The first time I laid my eyes on Matthew Williams, I knew he spelled trouble.
Dark haired, broody and with eyes as tempestuous as the sea, he stole my breath away.
The pull to become his friend was irresistible. Falling for him inevitable. Getting my heart broken inescapable.
Now the reformed bad boy is back, working as a police officer in our small town. He wants to talk, but I’m determined to keep my distance. I may still be right where he left me, but I’m not the girl I used to be. Or so I’d like to think.
However, when my ex boyfriend refuses to get the memo that we’re over, and nobody in Bluebonnet Creek believes Matthew has changed, we come to an agreement.
Three months. Weekly dates. And absolutely no kissing.
Faking it shouldn’t be hard, but the problem is, being with Matthew doesn’t feel fake at all. Then my life implodes, and he comes to my rescue.
What if my life isn’t the only thing in danger, but also my heart?

revisiting Bluebonnet Creek was honestly so comforting. i absolutely adore the small-town atmosphere Anna B. Doe created; the sense of community, the warmth, and the Williams family spirit. returning to this family dynamic, even in a heavier installment like this one, was exactly what i was looking for.
the author has a way with words that immerses me so effortlessly in the story. there’s something about her prose that keeps you engrossed in the characters, their emotions, their struggles and it’s why she’s slowly becoming one of my favorite authors.
Jessica and Matthew’s story was heartbreaking in its own way, especially knowing how many years they lost not being together. but once they finally were, there was something almost light about them too because of their bickering and that easy camaraderie that came first, before anything else. i loved that they were friends at the core before becoming something more.
Jessica was easily one of my favorite parts of the book. she’s strong, grounded, and unwavering in what she believes in. she shows up for the people in her life, and most importantly, she never settles for less.
Matthew, on the other hand, is the archetype of the tortured hero. everything he went through shaped the way he sees himself, especially in relation to Jessica: constantly believing she deserved better, that he wasn’t enough for her. but what made their dynamic so compelling was that contrast: the way he worshipped her, even while trying to convince himself she’d be better off without him. watching that shift, that realization that he was what she wanted and needed, was so satisfying.
there was also a touch of mystery distilled into the story, something i’ve come to really enjoy in Anna B. Doe’s books and in small-town romances in general. it adds that extra layer that keeps everything engaging. i did have a feeling about the culprit early on, but it didn’t take away from the experience.
overall, this was such a beautiful installment. i’m already excited for the next book in the series. i’d definitely recommend it to anyone who loves small-town romances with strong family dynamics.
many thanks to the author and The Author Agency for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review
3.5⭐️Thank you to Anne B. Doe for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’m going to be honest this book was good, but it definitely wasn’t my favorite. I’m not much for the second chance troupe vibes it was giving, with the sneak peak in the last book, I was expecting so much angst between the two, but sadly that fell short. This is only my third book by Anna B. Doe and I can’t wait to read Aaron’s story.
Bluebonnet Creek Series🤍🫂 #2 Need You To Choose Me #3 Make Me Trust Again
I love Bluebonnet Creek. This town is just full of romance, lol! And its got a little romantic suspense. Who doesn't love that?
Matthew Williams is back home. After an incident with a family memeber he decides to come back after a few years away. One person not expecting to see him? Nurse Jessica has somewhat of a past with Matthew. And to my suspicion, it was left unsettled. So... Jessica isn't exactly thrilled.
The former bad boy has a reputation to live down. He isnt the teenager he left behind. But his boss isn’t willing to see the changes in him. And Jessica is living her dream job except for the boyfriend who is treating (and speaking, I wanted to slap him!) Her like... dang horrible! You'd think if it wasn't working out he'd leave quietly. Uh, no.
So what does a guy who needs to serious up his reputation and a girl who needs her ex off her back going to do?
Pretend to date! Jessica (Trouble) isnt feeling it at first. But dang if it doesnt start to work. Welll...
Some people won't let go. Won't move on. Matthew and Jessica really have to get serious.
And don't don't even remind me that we get to see the families of the previous books!!!! I love a good update.
I really wish there was a trigger warning for a weak main character who slobbers after a guy that's treated her like trash her entire life. This girl made ONE comment about how she's "not the same," then proceeds to be the same panting B in heat every time she sees him. Newsflash: no one likes "body betrayal." We can't whine about how men are always thinking with their boy parts and then have main characters who can't wait to spread their legs for nasty guys who abandon them.

💚second chance 💚fake dating 💚small town 💚sister’s best friend 💚the one who got away
And we’re back in Bluebonnet Creek and how wonderful that is! This small town is so familiar by now that it almost feels like coming home. Oh! And the FMC’s name is Jessica and she’s amazing, thank you very much! I’m not going to point out “of course she is” but I’m not not saying 😁
Matthew is back. Jessica is still there. And the string pulling them closer is still very much alive and well. I have to say, I LOVED his nickname for her. Trouble has to be one of the best nicknames out there. Well done, Matthew, well done.
This is a fake dating with second chance vibes. I don’t need to explain how perfect this combo is. We get the yearning, the inner monologues every time faking feels too real. We get the “it was never fake” and we get all that forced proximity. But if that wasn’t enough, we also have a healthy dose of suspense in this one.
Our beloved secondary characters made me crave a few rereads. I might just need to revisit the other books in the series 💚
Five stars for this read is not enough given how much I enjoyed this book and how much I adored Jessica and Matthew! In fact, I am crowning this author the Queen of Small Town Romance. Their love story is epic!
