Being a teenager bites—literally. When a classmate develops a thirst for blood, one girl must confront her secret supernatural past before things turn deadly. Fans counting down the days to the Buffy the Vampire reboot will sink their teeth into this dark and hilarious YA debut.
Her past is back for blood.
My goals for senior year were simple: Find a prom dress I don’t hate Spend as much time as possible with my amazing boyfriend Max (and my even more amazing best friend Sarita) Maybe try not to flunk history class
My plans did NOT include: Babysitting a newborn vampire—who also happens to be Max’s annoying (and annoyingly cute) buddy Ezra Fighting off my ex-boyfriend—who did I mention is immortal? And generally worrying about death and blood and mayhem
Turning human was supposed to mean finally getting a second chance at a normal life. But ever since moving to Sunrise Harbor, Florida, nothing has been normal. What’s worse is I actually made friends here. And when my dark past threatens to take it all away, well, being mortal totally sucks.
Award-winning author Darcy Miller makes her YA debut in this wise-cracking and witty entry that brings new blood to your favorite vampire tropes.
This was fun and cute, giving off major Buffy vibes. Sarita, the “Willow” of the group, was my favorite character. I wish we could have gotten a little more of her interacting with her crush Astrid. They were adorable together! I also found Ezra, who felt like the “Oz” of the group, lovable. Cassius was cocky, creepy and possessive and felt like a worthy foe. I didn’t care for Max though, who was clearly the “Riley” of the group. Having him be in peril didn’t work well for me since I kept finding myself thinking, “Maybe it’d be best to just let the vampires eat him.”
Lily was reasonably likable, though I had to suspend my disbelief that she’d previously been a vampire because she seemed naive even for a regular teenager, let alone one who’d been a vampire for over a century before recently returning to being human. I would have been more plausible to me if she’d only spent a few days, weeks, months, or even a year as a vampire. Perhaps, like Twilight, vampires are meant to stay developmentally frozen at the age of when they were turned, but I often wished Lily would be a little quicker on the uptake. Especially when it came to the identity of who’d turned Ezra, which was fairly obvious.
I also found it difficult to believe that anyone who’d roamed the earth as long as Lily had would be romantically interested in not only one, but two teenage boys. What would they possibly have in common with each other? Though, to be fair, that’s a common trope in vampire stories, one that baffles me every time, so that’s hardly a unique issue with this specific book.
Most of the plot was on the predictable side, though not necessarily in a disappointing way, but there was one major twist toward the middle of the book that took me completely by surprise.
Overall, I’d recommend this to lovers of YA vampire books and anyone who was looking forward to the Buffy reboot before it go t cancelled and needs a new way to get their vampire fix.
I received an advanced copy from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving this review.
Thank you NetGalley, Penguin Random House, and Darcy Miller of the eArc copy of "I Am Not a Vampire (Anymore)" in exchange for an honest review.

Normally, when I'm told a book is something for fans of or similar to (*Insert popular thing here*) that book is the furthest thing from any of those. Darcy Miller delivered on exactly what this book said it was going to be and for who.
I love this book. I love this book and I can not wait for more to come. This book made me feel like I was a teen again, sitting in the school library, devouring yet another fun and enjoyable vampire novel. I could sense the influence of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Last Vampire (Thirst), Night World, The Vampire Diaries, The Vampire Chronicles, The Drake Chronicles, Jessica's Guide, and so many many more within this book. Honestly, I could go on for days. Miller was able to capture their essence and give little heads nods while maintaining complete originality.
"I Am Not a Vampire (Anymore)" is a book that follows ex-vampire Lily in her attempt to live a normal life. That is until her boyfriends bestie turns vampire. She not only has to teach him how to survive, but also deal with her dark past hunting her down. Lily, Ezra, Max, and Sarita get to band together in a witty mesh of dialogue to save each other.
When I say I loved this book, I really do mean it. I can not wait for publishing so that I can re-read it over and over again. I absolutely loved the characters, their interactions, and the dialogue. While I do love the fast paced nature of the book, I do wish it would have been longer. I wish I could have spent more time with each character and in the city of Sunrise Harbor. That's just me being selfish though because this book yanked me in and I wasn't ready to leave.
I'M NOT A VAMPIRE (ANYMORE) by Darcy Miller (June 9, 2026)
Thank you Netgalley, GetUnderlined, and Delacorte for the earc
When Lily's boyfriend's best friend starts acting strange, she realizes he's a vampire. Pulled back into the world she left, she's left babysitting him as they work to fend off her ex-boyfriend who also happens to be a vampire while trying to survive being a human in high school. I'M NOT A VAMPIRE (ANYMORE) is a YA supernatural thriller. I'M NOT A VAMPIRE (ANYMORE) is an easy read. Honestly, it's one of those books where I didn't feel like I was reading. The words flowed nicely, and the characters, for the most part, were likeable. These are the kinds of characters you can't help but root for. Especially Lily because after everything she had been through, she deserved some peace. I've never read a book where the main character---or any character for that matter---was a human turned vampire turned back to human, which made this more interesting because we're always seeing human to vampire and not the other way around. There were a lot of twists and additions that seemed to come out of nowhere, especially in the beginning. But, Miller was able to explain those and blend them seamlessly in a way that made them make sense. This did end abruptly, the last chapter leaving a lot of things open and unsaid. I do think an epilogue would have been nice, or perhaps a sequel to really wrap things up. Other than that, this fast-paced read was well-written and intriguing with just the right amount of supernatural meets fantasy meets thills.
