Halloween! All Hallow’s Eve, a time for fun costumes, lots of candy, and “Trick or Treating!” Shannon and Jace believe they’re just headed to a great party, one that might stand them well in their aspirations to become attorneys at law. But while most people are hosting costume parties or taking their children to shops or malls or into their neighborhood to enjoy the candy and fun of the holiday, a few decide to twist it into a much different spirit of the season. Because, of course, the ancient origins began in the Celtic world with Samhain when bonfires were lit to drive away the evil spirits in the world, some more powerful than others. Thus, Angela Hawkins and Jackson Crow find themselves in the Chicago area on the same night for the holiday. Situations seem unrelated. Four college girls have disappeared, and because there’s been a string of chatter discovered on the internet that warns of a great power, Samuevil, an ancient puka will demand his due on what was once called Samhain. They’re searching for the college students but will quickly learn they are on a longer trail. Dress up! Head out to the streets. And there they’ll discover a twisted labyrinth of past and present they must unravel . . . And with a bit of last-minute help from a good spirit from the past, they may break the evil of the would-be demon before he demanded his treat . . . In blood.
I’ve read a lot of Heather Graham’s books through the years and it seems her stories are getting cheesier and more fluff than real substance compared with her earlier ones, many of which I really liked. And now she puts exclamation marks on every other sentence! It’s so annoying! I wish she’d stop! Lol, I can’t concentrate on the story because I end up just counting how many are on a page. Anyway, this story was very short, under 50 pages, and as expected, cheesy with little substance and too many “!!!” I give up! I don’t think I’ll get any more of her books because she just doesn’t write like she used to. It’s a shame. 3 stars because it’s a Halloween story with 2 characters I used to really like in her earlier books, even though they weren’t portrayed that well in this one.
Halloween is celebrated by all sorts. Decorations, parties, history, legends abound in this fall holiday. Most people just celebrate the fun part. Some demented minds try to bring evil to life. Can those with goodly hearts save the innocent from the demons? A wonderful page turner for the Halloween season.🎃
A quick read with the Krewe hunters. I listened to the audiobook with a virtual narrator. The narrator was horrible and I probably would have enjoyed the book more if I had read it instead. I do love reading about the true origin of Halloween.