I always love the fake dating trope and when you throw in heart pounding suspense, Right Where You Left Me is a marvelous read that had me eager to find out what was going to happen between my two new favorite characters of Bluebonnet Creek.
As always, this author continues to write engaging romances with characters that are both likable and very easy to relate to. Her characters, including Matthew and Jessica, seem so real. Matthew and Jessica’s backstories are portrayed in such a way that the reader can easily understand where each character is coming from and how that affects their approach to life and relationships. Since the beginning, I was always curious about Matthew and I was also eager to hear Jessica’s story. For the two of them to end up together is kismet!
This story is the embodiment of small town life and romance. The secondary characters are wonderful and it is also such a pleasure to see their contributions to the storyline. I love how the main secondary characters provide immeasurable advice, humor, heart-to-heart conversations, and true friendship. I would be remiss if I did not mention the levity added by the ladies book club when you never just what those old biddies are going to say. . . Or gossip about. Yet, with levity, this book has some emotional aspects and elicits all the feels. There is drama, some steam, and even a bit of a mystery that occurs throughout the pages. All in all, this book has it all!
Right Where You Left Me is a captivating read set in this author’s Bluebonnet Creek Series. While this is book 4 in the series, I do believe it can be read as a standalone. Although, I recommend reading the previous books for the ultimate Bluebonnet Creek experience and also because the entire series is so good!
I received an early versions of this manuscript. This is a voluntarily and honest review where all thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.
Alright, that was a gooder. This book definitely gave me Catherine Cal vibes with it being a romantic suspense and the twist and the reveal you were trying to guess.. I actually guessed correctly when I read this one which I was shocked by usually I don’t get the twist correct. This book balanced the suspense, the emotion, and the lightheartedness that every romance book pass. I really appreciate the way that there was Alzheimer’s representation. There is also a deeper conversation about how trauma can impact people and their decisions. Sometimes it can skew how they view people and situations, but sometimes it takes someone to hear what they’re going through and help them see through what that trauma is trying to hide. That’s exactly what these two characters did for each other. I love the small town feel when you’re at this book. You can tell the characters of have had their own books, but they’re still depth to them and information shared for those who hadn’t read their books. It felt like you were coming into the story that has already started, but it didn’t leave you Worried that you haven’t read them. Instead, it made you want to read their stories because you found out so much more while reading this book.
Small town romances with a bit of tension and a fake dating setup will always have my attention, and this one really pulled me in 💚
Matthew and Jessica have that kind of history you can feel from the start. Things were left unresolved, feelings never fully went away, and now they’re suddenly back in each other’s lives, pretending to date while everything still feels very real. I loved how natural that shift felt, like they just needed an excuse to find their way back to each other.
What surprised me most was how much I enjoyed the suspense element. It added just enough tension to keep me fully invested, especially towards the end when I genuinely didn’t want to put it down. At the same time, it still kept that soft small town feeling I love, with the familiar characters and that sense of community in the background.
Matthew being protective in a quiet, steady way and the way he shows up for her really got to me. It’s one of those stories where the emotions sneak up on you, and before you know it, you’re completely rooting for them.
𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: 4.5/5⭐️ 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬: 💚 small town romance 💚 fake dating 💚 cop x nurse 💚 romantic suspense 💚 good girl x bad boy
I love a good small town romance, but then you add in law enforcement plus fake dating. YES PLEASE 👏👏👏
It’s always a joy when I get to return to Bluebonnet Creek. Anna has a way of writing that completely hooks me and has me begging for more long after the final pages. Her characters are so real. And like the rest of the series, I shed a tear or two 😭
This was a good one to hit you in your feels, but also keep you hooked with a bit of suspense too!
I will say there was a couple loose ends that didn’t get mentioned again and I wish we could have gotten a bit of closure on that.
𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐐𝐮𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬: “I’ll always come for you, Trouble. Always.”
“From the very first day I saw you, I knew you’d be my undoing. My Trouble. And yet, I’d gladly take any repercussions if it meant being with you.”
I can’t live in a world in which you don’t exist.”

Thank you Anna for an E-ARC in exchange for my honest review!
This was my first book by Anna B. Doe and I know it won’t be my last! This was such a wild ride! From the get go I loved the romantic tension between Jessica and Matthew. I thought that Anna did a brilliant job incorporating their past with their present. It was obvious that coming back to Bluebonnet Creek was not easy for Matthew, but it said so much about his character and his love for his family. I loved the way he persevered through his grief and the way that Jessica supported him through it. Jessica was such a sweet character! As a fellow ER employee, I can empathize with her ability to help others first. At the same time, I loved the way Matthew helped her find her own voice and fight for herself. These two were just adorable and made such a perfect couple! Everything from the romantic tension, banter, humor, and suspense was just fantastic. I will definitely continue to read this series… and I can’t wait to find out who the FMC is in the next book!
Cute little small town romance. They were both crushing on each other in high school, but he ran away from town as soon as he graduated, and they hadn't spoken for four years. It was a great slow burn, but once they got intimate, it went from 0 to 100 immediately, and they did not have much meaningful communication. Would have loved to see them talk about why he left and her feelings. He tried running away again until the very end 😅
Loved the Chase/Rose/Kyle crumbs from the previous book!! And Kyle calling Chase dad??? OMG, love them!
Will I continue the series? Honestly, probably not. I don't care for the next couple, and the glimpse of them that we get made me care even less.
H: seemed like he got around in highschool/ years after until he comes back home h: her ex boyfriend was her one and only
No OW OM: ex boyfriend and hospital Co worker that is crushing on her
second chance • fake dating • small town • reformed bad boy
This one I devoured it 😩
Matthew coming back as a whole changed man had me instantly hooked. The tension between him and her from the start… you could feel all that history and heartbreak still sitting there.
