A former athlete on the rebound, a practical woman, and a fake relationship to best a pesky matchmaking mother at her own game.
Mackenzie Look, I might not believe in mushy everlasting love, but I’m all in when it comes to casual fun, which is why I see green flags the moment I meet Cal Davis. He’s just the type of man I like. On the rebound. Can’t commit to marriage. Yes, please!
Except for the fact that Mom, the world’s biggest meddling matchmaker, warns me away from him.
I suspect she’s using reverse psychology and preparing to launch yet another attack on my single-hood. Only this time, I’m playing her game my way—a fake relationship to end her matchmaking schemes. Forever.
Cal Hey, I’m a former ball player, so I’m not afraid of Mackenzie’s game. Especially when it comes to the fun part. I suck at relationships anyway.
But do I really want to get in the middle of this mother-daughter power play?
Risky. But it’s impossible to tell Mackenzie no. That should scare me more than it does.

I can't wait to share Mackenzie and Cal's story! Get ready for fake relationship shenanigans between a former ball player and a practical woman determined to thwart her pesky matchmaking mother's plans.
This fake dating romance had me giggling and kicking my feet. Cal who is getting out of a live-in relationship is new in town. He’s a lawyer trying to make a name for himself in Clover Park. Mackenzie is a Clover Park local just looking to live her life. No man. No problem is her motto. Too bad her matchmaking mom won’t let her live it. To through her mom off, she asks Cal to be her fake boyfriend. Things don’t turn out the way she plans when she starts catching feelings.
I caught myself smiling while reading this story. The predicaments that Mackenzie found herself in had me dying. And the chemistry between Cal and Mackenzie jumped off the page. Had me wanting more. This is one of those books you pick up to escape a stressful day.
Kylie is so back, and she brings you this amazing romance story between Mackenzie and Cal! You will fall in love with these two characters, all while catching glimpses of characters from past books! A 5 star Happy Endings winner here! Mackenzie is attending an engagement party, and is weary of her mother and her matchmaking ways! When she meets the new guy in town, Cal, a lawyer whose moved to Clover Park to take over a law practice. He's hot, but her mother warns her away from him, telling her he is fresh off a break up, that day, and he's not the settling down type! She's wondering if her mom is up to something, but she can't resist this hottie! She asks him to dance, and then her mom asks her and her cousin to drop off the catering pans, but Mackenzie has Cal to help her, and she brings him along and asks for just one night! Unfortunately it's not going to be so easy for just that night where these two are involved! Cal was tired of working in the rat race of corporate law. He moved to Clover Park to slow his life down and try to enjoy it. He has had his share of pain, losing his mom to cancer, then his girlfriend the following year. He has made a vow to never end up lost like his dad after his mom passed away, and he's stuck to it, that is until he meets Mackenzie, and he starts feeling things he swore he would never let happen again. This story was so good! You don't want to miss out on it! I loved it so much, I didn't want to put it down! Grab it NOW!
The Fun Part by Kylie Gilmore, book four in her Clover Park series, is Mackenzie and Cal’s fun, complicated, fake relationship that becomes so much more. Meeting at a Clover Park get-together, neither Mackenzie nor Cal were looking for a commitment. Only it seems that once these two meet, sparks fly as they are immediately attracted to each other. What started as a fake relationship to fool Mackenzie's matchmaking mom, quickly becomes a friends with benefits situation. When feelings get involved, Mackenzie gets cold feet, pushing Cal away, but Cal is determined to win her over. Between family obligations, and dealing with a grief he has buried, Cal has to open himself up to his feelings for Mackenzie before these two can find their HEA.
It’s fun to return to Clover Park and revisit the second generation of some of my favorite characters from the Happy Endings book club. Mackenzie and Cal's story stands on its own with their witty banter, instant attraction, and that he fell first despite not knowing quite what to do with his feelings. The townspeople and meddling family and friends added additional fun layers to the story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. #TheFunPart # HappyEndingsinCloverPark #KylieGilmore
Kylie Gilmore is BACK and I am here for it! I've been eagerly waiting for more from this series, as I've loved catching up with the now grown up kids of original favorite characters. The Fun Part did NOT disappoint! I love reading books that will make me ugly cry, but with the heavy weight of the world, the lightheartedness of The Fun Part was just what I needed! Mackenzie and Cal are well rounded characters who have their flaws, but they grow as the story progresses. I didn't now what we were going to get with these two stubborn souls next. There was a part, a scene with Mackenzie and her mom, that really hit me in the feels, to the point I cried a lot, but that's due to a personal demon I'm struggling with and it was so unexpected. I'm glad that scene happened, though, and that it was good closure for Mackenzie, who showed some struggles during this story.
As always, we got a recap of some of the other characters we've come to know and love, and hints about future stories. I'm ready for the next one!
