When Cassandra, Pamela, and Bláithín first crossed paths in an Ibiza hospital, they never expected to become the chosen Crones of the goddess Tanit. But even in paradise, nothing is as easy as it seems, and now, with their lives entwined and the goddess still whispering in unexpected ways, the women must navigate new loves, old wounds, and unforeseen challenges. As secrets surface, and their new lives take shape, the three Crones discover that “second chances” aren’t always what they seem—and sometimes, starting over comes at a price.
A warm, witty blend of women’s fiction and magical realism, The Ibiza Crone Second Chances is perfect for fans of stories about friendship, middle-aged reinvention, and self-discovery, as well as book club reads that spark conversation. Step back onto the White Isle, join the club… and let Tanit’s magic guide you.
Even at this age, I still half hope/expect to find a magic lamp or save a magical creature and be given three wishes. My first series Shared Skies and now The Ibiza Crone Club are both informed by this feeling that magic, other worlds, or mystical powers are just an invisible fingertip away. I am an Irish writer, artist, and teacher. Married with five children and a growing number of grandchildren, I move between Ireland, Scotland, Spain, and Ibiza.
I started Second Chances, The Ibiza Crone Club, Book 2 imagining that it was not my cup of tea. It seemed like it might be a little too steeped in myth, magic, and romance for my taste. I was delighted to find I couldn't put it down. It was a fun read, with interesting characters and great messages about the strength of women, sisterhood, friendship, and love. I found myself rooting for Cassandra, Bláithín, and Pamela as they explored their individual and joint second chances and reinvented themselves. I also liked the side stories with their lovers, relatives, and friends (especially Moira). I didn't mind that they overcame challenges a little too neatly nor that so many of the solutions were attributed to the Ibizan goddess Tanit, although the fact that so many of the problems were tied up so neatly begged belief and that's why this was a 4 star review for me rather than a 5 star review. The story was like an idyllic vacation in a beautiful place like Ibiza, so I let myself go along for the ride. At the end I wished I could find a group of friends and follow in the steps of the Ibiza Crone Club women. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily and all opinions are my own. This book is a perfect beach read or a curl up in a cozy chair with a blanket kind of read. My thanks to the BookSirens and Josephine O’Brien for the eARC of this fun story.
3.5 Read it as an ARC on BookSirens. It's a good read, a fun, feel-good, fast read, but it is slow in starting up. It is a decent novel, but it did not live up to its really crazy fun cover. What I really enjoyed : Snippets on Phoenician Godess Tanit Descriptions of some fun art The cover design
