She wants to escape her fate. But he'll never let her go.

Lucie

All my life, I've lived for others. For the family, as my father drilled into me since I was a kid. For my cousin, our don, who called on me to marry a man I didn't love to serve the Ventura name.
Now, freshly divorced at twenty, I escape to Edinburgh, determined to leave the mafia behind, and focus on myself.
But it seems that danger follows me everywhere I go. I never see his face, but I know he's here, waiting for me in the shadows. And my treacherous heart can't stop longing for the dark desires he ignites inside me.

Toma

Lucie Ventura is a beautiful liar, prentending to be wholesome and sweet. Behind the smiles and the the laughter, a beast yearns for a monster to devour her whole.
Ever since I met her while we rescued her cousin, I haven't been able to get her out of my head. She's burrowed deep into my psyche, and I never want her out.
She says she's done with mafia men. Too bad, I'm not done with her.
And I'll do anything to make her mine. Including protecting her from the horrors of my past.

Author's Hateful Secrets can be read as a stand-alone. For full enjoyment, it is recommended to read Hateful Vows first. Hateful Secrets is a stalker mafia romance on the light side of the dark romance spectrum, featuring a strong FMC and a golden retriever of a stalker who would do anything for his woman. Guaranteed HEA.

Man obsessed anyone?! This is a quick read filled with suspense, tension, yearning and spice! The main characters have such a chemistry with a sweet slow burn build up made this such an enjoyable read! Lucie is such a baddie, she held her own so well from the minute we met her in book one and she had the funnest personality and love for spicy alien books. Toma really had been through so much seeing him come out of his shell and his strong protective side of his girl was everything. I recommend starting with book one as it will make you so attached to these characters but I do feel like it could be read as a stand alone. Happy reading!

Tropes:

🖤v!rgin MMC
💋Plus-size FMC

💋Open door romance

!!PLEASE READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!! (mention of human trafficking, death, child abuse, on page rape, physical abuse, gore, blood, murder, torture)

Stalker MMC + Mafia

The spice between these characters felt off. I wanted more of a connection between them and it just made me feel sad that they were two people with traumatic backgrounds who randomly decided to get together. Idk I just wanted more love than lust to begin with. I also felt that this had all the same tropes as every other dark romance book out there. It didn’t feel new or noteworthy. And the third act breakup was very cliche.

Ahhh I was so excited for Toma and Lucie!!! Lucie is one of my fav side characters from Hateful Vows, I’m so glad she has a book of her own.

Toma has B A G G A G E (I mean, don’t we all). But this man. THIS MAN. He had a rough childhood. Rougher than most. And it had haunted him straight through to the end of this book. Check the trigger warnings for entire chapter that may or may not ruin dinner and make you nauseous. It was for the plot but DAMNIT IT HURT.
But he’s pierced and a virgin so don’t ask me if I’m reading it, its already downloaded and ready to go DUH

And my girl Lucie - she’s a badass in training. She is doing her best to get out of the world she grew up in, only to realize that’s not going to happen. You only ever leave the mafia in a coffin, babygirl. Shit is like a cult.

I loved the way the mc’s complimented each other perfectly, Toma’s darkness to Lucie’s light. Even when Lu had dark moments, Toma helped in his own way.

I only wish the ending was longer 🤣😭 like I needed more of them. More experiences and more moments. It wasn’t too rushed, per se. I just felt like I could take a few more chapters lol. Especially with Toma’s therapy! I’d love to see him grow more comfortable with himself again.

Overall, 4.5 ⭐️ & 2 🌶️ !

Thank you so much to CJ and team for an advanced copy of Hateful Secrets!

I have been so excited and curious about Lucie since she since first appeared in Hateful Vows, omgg and I loved her in this!

Lucie has always felt like a bit of an outsider, and has wanted to part ways with the mafia, and she was also very lonely, too. Ms Lucci done a great job portraying Lucie's character and her loneliness, though she isn't really alone, not with Toma lurking in the shadows.

