people are being killed brutally. The only ones who can save the world are the demon hunters. Max, Felix, Eve, Sylus and Lyria belong to a group of demon hunters and they have made it their life's mission to hunt down these demons and save their world. How? They have superpowers! Each hunting takes a lot from them, but their healer Lyria is there to save them from their fatal wounds.

What caused these demons to roam around freely? Will the demon hunters succeed in their mission?

Read Lust Marked to find it out!

My Notes: I was immediately intrigued when Poheli approached me with this Arc. I'm a big fantasy fan and I was happy to find a fantasy book written by an Indie author. To be honest I got hooked from the very first chapter. It took a few chapters for me to piece it all together, but once I couldn't keep this book down. The writing is amazing and fast paced. I really loved the whole concept and I can't wait to read the next part! Thank you for sharing this Arc with me Poheli. I absolutely loved this book, I hope you guys will enjoy it too.

” I'm a guy with a pipe and zero technique who thought yelling while swinging it would do something.”

Love how it started off with a bloody scene, like my lips were literally tingling when I read that part about her slicing her face. As someone who loves reading about blood and death, the gore in this book was well written. One thing that I did have a problem with was the sudden POV shifts. This is something that should be written at the start of every chapter to avoid confusion and apart from a few other minor adjustments this is a really good book.

The story was fast-paced and easy to follow, which made it such an enjoyable read that I finished it in one sitting. I’m genuinely rooting for this author—it’s not every day that an indie author has the courage to pick up their pen and publish their work. Lust Marked is a promising start, and I’m excited to see where Poheli takes this world and these characters next!

Lust Marked kicks off with a cult summoning gone horribly wrong, unleashing demons and plunging the world into chaos. A group of hunters rises to fight back, each discovering unique magical powers that set them apart, and bind them to a fate bigger than themselves.

The beginning of this book felt a bit complex, and it took me a while to understand where the story was headed. But the short chapters and fast-paced, easy-to-read writing style kept me hooked, and before I knew it, I was flying through the pages. By the end, everything tied together, and I felt like the bigger picture finally clicked into place.

What impressed me most is how dark and atmospheric this novella was, it’s eerie, unsettling, and absolutely perfect for spooky season. At the same time, it’s not just gore and demons; it has warmth, banter, and a strong found family vibe that balanced everything out beautifully.

This arc turned out to be such an intresting and fresh read for me. I like how the story keeps shifting with different perspectives and events, giving the sense of something bigger is happeing. This creates a unique worldbuilding, full of mystery, power and darkness.

If you love stories with monsters, hunters with hidden power, which has a sense of looming danger. Then do this read book. 🩷😊

I am excited to see how the story unfolds in the future.

✨“𝑷𝒐𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒊 𝒄𝒓𝒂𝒇𝒕𝒔 𝒉𝒐𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒓 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒑𝒐𝒆𝒕𝒓𝒚—𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒍𝒐𝒗𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒍𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒓𝒐𝒓, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒔 𝒇𝒓𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝒂𝒔 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒇𝒊𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒆.”

In the shadows, a girl fights to hold onto her humanity—Daphne, marked by a demon’s voice, haunted by what she’s becoming, tethered only by her brother, Di.
Across the land, hunters rise—Felix, Sylius, Max, and Eva—facing monsters, fear, and impossible choices, their courage tested at every turn.

What struck me most about Lust Marked: The Beginning of the End is that it isn’t just a story of monsters and survival.
It’s a story of bonds stretched to breaking.
Of loyalty and sacrifice.
Of the quiet, searing strength it takes to face both the darkness outside… and the darkness within.

Poheli weaves mirrored arcs of horror and love—where human tenderness collides with monstrous terror, and where bravery feels as fragile as it is fierce.

They say you can either fight, or succumb.
This book shows how terrifying—
and how beautiful—
that choice really is.

I loved this book to be honest. It is fast paced, easy read, setting is interesting, banter between the characters are good, the storyline itself a mystery, in depth detailed background of each Demon Hunter characters and their powers.

