I craft joy-infused magic for a living, but my new vampire husband rules a kingdom that’s forgotten how to smile.
When my grandmother arranges my marriage to the vampire king to form a treaty, I expect a political alliance with a brooding stranger. I do not expect to marry Kieran, the man who kissed me breathless at a magical festival six years ago, then vanished without a trace.
Now he’s all formality and frowns, ruling a kingdom full of vampires who make funeral directors look festive. And while his court thinks I’ve bewitched him, the truth is far more complex. We might still have feelings for each other…
Then his advisors announce that we have thirty days to convince the court our marriage is real, or the fragile alliance between our people will shatter.
I should guard my heart. But when Kieran’s careful control slips and my magic flares under his touch, I start to suspect the real magic isn’t in my enchantments. Maybe there’s more to my vampire husband than meets the fang.
You May Now Bite the Bride is Book one in the Witchfully Wed Series, and is told in dual point of view. Expect a cozy fantasy world, spice, yearning, quirky side characters, a touch-her-and-die hero, a sweet yet strong FMC, a drake companion who can’t control his fire, a diva ghost, on-the-page heat, and a HEA.
AVA ROSS fell for men with unusual features when she first watched Star Wars, where alien creatures have gone mainstream. She lives in New England with her husband (who is sadly not an alien, though he is still cute in his own way), her kids, and assorted pets, including a yorkie pup and three cats.
I’m finally satisfied with a romance after such a drought of reading smut marketed as romance. When the spicy happened, it was actual love making, not just a lust fuck as it is so often in books.
They actually got to know each other and we got to see them navigate their marriage. Kieran was so sweet to find out her preferences and picking up trinkets throughout the years in case they met again. Kieran made me swoon.
I appreciate that the Cyrene wasn’t a jerk despite being hurt by the Kieran in the past. She went for understanding which makes sense. I was worried she’d spend half the book giving him a hard time. I love that there was no 3rd act break up or separation.
I’d recommend this to someone who wants to read a romance with a couple who falls in love, not lust.

I loved Kieran and Cyrene. Boy did they have their work cut out for them. They worked so hard to overcome all the people that were trying to break them apart. I can’t wait to read the next one.
Oh does Kieran yearn! This is a very slow burn however the banter and storyline flows so beautifully. There were so many times I found myself smiling at the book as I read. I can’t wait to read the next one! I love a meddling (or as she says facilitating) grandmother.
I am not sure how this book is so highly rated. By the time I was 34% of the way into this story, it was still not flowing well. While the premise was interesting, the execution itself was clumsy.
They met 6 years ago and have an instant connection, then he disappears only for them to miraculously come back together for their arranged marriage. Upon Cyrene seeing him at the altar, she is shocked & angry. They’re not getting off on the best foot. The night that follows is no better. Then the very next day they’re pretty instantly becoming friendlier…after one walk in a garden, when Cyrene is finally informed of the need to make their union appear legitimate. Yet they have not truly addressed what happened 6 years ago, they started to speak of it and then abruptly stopped. Cyrene then decides to kiss Kieran to add legitimacy to this marriage and then that is all they talk about for an interminable amount of time.
But it is all expressed in such a fragmented way. What is the rush? Take the time to include details so that the story flows naturally. It seems as if so many authors are in such a hurry to get to finish they neglect the journey to get there. There is no introduction to this world, no world-building. The reader is merely dropped in and expected to follow along with no understanding of the characters, what being a witch or a vampire means in this world, the rules or protocols of this world are not explained.
Then there is the time jumping. One moment you are reading about Cyrene and Kieran attending a gathering, dancing, then they have that night together, which then leads to the next morning where Kieran is making breakfast for Cyrene again. Then as the story is continuing, suddenly what seemed a continuation of that same day is revealed to be a few days later. It’s discombobulating and clunky writing. The story shifts too abruptly, suddenly mentioning blood runes and the targeting of Cyrene…shifting focus without any segue. The twist and revelation towards the end? Anticlimactic. This book fell flat in its entirety.