The fake dating setup with the “no kissing” rule yeah… that didn’t stand a chance 💀
I loved how this wasn’t just romance either. There was growth, trust being rebuilt, and that push and pull of “can I really risk my heart again and it hit so good. Matthew being all protective and proving himself the whole time obsessed.
This gave me all the small-town, second chance feels and I was rooting for them HARD.
Back in Bluebonnet Creek where Matthew has finally returned home. Bluebonnet Creek was the place he always wanted to escape, but he has turned his life around, become a poloce officer, and is ready to stay permanently in Bluebonnet Creek. Jessica has had a crush on Matthew when they were teenagers. But she always thought he didn’t see her that way. Now, they both can use a fake boyfriend/girlfriend. For Matthew, to show people in town that he means staying around, and for Jessica, to get her ex off her back. And they set these great rules, which don’t last long of course. The tension is too high and they can’t deny that there is more than just friendship. There is also an element of suspense, that gives this story an extra edge. Just perfect for Matthew to realise that Jessica is the one he can’t live without.
“You’re my safe harbor, Jessica. You always have been.”
Ugh! Anna, you’ve done it again! What a fantastic & suspenseful small town romance! Right Where You Left me is full of tension, mystery, and romance. Jessica and Matthew’s story is definitely worth the read. I could not put this book down at all!
In this book, we follow Jessica, a nurse who just got out of a horrible relationship. Matthew, a police officer & the town’s resident bad boy, just returned after leaving for years. The two have history. Their chemistry radiates off the pages. After the two reconnect, they mutually decide to fake date. Jessica to keep her horrible ex away and Matthew to impress his horrible boss. But danger is lurking in the shadows.
I really enjoyed reading this story! I loved the characters, the suspense, and revisiting Bluebonnet Creek!
This book is perfect for readers who love: * Small Town Romance * Fake Dating * Romantic Suspense * Good Girl x Bad Boy * Cop x Nurse
Overall, this book was great. I am giving it four stars and would definitely recommend it.
I’ve absolutely loved reading Right Where You Left Me. Anna has perfectly balanced the suspense with the romance and given us another amazing read. Even though this is part of a series, it can easily be read as standalone but I highly recommend you read the others in the series. I flew through reading this, I just couldn’t out it down.
This is Matthew and Jessica’s story and I adored them together. The chemistry is palpable between them and I couldn’t get enough of their banter. I loved how grounded Jessica is and I’ve loved getting to know her more. She’s so sweet and kind but she’s got a fiesty side especially where Matthew is concerned. She’s just walked away from an abusive ex and a toxic relationship and I loved watching her growth. Matthew has come back to bluebonnet determined to show people he’s changed. I fell hard and fast for Matthew, he’s hot, charming and very protective of those he cares about no matter what it costs. He’s also trying his hardest to redeem himself.
I loved the side character’s Mae and Nico. They are hilarious together, definitely hate to love vibes going on there. I really think they deserve their own story. I also loved seeing the rest of the William’s family especially Becky and Chase. I loved how the suspense was built up, slow and very subtle until it just hits you. It was perfectly executed.
Overall a fantastic addition to the bluebonnet creek series, I cannot wait for the next one. If you love small town suspense I highly recommend.
Matthew and Jessica story has it all suspense, mystery, passion, heartache and love. This story brings you back to Bluebonnet Creek and all the great characters there. Another great addition to this series.
Jessica and Matthew have a history of sorts that left Jessica heartbroken, so when Matthew comes back to town, she promises herself to stay clear of him. Matthew ran because of the weight of guilt he carried and now being back feels strange, yet it also feels right. These two try to fight their attraction they have carried for years, but that is easier said than done. Matthew’s past haunts him still and Jessica doesn’t want to be left behind again, so can they fight the attraction long enough to get what they want out of each other or will they risk it all? I loved their story and there was a lot of suspense, heartache, and healing.
What an absolutely beautiful story! These two were meant to be together and nothing was going to stand in their way. I love it! This story has a bit of angst in it. I called it right away. Loved Matthew and Jessica!!
*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review*
Mathew and Jessica’s story took my heart and didn’t give it back til the end!!! Anna definitely delivered with this story and I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

Ranking: 4.5⭐
This book was less emotional than I expected, however, I really enjoyed Matthew & Jessica's story, I loved the direction Anna B. Doe took the plot in this book; I also think she gave a different twist to the fake dating trope, which I really liked. I LOVED reading about the Williams family again and also getting to know more of the secondary characters who stole my heart in previous books.
Jessica is a character I liked from the first time she appeared in this series: I loved her kind personality and the beautiful friendship she has with Becky & Rose, but I think what I liked most was that Anna delved much deeper into Jessica's love for her profession and how much helping others fills her heart. I also really enjoyed learning more about her life, how fun her relationship with her sisters is, and how her parents love and support her unconditionally when they find out about her relationship with Matthew, that's why I have to say I would have loved to read about this couple with the Richards family. But it wasn't all smiles and happiness for Jessy because the author gave me a complicated personal storyline due to the erratic, violent and stalkerish behavior of her ex, but what I loved most was how the author made me absolutely LOVE the suspense and mystery she wrote for this book, something I don't usually like in my romances, but in this book, it kept me intrigued and interested and gave me an unexpected and thoroughly enjoyable ending.
