She said yes to a fake relationship.
She didn’t expect to fall for the wrong brother.

Piper’s had a crush on her coworker for three years. So when he asks her to join him on his family’s Christmas holiday as his fake girlfriend, she can’t turn down the opportunity to show him how good they’d be together for real. There’s just one tiny problem. She may have oversold her abilities on the slopes. As in, she’s never skied in her life. What’s the worst that could happen?

Mac’s at a crossroads. Should he join his father in the family business or continue flying planes for the Air Force? He doesn’t want to disappoint his family, but does that have to mean giving up his own dreams? And what about the gorgeous girlfriend his younger brother brought on the family vacation and then left to fend for herself? Surely, someone has to make sure she feels welcome.

As Piper gets a glimpse of what a real relationship with her crush would look like, while also spending time with a man who is his complete opposite, she wonders if perhaps she’s hitched herself to the wrong man.

Fans of While You Were Sleeping will enjoy this grumpy/sunshine, fake dating, meddling family, falling for the wrong brother, just kisses Christmas romcom.

It's no big secret to anyone who has been following my reviews for a while that the 'falling for the wrong brother' trope is one of my absolute favorites. It's one of those that seems like it shouldn't work, and in real life would probably be super uncomfortable... but in fiction? Yes, I absolutely love it. Every. Single. Time. Throw in some Christmas cheer and meddling family? Even better. Needless to say, I was pretty excited for this one... and it absolutely did not disappoint! Right from their first interaction, I adored Piper and Mac together. They had such a great chemistry, and the fake dating (with the other brother) made for some fantastic pining... without any cheating or true love triangle vibes. I loved all the Christmas competitions and feeling of family this story brought... a truly perfect holiday read. I loved everything about it and could not get enough! This one is definitely a must read for your holiday TBR.

While You Were Skiing is a closed-door romance with kisses only and no language.

**ARC received for consideration. All opinions are my own.

I love a good romcom, and that is what you get when you read While You Were Skiing. I had a hard time putting it down.

I love Piper's character. I did not understand her crush on self-absorbed, business-minded Lucas. What could possibly go wrong when she agrees to fake date Lucas and go to his family's house for the Christmas holidays?

Read for:

🎿 hazelnut creamer

🎿fake dating

🎿witty banter

🎿the flirting

🎿ski resort

🎿 Lucas' family

🎿Found family

🎿 While You Were Sleeping vibes

🎿heartfelt moments

🎿 unique gift exchanges

While this is somewhat of a love triangle (which I hate), this one was done well. While Piper might have started out wishing there were real feelings on Lucas' part, once she really got to know him, she realized he wasn't all that she had built him up to be. From the moment Piper and Mac met, I was rooting for them. I loved their interactions.

This was such a fun Christmas romcom, I highly recommend it. Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and feelings are my own.

While You Were Skiing is a dual POV fake-dating Holiday romance. When Piper's office crush asks her to pretend to be his girlfriend on a family vacation, she sees it as an opportunity to avoid another lonely Christmas on her own, and maybe even a chance to show him what a good girlfriend she could be. She isn't expecting to meet Mac, his sometimes charming, sometimes grumpy older brother, who just seems to get her. Mac is enamored with Piper and finds himself struggling with some unexpected jealousy towards his younger brother. Feelings are confused, and family is meddling, so it's a perfect Christmas story!

I love the movie While You Were Sleeping, and really enjoyed this cute, kissing-only re-imagining of it. It had a fun fake-dating twist (no one in a coma this time around!) but still all the joy and humor of family shenanigans. A very sweet holiday romance!

If you liked the movie While you were sleeping, this is the book for you. I loved everything about this book, the characters, the story & the play on the movie, while adding its own twist. The natural attraction between Mac & Piper was evident from their first interaction & had me rooting for them from the start.

If you are a fan of romcoms and fun holiday reads, then you should definitely read While You Were Skiing. Plus, if you enjoy a healthy dose of fake dating, there is some of that here with a twist...our heroine's office crush just might not be the right brother for her. Megan's gift for fun banter and touching moments is on full display in this fun holiday read.

A Classic!

I love While You Were Sleeping! When I saw this title I couldn’t resist. Once I started reading the book I couldn’t put it down! I loved Piper and Mac so much! They had great chemistry and connection to one another. I loved the whole quirky family and the nods to the movie. This is a book I want to read over and over again!

