Her drug classification is Poison, being the only one. No one is brave enough to take on what she does. Turning her body into pleasure art, working to keep her son safe, and hiding her real name. She never knew she was being watched. Another had their eye on her, someone just as dangerous—the new owner in charge. What starts as a deadly game of cat and mouse turns into a turbulent series of events none foresaw. It's a fight to the finish to keep what he wants to claim, struggling through emotions and past pain.
It's a rollercoaster ride of anger and euphoria, guns and...the chauffeur? What is he doing there?
Let's start with how spicy this book is. Phew. So good.
The FMC goes through so much trauma and you get to see her growth. She becomes this queen who won't take 💩 from anybody.
When I say TRAUMA, this woman went through it all by herself.
She's running away from a life she didn't know would be toxic. Didn't know how much would be taken from her.
When she runs, she feels free, and in control of her own life. However, always looking over her shoulder, never resting.
In walks the MMC, who brings his 💩 to the table. His own past. They are both dominating and you see the push and pull between the two.
She escaped from one Mafia to another.
This book starts with details and a slower pace to get you into the story. Then a little over halfway through it becomes fast-paced.
What I didn’t expect was the emotions. I cried. CRIED. I was not warned of potential crying and any emotional damage that I may suffer. I read the trigger warnings and was like, yess. Dark. Yes. Spice. The trauma, the drama, the secrets, the violence. It all checks off my likes in a Dark Romance.
Don't get me wrong. I absolutely loved the book. But dang, I didn't expect emotions like that. Which, honestly, just makes her writing so much better because a lot of stuff that happens was not something I expected.
If Dark Romance, Mafia, FMM, trauma, secrets, lies, running, hiding, violence, sooo much more darkness is your thing then yes. Yes, this book is 100% for you
Poison is a dark mafia romance with trauma, violence and spice and lots of it! 🥵🥵 Grace was an amazing mom and loved how she did whatever she had to to provide and be there for him. Why did you make me cry so much?? But that ending made up for it😉
This book was a complex but enthralling read. The main characters are deeply flawed and the way that they heal each other is toxic but somehow attractive (this book inspired a moral change).
I have a love-hate relationship with the FMC, Grace. I admire her resilience and her devotion to being an amazing mom to her son despite having deadbeat parents. I sympathized with the dark and abusive chapter in her life but the way she acted with the MMC and crashing out to the point of harming herself was insane to me. But I appreciated Emily B. Rose's PTSD representation.
The MMC, Benny, was flawed but made morally grey sexy as hell. He made it clear that Grace was his focus and proved it, albeit in unorthodox ways. I had to put my book down a couple of times to scream into my pillow because I went through every damn emotion.
The ending made me take a couple days to contemplate everything, including betrayals and the absolutely sinfully hot spicy scenes. Emily, this book was indeed "Poison" and I'll happily imbue it again in the future 🖤
I received an ALC narrated by Abby Flinsinger. She did a great job. A few pauses, and areas that felt like they’d been cut. But it wasn’t achieving that was off putting. From the very beginning this pulled me in. The characters were fire. The FMC was a bada$$ that didn’t take any crap from anyone. Doing everything in her power to take care of her son. Running from a life of toxicity. She did whatever she needed to in order to give her son the best. Her job provided that. She’s was definitely fierce. She was confident and sexy , and after knew it. Raven was one hell of a woman. And the MMC was a dominant and persistent guy. He watched what he wanted. And he wanted her. A contract and two million dollars later, she’s working for him. Being only his. The push and pull between them kept me on the edge of my seat. And that spice, holy hell, listening instead of reading is a whole new ball game. This story was hot and intense. So good. It’s a definite must read, or listen to 🥵🔥👌🏼😉