Lucie and Toma were a lot of fun together, there were parts that I did feel were abit rushed, and just would have liked to have seen more tension and chemistry build, as it very much was on sight obsession and lust, but when they were together, I couldn't help but root for them.

This was also in my opinion, a tad darker than Hateful Vows, just with what went down.

It was so, so good seeing Dante, Alexei and Irina again, omgg, my actual favesss!!

I can't wait for what CJ Lucci has next!

Pre-read September 2025: giddy is a freaking understatement for how excited I am for Lucie’s book, omgg!!

I would like to sincerely thank C.J. Lucci for allowing me to read this advance copy of the book. This was my first time reading her work, and overall it was an intense and interesting experience.

Although the book is short, it feels dense due to the number of events that take place throughout the story. A lot happens in a short amount of time, which makes the reading emotionally heavy. The story of Lucie and Toma is a true emotional roller coaster, especially from his perspective, considering everything he had to endure. He is a character deeply marked by pain and trauma, and Lucie serves as a grounding presence that helps keep him steady within his reality.

The book addresses heavy themes related to abuse. The author provides a content warning at the beginning for a chapter that explicitly deals with sexual assault, and it is a very difficult section to read. Personally, I skimmed through that chapter, as it is a topic I find hard to engage with. Even so, it is a painful part of the story that leaves a strong emotional impact.
I particularly appreciated Lucie as a protagonist. She is a strong character whose personality and inner strength develop progressively throughout the story. Her growth is not solely shaped by Toma’s influence, but by her own personal evolution.

One aspect I found notable is that while the book includes a stalker element, it does not revolve entirely around it. Unlike other books within the genre where this trope can feel excessively unsettling, here it remains within what I would consider typical boundaries for a dark romance with mafia elements, without becoming uncomfortable or overdone.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. Despite its heavy themes, it offers a well-earned happy ending. The level of explicit romance is well balanced and complements the story without overpowering the plot.

Once again, I would like to thank C.J. Lucci for the opportunity to read this advance copy. It was an intense read, but ultimately a worthwhile one.

Yep it’s another book by CJ Lucci that I absolutely loved! I read Hateful Vows last year and it became a new favorite mafia romance for me. Then I saw that Lucie was getting her own book and I was beyond excited. A plus sized FMC with an obsessed stalker who wears a mask, has a mustache & rides a motorcycle? Say less babe.
I loved this for both the same and different reasons. The writing like always is just *chef’s kiss*. It flows well, it has great pacing, and just the way she writes her characters ugh it always immediately hooks me.
Hateful Vows had this edge to it probably thanks to the forbidden aspect of the relationships but with Hateful Secrets there was this softness, this gentleness, this warmth. And I have quickly discovered that CJ Lucci writes both very well. These two MCs both have trauma (the MMC unfortunately has more trauma added into his box) and they are both empathetic and supportive towards each other especially during hard days.
If you love a considerate stalker who fills up your fridge, cleans your home, stocks you up on tampons/pads/chocolate because your period is coming soon, leaves you flowers and notes or if you love a man who is devoted to you and only you and loves to show it by oh I don’t know reading your monster romances and then gifting you a silicone tentacle that you can strap on his thigh and ride? Toma is your man. He’s certainly in my arsenal of favorite men now too. I love him and Lucie so damn much.

This mafia dark romance is a fast, addictive read packed with suspense, yearning, and serious spice. The slow burn is delicious before exploding halfway through 🥵 It’s toxic, obsessive, protective stalker energy done right. I’m 100% here for it! The chemistry is feral, the tension is sharp, and yes… read the trigger warnings and the first book in the duet for maximum impact. (Take it from me it’s a must or you’ll be a little lost with all the characters at the beginning.)

Toma Kovuc, a Croatian hacker, has only ever had eyes for Lucie Ventura and when he says only, he means it. Man waited for her. Followed her to Edinburgh. Cleared out her apartment building. Quietly protected her from the shadows. Devotion? Absolutely unhinged but in the best possible way. The pacing is smooth, the spice is 🥵🫠, and the mafia stakes add danger without stealing the spotlight from the romance. Dark, obsessive, and completely addictive.
Don’t pass up adding this book to your TBR!

