I’m going to have to process this one for a hot second. As a caregiver to my own kids with ASD, this one hit so close to home- fears, hopes, sacrifice, adapting, grief, and guilt. I love how Jenny Hale empowered Nick but focused most of the story on Josie’s identity crisis… because at the end of the day this is an all too real reality for caregivers. As always, Jenny Hale wove a beautiful atmospheric tale combined with a sweet love story that didn’t overshadow Josie’s quest to find herself, despite herself. Loved it even though it was difficult for me to read.

I have literally fallen in love with this book, was a truly wonderful heartfelt read from start to finish. It was so much more than a romance story, had lots going on and I was pretty much glued to the pages throughout and couldn't turn the pages quick enough.
I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of the characters, and seeing how things would turn out for them all. All of the ups and downs, and how everything came together at the end, with a few surprises thrown in along the way. It really was the perfect read, and I didn't want it to end.
I also loved that part of the story was focused on a character that was autistic, as I found it to be insightful, as well as learning a bit more on just what life can be like for an autistic person. Tasks that we take for granted, that come easily to us are not so easy and can be a struggle for someone that is autistic.
Having read a quite a lot of Jenny's books previously, I am happy to report that she is a wonderful author, has such a amazing way with words that just keeps you wanting more and the way she writes her characters and how they develop throughout a book, really makes them come alive.

Really enjoyed this one, it’s not her best but brings out a lot of emotions, almost enough for me to round up to 5 stars. I love her books for the sweetness and emotions they bring. I never regret picking one up for a quick read that I know will leave me in the feels.

The Golden Hour is an uplifting and heartwarming romance that I could not put down.
I have a new favourite Jenny Hale book! The Golden Hour just sucked me in and would not let go. When I wasn’t reading it, I was thinking about it. I just became so obsessed with the story and characters Jenny has created. For those new to Jenny’s storytelling, her books are always bursting with charm, heartfelt moments, and a love story that will surely sweep you off your feet. Even though there is this light fluffiness to her books (this one included), they also often deal with some tough and real topics. I often find myself tearing up once or twice in Jenny’s books. In this book, we are transported to the luscious coastal city of Rosemary Beach, located in Florida. Jenny uses vivid and lush descriptions to bring this coastal city to life. I felt like I could feel the sun on my face and the sand between my toes. I wanted to pack my bags and drive down to Florida.
In The Golden Hour, Josie loses both of her parents and finds herself taking care of her teenage brother, Nick, who is autistic. Both Josie and Nick are grieving the loss of their parents in their own way. Josie learns to cope by focusing on caring for Nick, and Nick deals with his grief by losing himself in numbers or math equations. I thought Jenny did an amazing job at thoughtfully approaching the topic of grief and showing how everyone deals with grief in their own way and that there is no set timeline for when a person’s grief will disappear. Jenny’s books will always transport her to gorgeous and unforgettable locations.
I adored the sibling relationship between Josie and Nick. These two are so close, and I love their interactions throughout this book. Josie has always had this more motherly role in Nick’s life because their mother had passed away when Nick was born. In this book, these two are at a point in their relationship where things are changing. Nick seems to be becoming more independent, and if he wins this math competition, he will have the opportunity to go to college, which means that he will not depend on Josie as much. Josie realizes that she needs to start thinking of what she will do with her own life. Both characters are wonderfully developed and have such amazing depth.
The romance in this book is a sweet second chance, a friend-to-lovers love story. Jenny’s books are always closed-door romances, so there is very little spice. Instead, what you get is this charming romance that just puts a smile on your face. I loved Josie and Julian as a couple. There was just something so right about these two. Julian is such a sweet guy, and I loved how he adored Josie. His quest to show Josie how much she means to him has my heart pitter-pattering a little faster.
The Golden Hour is a breathtaking and spectacular love story that I will be reading again and again.

My Opinion
Jenny Hale is a must read author for me and when I read a stunning book like this it is not hard to see why. Whilst still packing a punch, Jenny Hale has written a heart-warming tale. Everything Josie does is for her brother Nick following the death of their father.
I don't even know where to begin with explaining my love for this book. I read this in one sitting and I really wasn't ready for the book to end. I flew through the pages, it was just so easy to read. I am sure I have previously said this but Jenny Hale is an author that everyone should check out - I haven't read a single book that has disappointed me.
This is going to make for a great beach read. All of the characters were delightful and relatable - overall this was just beautifully written.