Lily is putting off decisions about after high school, but she's probably going to just follow her boyfriend, Max, where-ever he goes after they graduate. But then Max's best friend Ezra gets sick, but not just any sick. Ezra is actually dying and becoming a vampire. Lily knows, because she used to be a vampire. Now she has to teach Ezra how to be a vampire while hiding her past from Max and her bestie, Sarita - oh, and making sure her past hasn't caught up to her. Because it turns out her ex-boyfriend has tracked her down.
Add in some witches who are vampire hunters, because why not, a love triangle and shake it all up.
I really enjoyed reading this book, I thought the premise was really interesting. There were several "plot twists" that you saw coming, but it was still really engaging and fun.
A big thanks to Netgaey and Darcy Miller for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my opinion. Lily cannot seem to stay away from the supernatural and that's the basis for this story. As the title implies, Lily is not a vampire, but she used to be before she became human again but once again she will have to pull on her skills and teach her boyfriends best friend, Ezra turned and its on her to show him the ropes. Throw in a villain in the form of Lily's ex and you have a solid story with a great pace, wonderful character development and a very original premise. This book did give me Buffy vibes times which I thoroughly enjoyed. This is a YA debut novel and I think anyone who loves vampire books like me should definitely pick it up!! 4 stars!
"I Am Not a Vampire (Anymore)" by Darcy Miller is a funny and fresh, YA vampire story. You will be pleasantly surprised by the plot and writing. This was a breath of fresh air. I have a weakness for the horror genre because of how creative the stories are. This novel took the cake. The main character of Miller's novel, has to balance being a teenager, along with being caught up in a half a centuries worth drama between vampires and witches. The cherry on the pie of all this nonsense, is that one of her friends is turned into a vampire. Now, she has to help him get adjusted to his new life. She would know how, since she used to be one. I am so glad I found this book. It combined some of life's greatest gifts, humor and horror. You won't be able to put it down.
Thank you Net Galley and Penguin Random House for this arc for my honest review. 4.5 star out of 5 stars 1st pov(Lily) YA vampire book Lily's goal for her senior year was to find a prom dress or maybe not fluck her classes but when one of her classmates, Erza, gets turned into a vampire. All of lily's past life as a vampire comes tumbling back to her. Turning human was supposed to be easier but she can't escape the supernatural world. Nothing will ever actually be normal. I thought this book was super easy to read. The character are easy to root for and I found myself wanting another books in this series. Like I want more of Erza figuring out how to be a vampire.
A light, fun, hilarious YA novel about a girl who is no longer a vampire but decides to help her friend and newly turned vampire learn the ropes. This book is marketed as YA, and refreshingly actually fits in the YA category. Despite our character being a centuries old former vampire she is now a fully human high school girl and goes through all of the embarrassing, awkward moments of high school. She is snarky, loyal to her friends, and very likable as a character. Despite the light humorous tone, there are some heavier underlying themes, which the author delivers in an appropriate YA voice.

If I was in high school and suddenly turned into a vampire--I'd probably go into full Edward Cullen mode. Twilight lighting and everything. I think reading this, is like a love story in a way to vampires. but like...non hot ones !
This is a fun YA debut that's perfect for summer or spooky season. Could have had some plot twists answered slightly better but all in all, a fun read.
Ok, I like it when horror and humor go hand in hand. Being a teenager is difficult even without being a former vampire. This horror/humor combo is well suited to the setting of high school . Drama and 'secrets' being at the center of all things humorous and horror filled. YA readers will enjoy this. It is a solid contribution that will help round out library or school collections of horror. Cute, dramatic, but also fairly predictable from an adult stand point. Easy read.
3.5 stars. I was able to get an arc of this book and it was pretty good. There were a few places that seemed like it slowed down enough that I thought the book was coming to an end but it wasn't. Still a pretty good book, I would recommend it if you like vampire books, not as much twilight vampires but other vampire books. all in all it was a pretty quick easy read.
Enjoyable vampire and witch book. Where the main character Lily is running from her past self and it catches up with her. A quick read but fun read that had some feel of the show Buffy the vampire slayer to it.
Thank you Random House Children's Books and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Senior year checklist: ✔ cute dress ✔ perfect boyfriend ✔ survive high school
…oh, and apparently: ✖ babysit a newborn vampire ✖ dodge your immortal ex ✖ try not to die (again)
Ex-vampire Lily thought turning human meant a fresh start—but Sunrise Harbor has other plans. When a classmate develops a serious blood problem, her past claws its way back… and this time, it’s not playing nice.
Think Buffy the Vampire Slayer, crossed with Erin Jade's Mere Mortals vibe with chaos, comedy & a dash of unexpected romance thrown in. This book had me laughing out loud! Of course, I grabbed the ARC because it has vampires in the story. I can't wait for the published version to come out. The students will snatch this one off the shelf! Thanks Edelweiss for the e-arc!