Lucie + Toma.

Hateful Secrets follows Lucie to Edinburgh. Well.. the reader isn't the only one who follows her.. Toma does too.

Toma has been following/looking after Lucie for a long time and he has an unhealthy obsession with her. But I find it comforting knowing our FMC has a man like Toma. He sacrifices himself for her. & in the end Lucie heals Toma just like Toma healed Lucie.

Please bare in mind the TW before diving in. There are some heavy themes.

Thank you to the author for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Hateful Secrets is a dark, gripping mafia romance filled with obsession, danger, and emotional depth. Lucie is a strong, layered FMC, and Toma is intensely protective, morally gray, and impossible to resist. Their chemistry is undeniable, the tension stays high, and the story balances heat with heart beautifully.

A must-read for dark romance lovers who enjoy high stakes and complex characters.

I absolutely loved this book. After reading the first book, I came into this story already very curious about Lucie, and the author did such a wonderful job bringing her character to life. The dynamic between the characters was a highlight for me, and I really appreciated the way each of them grew individually over the course of the story. Lucie, in particular, stood out—her character was written as genuinely confident and badass, without falling into the overdone trope of the “snobby” or unnecessarily rude confident female lead. Her self-assurance felt authentic and refreshing.

Overall, this was a beautifully paced and emotionally satisfying read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Also... best part? This tiny sassy beautiful angel of a woman calls that huge bulky mountain of a man piccolo

This book left me devastated, but I still devoured every second of it. Toma was the sweetest yet ruthless Croatian tracker and hacker. He was the beast for everyone but her, Lucie Ventura.

Lucie is Dante's cousin, whom he arranged for him to marry Aleksei. Though she appears very sunny, she hides scars and pain that no one has ever seen. When Toma, the Croatian tracker and hacker, gets obsessed with her, she doesn't fear him but feels alive and desired.

Toma was completely gone for Lucie from the start, and reading about how he protects, cares for, and loves her from afar was so much fun.

Their story was filled with love, war, suspense, drama, and pain, but they both emerged stronger.

The spice in this book just hit differently; it never felt like lust between these two. I loved the bond the MCs shared; it was complicated but beautiful in its own unique way. Their chemistry was comforting and sweet. I enjoyed reading chapters with them together.

Ms Biscuit was the perfect addition to their family. I loved our tiny but fierce fur baby.

Some chapters were harder to sit with than others, and while I understood why they were important for the plot, they still didn't soften the impact. The mafia world is always a tangled mess, and this book was full of it. You always have to be prepared for the worst, yet it often comes out of the blue, leaving a scar in your heart that reminds you of the book for years, and this book had that effect. Oh, I cried so much out of pain for the characters.

Loved how strong and sassy Lucie was. Everyone often underestimated her as just a sunshine mafia princes, but she was a tigress, and I loved every second of it.

C.J dealt with several serious subjects with utmost care and understanding. I loved how the importance of therapy was highlighted.

Loved how Toma and Lucie communicated their issues and lives. Two mature characters communicating is always uplifting for me.

The ending couldn't have been better. I cried a little towards the end, but they were happy tears.

Toma and Lucie deserve all the love, and I will always shower them with it.

This book is high on emotion, love, and a strong family motto.

Devoured it.

If you have read hateful vows you will be fully aware of who our FMC and MMC of this book is. Lucie Ventura is the cousin of Dante and ex-wife to Aleksei who is also her cousin Dante and his wife’s Irina (who is also Aleksei’s step sister) partner. If that isn’t clear Dante, Irina and Aleksei and are throuple, and that means that Lucie is free to life her life far from the mafia life and the first item on her list is to attend college to get her degree.

Our MMC Toma Kovuč is a Croatian hacker who has been obsessed with Lucie since the day he laid eyes on her and if Lucie is going to Edinburgh to pursue her new life then that means Toma is also going with her. Toma is also on the run from his brother Petar because honestly he wants nothing to do with him nor what he stands for.

