Sometimes the safest place to be is in the arms of the most dangerous man you know.

Nineteen-year-old Sarah Williams was never supposed to fall for her brother’s best friend—and she was never supposed to be hunted, either.

But when her world collapses and the men chasing them show no mercy, Sarah finds herself running across a lawless, shattered Colorado with her brother Michael and the one man she should have stayed away from.

James Hill is an Outsider. A man with too many scars, too many secrets, and a past that could get them all killed.
He’s the kind of man you should fear… and the one who’ll risk everything to keep her safe.

But James’s secrets burn deeper than scars.
And in this world, loving him might be the most dangerous choice of all.

Tatiana Machado started writing short stories at the age of eighteen and never imagined they would one day grow into something bigger. After graduating from law school, she decided to bring her characters to life in her debut novel, All Because of Me.
Tatiana writes romance laced with darkness, humor, and the will to survive. She finds inspiration in quiet places and late-night thoughts with just the right amount of chaos. When she’s not writing, she’s probably watching horror movies, rewatching Gilmore Girls for the twentieth time, planning her next trip, or searching for chocolate.

“And I’m gonna miss her. Miss me.”

That line broke me. This book broke me. But I’d read it again in a heartbeat. I need book two. I need to know what happens next. I need them to be okay. And I need it now. Please.

I didn’t know a book could hurt this beautifully.
Those last chapters, I had to put the book down just to breathe. The way everything comes full circle broke me in the best way.

“There. Are. No. More. Rules.”
Yep. That’s all I needed to know. This book grabbed me. I was hooked. I read it in one sitting, ignored all my responsibilities, and now I need a James of my own. Or therapy. Or both.

Touch her and die. That’s the book. That’s the whole vibe. And I loved it!!
James Hill is dark, brooding, loyal, and somehow the safest place in the world. I didn’t expect to love him this much, but the man knows her favorite tea. I need an Outsider now.

Favorite quotes that made me feral:

🖤 “Your bed?”
“Our bed!”
🖤 “I’ll be watching you very closely from now on, little danger.”
🖤 “Any favorite color?”
“Your eyes.”

I could keep going but just… read this book.

OK BUT WHAT DID BRIAN DO???
I’m not the only one who’s been haunted by this, right? Sarah doesn’t talk about it, but something happened back at that ranch with Brian and I need to know. I don’t trust that man. Not even a little. Give me answers in book two please and thank you for the book.

I came for the dystopia. I stayed for the chaos and the spicy.
Not me thinking this was gonna be some dark, brooding Hunger Games knockoff… and then James ties her up with his belt and I’m like “HELLO???”
Also: “Your bed?” / “Our bed!” = 🫠
Please tell me there’s a scene on a train or something in book two because at this point they’ve done it literally everywhere.

Wow!!
This book reminds me of maze, the hunger games and the divergent. Loved how every chapter had so much detail, it was like it was playing a movie in my head. I thought it was standalone first but the last page told me there has to be another book coming and i’m so excited for it. i hope everyone gets their happy ending! i cried, i laughed, i smiled!

I didn’t think I’d love a dystopian romance, but I was wrong.
This isn’t some over-the-top, robots-fighting-over-love kind of dystopia. It’s grounded. Gritty. It feels real. Like this could actually happen. And that made the romance hit harder. The danger felt real. The love felt earned. I’m obsessed. Can't wait for book two.

Michael got ONE chapter and I’m already in love with him.
I didn’t think anyone could steal the spotlight from James, but here comes Michael with his quiet strength and dry humor. His chapter added so much depth. His love for his sister?? His guilt?? I’m not okay. Please tell me Olivia’s book is coming soon, I’m already crying for them.

Every detail matters. This book doesn’t waste a single word. The way the memory of Sarah taking about elevators with her dad and James later watches her telling Michael? Or like Sarah mentioning the smell of strawberry cake at breakfast and Michael bringing it up later. It’s all connected. It’s all so intentional. And that made it stick. Beautiful writing.

“He was warm and safe and mine.”
If you’re here for the love story, you’ll get it. Sarah and James are one of those couples that shouldn’t work. He’s her brother’s best friend. She’s too soft for this world. But watching them fall for each other, even in the middle of all that danger? Beautiful. I believed in them. Every second.

