I love all the short stories in here. Some of them were very creepy compared to others but I enjoyed every story in here. This book had you sucked in from the very beginning.

Can the women be saved?
This book reminded me why I enjoy anthologies so much! The stories in here had me looking around corners and sleeping with the lights on!
Thrills and Chills: A Halloween Anthology is a lively collection that gathers twelve authors — J.B. Arnold, Hayley Bernard-Ryan, Elisa D. Daniels, A.V. Donaldson, Rachel Graham, Mark Jenkins, D.J. Maughan, Brooke Montoya, M.A. Savino, Jessica Lynn Sorensen, Tina S. Transformation, and Keeley Webb — to deliver a wide-ranging sampler of seasonal horror. Each story has its own flavor, and together they capture the many ways Halloween inspires both fright and fun.
Arnold’s The Zahnfee twists childhood folklore into something unsettling and memorable, while Bernard-Ryan’s Motor Yacht Persephone takes the chills out to sea, proving that isolation on the water can be just as terrifying as a haunted house. Daniels’s Haunted Asylum leans into classic, cinematic creepiness, and Donaldson’s Cosworth Manor is a gothic entry full of atmosphere and shadows. Graham’s The House of Rot and Ruin stands out for its grotesque detail and visceral imagery, while Jenkins’s She Came Back balances its scares with an emotional undercurrent about grief and loss.
Maughan’s Trick or Death is a fast-paced, slasher-style romp that feels tailor-made for Halloween night, while Montoya’s Séance channels the thrill (and danger) of meddling with forces beyond control. Savino’s Ornamental makes something as ordinary as seasonal decorations feel menacing, and Sorensen’s Masked Confessions leans into psychological tension and secrets. Transformation’s Wrong House offers a short, sharp shock built around the simple but effective fear of knocking on the wrong door, and Webb’s Little Red Devils embraces the mischief and mayhem of trick-or-treating with a sinister twist.
As with most anthologies, some stories are stronger than others, but the collection’s variety is its strength. From gothic unease to modern slasher energy, from psychological horror to folklore-inspired dread, the range ensures that every reader will find favorites. The length of the stories makes the book easy to dip into — perfect for reading one tale a night through October.
Y’all! This isn’t just another Halloween anthology—it’s twelve doors you should never open. Behind each one waits a different nightmare: hospitals where the dead still walk, clowns whose painted grins hide hungers, dolls that stare too long, and a yacht that sails straight into damnation. Even the friendly glow of jack-o’-lanterns can’t mask the blood spilled in a neighborhood décor contest.
What makes Thrills and Chills unforgettable is the range—twelve authors, twelve unique voices, twelve flavors of fear. Some tales creep in slow and cold, others strike fast with twists like a knife to the gut. It’s campfire storytelling turned savage, psychological terror wrapped in shadows.
If you crave variety, intensity, and enough nightmare fuel to haunt your October, Thrills and Chills is waiting. Just remember: once you step inside, you won’t come out the same. 🎃👻
Oh...my...gosh! Thrills & chills, indeed! This book has everything you could want. Gore, ghosts, & lots more. Each author has their own unique way of taking you on a spooky journey & I savored every story. I got so immersed in each one & was excited to see where the authors were taking me. Reading this book on a dark stormy night next to a cozy fire isn't required, but I would recommend it. Great job to all the authors!
Thrills and Chills delivers exactly what the title promises—dark, twisted, and spine-tingling tales perfect for Halloween night. From haunted houses to restless spirits, every story packs a punch of dread and atmosphere. A must-read anthology for fans of both psychological and paranormal horror!
This is an excellent Halloween anthology that includes some of my favorite authors!
Creepy trick or treating experience, yacht trip, haunted house and abandoned weekend getaways gone wrong. Ghosts, tricks, and games galore. You don't wanna miss out on these amazing stories!
I was blown away by this masterpiece! The mix of authors and stories is absolutely wonderful, and they all flow together so well. Each tale brings something unique, yet the collection feels cohesive. There’s the perfect balance of horror and thriller, with guts and gore, human monsters and paranormal terrors. Every story pulled me in so completely that I didn’t want them to end. This anthology is everything I want in Halloween reading—creepy, thrilling, and utterly addictive.