The chemistry between these two is unmatched and the slow burn between them is impeccable. In Toma’s eyes there has been no one else but Lucie - and when he says no one else he means it, he in fact waited for her! If that’s not devotion I don’t know what is. Toma keeps an eye on Lucie from a far ensuring that any danger never touches her. When she moves to Edinburgh, he in facts clears the residents from her apartment block while also securing a place that is very near her. Look a man needs to be close to the love of his life in case she needs him so understandable 👀

When Toma is done with keeping his distance nothing will stop him from claiming his woman. Lucie is quite aware that she has a watcher and to be fair she had an inkling of who this person may have been - in other words she’s definitely not a woman you’d underestimate that’s for sure.

I was proud of Lucie for wanting to get away from all things Mafia wise. She wanted to make her life her own, to build genuine friendships and relationships with people and she seemed to settle quite while in the university. She also wanted prevent losing anyone else she cared about just like her parents. I am very curious about her friend Mina and whether we will get her story in the near future.

I would definitely recommend checking the TWs the author has left in the beginning of this book as it does dive into some dark elements.

Thank you to the author who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭

Hateful Secrets is the second book in the Hateful duet and it takes the story to a much darker and more emotional level. This book is heavy, intense, and full of secrets that hurt deeply.
Lucie is trying to start a new life away from the mafia world, but darkness does not leave that easily. Toma is the shadow that follows, protects, and loves in the only way he knows how, he even stalking her just to make sure she is safe. Their connection is intense, dangerous, and deeply emotional.
The chemistry between Lucie and Toma was insanely good. Every interaction felt intense, emotional, and charged. Their connection was not just physical but deeply emotional and raw.
Toma’s entire story completely broke me. His past, his present, the trauma he carries, the pain he survives, and still choosing to protect Lucie made me cry so much. He truly believes he is a monster who does not deserve love, and reading his journey shattered my heart.
Lucie is such a beautifully written character. She is soft but strong, broken yet brave. I loved how she slowly accepts her darkness instead of hiding behind a fake sunshine personality.
The side characters were amazing as well. Every single one of them had an important role and added so much depth to the story. No character felt unnecessary or wasted. This book hurt, healed, and stayed with me long after I finished reading. I am definitely going to read more books by this author because this story left a strong impact on me.

Hateful Secrets by C.J. Lucci

Lucie has grown up in the mafia world and wants a fresh start. She's decided that she wants to go to school and study psychology. She wants a clean break from the mafia, but she should've known better. Her next-door neighbors are her body guards. But she can't help but feel like someone else is keeping an eye on her.

Toma had a rough upbringing. His dad and brother have done unspeakable things to him and made him into The Beast. He breaks away from his brother and finds himself helping Lucie's family. He has never allowed himself to love anyone for fear of what his brother would do to them, but he can't help it with Lucie. She is his everything. So he follows her to school and everywhere else she goes. There is nothing he doesn't know about her. He is a man obsessed.

Trouble makes it's way to them, and Toma reveals himself to Lucie in order to keep her safe. They fall in love and settle into a routine. That gets spectacularly blown to bits by his brother, secrets they keep from each other, and even her family's secrets. Will their love remain strong enough for them to survive?

Please be sure to read the trigger warnings! It was necessary for the plot, but I'm not going to lie... the 3rd act break-up is brutal, as well as the torture that Toma endures. I've never needed two people to have a HEA like Lucie and Toma. I'm really glad they got theirs. 😊

I received an ARC of this book, but these opinions are my own. I would like to thank the author, C.J. Lucci, for allowing me the privilege of reading her work. ❤️

How I consumed it: e-book
Length: 264 pages
Rating: 3.5 star
FMC: Lucie Ventura
MMC: Toma Kovac

My Thoughts: This was a mafia romance, in an interconnected stand alone. It has lots of trigger warnings and is a bit slow burn, but the story was pretty good.

A bit about the book: The book follows a mafia princess Lucie Ventura that no longer wanted to be connected to her family’s rule and wanted to go off to school to try and put her past behind her.