It’s hot. But it’s also real.
The spicy scenes?? 🔥 But what made them unforgettable was that they meant something. The lake scene… the roof… even the belt scene (yes, that one)… every moment felt earned. These weren’t just random sex scenes, they were filled with trust and emotion. So well written.

Is it still romance if I cry at every third chapter and blush at the rest?

This book was the ultimate dystopian touch her and you will die type of book. The way that they loved each other in spite of all the chaos around them was so beautiful. My heart ached for them but their love strengthens each other and made them stronger. It made them stronger individually and together they were and are an unstoppable force no matter how many times the enemy tried to knock them down.

Man, I hate this book because I liked it and now that means I have to invest myself in another series and I hate series.

*spoiler-ish?*

I enjoyed the dynamics of the characters and the world building. The author does a good job of capturing the post-apocalyptic feeling while maintaining the sense of innocence of a bunch of young people trying to survive in a not so innocent world. It did get a bit repetitive, considering the length of the book, but the whole "nowhere is safe" feeling was maintained all the way through and I felt it was well done nonetheless. I had a lot of frustrations with Sarah; James and Michael are doing all they can to protect her while her adventurous and carefree nature makes her come off as extremely inconsiderate to their efforts. Of course, with the final events of the book leaving her fearful, she genuinely comes to understand the dangers that her powerlessness and carelessness entails. I also found that much like James and Michael, I wished she could live in a carefree world safe from all danger.

James' distress and the realization of the difficulties of protecting Sarah cuts deep. I always imagine having children in the same setting, how the heck would I be able to protect them if there's a predator at every turn? I am quite sympathetic to his dilemma and I too would put Sarah in a bubble if I could.

That being said, I am quite invested in James and Sarah so I'm hopeful that they can eventually reach a happy place.

6 stars if I could!
This is the first dystopian world I’ve ever read that felt like a real contemporary romance. Nothing bizarre, just the scary possibility of a world where everything familiar is gone.
The way the story shows what’s been lost through Sarah’s eyes was beautiful. The slow build, the emotions, the sense of what’s changed and what hasn’t... Perfect. Not rushed. Not over-explained.
The writing is incredible. The action scenes had my heart pounding and the romance too. Every character is so vivid and unique. I laughed and cried a lot. If you're even thinking about reading this, do it. You won’t regret it.

(P.S. I received an early copy from the author.)

Every character had their own voice. It’s rare to read a debut where the characters feel this real.
James isn’t just the love interest. Sarah isn’t just a pretty narrator.
Michael, Alicia, Lorelai, even Ryan, are alive on the page.
Dystopia might be the backdrop, but this is a story about love.
I had so much fun reading this. Thank you to the author for the copy, I’m already ready for book two.

I only read fantasy and I’m crying over this dystopian romance. Help.
I came here expecting… I don’t even know. Maybe some Mad Max stuff? Instead, I got trauma, longing, tension so thick I couldn’t breathe, and the most devastatingly soft line I’ve ever read:

“I’ll never lose you. You’re a part of me. And I’m a part of you.”

Brb throwing my fantasy sword down and sobbing in a field.

Michael. My man. Give him a book or give me death.
The way I loved this dude from the start and then BOOM... he gets a POV chapter and I’m like: yes. Yes, this man deserves love, peace, and someone named Olivia.
I will not rest until I see him get his story.
I already lost O—
DON’T DO THIS TO ME.

Now that’s what dystopian romance is supposed to feel like.
Not aliens. Not zombies. Just a world falling apart and two people who fall in love anyway.
Sarah gives James hope. He gives her protection. And their story is so raw, intense, and beautiful I couldn’t stop reading.

💌 Thanks to the Author who provided me a copy. You’ve got a new fan.

Hope doesn’t die. Sarah brought it back.
The contrast between the violence of the world and the softness of their love is exactly what makes this book unforgettable.
Yes, there’s action. Yes, it’s sexy. But it’s also a story about healing.
And watching James slowly start to believe in something because of Sarah? I cried.
Thanks to the author for the copy and the emotional damage.