YEESSSS!! Okay, I did give this horror anthology an 8 💥 out of 5 possible 💥's because it contained something for everybody of all ages!! I was shocked, in a very good way, when I saw who all the authors were, that got together to put together this super creepy, Halloween, horror, Thrills and Chills anthology!! All my favorites. OMG, So, obviously that is why this book is so amazing. How could it not be, with all these authors, putting there spooky minds at work together. No spoilers here!! SORRY, you are just going to have to take my word on this on, and go... "trick or treat"? I highly recommend this book!
I am not a big Halloween fanatic. This Anthology not only got me to read books from authors I haven’t yet, and now I need to read more of their work. But it also is making me want to read more Halloween themed books. Each book gave a little taste, teaser of these authors and it was enough to suck you in, make you intrigued, twist you around and spit you back out.
Absolutely loved it and I found more authors to love.
My summary of this anthology was actually a few pages long, but I will try and condense it 😜🎃☠️👻😈 (The review has hints of what each story is about, so if you don’t want to read, look away now 😂)
“The Zahnfee” J.B Arnold- The rush of adrenaline when brother and sister go trick-or-treating starts the story off well as they climb the hill to the last house. Things take a turn when the woman of the house tells them that the Zahnfee can enter their realm. The young boy takes this information home and has a night that he will never forget. 😳😱
“Motor Yacht Persephone” Hayley Bernard Ryan- this was such a different take on a Halloween thriller. Justin O’Leary finds herself on a private luxury cruiser, but the crew members aren’t what you think. This was a great storyline as it has a great buildup of tales which takes you to the 31st of October,Halloween night. 👻😈
“ Haunted asylum” Elisa D Daniels- friends decide to go on a Halloween night out to get their adrenaline pumping. They head to a haunted house and screams are heard across the rooms, but are they there for the entertainment or are they real? It turns out to be a different night for one particular friend. Things don’t seem normal. 😱🫣
“Cosworth Manor” A. V Donaldson- a couple book into Cosworth Manor expecting to be entertained for two nights over Halloween by the owners. Feeling uncomfortable with the events unfolding they find themselves trapped, but can they free themselves from the surroundings they are trapped in? This story has the vibes of the Addams family 🎃👻
“The house of rot and ruin” Rachel Graham- this had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish because of the location of the story. Digby the main character, streams live to his fans who comment as he takes a nighttime tour in a disused, haunted mental hospital on All Hallow’s Eve night, can he find his way out? 🙏🫣
“She came back” Mark Jenkins - the story was cleverly written as you would expect from Mark. His storyline kept me guessing to where it was headed to, then, boom 💥 there it was. He catches you out and your brain has to process the story again and then it all makes sense. So many twist and turns within a short story. This one had ghostly vibes. 😱👻
D.J Maughan “Trick or treat” - Detective gardener partners up with Detective Joyce Powers who is near retirement. They are called out to the home of a man whose wife died awhile back, as he had graffiti painted on his shed about his wife, and her daughter visits to see what is happening. The ending is very clever. DJ Maughan‘s brain must’ve ached thinking this one up. 😳🎃
Brooke Montoya “Seance” - the story was creepy but what else would you expect? The atmosphere was well written and executed, grabbing me and bringing me into the scenes straight away. Friends trying to contact the spirit of a Roxford student that died of an overdose years ago end up on unearthing more than they bargained for. 👻🥲
M.S Savino “Ornamental”- the storyline was funny, clever, witty and also gruesome. The couple in the story have a love / hate relationship and the husband starts the ball rolling by being overly dramatic with how he wants to present his garden for the people’s choice award for the best Halloween garden display. You can imagine where MS Savino takes this narrative. Great page turner. 🔪🎃
Jessica Lynn Sorensen “Masked Confessions” - having a few beers on the porch, handing out candy to the trick or treaters, can turn out not how you expect. Keith, Wayne and Joel, tell each other tales of the past to try and creep one another out and one of the stories ends up turning the evening upside down. Again, another great twist at the end. Atmospheric with great Halloween vibes. 🎃😱