❤️ “Mine. As I am completely yours.” ~~~ Cyrene is absolutely wonderful! She’s kind, sweet and compassionate. I loved her sunshiny personality and the fact that she was a joy witch. Even more, I loved her strength, fierceness and defiance. Cyrene is amazing and I loved her so, so much!
And then, there’s Kieran! The vampire king is brooding, serious and composed. But there’s more to him than meets the eye. Because underneath his stoic facade is a lonely, but kind, caring, thoughtful and fiercely protective male. He just needs a bit of joy in his life… Kieran is so charming and wonderful and I couldn’t help but adore every single thing about him!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Cyrene and Kieran! Six years ago Cyrene spent three unforgettable days with a charming wizard, but then he disappeared. Now, she’s arranged to be married and on her wedding day, she discovers that the wizard she’s missed for such a long time is no wizard at all, but a vampire king. I loved Cyrene and Kieran together! Their chemistry was fantastic and I loved every moment they spent together. I loved all the tension, the banters and the bickering. Even more, I loved how the joy witch turned Kieran’s life and kingdom upside down. She brought joy where it was most needed. And Kieran… everything he did for Cyrene was absolutely wonderful. They tried hard to find the undeniable attraction, but when they finally gave in, the passionate moments they shared were so hot. Cyrene and Kieran were absolutely perfect for each other, and after everything they went through, they more than deserved to find happiness and love together!
In addition, the storyline was fantastic! There's danger and horrible things happening in Shadowborne castle and no one is safe. Even more, I couldn’t help but absolutely adore Quandary - Cyrene’s fierce drake companion, Cordelia - the sassy ghost haunting Shadowborne castle, and, of course, Elizabeth - the powerful witch who made sure the magic in the realm had a chance to be saved, even in an unconventional way. With everything happening, I was glued to the pages till the very end.
Overall, You May Now Bite the Bride is a fantastic start of the series! It’s filled with danger, suspense, action, betrayal, humor, drama, twists, passion and wonderful characters.
I loved it and I cannot wait to see who grandma Elizabeth will match next!
This is a cozy fantasy romance that knows exactly what it wants to be and never pretends to be more than that.
If I had to sum this story up in one sentence, it would be: "Where light seeps into darkness until it’s no longer threatening, just a faint shadow."
This is a classic grumpy/sunshine setup, taken to its literal extreme. A brooding vampire king ruling a gloomy, joyless kingdom marries a radiant, warm, joy-infused witch and yes, she absolutely rocks his world. Emotionally, magically, socially… even architecturally. The castle, the atmosphere, and the people around him all slowly shift under her influence.
The premise is fun and comforting: an arranged marriage for political reasons, a shared past they both carry quietly, and a "prove this marriage is real in 30 days or everything falls apart" trope that does exactly what you expect it to do. It’s predictable, but intentionally so.
The FMC is sweet but not weak, glowing with optimism and kindness without being naive. The MMC is Mr. Grumpy in his full glory: formal, controlled, emotionally repressed, and absolutely doomed from the start. Watching him soften, care, and fall hard is the main pleasure of the book.
The cozy fantasy elements are charming: quirky side characters, a fire obsessed drake companion, a diva ghost, and a generally whimsical tone that keeps everything light even when stakes are mentioned. The romance is gentle, a little spicy, very safe, and ends exactly where you expect, happily.
That said, this is not a book that surprises. The emotional beats are familiar, the arc is straightforward, and the transformation is visible from miles away. But sometimes that’s precisely the point. This is the kind of book you pick up to relax your brain, smile a little, and enjoy a soft landing.
Overall, thi is a pleasant, cozy, feel good fantasy romance. Predictable, yes, but also warm, comforting, and easy to enjoy.
I read this on a whim not having much hope because the vampire romances haven't been keeping my attention for a while but this turned out to be better than I expected!
Cyrene is a joy witch but has recently been a more sad than joyful. This is mainly due to the fact that 6 years ago she encountered a vampire at a festival whom, after plentiful conversation and a kiss, she never saw him again. Kieren is the vampire Cyrene met and he equally has never forgotten the night the two of them spent together. He had his reason to leave abruptly but when the vampires and witches decide there needs to be a marriage alliance and he learns the woman is Cyrene, he is immediately on board to marry her. After an electric wedding ceremony, Cyrene moves in with Kieran and the two begin to work out their grievances while finding their way to a deeper love.