WOW! Loved it!! I was so excited to read Mackenzie and Cal’s story in The Fun Part. It was a page turner that I could not put down. I enjoy Kylie Gilmore writing style as she uses humor and throws a few twists into the story. Her characters are captivating and believable that you really care about them and hope they get a HEA. When Mackenzie feels her mom Hailey is using reverse psychology by telling her Cal is not the relationship type that she should stay away from him. Mackenzie set about to prove her mom is playing matchmaker. You will love all the twists, turns, sexual tension and conflicts between Cal and Mackenzie. It was wonderful catching up with the characters of the Happy Ending Book Cub Series and their children that were woven throughout the Mackenzie and Cal’s story. I highly recommend reading The Fun Part and you will enjoy reading this book. I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
If you're craving a rom-com that delivers snappy banter, sizzling chemistry, and a fake relationship that feels anything but fake, The Fun Part is your next must-read.
Mackenzie is a fiercely independent woman with zero interest in being set up, and Cal is a charming ex-athlete trying to dodge his own romantic drama. Their solution? Pretend to date. What follows is a hilarious and heartwarming journey filled with laugh-out-loud moments, steamy tension, and a slow-burn romance that sneaks up on you in the best way.
The banter is the real MVP here. Mackenzie and Cal’s verbal sparring is sharp, flirty, and endlessly entertaining. Every scene crackles with energy, making their emotional connection feel authentic and earned.
Small Town and Wonderful Characters and Story Really Do Make Big Fun!
I loved going back to Clover Park and revisiting the second generation of some of my favorite characters. That said, Mackenzie and Cal's story stands on its own as both are well developed characters with their own stories to tell. I loved their witty banter, instant attraction, and that he fell first despite his not knowing quite what to do with his feelings. The townspeople and meddling family and friends added additional fun layers to the story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series - Enjoy!
I was sent an ARC by the author and I am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
It’s another unputdownable book from Kylie Gilmore! I can’t have enough of the Clover Park residents. This series is about the kids from the original Happy Endings Book Club series, which is my favorite of all times. The characters are very well constructed and the story never loses it’s rhythm and pace. The main love story is both emotional and fun. Their personalities and relationship with one another are coherent and logical as well with their relatives and friends. A 5⭐️ romcom at its best, no doubt about it!
Mackenzie and Cal's story is fun and complicated. These two are both not looking for a commitment but they both fall hard and fast, even if they won't acknowledge their feelings. It is always fun to visit Clover Park and check in with some favourite friends. Mackenzie's mum, Hailey, is the biggest matchmaker and she denies that she is pushing these two together but she is telling the truth. The Happy Endings book club still plays a part in helping the couples in Clover Park find their HEA.
The Fun Part is an outstanding fake relationship love story that will have you swooning!! Revisit Clover Park years later and meet our favourite residence children all grown up!! I absolutely loved Hailey and Josh's daughter Mackenzie!! After many failed attempts of match making from her mother, when she is introduced her to the new lawyer in town Cal, she had a hard time resisting him!! Loved the push and pull of this relationship and you will love all the steamy love scenes!! I can't help but fall in love with all the new couples and can't help but root for their HEA!!
What starts as a fake relationship to fool Mackenzie's matchmaking mom, quickly becomes a friends with benefits situation. Cal and Mackenzie are attracted to each other at first sight, and let that attraction lead their relationship. When feelings get involved, Mackenzie gets cold feet, pushing Cal away, but Cal is determined to win her over, but between family obligations, and dealing with grief that he has buried, Cal has to open himself up to his feelings for Mackenzie. Their journey is more than just the Fun Part. I thoroughly enjoyed "The Fun Part", and cannot wait to see what Kylie comes up with next.
We’re back in Clover Park with another amazing read. This is Mackenzie and Cal’s story. It will completely captivate you from start to finish as it gives you all the feels. I loved the banter, the connections and the sizzling chemistry. I loved reading more of our favorite characters. It’s a fun, heartwarming, and engaging story. Looking forward to reading more.
It's a lot of fun being back in Clover Park and visit with previous characters. Mackenzie and Cal have immediate chemistry, but neither of them wants a serious relationship. In fact, they talk about that so much that it was a bit hard to believe them when they finally announced they loved each other. Still, there were lots of funny moments and lots of good secondary characters.
It's all fun and games until someone loses their heart. Gilmore brings all the feels to an adorably sweet heartbreaker. The Fun Part is sassy heartache mixed with addictive romance. From flirty to funny, Cal and Mackenzie are an endearing bundle of delight.
Mackenzie needs a fake relationship to keep her mother at bay. Cal is happy to oblige because he is not interested in commitment either. Both have issues to face and overcome before they can truly commit to a real relationship. A Fun read.
What happens when two people (Mackenzie and Cal) want no strings attached but her mom is a meddling matchmaker? Shenanigans in Clover Park! A FUN book in the series. It was great coming back.
