The Victor.

She never would have bowed.

Dante can’t help but think the words. Even as he stands in the city of gods, surrounded by faces of legend, he can’t stop seeing her falling through that endless void, mentally shouting that one word up at him so viciously he knows it’s forever branded upon his soul.

Betrayal.

The Fallen.

Where am I?

After falling for what seems like forever, Adrian finds herself in an entirely new world. A world of darkness which calls to something unnamed inside her. With every truth revealed, every injustice bared, it hums ever louder, buzzing through her veins and begging to be released. Setting her fear aside, Adrian tastes it for the first time.

Power.

uhh so WHAT THE HELL MAN

that ending is criminal :’) i love Adrian sm. also, it really took me almost half the book to care about Dante’s POV’s bc i am a petty person, lol.

i will say i felt the first half of this book was *preeeeetty* slow. but it laid groundwork that was crucial, and the ending makes up for it.

now, Gryfon?? that’s my man. loved him, and can’t wait for book 3 to see what happens next, bc omg?! MISS HORTON KNOWS HOW TO END HER BOOKS.

the plot and world blows up in this book, and overall i think this is an unsung gem that any fantasy, or dystopian lover should be reading!

4.25 ⭐️ overall, love!!!

The Second Sanctum by A.N. Horton

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Top Tier Fantasy of 2025

So what’s it about?

Adrian fell through hell in The Third Ring, but nothing could have prepared her—or me—for the darkness waiting in The Second Sanctum. After plunging into a shadowed, brutal world, she’s faced with truths that tear her apart, injustices that demand reckoning, and a power deep inside herself that hums and begs to be released.

Dante is still there—an echo of a bond that might have been—but fractured, distant, and possibly wrong. Adrian’s journey isn’t about reunion; it’s about discovering herself, exploring her own power, and carving her place in a world that doesn’t play by the gods’ rules.

Why you can’t miss it:

✅ 568 pages of cinematic, immersive high fantasy
✅ Darker, bloodier, higher-stakes Trials
✅ Adrian’s independence and power growth take center stage
✅ Complex, evolving magic system
✅ The lingering, tension-filled connection with Dante ⚡
✅ Intriguing new characters (I see you, Gryphon 👀)
✅ Lore that hints at interwoven universes beyond this story
✅ Epic imagery, including the unforgettable human wall of Zvers

The Tension:

Adrian navigates a world humming with secrets, injustice, and forbidden power. The bond with Dante remains—felt, fragile, and maybe not meant to be. Meanwhile, Gryphon lurks in the shadows, teasing a connection we’re only beginning to understand. Every trial, vision, and revelation draws Adrian closer to her own strength and destiny.

Final Thoughts:

The Second Sanctum is darker, sharper, and more emotionally devastating than its predecessor. Horton’s writing will wreck you, hook you, and leave you desperate for more. Adrian is no longer just surviving; she’s rising, claiming her power, and demanding attention on her own terms.

Book three? A.N. Horton, my soul is on the line—do not test me. 💀🔥

🗓️ Expected release: December 2, 2025
📍 Get ready. You will not survive—and you will not want to.

4.5 🌟 Wow oh wow, this book took me on an adventure 🤭

If you felt confined by The Third Ring taking place mostly within the Sanctuary, get ready, this sequel opens the world wide open. We’re introduced to new lands, new people, and layers upon layers of history and lore. The world-building made everything clicks. Every new detail felt like a missing puzzle piece finally sliding into place. The ending isn’t quite as jaw-dropping as book one’s (thankfully because I genuinely might not have survived another cliffhanger like that), but it did make me scream “I knew it!”

Not sure what I’ll do with myself now while I wait for book 3. I do hope to see everyone being nicer to Dante though, and he deserved all the foul treatment initially, but it was starting to make me sad towards the end. Baby boy deserves his happy ending too after all. I feel like he has “repented” or whatever at this point. Manifesting him and Ksenia… and of course, Adrian and Gryfon!!

Thank you so much to A.N. Horton for the eARC! Really needed it (even though I realistically could have waited the month) so I wouldn’t die :)

4.25⭐️ WOWWWW okay I picked up on the tandem read after I was about 55% of the way through this one and I loved them WAY more together. Switching between the Adrian/Date and Milo/Olympia POVs was AMAZING 🤯

Literally cannot wait for the next book

PS: The nickname “little corruption” is absolutely diabolical but I will persist!!

This is truly one of those books that’s impossible to review without spoilers, especially with the way the first book ended.