As an ARC reader; I always wanted to give a chance to the author as they pour their heart and soul to create something magical to read for the readers. Though at first it was a bit confusing for me to start but as I continue reading I felt like this book is about the character blueprint and the setting of the story for the upcoming book. It is great because by the time the book will come out we already know who is who and what they do.

I read this entire book in one sitting. It was refreshing to read and I love each character. Well I love Max's character the most and also I love the banter between Felix and others. The dialogues and writing was very well written. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.2

Dark, emotional, and completely addictive

This book totally caught me off guard in the best way. Also a funny thing is it was my first dark fantasy romance book and I enjoyed every second of it.

At first, the world feels a bit dense with lore, and I wasn’t sure where it was going, but once things started to click, I was completely hooked.

The story follows Daphne, who’s marked by a demon’s voice and desperately trying to hang onto her humanity. Her brother Di is basically her lifeline, but what really stood out to me was the whole cast Felix, Sylius, Max, Eva… they’re all complicated, messy, and incredibly human (even when they’re not exactly human). Everyone’s dealing with trauma, secrets, and impossible choices, and it makes for such a tense, emotional ride.

One of the things I loved most is how Poheli balances everything there’s horror, humor, heartbreak, and a whole lot of emotional chaos. The banter is sharp and often hilarious, but then you’ll hit a scene that absolutely guts you. The relationships are so messy and toxic in that painfully addictive way. Felix and Eva’s dynamic, in particular, had me flipping back and forth between “omg I hate you” and “no wait I love you” every other chapter.

It’s dark fantasy with real emotional weight, and it doesn’t shy away from the ugly sides of love, loyalty, or survival. If you like books that make you feel a little wrecked but in a good way, I highly recommend this one. Can’t wait for book two!

Going to “Lust Marked” by Poheli, I had no clear expectations—only the hope of being surprised. What I found was a fast-paced, action-heavy introduction to a cast of compelling characters. It is evident how much thought was put into the characters and their pasts, as well as the many ghosts that haunt them.
I truely admire Poeli’s ability in writing fight scenes that are tight, visceral, and cinematic. As a writer myself, I know how hard it is to choreograph action in a way that feels both clear and exciting on the page, and Poeli absolutely nails it.
However, I did find the POVs a bit confusing at the beginning—and quite frankly overwhelming as someone who prefers character backstories to be revealed slowly and organically. I definitely believe that this prequel would be much more enjoyable if it were read after the main story as there is a lot of action/external struggle—in addition to the internal ones—which I could imagine myself being even more invested in had I known more information about the world and its setting.
This though, has me looking forward to the novel more than ever, not just to continue the story, but to revisit the prequel with the context needed to appreciate it to its full potential.

Many thanks to @authorpoheli_._ for letting me get a glimpse of this wonderful world and experience its charm firsthand!

“It knows I can’t run.
It knows I can’t scream. Can’t blink.
It doesn’t have to chase.
It just has to take.”

A perfect spooky prequel novella to spice up your fall TBR!

This was a fun, quick read set in a world where demons have begun to walk the earth, and ordinary people are called to fight them. Lust Marked follows multiple characters during the beginning of the end. The story is split across several storylines that eventually converge as time passes and the presence of demons grows stronger.

I really enjoyed the unique structure—it felt like short stories within a novella. Each character’s journey was captivating, and I loved seeing how they reacted when demons began wreaking chaos. The author masterfully blends dark, creepy tension with hints of romance and strong family and friendship ties. There wasn’t a single character I wasn’t intrigued by, and the descriptions were delightfully unsettling. At times, I was slightly confused about who was speaking at the start of chapters, but I quickly caught on. This novella has me eagerly anticipating the first full book in the series!

Recommended for readers who enjoy quick, spooky reads with fascinating characters and compelling themes that keep you hooked until the very last page.

Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

It’s honestly hard to believe this is the author’s debut! The writing is sharp, immersive, and absolutely phenomenal. The story wastes no time — it throws you straight into the chaos with a cult summoning gone horribly wrong, setting the tone for a dark, violent, and utterly gripping journey. From the very first page, there’s action, blood, and pure madness, and it somehow just keeps getting better.