I love how an author can take a trope fake dating for the holidays and morph it into something else entirely but still have two people fall for one another. just not the one the fc was fake dating. when you thought the fc was going to fall for her crush oh boy was I wrong

this story was so much about healing from the past moving on with the future.
the FC was incredibly resilient and found a way to turn lemons into lemonade. she was just who I wanted to read about.

the MC never knew what hit him. he loved everything about her. but she was off limits. but he found a way to spend his time with her so truly platonic. he to me definitely fell first.

I don't know about you but I love a clean read. it gets to the story of two people falling for one another without the stuff I have recently called fillers. this author did a fantastic job keeping the story on the up and up without each character appear as they cheated. she wrote it so clean and thoughtful. it was simply delight.

While You Were Skiing is a festive rom-com full of fake dating, family chaos, and unexpected feelings. When our heroine agrees to pose as her coworker’s girlfriend for a Christmas ski trip with his family, she’s expecting a few awkward dinners and maybe a cute photo op.

What she’s not expecting is to fall for his grumpy older brother—the one who clearly doesn’t believe in holiday cheer or fake relationships.

The story feels like a 90s rom-com wrapped in flannel and sprinkled with snow. It’s witty, warm, and just the right amount of messy. Perfect for fans of sunshine/grump dynamics, holiday hijinks, and the spirit of Christmas.

This story is filled with feelings, deceit, a crush, a Christmas loving family, skiing, love, drama, and more. I found it difficult to close my e-reader and get some sleep. I love books that take me away from everyday life.
Piper is a graphic designer and is obsessed with coffee and hazelnut creamer. It seems as if someone has been helping themselves with her creamer. She spots Lucas coming into the break room. He’s usually holed up in his office by this time, but she’s not complaining. Piper has a little crush on him. As she’s filling her coffee with her creamer, she gets lost in her thoughts. She hears someone saying “Paige.” Who is Paige? Lucas is talking to her, she has overfilled her mug and creamer is everywhere. Lucas asks her to order some more creamer since there isn’t any more. Well, crush or no crush, she lets him have it. She corrects him on her name and informs him that the hazelnut creamer is hers and not for everyone to use. After she’s finished ranting, he apologizes and tells her he had no idea it was hers. She should have put her name on it. Well, her initials are on the lid. He has the audacity to reach in and grab another container of creamer. Piper informs him that it belongs to Christy. “He inspects the bottle. ‘I don’t see a name.’” “Did you put any creamer in the refrigerator?” “No.” He returns the bottle to the fridge. Now Piper is put off by his inattentiveness and thinks about how they’ve “worked in the same building for three years and even assisted with a few of his projects.
Lucas has an industrial sized container of creamer for Piper the next day and he wants her to join him for lunch. She’s wondering why he wants to take her to lunch. “I want to ask you something, but it requires a bit of explanation.” He invites her to Marco’s…she’s not turning that down. It’s an upscale steakhouse that she’s been wanting to visit.
Lucas doesn’t beat around the bush; he wants Piper to “join me for the Christmas holiday with my family. As my girlfriend.” Piper is lost in her thoughts of could this be real and did she hear what he asked her correctly? It seems as if Lucas had a girlfriend and had already informed his family, he was bringing her. He doesn’t want to have to explain everything about the breakup, especially at Christmas. Lucas is offering her “an all-expense paid holiday at a ski resort.” He’s also ready to “book a day at the spa, give you a shopping spree in town, whatever you want.” Piper has some questions about how long the trip will be and what she will need to do. The trip will be for nine days, family game nights, hanging out, food, Christmas movies, and more. Piper will also need to pretend they’re in love. The trip will be to “Steamboat Springs that has a ski resort.” There will be other things to do such as snowshoeing, hiking, and many other things to do. After talking with her girlfriend, Christy, she decides to go along with the plan. Maybe the pretend relationship will become real relationship.
Now, Lucas is not known for his attentiveness or thoughtfulness at all. His family takes to Piper right away and is warm and welcoming He’s gung ho on competing with his brother, Mac and tackling the high mountains on the first outing. Mac notices Piper’s hesitancy right away and offers to choose a less strenuous slope, but she wants to make Lucas proud. Pride is such a terrible thing. She has no business being on that mountain.
This story is filled with so much going on and I don’t want to spoil it and reveal too much here. Just trust me when I say drama, I mean drama…not the bad kind of drama. Competition during the Christmas activities, cookie decorating, etc. Lucas may not be outgoing, but his family is. There’s also his brother Mac who takes a liking to Piper. Including her in things when Lucas is busy with an old friend (female) and work. What will happen with this charade? Will the two of them be able to pull it off? Will Mac call him out on not paying enough attention to Piper? Will the secret of them not being an actual couple be revealed? 📕 Standalone
🎭 Genre: Christmas Romcom

🥜 In a Nutshell: A woman agrees to fake date her office crush so he can appease his family during their Christmas ski trip. While on the trip, she hopes to grow closer to him but she finds herself more attracted to his older brother instead.