Tina S Transformation “All that remains” - this was another excellent story. Jared’s return home to his sick wife sends him on a manhunt for revenge. Unravelling the events of the night is not all as it seems. How these authors twist the ending is beyond me. I felt like I was on the hunt with him. The tangled web was deeper than he first expected, ….but that ending!!🔪😜
Keeley Webb “Little Red Devils” - future civilisation has changed considerably and women are sacrificed if selected for a hunt, which shows the public that all women need to be kept in line. The story goes back-and-forth 30 years and follows a family’s life which surrounds the makings of this hunt. A great tale that reminds me of the hunting games and it’s frustrating in some parts as you find yourself shouting at the characters. Another well written story 🔪🎃
I definitely give this anthology a five star. Well done to everybody involved. I will be purchasing this book for sure ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fun and creative. Perfect Halloween tale something I would let my YA/teens read. Fast pace and kept you interested. 4 ⭐

Story 5 The House of Rot and Ruin Rachel Graham
Love me a good haunted Asylum! Old abandoned buildings are amazing and fascinating. This brings all the Sam and Colby vibes. I can't wait to let my daughter read this story! 5 ⭐
Story 6 She Came Back Mark Jenkins
Not at all what I was expecting. I LOVED IT. Mark is one of my many favorite authors. His short story is remarkable. 5 ⭐
Story 7 Trick or Death D.J. Maughan
I absolutely love witty banter and humor. D.J is full of it. I greatly enjoy how different this one is from they typical Halloween themes. It is perfectly placed in this anthology to give it a nice break up. Fantastic story and I can't wait to follow more of Hank and Joyce. 5 ⭐
Story 8 Séance Brooke Montoya
Friends are the best. College days are days to remember in so many ways. Brooke always brings back the good old days (90's early 00's). Reading her stories is a trip down memory lane. 5 ⭐
Story 9 Ornamental M.A. Savino
Melissa is a top fave!! Everything she writes is an automatic buy. Such a great short story. One that is perfect for Halloween. Anoka Minnesota is a HUGE Halloween town so this tale is so perfect and just 20 mins south of me! 😂 5 ⭐
Story 10 Masked Confessions Jessica Lynn Sorensen
Mastermind of confession. You have no idea what direction this story is heading. Ghost tales or truth. It's like the game 3 lies and a truth, figure out which one it is. I can guarantee you won't see the turn of events coming.
Story 11 Wrong House Tina S Transformation
Tina has a way of literally pulling every heart string and making the tension so tight you are gasping for air. My heart broke with this short story. It's a mix a The Punisher and Medicine. What would you do for the one you love most? How far would you go for them?
Story 12 Little Red Devils Keeley Webb
The PERFECT ending!!! I got goosebumps with the finale chapter what a fantastic read!
Great collection of stories with a diverse range of stories. I loved that these weren't just short stories, each was like a mini book in itself.
The Zahnfee: Great descriptive language used throughout which made reading this story very enjoyable. This one was done very well.
Motor Yacht Persephone: I loved this story. I wasn't sure which way it was going to go, and the author did very well to keep you guessing. Great pacing throughout and loved the switches from casual, happy atmosphere to tension and then back again.
Haunted Asulum: Oh wow! I've always wanted to go to a place like this at Halloween and now I'm not so sure. Lol. My heart was pounding the whole time and that twist at the end! I did not expect that!
Cosworth Manor: Loved this story. It flowed well, was spooky and very well written. I loved what was done with the ending. Very clever.
The House of Rot and Ruin: This story is pure tension from start to finish. I loved it. The viewer comments really add something special to it, bringing the story into 4D so you feel even more immersed. Rachel has a knack for writing stories that draw you in and keep you hooked.
She Came Back: A great story beautifully woven with twists and turns throughout. I really liked how it came together and as I realised what was happening, I found myself going back and re-reading sections with new eyes.
Trick or Death: Nice little mystery story with a clever ending. I liked the way 1 + 1 added up to 3 with this story. It keeps you guessing.