Josie Wills puts her dreams on hold when her father unexpectedly passes away due to a heart attack. She returns home to take care of her teenage brother Nick who is on the autism spectrum. She loves her brother very much, and will do anything for him. She also leaves behind her first love, Julian Russell to take care of Nick. Her first job is waiting tables and living paycheck to paycheck, barely able to make ends meet. Josie comes across an advertisement for a mathematics competition and convinces Nick to enroll in the competition. The winner of the competition gets a full paid college scholarship. When Nick is accepted into the competition, Josie doesn’t think twice about dropping everything and taking him to the competition. With excitement in their hearts, they make the journey from their small Tennessee town, to the beautiful and breathtaking Rosemary Beach, located on the sparkling Gulf Coast. While they explore the area, what she never expected is to find is Julian. When she unexpectedly uncovers a mystery, once again her life changes, but this time, it’s forever.
Oh my goodness, I almost don’t know where to begin with this phenomenal story. First of all, I absolutely adore every person in this story. Jenny Hale pens an incredibly amazing story of love, loss, family, friendship and new beginnings. I felt as if the characters were close family members and my heart broke when their heart broke. I felt compassion for them and cheered them on at the same time. The plot twist and turns were a perfect storyline and kept me flying through pages, making this book unputdownable. This book transported me to Rosemary Beach on the Gulf Coast and I am now looking to vacation there. It sounds so beautiful, that I have to see it for myself. This is definitely my most favorite story that Jenny Hale has written….well, at least for now, until she writes her next story and then that one will be my favorite I’m sure. I absolutely loved everything about this story. Do not wait to read this one!! I highly recommend this amazing ten star read.

Every time I start a new book by Jenny Hale I’m always pleasantly surprised by how much I love it from page one. It’s like I know from the start that I’m reading a special book, and one that will be five shiny stars and it’s such a great feeling.
This story contains many of the great things I love about her books…. great characters, life changes and growth of the characters, new and renewing romances and family priorities.
Jenny Hale has a real talent when it comes to describing places and settings.
Her descriptions are so vivid and real, it really feels like you are there with the characters.
This is a well-written, fun, light-hearted romance you’ll fall in love with thanks to a heartwarming plot, great group of characters and a beautiful setting all rolled together to make the perfect escape. I absolutely adored this lovely bunch of characters, all so well lined out, all of them adding a spark to the story.
It’s one of those books you can easily fall into and binge your way to the finish without taking a break as you soak in the chemistry and lives of these characters.
Hale is a go-to comfort author for me and this story definitely filled that need.

Powerful and heartwarming in the freshest way.
Josie leaves Julian behind when duty, in the form of her autistic brother, calls her away from college and back to her mountain hometown after her father's untimely death. Lonely but loyal, Josie takes an uncharacteristic leap of faith for her brother Nick by moving temporarily down to Rosemary Beach for a competition that's right up his alley.
Ahhh but Julian. He loved the beach, too, thanks to Josie's suggestion that they visit it while in college, a trip she never got to make. And guess what, when she travels there, she runs into him––he moved there and he's still as dreamy as ever.
The will-they-won't-they throughout this book is delicious, as are the vivid descriptions of the gulf coast. I want to go! I cried throughout the beginning of this book, and I felt so seen through all of Josie's struggles as someone who has in the past been low-income. Those frugal/scarcity mindsets don't easily leave us. I was so proud of Josie for taking off those shackles and following her heart and letting "love guide [her]", as her trusty compass suggested.
This is a tale of found family (some entirely new, and some that had been there all along, though Josie didn't realize it) with a genuine surprise twist that I did not see coming. You think the author is setting you up for one thing--and you're not wrong about it--but then another thing comes entirely out of left field and fits in so very nicely.
All in all, an inspiring and emotional read that I recommend to all sweet romance fans.

I love Jenny Hale’s books because they are always heartfelt, entertaining, and have happy endings!
Josie had no choice but to move home from college when her dad unexpectedly died of a heart attack, in order to take care of her brother, Nick. Nick is on the autism spectrum. Josie worked as a waitress and lived from pay check to paycheck. When her brother is having a hard time with life in general, Josie wants to show him there is more to life than school, so she convinces him to enter a math competition. This competition could change his life as the winner receives a full scholarship to college. When Nick is accepted into the competition, Josie risks it all to give her brother the opportunity. Will this be the fresh start Nick and Josie need to move on after their father’s death?
A wonderful and heartfelt story of loss, love, family, friendships, and second beginnings. From the writing to the story, this book draws you in and keeps you turning the pages until the end! First, I want to thank Jenny Hale and Harpeth Road Press for providing me with this book so I may bring you this review.
The Golden Hour is a very beautiful written book by Jenny Hale that will have you smiling! With each book Jenny writes you can just tell she puts her whole heart and soul into writing her books. Out of all the books she has written, this one is one of my favorites.
Kristen Ingebretson is an incredibly talented cover designer that created Jenny’s beautiful cover. This cover is truly breathtaking!
The Golden Hour concentrates on family and finding yourself after tragedies.
Jenny with the help of Amy Nielsen created an amazing character with autism by the name of Nick. Nick pulled on all of my heartstrings seeing him mature throughout the storyline.