Toma was a cyber security specialist that had been helping with the Ventura’s family problems. The moment he spotted sweet Lucie he fell in love. He vowed to do anything he could to keep her safe and show her all the love she so desperately wanted but didn’t think she should have. He followed her away to school just to make sure she was protected. The only problem was that his brother The Butcher was after him and the only way to get him to come back home to fulfil his duty as The Beast was to threaten Lucie. The only person he had ever cared about.

Tropes:
- Mafia
- Virgin MMC
- Pierced MMC
- Stalker
- Masked Man

Quotes:

“Petar may be The Butcher of the Balkans, but he made me The Beast. I trained harder than him. I killed with my body while he used his tools at his disposal. I’m underfed and weaker than I used to be, but he’s too full of himself to see that we are no match. He has nothing to fight for while I have a revenge to enact. We couldn’t be more different.”

Plotwise this was okay. I liked reading about Lucie and Toma, but I’d have preferred it if there was more character exposition. They read a bit flat.

Now, I did read an ARC so these issues might already have been fixed before publication, but there was a significant amount of typos and weird sentence structures. More than I usually see while reading this author’s ARCs. I know English isn’t her native language, but I do hope she has a native speaker available among her Alpha/Beta readers who will catch these things.

There were also a number of inconsistencies. Which weren’t great.

All in all, I just wish this was a little less insta-lovey. I guess the plot could have used some excitement and the characters some more depth. And I hope part of my gripes with this will have been fixed in the published book. I guess the people who read that final version will have to find that out.

This a was a quick and spicy dark mafia stalker romance, just as described.
Lucie just divorced the head of the Russian mafia in London that her cousin, the head of the London Italian mafia, forced her to marry 6 months ago. Now she wants nothing to do with the mafia as she heads to Scotland to start university. When she gets there she finds herself drawn to the man who is supposed to be protecting her but his obsession has turned into full blown stalking. Toma has tried to leave his brutal life as the Beast, henchman for the Croatian mafia, behind. His whole world now is Lucie and the mafia’s mission to keep her safe and his to make her his own.
The only real problem here is that I am not a huge fan of the darker elements of the story. The relationship that develops between Lucie and Tomas is a sweet slow burn. I mean as sweet as it can be when he is a brutal killer that invades every part of her life to protect her. Personally the darkest places this book goes are not things I enjoy reading but I know fans of dark romance and mafia stories are quite used to them. There are very brutal depictions of forced sex and torture.
So while this book was just okay for me, I am sure it will be a really enjoyable story for readers who are bigger fans of the genre.

I was honored to be chosen as an ARC reader for Hateful Secrets by C.J. Lucci, and this book did not disappoint.

From the very first chapter, I was pulled into a story layered with tension, emotion, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. The chemistry between the characters is intense and complicated in the best way, and the emotional push-and-pull kept me turning pages long past when I should’ve stopped. Lucci does an incredible job of balancing angst with vulnerability, making every interaction feel purposeful and charged.

The plot unfolds at just the right pace, revealing truths slowly enough to keep you guessing but fast enough to keep you hooked. I loved how messy and human the characters felt—flawed, guarded, and shaped by their pasts in ways that made their choices feel real.

The reason this lands at 4.5 stars instead of a full five is purely personal preference, but make no mistake—this story left an impression and absolutely delivered.

If you love emotionally driven romance, buried secrets, and characters that make you feel everything, Hateful Secrets is one you won’t want to miss.

Thank you to C.J. Lucci for the opportunity to read and review this ARC 💫

Toma & Lucie’s chemistry is blazing. Their dynamic is so raw and intense that their energy just draws you in.
Both coming from mafia underworlds, their upbringings have shaped who they are and who they are expected to be.

When Lucie decides she needs a change of pace, don’t think for one second Toma, ever the overprotective hacker will be far behind.
What starts off as cute stalking behaviour and showing Lucie what it means to be cared for, when they stop hiding behind masks, they truly accept each other. They see through their facades.
Toma knows Lucie better than she knows herself, and if Lucie is threatened he will walk through fire for her. He is so ready to die for his love. But is he prepared to live? To heal?