I was dying to read about Matthew and Anna B. Doe really surprised me. I didn't expect to read him feeling guilty about so many things in his past, especially situations beyond his control, it broke my heart to learn about his feelings after spending so much time away from his family, especially his mom, and his reasons for returning to Bluebonnett, even though he desperately wanted to get away from his hometown. I also loved reading about him living with Chase & Kyle, the way Matthew interacts with the little boy and sees the happiness in his grumpiest brother. Plus, I loved reading about his personality, how impulsive he can be when someone he loves needs him, the bad-boy reputation he has because of his rebellious past, how flirtatious he is with Jessica, and how he shows her his feelings through his actions.
Matthew & Jessica have history and Anna B. Doe shows us the most important moments of their past, which are also the most heartbreaking because Jessica has always been Matthew's refuge in his most difficult moments and when he doesn't know what to do with his feelings. When they reunite after four years of no contact, Jessica is having problems with her ex, and Matthew isn't taken seriously at his job as a police officer, so they decide to fake a relationship to help each other, AND I loved this plot because the author made me feel with the story because it feels like this two only needed an excuse to give in to their feelings, so that Matthew could be the most flirtatious, sweet, and adorable person with Jessica, and so that she could allow herself to find refuge in Matthew when she needs him.

Please, someone drop me off at Bluebonnet Creek, because at this point, the town and its tight-knit community are my quintessential, idyllic fictional small town.
I am in lust over this entire book! I love the MCs, I love their relationship, and I love how the narrative developed and progressed. There isn’t much to fault about this book (this series, really). It’s a total and complete comfort read, with just the right touch of comic relief that’ll have you unexpectedly snort-laughing out loud. When the story takes a turn and drags you into heartbreak, sympathy, and reminiscence, you know you’ve truly delved deep enough to be emotionally connected.
I hadn’t expected this series to venture towards the suspense genre just because as a whole this world feels so warm and wholesome. The suspense was introduced in the previous book (Make Me Trust Again), but it stepped up further in this storyline and hits its mark. It was heightened by the tense build-up surrounding its characters, and I, for one was here for it! The air of uncertainty and unpredictability that was constantly lingering in the background added another layer to the story that held my entire attention. It’s unputdownable and welcoming of a book hangover.
It’s told from dual POVs and well-paced. The plot was plotting and I thought it was wonderfully written. I love Doe’s writing as it’s always effortless to follow and from the very first page has the ability to transport you into the world right alongside the characters. It’s vivid and the MCs are so lovable you almost wish they weren’t fictional people.
Matthew was introduced in the first book of the series as the youngest brother of the FMC, and three books later he’s grown into quite an impressive lead character himself. He definitely gives the previous MMCs some stiff competition in the book boyfriend department. He’s also a perfect example that morally grey and villainous characters aren’t the only ones who can win over readers’ hearts. He’s hot, charming as all hell, super protective, yet has a hint of a troublemaker peeking through his personality. Oh, and did I mention that he’s hot??
But all lighthearted fun aside, he’s also a complex character with a devastating backstory that unfortunately bleeds into his present day life through hidden trauma.
Jessy, was also a minor character introduced at the beginning of the series that, to be honest, I had really paid too much attention to… until she started showing more and more of her personality. I enjoyed getting to know her story, her relationships with certain characters, and ultimately, her history with Matthew. She’s your everyday girl. One who I easily connected with, sympathised with, and ultimately the type of heroine I wanted to see her story through to the end.
Although this is fundamentally a romance story, it does contain sensitive subject matters that some readers may find disturbing or triggering to read. It raises issues such as a toxic relationship, abuse, stalking, kidnapping, SA, violence, death, and trauma. It also broaches on the toll Alzheimer’s disease has on someone as well as their family. It’s intended for readers of age.
The interactions between Matthew and Jessy whether big or small just made me perk up with interest. Their chemistry was *chef’s kiss* highly-charged entertainment! If you like playful banter with your fake dating, this one is an easy choice for next read. If you also like a little plot twist—that you may or may not see coming, yet don’t care and still find the story gripping, then double win!
I don’t handle the slow-burn trope all too well, unless it’s done right where there’s an unmistakable slow burn but at the same time, not overly anticipated either because the MCs are still giving zingy interactions. The slow burn between Matthew and Jessy? Phew-wee! Spicy, amusing, and just enough teasing to get you through until the actual romance aspect begins. But I must say, their heart-to-hearts are equally page-turning. Seeing them navigate through their feelings beyond their initial fake-dating agreement hit me with happy feels.
The genuine and relatable familial dynamics from both MCs, the banter amongst friends, and getting to see old characters again are all noteworthy highlights. But the secondary romantic subplot playing out simultaneously with the main storyline is probably the most notable highlight for me besides the MCs’ relationship. I could not get enough of these two particular characters and the sparks that would fly whenever they were in the vicinity of each other. I never in a million years would’ve guessed that they would ever be romantically linked, and now I’m obsessed!
This is a standalone in an interconnected series set in the same small town with the same cast of characters. For a fuller reading experience, I recommend reading in publishing order. But not necessary and is still highly enjoyable without having read any of the previous books first.
All in all, it’s another solid, high-quality addition to the series. I loved how organic everything unfolded, and by the end I wanted to return to the beginning to read it all over again. This book was serving romance of the utmost swooniest of levels. It’s feel-good, smile-inducing, and leaves you sighing with happy contentment.
Right Where You Left Me by Anna B Doe is book four in her Bluebonnet Creek series. We return to the small town for the fake dating romance between rookie cop Matthew Williams and nurse Jessica Richards. It is a slow burn, second chance story with some suspense. He didn’t expect her to find her still there and she didn’t expect him to ever come back. Can the troublemaker and the good girl make it this time around. What happens when fake becomes very real.
