Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic

Rate this book
**Narrated by the author!** Unfiltered. Unapologetic. And straight from the source. Get intimate with Bunnie Xo as she narrates her own incredible story. From the trailer parks of Vegas to the mansions of Nashville, Bunnie Xo has lived a lot of lives and seen the darkest sides of humanity. Her memoir, Stripped Unfiltered and Unapologetic, is cold, clear evidence that no one is irredeemable. With a heavy dose of humor and a refreshing sense of self-awareness, Bunnie pulls no punches as she shares her journey of redemption while offering some homespun wisdom to those who need a little saving themselves. Alisa DeFord, known to her millions of fans as Bunnie Xo, started at the bottom and spent the first part of her life falling even deeper. Now, Bunnie Xo is one of today’s most successful podcasters and has paved her way through the entertainment industry as the owner of Dumb Blonde Productions, building an empire with heart and personality at the forefront. Stripped Down is the story of how Bunnie Xo rose to the top, how she used her own wiles to reach her goals, how she knew redemption was up to her—and that no one could hand it to her—and a message to anyone who needs advice on breaking their own cycles. Hilarious, earnest, thought-provoking, and occasionally downright shocking, Stripped Down is a modern-day rag-to-riches story and a message of hope to anyone struggling to redeem themselves.

Stripped Down: Unfiltered and Unapologetic by Bunnie XO is exactly what the title promises a raw, honest, and completely unfiltered memoir. Alisa (Bunnie XO) doesn’t shy away from any details. She owns her mistakes, embraces who she is, and never apologizes for it.

Listening to her narrate her own memoir adds an extra layer of impact, especially in the vulnerable & heartbreaking moments. She’s funny, she’s real, and she brings her story to life in a way that feels deeply personal.

I highly recommend the audiobook!

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! I listed to the audio version, and so happy I did. Hearing Bunny’s voice as she read, you could feel her emotions. Listening to her choking up, and hear her sniffle had me in tears. Even listening to the acknowledgments had me in tears. She is an excellent writer, I hope she continues writing.

Stripped Down is a raw, unfiltered journey of self‑exploration, survival and transformation. I listened to the entire audiobook in one day because Bunnie’s voice and honesty pulled me in completely. She shares the trauma of her childhood — abandonment, SA, instability and being consistently overlooked — and the painful moments in her teens and adulthood that shaped her. She opens up about the struggles in her relationship with Jelly, the hard truths they faced, and how they rebuilt with honesty and commitment.

What moved me most was watching her grow into the woman she needed as a child: a steady mother figure for Bailee, a partner who shows up, and a woman who finally learns to show up for herself. Her story is heartbreaking, healing, and ultimately empowering. She doesn’t just survive — she rises.

If you love Bunnie, you’ll love this truly Unapologetic and Unfiltered story. There were no bars held with this one. Bunnie had me laughing, crying, and wanting to stand next to her ready to defend her. Whatever you thought you knew about Bunnie, this sheds more light on how she became the truly amazing person she is today.

In how do you rate & review someone else's story? The guts it takes to be open and raw is already a 5⭐️ rating imo.
Being a Bunnie fan anyway, I felt like I heard about a lot of this from the podcast/ YouTube. But there was also a ton that I hadn't heard.
I think any of her fans know and expect the truth from Bunnie but hearing/ reading it in such a personal way hits differently.
I'm excited for her, J, the kids && their future

This book is raw emotional Bunnie style. I’m so glad to have read this. She’s done it classy from start to finish or I should say current chapter of her life quickly and with only 32 chapters. she’s done more in this book than authors who have been seasoned can do so proud of you.

PS I use voice to text as I put my child to sleep. I have no desire to go back and edit this deal with that.

Loved hearing her story, in her own voice (audio version). It was raw, truthful and took you to the depths of her hell. But yet, she rises above it, and is open and honest of what she did to survive. Putting her own life, completely unfiltered into a memoir is a five star rating in my mind.

"Stripped me down to my core and rebuilt me"

I went into "Stripped Down" thinking I knew Bunnie Xo from her podcast. I was wrong. I knew nothing.

This memoir isn't just a celebrity telling her story—it's a survival manual written in blood, tears, and hard-won wisdom. Bunnie writes with the kind of honesty that makes you uncomfortable because you realize she's holding nothing back, even when it makes her look messy, complicated, and human.

The chapter on "Karma" (her abusive ex) should be distributed in every women's shelter in America. She doesn't sensationalize the violence—she simply reports it: the gun in her mouth, the strangulations that permanently damaged her vocal cords, the fractured orbital bone, the hospital records that doctors said looked like women who "had died from strangulation." And then she writes about going back to him. Again and again. Because that's what abuse does to your brain. That honesty?

That's the gift of this book.

But here's what I didn't expect: the love story. Not just with Jelly Roll (though their origin—him asking "What's your five-year plan?" before sleeping with her—is the most romantic thing I've ever read). But the love story with herself. Watching her claw her way from a fourteen-year-old runaway sleeping on couches to a multimillionaire business owner who broke generational trauma for her daughter Bailee?

