THEY'RE CALLED COMMUNITY CATS - BECAUSE IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO CARE FOR THEM.
Kit and her Mama Mining feed community cats in their home at Barangay Buwan, Zambales. The cats arrive one by one as if lining up for food at a cafeteria!
All is well and good, until one of the cats experiences health issues, funds start depleting, and a surly old neighbor, Mr. Simpatico, moves in next door.
Kit quickly learns it takes a whole village to care for cats, and it can only happen when she starts asking for help from her community.
This comic book is just to adorable—perfect for every cat lover out there!
Relatable, heartwarming, and purr-fectly charming, this is 𝗖𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗯𝘆 𝗔𝗿𝗹𝗶 𝗣𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗻.
You could say it was love at first sight when my daughter Irie and I first spotted this book on Instagram. So of course, it was at the top of my MIBF list! And while I left the rest of my book haul for shipping, this one came home with me so I could surprise her.
What we love about this book is its full-on, colorful, and fun illustrations. And beyond being just a heartwarming story about cats, it’s also filled with helpful tips on how to care for them.
(4.5/5) Such a super cute and genuinely enjoyable read! Beyond delivering its clear advocacy, what really stood out to me was how nuanced the characters felt, thoughtfully exploring family, friendship, and community.
I adore this art style so, so much. It’s soft, expressive, and bursting with charm. There wasn’t a single dull moment in the entire comic. As a cat lover, I couldn't handle the cuteness aggression that threatened to consume me while reading this. Absolutely no notes! You can really feel the passion woven into both the storytelling and the visuals. It’s sincere, warm, and so cutieful!
As far as books/comics crafted to promote an advocacy, this is a highly effective one. It's easy to dismiss efforts to feed cats in your community as a very simple thing, and Cat Cafeteria goes the extra mile to really illustrate and explain all the things you need to think about when it comes to caring for community cats.
The whole piece is anchored to a pretty well thought-out story as our protagonist navigates her life, protecting the cats she cares for, and trying to help others see her perspective. The "antagonist" of sorts could have been a caricature villain, but ended up being a rather nuanced character with a fair amount of emotional depth.
This graphic novel about community cats really touched my heart. I didn’t expect it to be so emotional. I actually cried, because it reminded me of all the pets I’ve lost over the years. The way it captures the bond between humans and animals is so real and tender.
I also learned a lot about how to better care for stray and community animals. Things like feeding, shelter, neutering, and responsible adopting. It made me more aware and more grateful for the people who quietly care for these animals every day ♡
It’s a beautiful, gentle read that stays with you.
A heartfelt and warm read, I liked that this is story resonates with the author alot and they did their best to help provide information for ways of caring and nurturing cats.