The youngest Williams sibling is back home after four years away and he certainly stirs things up with his return. He has become a police officer and when his sister Becky called about his brother Chase being injured, he immediately asked for a transfer. However, his reputation as a bad boy follows him which doesn’t make his life easy.
Jessica Richards is working hard as a ER nurse and volunteering in the care home. She is such a kind and caring person but her boyfriend doesn’t appreciate her. Damien belittles her, is disrespectful and their relationship is all about what he wants. He isn’t impressed when she finishes with him and starts to make her life difficult by trying to get her back. He really was an unlikeable character who didn’t take the hints to leave her alone.
She is shocked when she bumps into Matthew as had no idea he was back. They were friends their senior year of high school before he suddenly left after graduation. They haven’t seen or spoken to each other since. He broke her heart as didn’t give her an explanation or say goodbye so she isn’t happy to see him. She’s also annoyed because he’s so handsome now and she realises she is still attracted to him. He can’t believe Jessica is still in town. To him she was out of his league, he didn’t deserve her and ultimately the one who got away.
His partner Nico suggests he dates a local woman to show he is committed to the town. Matthew is furious he has to prove himself and show he’s staying but hearing Jessica is having problems he comes up with an idea to help them both out. They agree to fake date for three months to get Damien off her back and Sheriff Jenkins off his. Can they convince everyone he has changed from the terror he was as a teenager and make them believe a woman like her would date him. He thinks she hates him so worries it won’t work but luckily the chemistry is still there between them. There is a hilarious nappy change scene and I loved her reaction at seeing him shirtless.
Things aren’t as easy as they thought because his Sheriff still isn’t convinced about him and Damien won’t leave her alone. Having his “Trouble” back in his life brings back memories and feelings which confuse him. He left to escape his past and thought his family was better off without him because he blames himself for an event five years ago. I felt sad that he has never recovered from that trauma, is still grieving and has regrets over missing time with his mother. His mother has early on-set Alzheimer’s and the author writes her struggles and the family reactions and feelings to her situation really well.
Jessica was very good at keeping him calm when things start to escalate but is worried that he will get hurt protecting her after a series of events. Jessica still feels such a pull to him but can she persuade him that he is the right man for her. She has always seen the real Matthew and not the one he portrays to everyone else. She realises she loves him and is determined to fight for him but worries he doesn’t feel the same especially when he has to face another trauma. Was it really all fake between them. Will he ever forgive himself and accept her love.
It was great seeing how well Becky, Miguel and Jagger, Emmett and Kate, Chase, Rose and Kyle were all doing, plus Duke was amazing. Loved Nico and Mae as they fight their feelings but support their friends and bring a lot of humour to the story. I enjoyed Matthew and Jessica’s relationship becoming more real than fake but the suspense side of the story was very predictable for me. For much of the book I was just waiting as you knew something frightening was going to happen. Sadly I guessed the main twist early on but how it all came together for the conclusion was still interesting.
I loved reading every book in this series, but Jessica and Matthew’s story was one of my favorites. Jessica was a likable character in the previous books, and I always enjoy second-chance romances, so I was excited to read her story with Matthew after reading some glimpses of their past.
Jessica and Matthew had known each other in high school when he asked her to tutor him. They became friends, but after Matthew turned eighteen, he left town and never reached out again. Jessica used to work with Becky, Matthew’s older sister, and her friend, but now she was working as a nurse. She was surprised to see Matthew back in town, but she was still hurt by his past actions, so she tried to avoid him. Her boyfriend had always been controlling in the previous books, so in this story, she finally had enough and decided to end things. He still tried to contact her, and thanks to her friend’s advice, she told him she was dating someone else.
Matthew left Bluebonnet Creek after finishing high school because he thought everyone was better off without him. He always carried the guilt of his father’s death and how his mother’s mental health started to decline. I really liked reading how Jessica was the only one who could see his true self. While he was away, he became a cop, but after his brother got hurt, he decided to return home to protect the people he loved. The town sheriff never liked him, so his colleague suggested that he should show people he had changed. That’s why he asked Jessica to be his fake girlfriend, since she also needed to prove to her ex that she had moved on. Jessica was hesitant at first because of their past, but in the end, she agreed.
Jessica was no longer the same girl she had been at seventeen, so she believed she couldn’t fall for Matthew again. Even though she tried to act indifferent, it was nice to read their interactions and how she couldn’t deny her attraction to him. Even if their relationship started as fake, I liked how Jessica still cared when Matthew was hurt and how she always knew when he needed someone. Their relationship slowly began to change with their flirting, and after an altercation with Jessica’s ex, the tension between them finally broke, and they acted on their feelings. Shortly after, they had a disagreement, but after an incident at Jessica’s house, Matthew rushed to her and took her to his home.
Matthew was determined to protect Jessica, and it was nice to read how safe she felt with him. He was always there for her, and their chemistry never vanished. Their steamy scenes were enjoyable to read, and I liked seeing how their relationship developed. Everything seemed fine until Matthew got suspended, and he decided to leave for a while, not knowing his life was about to change. He became distant, and even though he tried to distract himself with Jessica, he still pushed her away. I liked that Jessica didn’t give up on him, even when he tried to end things.
Jessica didn’t have time to process their fight before she came face-to-face with the person responsible for the notes and flowers she had been receiving. She was shocked by the discovery, but she trusted that Matthew would find her, and she used everything he had taught her to defend herself. Matthew regretted pushing her away as soon as she left, and after learning the truth about the case, he did everything he could to find her. He got help, and although Jessica was hurt, she finally knew that everything bad was over.