Hateful Secrets is a fast read. If you love Mafia underworlds, found family vibes, touch her & die with a touch of primal play, this one is for you.

This book can be read as a standalone, though it is suggested to start with book 1, Hateful Vows, as the characters and world building is interconnected.

Review: Hateful Secrets by C.J. Lucci

A delicious slow burn that takes its sweet time peeling back layers of past trauma and not in a neat, wrapped up with a bow way. These characters aren’t just haunted by their pasts, they’re actively living with the fallout, and it shows in every messy, human moment.

The stalking element is chef’s kiss because it comes from protection, not possession. Instead of running scared, the FMC feels safe even when the protector in question is a mysterious man in a helmet. And honestly? The vibes work.

Now let’s talk spice… because when it hits? PHEW 🥵 Someone fetch the ice bath. The gift giving scene absolutely scratches that monster loving itch in the best way possible. 😉

Post plot twist, I was fully locked in. Lucci doesn’t gloss over the aftermath she digs into it. The therapy scenes feel raw, real, and genuinely heartfelt, which makes the HEA hit harder and feel earned. No sweeping trauma under the rug here just growth, healing, and a satisfyingly realistic payoff.

Sexy, emotional, and surprisingly grounded. Consider me impressed. 📖🔥

How can a man covered in red flags feel like a green flag made for his girl?! Ask CJ Lucci and she'll give you Toma Kovač 😏

I had a little bit of trouble connecting with these characters, but once I did, I had a good time with this book. Stalker romance may not be my favorite brand of dark romance, but that's not the book's fault, obviously. Toma was a cute stalker, though 😉
Lucie was such a fierce FMC, I love how dedicated she was to her ambitions.

One of the things I love about CJ's writing is that even though she puts her characters Through. The. Wringer... (not literally, but never say never with her...👀), she then also gives them therapy to overcome their trauma. And the way she writes the lasting effects of said trauma is just so good.

It was also great to see our Hateful Vows trio again, and even some of the Moretti gang. I'm so ready to see where the final Moretti Chronicles will take us!

I had the pleasure of receiving this as an e-ARC will voluntarily be giving my honest review. I absolutely devoured this book. It was an emotional roller coaster and the spice was spicing🥵🥵. The chemistry between the MMC & FMC was just phenomenal!! This was filled with off your chair suspense, emotions, love and war but the family values were there!! Can’t wait to read more!!

“Hateful Secrets can be read as a stand-alone. For full enjoyment, it is recommended to read Hateful Vows first. Hateful Secrets is a stalker mafia romance on the light side of the dark romance spectrum, featuring a strong FMC and a golden retriever of a stalker who would do anything for his woman. Guaranteed HEA.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (4.5/5)

Hateful Secrets by C.J. Lucci was intense, emotional, and impossible to put down. From the very first chapter, this story pulled me into a dark, angsty world filled with secrets, tension, and characters that feel deeply human—flawed, guarded, and raw in the best way.

The chemistry between the MCs was electric, layered with pain, resentment, and undeniable attraction. I loved how the author slowly peeled back the layers of their pasts, letting the truth unravel at just the right pace. The angst hit hard, the emotions ran deep, and the stakes always felt high, which kept me fully invested from start to finish.

The reason for the half-star deduction comes down to one small detail: the reference to the MMC as Hades. Since this wasn’t a retelling, it felt a bit out of place for me, and I found myself wishing a different descriptor had been used instead. It didn’t ruin the story, but it did pull me out of the moment a few times.

That said, Hateful Secrets is still a powerful, gripping read that delivers on emotion, tension, and storytelling. C.J. Lucci knows how to write characters that stick with you long after the final page, and I’ll absolutely be picking up more from this author. Highly recommended for readers who love dark romance with depth and heart. 💔🔥📖

Hateful Secrets is an emotional, high-stakes journey that serves as a beautiful conclusion to the Hateful duet. As a second book in the duet, it builds perfectly on the foundations of the first book. I suggest reading them in order to get the full experience of this world, and as always, keep the trigger warnings in mind.