Séance: This story did not go the way I thought it would which was a pleasant surprise. I found it quite touching and I very much enjoyed it.
Ornamental: What a fun take on a classic idea! I really enjoyed this one. It was funny, a little gruesome and written really well! Great story.
Masked Confessions: This story takes you on a clever little journey to an ending that you don't see coming. Simple idea that delivers a punch with great descriptive language and tension.
Wrong House: Good, fast paced story with an interesting idea. I both really liked and really disliked the ending. It was a bit cliché but also very satisfying.
Little Red Devils: Wow, wow and wow. This book is horrifying in its subject matter because I can all too easily see this happening. If you like the handmaid's tale, you will love this. The author seriously needs to look into taking this story and writing a series of full lengths novels.
Thrills and Chills is a deliciously dark sampler of horror tales, each with its own flavor of fright. As an anthology, it offers a wide range of voices—from poetic dread to pulse-pounding terror—and I found myself drawn to the stories that whispered rather than screamed.
While not every tale landed for me, the collection as a whole felt like a haunted house tour: some rooms startled me, others lingered with quiet unease. A few standouts still echo in my mind, proving that short fiction can pack a powerful punch.
Perfect for fans of bite-sized nightmares and atmospheric storytelling, Thrills and Chills is a moody, memorable read—best enjoyed with the lights low and your imagination wide open.
12 thriller/horror stories in this awesome anthology. Anything from a Halloween themed yacht trip gone wrong, the krampus of Halloween, a prank gone wrong, an influencer visit to a haunted asylum, a spooky weekend at a bed and breakfast, ouija boards, a horror driven Groundhog Day giving a new definition to “death do us part,” don’t let this anthology pass you by! Perfect for the season ❤️
The amount of talented authors in this book is just crazy! Every story was unique and really made me think twice about a lot of things...ha ha! Go on a cruise? Nope! Maybe a haunted asylum? Uh uh! What about trying hard to decorate your yard for a Halloween competition? ABSOLUTELY NOT! If you enjoy the spooky season, short stories and lots of creepiness, this book is for you!
Wow! This was my first anthology to read and it set the bar high for any that I read next. I thoroughly enjoyed each story within this anthology. It had all of my favorite Halloween themes throughout the entire book. Each story encompassed a different Halloween favorite and they were unique to each author! I couldn’t get enough! What a perfect read for October!
I learned of this Halloween anthology Thrills and Chills, ad a member of DJ Maughan's (1 of the contributing authors) Street Team. I usually don't read short stories, but I'm glad I purchased this one!
What a great variety - supernatural, humans behaving badly, and dystopian societies (that hit a little too close to current events) - there is something for everyone, especially as we near the Halloween season!
Since every story is written by a different author, the styles & tones are different. I definitely found some amazing new to me authors and will check out their other books. Thank you to the Psychological Thriller Book Group for your work in this anthology, and I hope this anthology becomes an annual tradition!
every story stuck with me after, and i enjoyed every single one! i was very anxious to read the ones from Elisa Daniels and Mark Jenkins particularly because i had never before read their work and i constantly hear how great it is; lets just say I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND IT NOW! marks was a BANGER way to end the whole thing, LOVE that quick little read!
This is such an amazing anthology of spooky, creepy, sometimes gory, and completely enjoyable Halloween stories. All 12 authors are wonderful. Some I have read everything they have written, but those that I haven't yet read everything by, you'd better believe they are on my tbr!
Definitely recommend this to get your October off to a great start!
everything you want in Halloween stories is in here! such a great mix of stories by authors I've never read from before and it makes me want to read more!
I don't read a lot of anthologies, but I really enjoyed this one. Every story was good. Some were spookier than others, but I enjoyed them all. Perfect October read. Each story was different and unique.
This was the Halloween book that I never knew I needed! I decided that every story was my favorite until I read the next one! After I finished, I couldn't decide which one was the best! This one is a whole collection of FIVE STARS!!