Matthew still believed everything had been his fault, but I liked how he was honest with Jessica about his fears and how he finally confessed his love for her. It was nice to see them get their happy ending after everything they went through, and how Matthew realized Jessica was his future.
Their story was captivating from the beginning. I also enjoyed the interactions between Jessica and her friends, as well as Matthew’s moments with his siblings after everything they had lost. It was great to see the previous couples again and learn more about their futures.
I’m excited to read the last book in the series after the glimpse we got in this one, and I can’t wait to read more about the Fernandez family and see how Aaron finally gets his happy ending.

⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
When Matthew Williams returns to Bluebonnet Creek four years after leaving in a hurry, Jessica Richards is not pleased to see him. She's working hard as a nurse, volunteering at the local care home, and going through drama with her awful ex, and doesn't have time for him. Meanwhile, he's joined the police force, and the Sheriff is riding his backside hard when a coworker says he needs to show his commitment to Bluebonnet by finding a local woman to date. Matthew sees an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone - get the Sheriff off his back and get Jessica's ex to leave her alone - so he negotiates a fake dating plan. Jessica eventually agrees. But as their plan continues, neither of those things seem to be happening. Are things as fake as they seem? How safe is Jessica? And will the Sheriff ever give Matthew a chance?
I absolutely loved this book! Anna B. Doe is an incredible small-town romance author, and this latest instalment in her Bluebonnet Creek series is another smash for me. In a town where everyone knows everyone's business, the return of Matthew Williams causes an instant stir. The youngest of the Williams siblings (if you've read any of this series, you'll have met Becky and Chase), he fled four years ago out of nowhere, breaking Jessica Richards' heart. His reasons for it are heartbreaking - as a reader you'll forgive him pretty quickly, but you can understand why she's mad, especially as he doesn't tell her when he arrives back. He has matured in his time away, joining the local police force as a Rookie, and he slowly slots back into family life, despite his unresolved issues gnawing away at him. When it comes to Jessica, his "Trouble", he is already a lost man. She doesn't make it easy for him, but the suspense part of the story means his protective instincts kick in. Touch her and ☠️ is here in spades, despite his job! I loved Matthew's character - he feels so deeply, but it doesn't always manifest how he means it to. He is quick to anger, and quick to beat himself up, but he loves fiercely - be it Jessica or his family.
Jessica is an all round golden girl. She cares deeply about people, which is shown in the work she does as a nurse, often putting in extra hours or pulling extra shifts. She also volunteers at the home where a member of Matthew's family resides. She has just broken up with d-bag Damien when Matthew returns, and is dealing with his appalling behaviour when she comes face-to-face with someone she thought she had gotten over. She is furious with him, but irresistibly attracted to him, and her good girl persona shows again when she is unable to lie to him without stammering - which was incredibly endearing. She agrees to fake date with every intention of sticking to it, but when it becomes clear that she's being targeted, her instinct to be near Matthew dulls those intentions. Her love for her community - her family, her friends, her kindness to strangers are so important to this story, and it was a joy to see the development of her character as well as the development of her relationship with Matthew.
The supporting cast (many of whom you will have met before if you've read any of this series) are excellent, bringing humour, lightness, joy, sadness and darkness in a multitude of ways. The suspense aspect of this novel is written brilliantly, leading to a third act that is breathtaking in its drama and danger. My only small gripe with this book is the lack of on page comeuppance for a certain character, who assisted the villain of the piece and needed to be dragged over hot coals! That is truly the only reason I haven't given the full five stars. With that, it would have been a perfect novel.
Right Where You Left Me is a beautiful small-town romance which delivers a beautiful love story, a fantastic ensemble cast (with hints at the stories to come from this series), gorgeous family connections, a strong suspense storyline with a super dramatic conclusion, the processing of grief and trauma, and a dash of spice that perfectly suits the characters taking part. It's another smash for Anna B. Doe, and I can't wait for the next one!
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to review this book!
4 stars!! Title the same as an iconic TS song?? Ok sign me up. I love a good suspenseful romance and this did the trick. Could I predict the bad guy? Yes. Was I still hooked about how it was all gonna go down? Also yes.

———————————— Spoilers
Would’ve loved if the girl wasn’t kinda a damsel in distress, looking for a guy to help her. But I get the plot line. I wish we saw more with Jessica and Matthew’s past and how their connection was in high school. I also wish they talked a bit more on Matthew and everything with his mom. Ik they said he’s in therapy but that felt like a bit of a loose end. And also I’m dying for more about Mae and Nico of course!!!!
For one year, Matthew was the center of my world. When we were together, my chest felt tight, and the way those dark eyes fixed on me occasionally didn't make it any easier to breathe. When our fingers touched, it was as if I'd been zapped by electricity. It made me feel alive. He made me feel alive.
“I might still be right where you left me, but I'm not the girl I used to be."
Because while she might be right where I left her, to me, she'll always be the one who got away.
"You did what you had to. So what if you froze for a moment? We're only human, Matthew. We're allowed to be affected by the disasters we face. We're allowed to feel. Feel the pain, the terror, the desperation, the fear. If we don't, if we lose that sliver of humanity, we'll turn into machines. Feeling is what makes us good at this job. Feeling is what makes us push harder when everything else feels hopeless. It doesn't make you weak." (As someone in healthcare… YES)
I nod, that uneasy feeling settling down. That's always how she affected me. The calm in my storm.