I will say new magic is being discovered, Dante our MMC from book 1 has a heavy conscience, and a new bond is formed, and I’m absolutely shipping it. If you like your romantasy,s full of betrayal, improper balance of power, meddling gods, and lots of secrets you will devour this series. We also have a unique take on mythical creatures and bonds, it was an absolute breath of fresh air outside of dragons and wolves! This is a whole new spin on dystopian romance! We get a lot more world building in book 2, and I will say this takes place outside the sanctuary.

In true AN Horton fashion this too ends on a diabolical cliffhanger that actually left me close to tears after a very prominent revelation was made.

Thank you so much for AN Horton for allowing me to read this pre-release in exchange for my honest review.

4.75/5- ok I’m gonna need everyone to add this to their TBR immediately bc what the heck!! this series is CRIMINALLY underrated!! Seriously how has this not blown up on booktok yet i simply do not understand. But I feel so incredibly fortunate to be one of the few to have stumbled across it! I absolutely devoured book 1 and book 2 was just as good if not better. It’s slated to be a 4 book series and I am CHOMPINGG at the bit for more. Idk what it says about me that I really enjoy a dark, twisted dystopian novel- I’ve been chasing the high of Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner etc for YEARS and I’ve finally found something that reignited that flame:,)
We got trials and games. We got enemies to lovers. We got yearning. We got fantastical creatures. We got a badass magic system. We got oppressive class separation and political intrigue. So many twists & turns & jaw dropping reveals. The world building is so complex and well-executed. Literally my only gripe is the grammar was a little clunky at times but it was so easy to overlook in light of how amazing everything else was. A. N. Horton you are a gem, thank you for your work.

Omg this book was SO GOOD!!!! This book was real heavy on the intricate world building and political intrigue especially since a war is brewing. The way I read this book hoping to recover from the ending of book 1 and I still have not recovered 😅.

Adrian is such a bad*** I love her so bad!!!! I love everything about her. She is so strong, powerful, and selfless, and will do anything for the people she loves. I also love how much she stands up for herself. The friendships, relationships, and bonds in this book were EVERYTHING!!! This book made me feel all the emotions you could ever think of

I need the next book IMMEDIATELY and I need ANSWERS. I’m literally so excited for the next one.

I thought I knew (almost) everything there was to know about the inner workings of this world. I thought I had guessed where A.N. Horton might lead us after the masterpiece that was The Third Ring, Book 1 of her Sanctum series. But I was so, so wrong. So wrong in my predictions and ideas.

Still, am I sad about it? Not at all. I'm utterly in awe at how Horton managed to pull everything together and then expand it into an even more intricate web of worlds, ideas, and power plays.

Yes, I said worlds, because that is what the author gifted us: new worlds, new characters, and new key players, right alongside Adrian and Dante. After the devastating ending of Book 1, I never could’ve imagined the turns this story would take.

Adrian has remained a steady character, even with all her inner demons and her haunting past. She never lost the trait that makes her Adrian: the love and devotion she holds for those closest to her heart. Even in her darkest moments, she gives everything she has to save others, even at her own detriment. Dante himself said many times that she was better than him, and he was right. She is better. But still, even with everything that happened, I couldn't bring myself to hate Dante. And believe me, I tried. Some sins may never be forgiven, but now, after everything, I’m not sure Dante could have ever acted differently than he did. He is a product of his upbringing, and sadly, he didn’t have the strength to rise above it, not even for Adrian. Will he ever find it? Well, I do love a redemption arc, so I still have some faith left.

Still, this story reaches beyond just their relationship, as much as their love is shaped and tainted by the world around them. The surroundings, the systems, the truths they were raised to believe. So what happens when those truths shatter? When the lies burn away and the real history rises from the ashes? How does one accept that everything they believed was false? Horton is a master of weaving false histories and false narratives together with mind-shattering revelations and heroes who are heroes no longer.

So, immerse yourself in the Sanctum series and meet these deeply layered, flawed characters as they search for what they believe their destiny might be. Fall in love with the plot that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Ask questions. Chase answers. Witness friendships and loves being born and destroyed. And so, so much more.

Thank you, A.N. Horton, for having me on your ARC team and for allowing me to witness this beautiful story unfold.

3.5 and was tempted to round down because I felt slightly let down after the high of the first. Heavy with grief, mythology, and politics, this is an emotional (and slightly messy) ride - really this book should have been titled “pity party”.

