Layla Jenns is a book girl with no one to talk to about her books, that is until her brother's best friend starts asking. Parker Miller is busy with fixing motorcycles, but always has time to talk to Layla about her current reads. After countless nights spent together on her parents roof, Parker doesn't show.
One year later, now Layla and Parker are neighbors.
Will reading be enough to ignite their flame again?
This is a super sweet story! What stood out to me most was how relatable the FMC felt. I saw so much of myself in her reactions and insecurities. That connection kept me invested, and it gave the book a warm, grounded feel that I really appreciated. While I enjoyed the story overall, sometimes the writing did pull me out of the experience a bit. Certain sentences felt a bit stretched. This made some dialogue sound less natural, especially in scenes that were otherwise very realistic and emotionally believable. That said, the heart of the book is lovely, and the characters are written with depth and relatability.
For this being the authors first romance book I think they found their genre!!!!! High key loveeee that there is no smut it was very refreshing. The two main characters are extremely likable lmao I love Parker and Layla so much they’re good people
First of all, I’d like to thank Meghan herself for sending me this book and letting me be an ARC reader for One Ride! She did such an amazing job with this being her first Romance book and I’d definitely recommend it!💕
I absolutely ate this book up and left no crumbs! I knew from the beginning that Parker would become one of my favorite MMC’s. The way he secretly would read whatever book she was currently reading just so he could talk to her about it was honestly so cute and sweet. The chemistry and little bantering between Parker and Layla was chefs kiss! I loved how they both supported each other in following their dreams and were their number 1 fans for one another!
The side characters were also so good! Derek and Kylie’s bickering was so funny to me! I loved how the boy group and girl group joined together to make a little found family moment. Truly enjoyed this so much!

This is an excellent read, Takes place in a small college town. Very descriptive with surroundings and characters. Moves smoothly throughout out the story, nice pace. Doesn’t stall. Beautifully written. Highly recommend
Highly recommend!!! Romance is Meghan’s genre FOR SURE. I loved this book. I felt extremely connected to the characters. I think the author did a great job of weaving the web of each character and their relationship to each other. It was a really good slow burn. Leaving you with a satisfying ending that left you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Great read for this time of year!!!
This would’ve been 2⭐️ if it wasn’t the authors debut book in romance.
I love the story line and the characters; it was all very relatable and sweet, but the writing leaves much to be desired. Let’s chill out with the exclamation points. Also, are contractions illegal, now?
There could’ve been more depth and relationship building. Especially in the beginning before Parker disappears for a year. It would’ve been nice to see how close they had gotten, and more details so that his disappearance would’ve been more heartbreaking. It was hard to emotionally connect with very little background.
It also seemed to skip occasionally, which is fine if you add a page break. But the skips went from one line to the next, giving whiplash and leaving you to figure out if you entered a new scene or not.
One big example of the skipping where a page break should’ve been was the hospital scene. Some of the characters had gone for coffee and food. The line stated that they came back through the door to the waiting room, then the very next line, the Dr and Isaac are talking to each other and we’re not told that the Dr and Isaac even entered the room. If a page break had been put right in between the 2 sentences, this would’ve made more sense, but context would’ve still been needed about them entering the room.
No explanation was given as to what the Dr’s found wrong with Isaac, he was just discharged with no explanation. I found this issue throughout the book where many things happen, and the story just continues on with no other details.
The chapters were short, which I don’t tend to mind, if everything is detailed properly. Adding details and keeping chapters short is very possible, but it didn’t happen with this book.

To start, Thank you Meghan for sending the book to me to read early!
Once I saw what this book was about, I had to sign up so I could get a chance to read it! I it a nice change from all the other romance books and I loved it for that. One of my favorite tropes is "brother's best friend", and I've never read a book about a book girl, let alone a book like this.
This is a sweet romance book. No spice, and lots of yearning. Layla has a crush on Parker. Parker has a crush on Layla. Layla's older brother, Derek, is Parker's best friend and college roommate. Layla goes to the same college for her sophomore year, and moves across the street from Derek and Parker with her best friend.
Layla is a book girl and none of her friends reads like she does. And Parker has been keeping a secret list of books he and Layla talked about a year ago, and he goes back to read them, just so she has someone talk about her books with.
I think the sweetest thing any man could say is "Tell me about the book you're reading"

One Ride by Meghan Eilis is her debut romance novel and it gives pure cozy romance vibes—with good banter, a college setting, and the brother’s-best-friend slow burn we all secretly love. Parker (motorcycle-riding, secretly soft) and Layla (bookish, witty, shy) balance each other so effortlessly that every interaction feels swoony and genuine. The side characters add charm, the banter sparkles, and the whole book gives off “comfort read” energy. Sweet, funny, and heartwarming—this was a -star escape I’d recommend to anyone craving a feel-good romance.
This book was such a sweet and easy romance. I enjoyed this book so much. This was such a light book it made me so happy to see the prices come together. The way Parker read all the books she was reading and how he backed in to her Ereader to be able to find the books. The way this book made me giggle and kick my feet.
Parker:"Uh, not really. I know someone who reads this one, and no one else she knows does. So I will read it so she has someone to talk about the book with."
“Truth is, I never cared much for reading, but she does, which makes it a priority to me.”
"Love at first sight is bullshit, but the first time I saw her was the last time I saw anyone else."
If you’re looking for a cozy, Gilmore Girls–style romance with sharp banter and the sweetest brother’s-best-friend trope, this book is for you 😉
Motorcycle-riding, secretly-soft MMC ✅️ Bookish, witty MFC ✅️ Brother’s Best Friend ✅️ College Setting ✅️ Sweet Banter ✅️✅️✅️ Slow Burn Romance ✅️ Comfort Read Energy ✅️ Side Characters Who Steal the Show 😂 ✅️
Parker is the kind of hero who’ll ride a motorcycle but also secretly read whatever Layla’s reading just so he can talk to her about it — and honestly, that’s swoon-worthy on its own. Layla’s quite shy matches his quiet thoughtfulness perfectly, and their chemistry feels effortless.
It’s YA, so expect cozy sweetness over heavy angst, but the charm and banter are top tier. This was a four-star read for me, perfect when you just want a feel-good escape with heart and humor.
I found this book on accident and oh my goodnessss! I couldn’t put it down😭 I fell asleep only because it was 1am to wake up at 4:30am and continue reading until it was done. Every book girls dreammmm🥹😍 thank you Meghan!!
This was a very cute story. A boy likes girl, girl likes boy but they made it to college before they took a chance on each other. If you like slice of life, you'll enjoy this romance.