Undoing. She's my fucking undoing. The only one who could ever bring me to my knees.
"Because you went through a lot, and—" "And I want to feel alive. You make me feel alive." "Trouble.." He closes his eyes, almost like he's in pain. "I'm in so much fucking trouble." "Matthew?" "From the very first day I saw you, I knew you'd be my undoing. My Trouble. And yet, I'd gladly take any repercussions if it meant being with you." Trouble. Not because he wanted me to be a bad girl, but because I was his undoing. His Trouble. "You have always been my undoing”
"Twenty-two." "What?" “Twenty-two freckles. Just like the last time."
"You good? No regrets?" "I could never regret you."
"No." "Yes." "No, Matthew. I'm a nurse, not a fighter." "And you don't have to be. I need you to be a survivor."
“…I've loved you since that day you walked into my life when you were seventeen, like a fucking angel, and I've fallen for you all over again since coming back. I didn't deserve you then, and I sure as hell don't deserve you now, but I don't care. I love you…” "Say it again." "I. Love. You. And if you'll have me, I'll keep running to you. You're my safe harbor, Jessica. You always have been.”
"Go to sleep, Trouble." "Don't leave. Promise me." "I promise. I'll be here when you wake up. Right where you left me."
Author Anna B. Doe is back with another release from herBluebonnet Creekseries. Book 4Right Where You Left Mehas us following Matthew James Williams; the youngest Williams sibling with eldest sibling Chase William from book 3Make Me Trust Againand middle sibling Becky Williams from book 1It Should Have Been Us. And FMCJessica ‘Jessy’ Richards in this Fake Dating, Second Chance, Slow Burn, Small Town Romance through their dual POVs.
Although their story may have started as Fake Dating, it didn’t stay like that for long for Matthew and Jessica. From the undeniable chemistry to their banter, it was only a matter of time before their fake relationship started to feel real, given the emotional pull that brought them closer together. Something author Anna showcased through a Slow Burn journey. Building upon rising tensions, chemistry from the emotions and feelings Matthew and Jessica faced and tried to deal with. Simultaneously alongside the personal matters that were affecting them individually. Which in turn affected them when they came together, especially in the early stages of their Fake Dating relationship. There was no denying they were meant to be together, even more so from the connection they once had in their shared past, that was opened up about along the way through flashbacks.
Following the storyline journey made for a good read. Being able to get to know both of the characters individually through the development Anna showcased within their POV chapters. While building upon the story development that bought forth subplots too, since there was a lot more to the story than meets the eye. Some of which hit hard from the emotional side, due to the aftermath of it all and how it affected not only Matthew and Jessica. But also secondary characters, who were in the form of their friends and family, given the connections they shared within the subplots.
One thing that was unexpected was the plot twist author Anna threw in, having caught me off guard. But at the same time, despite the subplot being built from the ground up, I can’t deny it did feel a little random, not just from the placement of when it was introduced and then grew on from there. More so in my honest opinion feeling like it didn’t really fit with the storyline overall, making me disliking it in not being a fan. Even though it did bring tension, suspense, specifically romantic suspense, from having you waiting in wonder of how it would all end.
Something that surprised me was the narrative towards the end. It gave me a sense of deja vu from the similarities it shared with Chase and Rose’s story, given what and how things went down being of a similar manner.
All in all,Right Where You Left Memade for an emotional Second Chance Romance, seeing Matthew and Jessica find their way back to each other through quite the journey given the twists along the way. Resulting in an another enjoyable read overall fromBluebonnet Creekseries by author Anna B. Doe. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the next book with Aaron Fernandez story’s,Never Saw You Coming.
*I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I received an ARC of this book, all thoughts are my own.
Returning to Bluebonnet Creek feels like coming home. It's familiar, warm and instantly comforting. Right Where You Left Me blends heartfelt emotion, romance and a thread of suspense into a story that’s both engaging and deeply satisfying. Anna has a talent for pulling readers in emotionally, and this book makes it impossible not to get invested.
One of the standout elements is the sense of community. The family dynamics feel authentic and relatable, the friendships are filled with sharp, natural banter, and revisiting familiar faces from earlier books adds an extra layer of charm. But what I didn't expect was the secondary romance unfolding alongside the main story. The chemistry between those two characters is electric and completely unexpected. It’s the kind of pairing you never see coming but quickly become obsessed with.
Although this is part of an interconnected series, it works perfectly well as a standalone. That said, reading the books in order gives you a richer appreciation for the town and its people. At its core, this story balances romance with heavier themes like grief, guilt and the challenge of confronting the past in order to move forward. Jessica is kind and compassionate, but her journey toward finding her strength and standing up for herself is especially rewarding. Matthew, on the other hand, is forced to face his past mistakes and the weight of his guilt, learning that growth means accepting both responsibility and the unwavering support of those who love him.
Their relationship is everything you want in a slow-burn romance: sharp banter, lingering tension and a “fake dating” setup that gradually turns into something undeniably real. The emotional payoff is worth every moment, delivering plenty of swoon-worthy scenes that hit just right. And then there’s the suspense. It starts quietly, with subtle hints that something isn’t quite right, but steadily intensifies until the tension becomes impossible to ignore. That rising sense of unease adds another layer of depth, making the story even more compelling.
Overall, this is another strong addition to the series. It’s heartfelt, addictive and filled with moments that will make you smile, swoon, and maybe even hold your breath. By the end, it leaves you with that warm, contented feeling and the urge to dive right back in and experience it all over again.
⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 Read this book for: 🚔 Good Girl x Bad Boy 🩺 Cop MMC x Nurse FMC 🚔 Fake Dating 🩺 Romantic Suspense 🚔 She Falls First, He Falls Harder 🩺 Small Town
Synopsis Matthew Williams was the kind of boy mothers warned their daughters about, dark-haired, stormy-eyed, and impossible to resist. I fell for him when we were young, and he left me with scars deeper than heartbreak. Now he’s back in Bluebonnet Creek, no longer the reckless bad boy but a small-town cop determined to prove he’s changed. When my persistent ex won’t leave me alone and the town refuses to trust Matthew, we strike a deal: fake date for three months, no strings, and definitely no kissing. But as pretend begins to feel dangerously real, old wounds reopen, new threats emerge, and I’m forced to wonder if trusting Matthew again could save me…or destroy me for good.
My Thoughts This was my first book by Anna B. Doe, and it’s actually the fourth book in the Bluebonnet Creek series. You can read it as a standalone, but I would really recommend reading the series in order. I sometimes struggled a bit with side characters because there isn’t much background, so it was a little hard to figure out how everyone was connected, like Mrs Fernandez and Mrs Timothy.
But overall, I would definitely recommend this book! It gave me Catherine Cowles vibes, which I loved. The only difference for me was that the plot twist was a bit easier to guess, while Catherine Cowles’ twists usually catch me completely off guard.
I really enjoyed Matthew and Jessica’s story. Their connection felt natural and easy, and I loved seeing them together. I do wish we got a bit more clarity about what happened between them in the past, because it felt a little unclear at times.
Matthew honestly deserved so much better. He was seen as the “bad boy” because of his rebellious phase, but even after being gone for years, people still judged him for it. I mean… haven’t we all had a rebellious moment in high school?
With everything Jessica is dealing with, especially her persistent ex, and all the loss Matthew has gone through, I was so happy they found their way back to each other. They really deserved their happy ending. Even though I guessed the plot twist, the suspense still had me hooked!
And the small-town vibes? So good. I loved Matthew’s family so much, and I can’t wait to read more about them in the previous books of the Bluebonnet Creek Series.
4.5⭐️ I really enjoyed this book. It was full of funny moments where you couldn’t help but laugh. But has some emotional and exciting moments. It’s very easy to read and the pacing was steady. I really enjoyed the found family and small town vibe the book was giving, but it also gave us suspense and a bit of mystery. It’s a very beautiful journey about moving on from the past and taking back power and becoming stronger. And the ending was perfect.
I enjoyed Jessica’s character, she is so sweet and loves to help people but she also has a feisty side, especially where Matthew is involved. Their banter was so entertaining. She sees Matthew for who he is and behind the mask he puts on for the rest of the town. She is the only person who can calm him down. She has a lot going on but she also won’t back down from fighting for what she wants.
I loved Matthew, he has a past that unfortunately makes it very difficult to be back in town but he is determined to show everyone he has changed. One of his favourite things is teasing her and making her blush. He is fiercely protective and will do anything to protect Jessica. They both love to help the ones they care about no matter what it costs them. I also really enjoyed the cop x nurse storyline, it definitely gave me what I was looking for when reading a cop romance. I also loved that he calls her trouble and why he does.
Jessica has just broken up with her horrible ex who just won’t take no for an answer while Matthew is struggling trying to get people to take him seriously that he has changed and is there to stay. They both believe that dating someone will be able to fix both of their problems so they agree to a fake relationship for a few months. But what happens when past moments and feelings come back? What happens when suddenly threats are happening? Will they be able to survive when her life implodes and her life is in danger?
If you’re looking for a slow burn small town romance with a cop x nurse, fake dating, romantic suspense, she falls first but he falls harder, she is his safe space and touch her and die vibes then I think you will love this book. I’m very excited to continue on in the series, especially Make Me Trust Again. You can read these books out of order, which is what I’ve done but I would say it’s better to read them in order.
I can never resist a good fake dating story, and Right Where You Left Me delivers the perfect blend of romance and suspense that keeps readers hooked from the very first page. I devoured the pages eagerly, unable to put the book down as I became completely absorbed in the unfolding events and deeply invested in my new favourite Bluebonnet Creek couple. The chemistry between the characters is electric, and the emotional depth the author brings to their relationship made the story truly unforgettable.
This author consistently creates relatable characters who feel authentic and multi-dimensional, and Matthew and Jessica are no different in this beautifully crafted novel. They feel so genuine, with richly developed backstories that truly shape how they view the world—and each other—in meaningful ways. From the very beginning, I was drawn to Matthew’s quiet strength and vulnerability, and Jessica’s courageous journey captivated me just as much. Watching their connection grow and evolve throughout the story felt completely natural and incredibly satisfying, as if I were witnessing a real-life romance unfold before my eyes.
The suspense woven into the narrative kept me thoroughly engaged, especially toward the dramatic climax near the end when I honestly couldn’t put the book down for even a moment. Yet, despite the tension and twists, the story never lost the cosy small-town atmosphere that I so deeply adore, with its familiar landmarks and a tight-knit community that adds warmth and charm to every chapter.
Matthew’s quiet protectiveness and unwavering support for Jessica completely won me over, making him an unforgettable hero who feels both strong and tender at once. The emotions this story evokes sneak up on you subtly but powerfully, and before you even realise it, you’re fully invested in their journey and rooting passionately for their happy ending that feels more than deserved. Overall, Right Where You Left Me is a captivating read that expertly balances romance, suspense, and heartfelt moments, leaving you with a warm glow long after you turn the last page.