This book picks up right where The Third Ring left off, only now we’re in dual POV—Adrian and Dante—post betrayal, post chaos, post heartbreak. And it’s a lot. A lot of new information, new characters, new emotional spirals… and also a lot of philosophical wandering from both leads as they try to sort through guilt, purpose, loyalty, and identity.

Where book one had me obsessed with the brutality and mystery of the Trials, Second Sanctum zooms out and deepens the mythology and worldbuilding. We learn more about the gods (or so-called gods), Sanctuary’s hidden history, and the different realms and races that have been living under its oppressive thumb. There’s a heavy focus on balance—good and evil, light and dark, peace and revolution—and how disrupting that balance (even with good intentions) has a cost.

Adrian is still reeling, and honestly spends a lot of the book pushing people away, especially General Broody Love Interest #2, which made the later shift toward him feel abrupt. Meanwhile, Dante is a mess of guilt and longing, but the grovel was weak at best. One drunken “I still love you” just didn’t cut it. I needed more for Adrian after what she went through.

Other frustrations:
• The amulet reveal felt way too last-minute and underdeveloped.
• Darius’s hypocrisy was hard to stomach—especially considering Adrian’s sacrifices.
• The first half dragged with both leads wallowing in emotional limbo.

But there’s still so much here that worked:
• The deeper dive into the politics of rebellion
• Adrian navigating her role as weapon, symbol, and strategist
• The hint of fated mates (but twisted and complicated in a way I liked)
• And the brewing storm of whatever the hell is coming next

We’re clearly in the middle-book setup for an epic confrontation, possibly even god-killing levels of rebellion. I’ll be continuing because I need to know: Will Adrian rise or break? Can Dante ever be redeemed? Will the world burn for change—or be rebuilt?

This is a high-concept, high-stakes romantasy with rich worldbuilding, emotionally broken characters, and a slow-burning plot that simmers with unrest. If you’re in it for the long game, this book delivers. Just be ready to wait a little longer for the real war to start

I’m obsessed with this series!! This was an amazing sequel to The Third Ring — the world expands so much as we explore new places, dive deeper into the history, and meet new characters and creatures. The world-building is incredible. The pacing of this one is a bit slower than the first book, but it worked perfectly for me! I loved following Adrian’s and Dante’s individual journeys.

I love Adrian so much!! She is such a strong, determined, and powerful FMC and I loved watching her discover herself throughout this book. Dante had me feeling so conflicted, but by the end, I was rooting for him to find happiness. And then there’s Gryphon… I did not see him coming 👀 he’s very mysterious and has me so intrigued. I also loved seeing some new friendships form in this book!

After the events of book one, the romance in this one is barely a whisper — however, there is still some fantastic tension and overprotectiveness sprinkled in, and I ate it up!!

The Second Sanctum is a unique and refreshing dystopian fantasy, and the excellent expansion of the world and plot really stood out. This series is truly so addictive and I could not put this book down! I can’t wait to see where this story will go in book 3!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of The Second Sanctum, and I have to say—I’m completely hooked. I read The Third Ring in one sitting and absolutely loved it; it was easily one of the best books I’ve read in years (and I’m picky!). After finishing The Second Sanctum, my obsession has only grown.

A.N. Horton does an incredible job exploring Adrian’s emotions toward Dante—her anger and heartbreak over believing he chose to kill her, yet the undeniable bond that still ties them together, “false” or not. Zya’s character development was a standout for me—her loyalty and quiet strength were exactly what Adrian needed. And Gryfon! Such a fun and compelling addition—I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I adore stories that challenge ideas of morality, loyalty, and what it means to do the right thing, and Horton captures that beautifully. The Second Sanctum is powerful, emotional, and utterly unforgettable—a refreshing and unique series that I can’t recommend enough!

I reread this book because I can not stop thinking about it and boy did I realize how much I missed on the first go around. I burned through the arc when I read it because I was so excited to find out what happened. I loved it just as much the second time around and you better believe I will be listening to this series on audio when it comes available.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book from the author. ❤️

Wow. I did not see any of what happened in this book coming! I love being surprised and unable to predict where a story will go. That’s one of the reasons I loved The Third Ring, and why I enjoyed The Second Sanctum just as much. Both books were surprising, unpredictable, and unlike anything I’ve read before.

I’m an avid reader, especially of fantasy, dystopian fantasy, and some sci-fi. Over the past few years, I’ve read hundreds of books in these genres. While many of them are enjoyable, most blur together once I finish because they follow familiar patterns. Very few stand out as truly unique.