The opening can feel a bit overwhelming at first — there’s a lot of world-building, multiple POVs, and complex backstories coming at you all at once — but that confusion quickly turns into fascination. The pacing is fast, the chapters short and cliffhanger-filled, and before you know it, you’re completely pulled in, flipping pages like there’s no tomorrow.

And that ending… perfection. Every glimpse into the characters’ pasts came together so seamlessly, making the final chaos hit even harder. It all just made sense in the best way possible. If the prequel is already this good, I can only imagine the masterpiece the main book will be. I genuinely can’t wait to read it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Lust Marked by Poheli is a short but very exciting prequel. It starts with normal daily life, but soon everything changes into something dark and strange. People act differently, and the horror slowly grows. The writing is clear, easy to follow, and keeps you curious until the last page. I can’t believe I finished this book in just one day. It was that gripping! At around 150 pages, it’s a quick read but also a strong beginning to The Marked series. The last page was the best, like it keeps you wanting more... Can't believe she's a debut author and she did so well... Parts were confusing in some but you have to continue to understand and voila, at the end, it jut wow...very good!

If you enjoy dark fantasy mixed with horror, this book is definitely worth reading.

⭐️4/5

This book was wild in the best way. The prologue had me hooked right away and it only got darker from there. It’s bloody, creepy, and full of action, but also has great character moments that make you care about the group. I loved their banter, it gave me little breaks from all the chaos.

Sometimes the pacing felt a bit rushed and intense, but honestly, that just added to the whole “can’t put it down” vibe. If you’re into horror with demon lore, lots of gore, and found-family vibes, this is definitely worth picking up. Excited to see where the series goes next!

Lust Marked pulled me in right from page one. The atmosphere is dark, tense, and addictive—I felt like I was running alongside the characters the whole time. The friendships, betrayals, and sacrifices hit hard (Sylus… I want more of him😭). Max became one of my favorites; he’s humorous—YUM! I couldn’t stop reading his chapters. AND I WANT MORE!

What I loved most was that it’s not just action for the sake of action. There’s heart here. The characters feel alive, their choices matter, and the way the demons are written gave me chills. It’s emotional, fast-paced, and just the right amount of haunting.

If you’re into dark fantasy with found family vibes, emotional gut punches, and characters who stay with you long after you close the book, this novella is a must-read.

ARC

I enjoyed this, more than I thought I would. Especially since I’m still stuck on Kpop Demon Hunters, it’s very cool. The only thing I struggled with is the lack of identifying the POVs, in some chapters it was easier to figure it out than others. Also I guess it’s YA the “motherfather” instead of “mother fucker” was cute but not my preference.

Alright, y’all, let’s talk about Lust Marked: The Beginning of the End by Poheli. Damn… for a debut? She really came in swinging. 4 outta five stars from me. 🌟🌟🌟🌟

Not gonna lie, it took me a sec to find my footing in this world- there’s a lot of lore and Poheli doesn’t exactly spoon-feed you. But once the pieces started clicking? Oh girl, I was locked in.

Characters I loved: Eve, Di, Felix 💙💎

Here’s what slapped the hardest:

The emotions: Poheli will literally wreck you in one chapter, then have you giggling in the next. Whiplash much? Yeah. Worth it.

The twists: When you think you’re safe, she pulls the rug out. Half the time I was like “nahhh she did NOT just do that”… but she did.

The characters: messy, flawed, but so damn addictive. You’ll love ’em, hate ’em, and probably switch sides mid-chapter.

Also, the relationships? Chef’s kiss, toxic but in the best way. Complicated, tangled, messy as hell… exactly what I signed up for.

Overall, Lust Marked is a wild, twisty ride. If you want fantasy that punches you right in the feels and keeps you up way past your “just one more chapter” bedtime, this one’s for you.

Lust Marked. This is a masterpiece. The first few pages really grasped my attention, BUT it was the plot that kept me up past midnight. Demons. Hunters. THE TENSION. It all just creates the prefect, eerie atmosphere to make the hair on your skin pin upwards and send taunting chills down your spine.