I loved some of the unique names that Jenny created. I kept thinking of Zelda the Nintendo game from back in the day. Plus, Rainy was a very unique character.
There were definitely some wicked twists and turns I never saw coming. However, after the secrets were revealed it was all made since.

Josie In college, comes home quick as her dad had died. Never to return. Just up and left. Julian and Josie had gotten pretty tight and it was hard on Julian to have her just walk away.
She felt she had to. She didn’t want to drag him down with her. So she was home taking care of her autistic brother. Every thing she did was for him.
A contest came up for Math whiz kids. So Nike joins he’s very up tight about it. But as he began she finds like people. Felt nice to him to have things of combined, he meets a girl there and is stricken with her.
So the go all the way to the end of the contest but someone else wins but they are alright because they had talked about staying in this beach town.
Josie and Julian work together on getting his business up and running Josie comes up with Marketing Plans. It’s doing good.
Zelda told Josie she is her mother it went well. Then Hazel her new friend ends up being Zelda sister. Her mom gave her up, but the watch had the pieces come together
So Nike was going to stay and work with Dr McDonogh Josie was painting and helping Julian Julian is doing his business. Nikes girl is going to do on line classes to be near Nike. Zelda is going back and forth. And they are staying in Helen’s guest house to be together.

Josie lives in a tiny southern town (more of a village) with her neurodiverse brother. She has taken care of him ever since her mother died, and her father, while a good man, was overwhelmed. With his encouragement, she went to college, but had to cut it short when he died. Setting aside her own dreams, she works at a diner while parenting Nick. As he reaches eighteen, it's getting bleak. There's nowhere for his genius intellect to go, and he's drifting. When Josie convinces him to enter a math contest for super-brainy people, they travel to Rosemary Beach, Florida and their lives are changed forever.
This is a feel-good story with real struggles. For example, as Nick blossoms, Josie goes through her own version of empty-nest syndrome. I read this in one day because it was interesting. The one knock on it was that there were too many joyful coincidences, however pleasant to imagine. But for a modern-day fairy tale, it was really good.

Ya’ll. Jenny’s books are hugs on paper! When you turn the last page, you just feel GOOD and your heart is all warm and fuzzy! I am a complete sucker for a small town, beach setting with second chance romance, new beginnings and a smidge of mystery … and this one brings it! Josie’s story of loss, courage and risk is captivating and when Julian comes back into the mix, it’s magic. And Nick and Rainy are adorable too … I was cheering so loud them all the way through!
From the descriptive writing to the supporting characters to the food, fun & sun, I felt that I was right there on the Gulf with all of them!
Oh and the epilogue? … it left me feeling like a puddle of mushy goo!! I was all smiles and swoon!

Loved this story. Josie's mother died after childbirth of NIck, the younger brother. Josie helped her father with him. While in college, their father died and Josie had to leave college to help him. She left her first love Julian. Waiting tables at the local diner she found a opportunity for Nick inline. He has autism. She found that in Rosemary Beach , Fla. a Dr. Randolph McDonough was offering a full ride schlorship with a yearly stipend to the winner of Battle of Mathematical Minds. Aunt Zelda bought the house and off she and NIck went. She rented a condo for 2 weeks. After they arrive and get settled, they go put to dinner and who does she run into but Julian and the next day at classes Nick meets Rainy and then Josie meets a new friend at the cafe. Well this story is A GREAT READ. See how this all ties together.

Jenny Hale is another one of those auto-buy authors I have discovered through the bookstagram community. I will always love her novels. They have real characters with real problems, and yet are still like a warm hug of growth and endearment.

The novel takes us on a walk through Josie and her autistic brother, Nick’s lives, as they endure several unexpected and deeply painful losses early in their lives.
We then learn quickly that Josie is willing to do anything for her brother, and Nick is ready to stretch his wings and grow as a world-class mathematician. As they head to the beautiful gulf coast beaches of Florida for a math competition, we walk along with Josie, who learns to release her brother into the world as well as open up to allowing herself to be happy.
I loved the little twist of surprises along the way, and the friendships Josie and Nick built were just wonderful, coming after all of their struggles and life experiences so early on.
I highly recommend this novel if you love watching a family grow, second chances, and surprising happy moments!