I want to start by saying the chemistry between Kieran and Cyrene was so sweet but also sizzling. Kieran was the definition of yearn. He worshipped Cyrene in everything and was her support system while she was surrounded by family that did not want to welcome her because it was not traditional. Kieran loved the girl down and all the moments we got to see between them had me in a puddle of swoon. I really liked that Cyrene approached it all like an adult and was never whiny. The magic of a joy witch was quite delightful especially when she as around Kieran.
Ava Ross is a new to me author and I was put onto this series because KU recommended a different book to start with but I'm really glad I started at Book 1 and can't wait to continue. If you're looking for a mix of cozy and cute but spicy with paranormal elements, this is a good one.
Remember when vampires used to mean something? Stephanie Meyer you will pay for your crimes of domestication.
The premise of this book was enticing; however, I was quickly let down. Let down by the pacing, the world-building, the plot issues and more. Why are we introducing a plot conflict at 72%?
We’re dropped unceremoniously in this world of magic with no explanations. What is joy magic? All she does is make lanterns all day. The vampire king also has magic, but we find that out over halfway through the book. Apparently, their marriage bond is a physical bond, again, we don’t find this out until over halfway.
Aside from those issues, we also have issues with the pacing of the relationship and important conversations. Kieran does not explain his reason for disappearing six years earlier until a week or more into the relationship- why couldn’t this have been covered at the wedding or reception? He’s drinking blood from her neck at breakfast one day, then never does it again? Making out in public after he mentioned it, only to be ostracized by the court, and surprise- to never do it again? It’s weird and clunky.
This could use some heavy edits. There’s potential here but not as it currently stands. And I can’t even bother to get into the ghost and familiar companion issues.
Wow! A vampire king and his witch—what a captivating combination. I really enjoyed the title and the story. The way the author showed how two seemingly opposing forces could come together to create something truly magical was beautifully done. And at the heart of it all is love. I'm so happy that the MMC has found his true self. His wife, the FMC, genuinely lights up his world with her love.
I adored her sidekick, the singing plants and cups, and the magic joy she brings with her powers. The meddling ghost showing up at just the right moments added a fun twist. I was genuinely surprised when she revealed her true self.
I can't wait to see what happens next in the series!
What a lovely surprise this book was! I love vampire romance and this one was great.. fast paced because they're married by the second chapter lol
I love how they didn't fight the attraction and love they still shared after 6 years. Sure it was a rocky start but it didn't last long, which I found refreshing.
She wanted to prove herself to the kingdom so she worked hard on her magic and making the castle better, he just wanted her by his side no matter what and would do anything for her. She made him better, whole in the sweetest way.
There was a little mystery as well which was a nice touch to the plot!
This was such a great series opener with a strong heroine and a swoony hero. Cyrene is really cool - she's a joy witch and she just seems to glow with love. Kieran is a vampire king and rather stoic, but he hides a deep well of feelings. They may be in an arranged marriage, but they're so well suited it makes the heart happy :) There's a lot going on in this one, from singing plants and a cool side kick to a meddling ghost. Really, this is a wonderful read with heart and heat. So good and I'm looking forward to the next book :D
✔️dual pov ✔️spice ✔️second chance slow burn ✔️only you
There was so much unnecessary stuff in this book. Her dragon familiar interrupting them always was beyond annoying, the ghost, the dance???? I literally LOLed when they said they needed to perform a dance to prove their bond like wtf I'm sorry. Them both not having convo about wtf happened 6 years ago until like halfway into damn book and him not just telling her after wedding??? When they were finallyyyyy together they were cutestttttt and loved them but this book was a hot mess.
Kieran is a vampire who met Cyrene at a festival 6 years ago but disappeared. She has been sad ever since and she is a joy witch. Her grandmother does a spell to look for her true mate and it happens to be a vampire king. The same one she met at the festival who told her he was a warlock. She definitely has some big obstacles to overcome after marrying him and moving into his castle and having to deal with his council members and family. Plus who is stealing her magic and hurting servants? Fantastic story! I'm excited for more!