The Second Sanctum was refreshingly different. It defied my expectations completely, both in the direction of the story and in the revelations it delivered. The character development was compelling and full of depth, and every twist caught me off guard in the best way.

This series has already surprised me twice, and I am already dying to see what happens in book 3!

Just finished reading an advanced copy of a book that was just released called, The Second Sanctum. This picks up right where book one, The Third Ring, left off which I was so happy about! So much is revealed in this story between the betrayal, the twists, the politics, the mind games, the manipulation, the fight for control. The world building in this story is incredible, the attention to details throughout the story absolutely makes it come to life, the characters feel real and authentic and flawed which just made me even more invested in this story. Just like I said about the first book, this series is everything I look for in a fantasy/romantasy, it didn't disappoint! (I mean that sword fighting scene, come onnn! 😮‍💨) This was a rollercoaster of a book that had me gasping, worried, shocked, laughing, and hanging on every word. I don't know how I'm supposed to wait until the next book after that! ❤️📚

Thank you to the author and her team for this ARC of The Second Sanctum, in exchange for an honest review.

You ever have that feeling where you’re kinda nervous that the second book in a series won’t hit like the first book? Well The Second Sanctum by A.N. Horton gave me the opposite feeling and blew my expectations out of the park!!

In the Second Sanctum, we continue right from the twist and betrayal of The Third Ring! I’ve read books before with insane endings but when I tell you The Third Ring’s ending was actually so brutal, I was desperate for The Second Sanctum!

In The Third Ring, I was so intrigued by the unique plot of the book, especially the world of the walled city called The Sanctuary. Of course, I had so many questions, and let me just say A.N. Horton delivered the answers in The Second Sanctum! We get to learn so much in the second sanctum while being introduced to new characters and new worlds that Adrian and Dante were definitely not prepared for. In The Second Sanctum, Adrian and Dante have to face their new realities!

Adrian is an FMC who will truly never back down from fighting against injustice and fighting for her loved ones! Adrian’s strength and power is something I truly admire in an FMC! She has gone through so much and continues to get back up every time! In the Second Sanctum, we get to see her full power while also seeing those who are trying to use her power for their own motives!

And oh my, where do I even begin with Dante? He is truly reeling from that ending in The Third Ring, and he has so much repairing to do! I definitely enjoyed his POV in The Second Sanctum and following along as he uncovers new pieces of information and the deceptions he thought he understood.

Let’s take a moment to also acknowledge Gryfon! I love a PROTECTIVE and mysterious MAN! I am very intrigued to see what the third book will hold in store for Adrian, Dante, and Gryfon! I am ready for the ride A.N Horton will take me on!

Thank you so much A.N. Horton for providing me with an ARC of The Second Sanctum! ❤️

THIS BOOK BUTTERED MY BISCUIT! LOL I AM obsessed with this book and even re-read my fav chapters after I read it. It is multi POV, and in my opinion Third Ring was great but the second book was WAAAAAY BETTER!!!! I WAS SAT. Getting to hear Dante the first MMC's POV after he betrayed our FMC Adrian really added so much depth to the book and understanding, but I still wasn't his fan or rooting for him lol. I love the new MMC, Gryfon, and when it was revealed the previous MMC, Dante was a "false bond" I was shook and I knew Gryfon will be her soul bond. Also the epilogue with Gryfon at the end solidified this for me. I am curious how much Dante will be included in the next few books because he is a mmc, but I can't stand him but in the best way! A.N. Horton outdid herself this book left me shook and I was screaming at the end of book 1 (Third Ring ) and then again during all of book 2. Absolutely move up on the TBR but there is a cliff hanger and no release date as of yet 3/10/26 but I know she is working on it! Honestly she can take her time if she comes out with another masterpiece.

I was lucky to receive an ARC of The Second Sanctum and it did not disappoint!! The first book of the series was one of my favorite reads this year and I desperately needed to know what happened after the massive betrayal at the end of book 1.

The pacing of this book was engaging and the world/setting was original and creative. It kept me entertained from beginning to end with anticipation of what would happen next and how it would wrap up. If I had anything negative to say, it would be that I am not sure what is going on with Darius - I feel as if his character in general is underdeveloped along with "his friends". I am not sure that they felt important to what was happening. I wanted to feel a little more emotionally attached to Gryphon and perhaps I needed some of his POV inserted throughout.