I wasn’t sure this was the book for me because I am not a fan f women’s fiction but having two grandsons in the spectrum, one eighteen and one five I was drawn to this story. It was very obvious that the author had some experience with autism or had done quite a bit of research. You will enjoy Josie’s journey from a very small town in Tennessee to Rosemary Beach , Florida with her brother Nick.. When her mother died giving birth to her brother, she took the place of her mother and even though her father was always there for them, she was a strong influence in Nick’s life. Then when her Father died, Josie dropped out of college to take care of her brother and that is where we meet this family and travel with them. Great book

I love this story about family and fate. While Josie makes taking care of her autistic brother the sole focus of her life after her father died, she did so at the cost of giving up her dreams for post-college life. She had just begun to kindle the romance with her longtime friend Julian when she had to abruptly leave, and she always wondered what might have happened has she let her relationship with Julian take hold. As Josie took a leap of faith to take her and Nick down to Rosemary Beach, FL, this story delights with twists of fate, signs from above, and affirmation that love can abound for all people, through space and time!

The Golden Hour by Jenny Hale is an enlightening summer read. Josie Wills is away at college when her father dies of a heart attack. As her mother died years ago, she must return home to care for her brother who is in high school. Josie loves Nick. Nick is a mathematical genius on the autism spectrum. When a math competition is advertised, Josie hopes it will be Nick's ticket to a future with like minded people. They head to Florida after Nick is accepted into the competition and they share friendship, love and acceptance. A mystery needs to be solved as well.
Nice novel and the reader will learn a few things about the needs of autistic young adults.

A heartwarming read
I love the depth of these characters. Josie is so young when she’s lost her mother and then not too many years later her father, leaving her to be a single mom to an autistic brother. She takes this in stride. She’s sweet and caring and puts her life on hold to ensure her brother has everything he needs.
I love how they find their way to the Florida beach town and their true future. It’s a story of perseverance and love. It was a beautiful story. It’s easy to give this read a 5 star review.

I loved this latest story by Jenny Hale. It oozes family relationships and romance that is always at the head of Jenny's books.
Josie Wills gives up on her dream as she becomes carer of her autistic brother Nick after the death of her Dad. Josie wants to give Nick every opportunity in life and she does so without any regrets.
Josies character is beautiful and selfless and Nick is just innocent and lovely.
I can recommend this warm hearted book and award it 5 stars.

I loved every moment of this book. In true Jenny Hale fashion, the story found a way to touch my heart in such a special and unique way, especially Nick’s character, as he reminds me so much of my niece. I am thrilled that The Golden Hour includes positive relationships regarding individuals with disabilities; this world needs more awareness and acceptance of neurodiversity and The Golden Hour nailed it. Kudos to Jenny Hale on yet another 5-star book about family and love.

Now this is the kind of book I Love! Jenny Hale writes such heartfelt stories I so love that about her. This story has it all covered from love, family, loss, friendship and new beginnings. Her books always draw me in and I never want them to end. In my opinion, this is her best book yet. Thank you for allowing me to read and review an early copy. Please don’t miss this one. Another beautiful Jenny Hale book!
Like all the other books that I have read by MS Hale, this one was also a delight to read. Believable characters, a lovely little beach town and lots if discovery and love. Some delightful twists and turns,making this a wonderful read. Her books are clean and are full of hope. and love. I highly recommend this book as well as any of her books that you may want to read.

Heartwarming and I couldn't put it down!
I would recommend this book to anyone who has experienced difficulties in life but who has persevered. This was the best kind of love story because it was love of family and friends as well as love between two people . the story was one I have never come across. It was intriguing and kept you guessing until the very end. And a delightful end it was!!

Opening a Jenny Hale book always brings me joy. The Golden Hour brought me joy by the bucketfuls! I loved the characters, so reading about their lives and watching their growth throughout the book was delightful. The Gulf Coast setting was beautiful and relaxing. This book had so many layers to it. I loved the twists and turns in the plot, and watching everything come together in a happily ever made me sigh with happiness! I highly recommend this sweet romance.

Great story with interesting characters and locations. I really enjoyed the way the author told the story with the dialogue and thoughts expressed by each of the characters. I plan to read and/or listen to more Jenny Hale books. This book I listened in audio, great narrator too. I recommend this one!