What a delightful romance that I’m kicking myself for taking so long to finish. For some reason I thought it was going to be a stuffy old regency romance. I knew it was an Ava Ross romance so I should have known better! Cyrene and Kieran were absolutely adorable. She was hilarious, full of light and laughter while he was kind of dark and stodgy. But, their romance gave me all the feels and it was well worth the read. I loved it and am looking forward to the next book.
A brand-new series by Ava!!!! The premise is the borders are failing and it is up to Elizebeth to strengthen them - she decided that only love can fix the problem, so she decides to marry 4 granddaughters to different "monsters" thus setting up the series. This story features Cyrene, a witch whose magic is joy and a very stoic vampire king - a great read as they once again connect, having had a short relationship 6 years prior. Love the secondary characters!!!
You May Now Bite the Bride by Ava Ross is the first story in the Witchfully Wed series. What do you get from an arranged marriage between a vampire king and a joy witch? Such a fun read with its cozy vibes, strong heroine, and a swoony hero. Of course, the side characters are also a delight! Cyrene is lovely, sweet, and so fierce! Kieran is composed and stoic but still feels so deeply. Together, they are pure magic! Another must read from Ava Ross.
✨Vampire King x Witch ✨Grumpy x Sunshine ✨Arranged marriage ✨ “Mine” ✨Second Chance Romance ✨Joy infused magic ✨Only one bed ✨Cute animal sidekick ✨Sassy ghost 👻
A cozy and cute fantasy. This book is like the perfect rainy afternoon on the couch with a warm cup of tea. Loved the second chance feel and Kieran’s possession and yearning. Plus, you just gotta love a meddling match maker grandma lol
I love Ava Ross books. Pretty light, fun, spicy, romantic, humorous reads. This book has all of that, with a bit more depth. Whether intended to seem that way, or just my perception, Ross’s writing has continually gotten better and definitely showed in Witchfully Wed Book 1. I thoroughly enjoyed the development of their romance, plot, no 3rd act breakup.
Book one of an exciting new series by Ava Ross. Witch Elizabeth figures the only way to strengthen the borders of the fantasy realm is the marry off her four granddaughters to monsters. She'll start with Cyrene by matching her to a Vampire Prince. They have met six years ago and it didn't go well. Good second chance monster romance.
Cyrene and Kieran. Wow! I don't think Ava Ross can write a bad book! You May Now Bite The Bride has it all...romance, intrigue and beauty. The characters are first rate. The storyline gripping. I loved it. I loved the conclusion. Great start to what feels like a great series. Btw I adore Elizabeth! 5 stars!
This was everything you could want/ need in a romance. This is another amazing read by Ava, the first book in the Witchfully Wed series is absolutely addictive and a page turner from the get go. Two hearts that have always belonged together. Thankfully there is a meddlesome fairy god mother🤣 to assist in bringing these awesome characters to life. 💜🔥
I felt like she made all the moves in their relationship. Drink from my neck in front of your court. I'll kiss you passionately for show in front of your court
Her pet couldn't control his fire and kept accidentally flaming people or property. It reminded me of someone with a badly behaved dog. Not cool.
2.5 stars; interesting premise; reasonably interesting MCs.... the plot just felt rushed and too tidy. Personality quirks and plot points thrown in as if we had a history with them already (makes it feel a bit jarring). The world building was not very deep, but the writing was decent. I do like the idea tho, so i may try book 2 and see how it goes 😊.
A fantastic quick read that has you falling in love with the characters and cheering them on. The world is beautifully magical and the romance is swoon worthy. I can’t wait to continue this series and find out what magical meddling their grandma gets up to.
Cyrene and Kieran I loved it! I always loved vamoires and Kieran is so easy to love, he tries so hard to be distant but their conections is undeneable. Cyrene is such an amazing woman She makes the best of what She gets and She really makes a difrence. Such a great book. I really enjoyed it.
It was delightful to watch these two characters fall back in love after having their paths wrenched apart 6 years ago. This is a quick, lighthearted second chance story.