✅ While You Were Sleeping vibes
✅ Fake dating
✅ Falling for the wrong brother

One of my all time favorite romcoms is While You Were Sleeping and I watch it almost every Christmas Eve. This book was the perfect lead up to that since it was a sort of retelling of the story. There were differences, of course, but I appreciated all of the nods to the movie. Piper and Mac had great chemistry and I loved all of the fun activities they did together while Lucas was busy with work. I love that no lines were crossed (even though it was fake dating) and they just yearned for each other until the truth came out. The Christmas activities really put me in a festive mood and the family was filled with fun characters too. This was just a fantastic all around Christmas romance with everything I was hoping for!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and even though I wasn’t required to post a review I wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression I had upon finishing it.

Megan has written a book whose premise is instantly familiar to anyone whose seen the movie, While You Were Sleeping. Here, however, the person Piper has secretly had a crush on for three years finally asks her something she’s waited all that time for- only it’s not real! He wants her to pretend to be her fake girlfriend for his families annual Christmas get together after he has broken up with his girlfriend. She sees it as a way to show him how good she could be in his life if their relationship was really real. However, his inattentiveness and the attraction she feels towards his older brother complicates things including how she feels towards his entire family!

I really enjoyed this story of unexpected occurrences which escalated until she had to inform his family of the deception and leaving them. It has the happily ever she didn’t see coming and I was happy and pleased with the results.

During this Christmas season it behooves us all to try and be more friendly to one another. Loneliness is crippling any time of the year but especially painful when it’s when people gather together to share joy and happiness and you’re alone.

I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend you read this sweet, no spice book and discover how two people find love even when it wasn’t intended as such. If you love romcoms you’ll love this story! If you want to remain a grinch during this happy holiday time, perhaps not but who knows maybe you’re heart will grow three sizes like the grinch if you read this story and you’ll find yourself happy and glad you did!

This book was so much fun to read that I read it in less than 24 hours! I loved how the author took the plot of a beloved movie and put her own spin on it. I had a blast visiting Steamboat Springs with Piper and the Cahill family. The setting really came to life as they went skiing and ice-skating and did all the other snowy/Christmassy things. The Cahill family was adorable with their meddling and the way they included Piper in their festivities. Mac especially was so sweet with her. I loved his and Piper's flirty-turned-awkward meet-cute. Just like in the movie, While You Were Sleeping, Piper crushes on the wrong brother. I liked how the author made it clear that Lucas wasn't the one for her without turning him into a complete jerk. It makes me eager to find out what his HEA will look like one day. If you're looking for a fun, cozy, and clean holiday romance, I highly encourage you to check this one out!

Thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.

This is While You Were Sleeping 2.0 -- a loving tribute to the movie, full of Easter Eggs for those who loved the original romcom.

This was a well-written reimagination of the Bill Pullman/Sandra Bullock Christmas romcom. This time it's set in the Colorado Rockies on a ski resort. The two dreamy brothers--one a successful sales rep, the other an Air Force pilot--both have their appeal, and they both send signals to Piper that she's something pretty special. But as the story progresses, it's clear which one is Mr. Right. With two love triangles for the price of one and a loving ensemble cast, there are plenty of chuckles and sighs throughout the story. I loved the texting with emojis. I loved the cool tidbits I learned about skiing, skating, and painting, and I loved that *everyone* gets a Happily Ever After!

Oh my goodness! All the feels for this book! If you loved “While You Were Sleeping” you will love this story. Megan Byrd is a talented author who tugs at your heartstrings and wraps you up in the warm feelings of this sweet romance.

Piper agrees to pose as a fake girlfriend on a Family Christmas visit with her office crush. She can’t resist the opportunity to show him how good they could be together. Unfortunately, all does not go as planned. She soon realizes that he’s not a good fit for her, but his older brother Mac is.

Mac is instantly attracted to Piper, but she’s off limits since she’s his brother’s girlfriend.

Get ready for awkward moments, messy situations and lots of great moments with this amazing family. I love the way the author makes impossible situations possible, so everyone gets their happily ever after. This one gets all the stars from me!