The heart of this story is Lucie, a plus-size mafia princess who is desperate for autonomy after a life of being told who to be. Her character arc is handled with such care. She is reflective and cautious, and her strength is the quiet, internal kind that feels incredibly relatable. When she moves to Edinburgh, she isn't looking for trouble, but she finds Toma.
Toma is a fascinating MMC. He is a masked, obsessive stalker, yet he carries the golden retriever stalker energy because his devotion is about being a shield rather than a cage. The way he loves and cares for Lucie from a distance is both intense and sweet. Their bond is complicated but beautiful, and their chemistry provides a sense of comfort even during the suspenseful and painful moments of the plot. The growth they both achieve while emerging from the shadows of war and drama is truly inspiring. This story is a testament to finding where you belong.
Thank you to the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I’ve read by this author. It ended up being a really enjoyable read for me. I liked Lucie right away who is a plus-size mafia princess who’s trying to escape her past and wants a life that’s actually hers. I loved that her focus was on her independence and finding herself, not just jumping into another relationship.

Toma is dark, quiet, broody and very much obsessed but more in a protective, slightly unhinged way. The stalker vibes are there, but it felt more intense and devoted than scary. I liked the slow burn between them, it gave the tension time to build and made their connection feel realistic.

Overall, this had good mix of tension, danger, suspense, emotional moments and a romance that actually builds. If you like mafia romance with protective MMCs, light stalker vibes and character growth, this one’s worth reading.

📚 4/5 - 🌶 3/5 - 💧2/0 - 🗡 3/5

How can a man raised/made to be a monster be so sweet and caring?! I loved his obsession with Lucie, there is NOTHING that will stop him from keeping her safe, fed and healthy, even himself.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Their story was a really fun read, I'll be reading more of C.J.'s this year.

Toma. My big, tortured soul virgin MMC. Sir… where exactly did you learn to do ALL THAT?! Because it sure as hell didn’t take him long to figure out how to make Lucie absolutely lose her damn mind. Woo. Woo. Woo.

And once you peel back the chaos? Their connection is straight up undeniable. These two have both done unspeakable things…things that come from being associated with the mafia, yet somehow they’re painfully endearing in the most deliciously f’d up way. Toma out here being the sweetest unhinged stalker…stocking her fridge, buying her pads like a menace with manners, leaving notes and texts reminding her to eat and go to bed. And Lucie trying to escape the mafia life, just straight up embraces her masked stalker. Completely deranged. Completely obsessed. Completely perfect.

Check. Your. Trigger. Warnings. 🚩

I say this as someone who thrives on triggers…this still had me clutching my chest, absolutely wrecked, sobbing like I didn’t sign up for emotional devastation. This does not play nice. It’s brutal, raw, and unapologetic. Definitely not for the faint of heart… if you can survive it, it does end with a HEA.

First book of the year!!!!

Lucie and Toma’s story was so good. His obsession, she hiding her sadness. They were perfect for each other. They complemented each other and were the support the other one needed. I suffered with Toma and how strong he was, doing everything for the love of his life.

This was my first book from this author and it was pretty good. I do think it would be wise to read the first book in this series as the FMC spends a good portion of time reflecting on things that occurred in that book.

I like the MMC’s character mainly because I love an alpha, bad boy, obsessed stalker type in my books and he was alll that. I mean the man even reads what she reads so he can give her everything she wants! Swoony? Yes! Oh and he rides a motorcycle.

The FMC I didn’t really jive with. She just wasn’t my cup of tea. This is a mafia romance and a lot of her story just wouldn’t really be plausible in that world. The supporting characters were actually some of my favorites as there was a wide mix of personalities.

Overall though the writing style was well done and made for an easy, fast paced read. There was some good banter and funny moments as well as some tragic heart felt moments. I was gifted this story and am very grateful for the opportunity to read it!