I sobbed.

Her mother Vanessa dying alone in a hospital while Bunnie raced to get there. Her father Bill cutting her out of his will with the cruel words "I bequeath nothing to my daughter Alisa because she's well off." Her aunt Andi holding her head underwater.

Her stepmom Mindy putting her head through a door. And still—still—she writes: "My heart breaks for the little boy in him who never healed."

The spiritual thread throughout—the guardian angel in the taxi, the pink galaxy vision with her dying father-in-law, the butterflies after Bill's death—gave me chills. She doesn't ask you to believe. She just tells you what she experienced.

If you're surviving something right now. If you've ever wondered whether your past disqualifies you from future happiness. If you need proof that healing isn't linear and you don't have to be perfect to be worthy—read this book.

I highlighted dozens of passages, but this one will stay with me: "If you keep carrying old bricks, you'll keep building the same house. Drop that brick. Build something stunning."

Bunnie Xo built a mansion. And she left the door open for the rest of us.

BUNNIE !!!!

Bunnie... I dont know if you'll ever see this- but I'm writing as if this review would land in your hands..

this booooook. I felt every emotion reading this .. girl, your writing !??? Stoooop. So beautifully written! And that's coming from someone who reads hundreds of book a year.

First.. the way I cackled out loud .. the church- Madonna song listing part had me DEAD 😂 also.. the stanky fluff had me rolling !

I feel so connected to your story for many different reasons , the mommy/daddy issues. The partying . I turned to men to feel loved too. Became pregnant at 14. Failed marriages etc.. not to mention my intuitive self, spiritual giftedness. Also, my husband grew up in a tin can trailer in.... yep Las Vegas. His childhood also mirrors yours. We found each other in 2016 and have the most beautiful blended family.

I cried for your successful bits, when you stood up for yourself, when you couldn't stand up for yourself.. all the things .. but what really made me have to pause and wipe my tears was when you kept wanting to save those through and from all their pain- while they simultaneously caused yours .. even some of whom who wronged you their entire lives..

It's a true testament to your character. I hope you and J enjoy every bit of success and happiness that comes your way. I want to see the babies crawling at your feet. I want to see you have the peace and healing that comes with having all that you dream of.

I'm crying again ..

Anyways- I loved this. What a beautiful story ❤️

Ok so my review is absolutely honest because unlike a lot of these reviews I was not a huge Bunnie fan. Now, I say that lightly because I do listen to her podcast. Not because I love her but because I do think she’s an empathetic journalist. I know some people might not see her as a journalist but she does a lot of research prior to guests and she seems to always ask the right questions.

I am so far from being like bunny, I’m a tomboy, I hate rich men, I don’t like that look, being in Playboy never appealed to me. In other words we are total opposites, or so I thought.

From page one until the end her life and my life had so many parallels. Not exact situations but the feelings behind those situations were much like mine. Guilt, shame, independence, toxic relationships, addiction, anxiety, depression, chaos, mommy issues, daddy issues, resilience, independence, etc etc. When I stopped comparing and started identifying with her story I was able to see the strength and determination in her life but also IN MINE! Inspiring book to say the least. Not to be cliche but Bunnie and this book prove you can NEVER judge a book by its cover. The only reason why it’s not a 5 star review is because I only give 5’s to the greats. (Example: Toni Morrison) I will read or listen to anything Bunnie does because one way or another I will be able to learn something about myself or this world. ❤️❤️❤️

I love when an author narrates their own memoir, and listening to Bunnie XO tell her own story made this experience even more powerful. There’s something special about hearing the emotion, the pauses, the laughter, and the heartbreak in her actual voice—it adds a whole other layer of authenticity. I absolutely devoured this in a single day.
I don’t usually rate biographies because, honestly, who am I to rate someone’s life? But this one? Without hesitation—five stars.
Watching Bunnie’s growth and development unfold throughout the book was incredible. She doesn’t shy away from the messy parts, the mistakes, or the hard lessons. Instead, she lays them out with honesty and self-awareness, allowing you to truly see how far she’s come. The transformation isn’t just inspiring—it feels earned.
What stood out to me most, though, was her heart. The grace and forgiveness she extends to people who, by most standards, absolutely do not deserve it speaks volumes. That level of maturity and kindness doesn’t happen by accident; it’s something forged through experience, reflection, and strength. Her compassion never feels performative—it feels real.
This memoir is raw yet polished, vulnerable yet empowering. Whether you’re already a fan or just stepping into her world for the first time, it’s a story that stays with you.