Thrills and Chills A Halloween Anthology has 12 chilling Halloween stories by 12 authors! A terrifying tooth fairy, a spooky Seance, a strange manor and 9 other tales of Halloween murd3r and mayhem. I enjoyed them all!
This anthology was a fantastic read! Each story delivers its own brand of fear and eerie atmosphere, making it impossible to choose a favorite. I loved them all for different reasons. Whether you’re waiting for the tooth fairy, entering a neighborhood yard-decorating contest, or taking a boat ride straight from hell, beware the power Halloween holds.
“The Zahnfee” by J.B. Arnold A chilling twist on the origin of the tooth fairy. I already thought the idea of a fairy collecting teeth was unsettling, but after reading this… let’s just say I’m very glad my teeth are done falling out.
“Séance” by Brooke Montoya This story gave me serious ’90s slasher vibes with a supernatural edge. Very Fear Street, R.L. Stine, and Christopher Pike straight out of the Scholastic Book Fair. College students, a Ouija board, a haunted dorm, and a tight-knit group of friends come together for a deliciously creepy read. I loved this one.
“Trick of Death” by D. J. Maughan This Halloween horror police procedural made my inner Perry Mason and Matlock very happy. I love a small-town mystery, and this one delivers with dark twists, family drama, and detectives slowly getting to know one another. Excellent character development for such a short story.
“Ornamental” by M.A. Savino In true Savino fashion, this story is creepy, violent, and darkly hilarious. A couple is trapped reliving the same day Groundhog Day-style…except its Halloween weekend, over and over again. And there’s a catch… a deadly one.
“Masked Confessions” by Jessica Lynn Sorensen First of all, the Mandy character felt eerily close to my own life…minus the un-aliving part, of course. This story is dark, twisted, and unsettling. Be careful who you share your secrets with… even if they’re your friends. I love Jessica’s writing style.
“Wrong House” by Tina S. Transformation When everything you love is taken from you, how far would you go for revenge? This was a gripping story about loss and perfectly executed vengeance. Dark, satisfying, and intense.
“Motor Yacht Persephone” by Hayley Bernard Ryan I loved this dark and bloody boat ride. Just remember…not everything that glitters is gold. Violent, fast-paced, and fun.
“Cosworth Manor” by A.V. Donaldson What’s meant to be a spooky, romantic Halloween getaway quickly becomes a fight for survival. Finding the perfect destination isn’t the challenge for this couple, but escaping it might be.
“Haunted Asylum” by Elisa D. Daniels A group of friends sets out for a night of spooky fun at a haunted attraction. How fast can fun turn into terror? The ending is one you won’t see coming.
“The House of Rot and Ruin” by Rachel Graham The influence of negative comments on content creators is terrifying on its own. Add a haunted, abandoned mental hospital, and things become downright deadly.
“She Came Back” by Mark Jenkins The perfect Halloween revenge story: ghosts, ghouls, fall streets, and sweet treats included. Just remember… don’t pet the hounds of hell. Classic small-town horror at its finest.
From the moment I opened the book, I was hooked. It has a little bit of everything: spooky stories, creepy twists, eerie atmosphere. Perfect. Whether you’re into subtle chills or full-on Halloween terror, this collection has something for you. The lineup of authors behind it is exceptional. No wonder it’s so good. When brilliant spooky minds collaborate, you know you’re in for a thrilling ride. Every story adds its own flavour and together they create an unforgettable Halloween experience. I’m not giving away any spoilers. You’ll just have to grab a copy and see for yourself.
12 heart thumping, spine tingling short stories by 12 talented, twisted minded indie authors.
The authors showcase their individual writing styles, creativity, and sinister minds. Each one brings you something creepily different that is sure to give a fright. From bumps in the night to Halloween fun turned nightmare. This collection of stories is exactly what you need for the spooky season.
Some stories made me grateful I have no friends and others stirred up my phobias. I was taken from one eerie world to the next. There was no letting up on the terrifying scenes. They each pulled me in and I didn't want to stop reading.
I love anthologies. It gives you an opportunity to read and discover new authors. None of these are new to me I absolutely love each of them. Make sure to go follow each of them. Then make that TBR longer with their other books.