❄️Fake Dating, Found Family, and All the Christmas Feels❄️

I absolutely loved this book! It gave me all the feels and then some! Finding love when you least expect it always gets me, especially when there's a fake dating setup and the older brother suddenly enters the picture to shake things up.

Mac, was the sweetest and most caring guy, and I loved how Piper noticed his selflessness and gently challenged him to put himself first for once. Their chemistry, the drama, and the fun moments made this story so worth it.

If you're in the mood for a heartfelt, cozy romance with all the sweet feels and a Christmas setting that'll have you craving hot chocolate and to be apart of the Cahill family, then definitely add this one to your TBR!🎄

Thank you for this gifted copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Fun Tribute to "While You Were Sleeping"

So, "While You Were Sleeping" is my favorite rom-com/Christmas movie. So when I saw this book, I just had to read it. I love the various references to the movie that the author wove into the story.

It was heartwarming, and the clock just had passed midnight on New Years Eve as I finished reading the book, which was appropriate - as that's the time frame in which the story itself ended.

This is a great story even for those who haven't seen the original movie that it's based on, but familiarity with the movie definitely adds to the enjoyment.

If you enjoy books with a big, welcoming family, ski resort vacation, Christmas traditions, and sweet gestures, give this one a try.

Megan Byrd is a new-to-me author, but I will definitely be reading more of her books in the future.

I loved this story, I couldn't put it down! It is a sweet romance which starts with a secret crush, which leads to agreeing to a fake dating agreement while attending a family Christmas holiday trip, which is where you then meet the real person of your dreams. (Fortunately the talented author, Megan Byrd, writes better than me.)

I especially liked the way the author weaves in Piper’s family life's background throughout the story. The Cahil's holiday traditions added fun to the book and Nana was a gem of a character. All the characters were written well adding depth to the story. Don't forget to read the bonus chapter from the author's website.

I received a free advance copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

So cute! I loved all the “While You Were Sleeping” movie similarities!! So so so fun to read this book! Piper is a sweet gal and Mac is the protective older brother. So when Piper’s fake boyfriend (Mac’s brother, Lucas) speeds down the mountain on a hard/steep run, Mac instinctively protects and coaches Piper down the mountain. The rest is history after that. Not really, the moments and deep conversations these two lovebirds have is heartwarming. Although they aren’t love birds because “Piper is dating my brother”. The ending is so cute and I love when a MMC chases after the FMC. So good! Thank you @megan.e.byrd for an early copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I am very happy to recommend this adorable, fun, fake dating, falling-for-the-wrong-brother story. I am happy to have been one of Megan's beta readers, and wow, did she deliver in this final copy of the novel!

I really enjoyed this novel. Piper is great and very cute and also human. Mac is so very grumpy. and Lucas is, well, both thoughtful and a bit of a jerk. So is Mac, in some ways, to be honest. In other words, the whole cast is human.

"Is this a kissing book?" Yes, but in a good way.

Readers may find similarities to another famous holiday film (also mentioned in the story), but to be honest, it struck me out of the blue--in a good way! From the beginning, this novel had all the earmarks and flow of a Hallmark holiday film–in all the best ways! Cozy, fun, happily-ever-after. P

The similarities between this and one of my all-time favorite movies (While You Were Sleeping) were there, but with enough differences to make it it’s own satisfying experience. This book is warm and sweet, showcasing great chemistry between Piper and Mac. I enjoyed their moments together as they grew closer. I’ll admit fake dating/fiancee tropes aren’t my favorite, especially if the reason is somewhat superficial, which this book kinda leaned toward. I can see how other readers who love that trope won’t mind one bit. Regardless, I did enjoy reading this book and look forward to other books from Megan.

I love when a random impulse read gives me all the feels. I was a little worried it would be weird with the family dynamics or that it would be a love triangle- it was written in a creative way so that was not the case. I did think the deceit went on a little longer than I’d like and then the ending rushed a tad. But, there was a ton of holiday spirit and the romance was slow and sweet.

Told in dual POV’s, Piper & Mac were really kindred spirits. I really can’t see why she even liked her coworker enough to even help him out with his family scheme.

4.5 overall and rounded up. I will eagerly seek out another book by this author.

While You Were Sleeping is a family favorite so I really enjoyed this reimagining of it. Plenty of touches from the movie to satisfy but also plenty enough differences to be satisfied that it is its own story. One can still enjoy this book without ever having seen the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loved the characters. Loved the family. Loved the story.

A darling take on a true classic and much loved story.
Excellent balance between building the romance but not making it icky for our female protagonist the brothers.