I'm not sure there are words to describe how hauntingly beautiful this book was. Bunnie has a true gift for telling a story and really sucking you into her world. This book was impossible to put down (I did listen to the audio while I wait for my signed copy) and will live rent free in my head for days to come. I am floored by the connection I feel to her just from listening to her recount her life, and hearing how she rose from ash has given me hope for a better future. Not just for myself, but the possibility for a better future for anyone who dares to dream it for themselves. I can't say I've been a Bunnie "Stan" from the very beginning because I'm pretty far removed from the media and late to the party most of the time. What I can say is, ever since I've known of her existence, I have felt nothing but a glowing, beautifully positive aura radiating from her and now I see why. She has had a horrendously torturous life, and somehow in lieu of that, she has maintained love and light. I am truly in awe of her talent and her character and to know her on a personal level HAS to be a gift. Bravo. This just may be my read of the year. 1000/10

For starters, I’m usually not one to read memoirs.
But this one, this was the ONE. This was the one that I had preordered and ready to read when it slid in my mailbox.

Bunnies story will make you feel so much all at once. At times, I cried for the little girl that she was and everything she had endured. The life that she lived was absolutely insane, the fact that this woman is still breathing after everything she had gone through? CRAZY.

I now have a new found prospective for DV victims, I now understand every decision leading up to why it is so hard to get away.

This was such a beautiful, truly heartbreaking story that will stand with me for a long time. This is the memoir of the year for me. If I could’ve given it a million stars I definitely would have.

I love you Bunnie, XO <3

I impatiently waited for this book for months and I ate it up! Bunnie XO, you are so brave for putting your story out there! I am so proud of you! (And your husband!)

The only thing I wish I would have been able to read more about was your sobriety journey and the raw, hard days you fought through while detoxing and getting/staying sober. The reason being is that I have lots of family members who have struggled with addiction. I think it would have been helpful for people who have never done hard drugs, like myself, to understand the battle of “getting sober” their loved ones are facing. I also believe reading about this time in your life would help to encourage those who are on a sobriety journey as they go through the steps.

Thank you for sharing your story with the world and congrats on going #1!!!!!!

Stripped Down was an incredibly powerful read. I loved this book, even though parts of it were heartbreaking and devastating. Bunnie XO shares her story with honesty and courage, shedding light on the abuse she endured and the traumatic experiences she witnessed at the hands of both men and women in her life. No one deserves to be treated the way she was.

What stood out to me most was her strength. Despite everything stacked against her, she refused to give up. Her ambition, resilience, and determination to build a better life for herself and for the people she loved were truly inspiring. This book is painful at times, but it’s also empowering. It’s a testament to survival, growth, and choosing yourself, even when it feels impossible.

I didn’t expect to connect with this book as much as I did. It felt really honest. Bunny doesn’t try to act perfect or like she has all the answers — she talks about her own growth in a way that feels real and relatable.

Some parts made me uncomfortable (in a good way) because they forced me to look at myself and my patterns. I appreciated that she talked about accountability, not just blaming other people for everything that goes wrong. That stood out to me.

It’s not one of those fluffy “everything will be fine” books. It’s more about doing the work and being honest with yourself. If you’re into personal growth and relationships, I think it’s definitely worth reading.

I absolutely loved this memoir and would highly recommend it to anyone. The challenges, trauma, life changing events, that you learned she went through makes you appreciate and call her a bad ass independent woman! I would highly let my daughter look up to her to see everything she has gone thru in her life to see where she is now. She never gave up on what she believed as well as kept pushing on when most wouldn't. In her memoir she has no hold backs just like her title and gives no apologies like the title as well. The complete truths in this memoir is more then a lot of people I know would admit to themselves let alone out for everyone in the world to read.

Bunnie, I applaud you for all the hurt and tragedy you’ve been through in life. No matter how tough life got you kept going and that makes you such a badass mom, wife and friend! You did an amazing job writing this memoir and being able to listen to you read it raw and unfiltered brought on all the emotions. I wanted to just give you the biggest hug at times and let you know you are enough. I’m so proud of how hard you fought and how open and honest you are. Keep living your truth and thanks for sharing the broken pieces in your beautiful heart with the world! XO

A Crazy Story of Redemption

If you like BunnieXO, you definitely want to read this memoir. She writes with total honesty - even when the story makes her look bad. She had a sad, abusive upbringing and was on the streets fending for herself at the age of 14. She learned a lot of lessons in her hard life. Most important was learning that she is worthy of true love. I found this to be a fast-paced read. Heartbreaking yet redemptive. I love you Bunny! Thanks for writing such a great book!

I’ve followed Bunnie since the start of her podcast. Ima Stan frfr. She has literally fought her whole
Life to get to where she is now. Her resilience, faith, and mindset are so incredibly inspiring. She doesn’t know me but she’s always talked to us like another one of our besties and her book is the same. I stayed up way too late trying to finish and I’d do it again and again! I’m gonna circle back with the audiobook just to experience that version with her narrating. I laughed and cried for her and I’ll always appreciate everything she is as a human. 🖤

WOOF — I always feel a little strange reviewing a memoir; it feels so personal to put someone else’s real life into star ratings.

But as someone who’s spent a long time feeling like I was never anyone’s first choice, this book reached places in me I didn’t even realize needed healing. Truly the book I didn’t know I needed.

Bunnie’s story took me through every emotion—I laughed, I cried, I ugly-cried, rolled my eyes at the male species, and came away reminded of the power of girlhood and the people who show up for us.

Extremely raw, venerable and personal.