Overall, it was a great read - the book ends in another cliff hanger so I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment!

I’ve been really looking forward to The Second Sanctum after that insane cliffhanger from The Third Ring and I was not disappointed! Literally picking up right where we left off, we’re immediately thrust back into the world of Sanctuary.

In this one, we get Dante’s POV which I was glad to have his insights on how the ending of TTR went down. Some of his chapters did have me emotional, but I’ll just say I’m team Adrian 😅

Adrian is still our headstrong FMC and I’m happy that she doesn’t change. We also get to meet some excellent new characters in this one and I’m really excited for the direction this story is heading! The extended world building was also super fun, I loved getting more insights to the history of Sanctuary.

The Second Sanctum is another fast paced, action packed, gripping dystopian fantasy that pulled me in from the first page. AN Horton really knows how to captivate her readers! I can’t wait for book 3 to see what happens next!

Thank you A.N Horton for the eARC. Book 2 in the Sanctum Series.

This was a wild ride!! Hold on tight because you do not know the direction it will take. Book 2 starts up right where book 1 left off with dual POVs, new world building, new characters and a lot of political f**kery with the Gods/Geists.

A.N. Horton has a genius brain, true appreciation for her creativity and imagination. The adventure she takes you on is like none in the Romantasy genre. A refreshing take 💯

Always ending on a crazy cliffhanger that leaves you frothing at the maw. Looking forward to see how she wraps this all up!

This series should be HUGE. It is truly incredible and is my top book(s) of the entire year. A.N. Horton is an absolute master of keeping you flipping the pages. The suspense, the shock, the story. If you haven't already figured it out I loved this book. It was the perfect second book to The Third Ring which I also LOVED. The Second Sanctum took us on an entirely different journey to what happens next. I'm not going to say too much because I think you should go into this pretty blind. If you enjoy fantasy with unique magic, trials, high stakes, villains and badass FMCs you will eaaaat this up.

I am so grateful to have been an ARC reader for The Second Sanctum.

Since I picked up A. N. Hortons books last year I haven't been able to get enough of her fantasy stories, and book has me yet again yearning for more.

The Second Sanctum has strong world building, friendship, hardship, self-discovery, and so many more strong topics that make this book a page turner.

I have loved Adrian since the beginning, and I further feel for her and love her as a character. Her development is inspiring and truly helps the reader understand her character.

I really enjoyed meeting so many new. characters in this story as well. and oh my goodness, the end. I won't spoil anything, but it opens up a whole new layer to the story and the series.

PLS READ THIS SERIES!!! I BEG YOU - book 1 was good, but this??? This world just got blown wide open. There are so many moving part, so many players on the field, SO many layers. I ate this up and didn't want it to end!

The pacing in the beginning felt a little off, but it was for sure just a me problem because it was the POV of a character I hate sooo 🤷🏼‍♀️ still learned vital info - I was just being petty 🙃 I CANT HELP IT

"I didn't scream. Because if I did, she might hear it, she might feel it. And I would never give her that pain if I could help it. This, I would bear alone."

"I am a fury you will not withstand, a power you will not claim, and I will not be held by any man, general."

Some books you inhale. Others you savor. This one made me do both.

The story picks up exactly where The Third Ring left off and builds the world in ways I didn’t expect- gods, power plays, and tension so sharp it cuts.

Adrian and the general had me smiling like an idiot…

But that final chapter? I’m not okay.

What happened?

The first book was SO good! I devoured it, I couldn’t put it down. Then this one started off great, but I found myself getting bored, especially with Dante’s chapters.

But Gryphon… 🤭 the banter between him and Adrian. I ate that up.

I do still love the world, and the characters and plan on continuing the series but, damn. This didn’t vibe with me unfortunately.

**contains spoilers if you have not read The Third Ring**

an absolute masterpiece of tension, revelation, and emotional devastation. Picking up the threads left from the first book, this sequel doesn’t just expand the world of Sanctuary — it redefines it.

From the very first chapter, the tone is darker, heavier, and more introspective. The female main character’s evolution is nothing short of brilliant. The weapon she becomes — forged through betrayal, loss, and the cruel manipulations of those who held her life in secrecy — makes her story both tragic and empowering. Horton captures her transformation with stunning precision, allowing readers to feel every ounce of her fury, confusion, and determination as she uncovers truths that were never meant to be found.

One of the strongest elements of this sequel is its dual perspective between the Geists (the god-like beings) and the humans. This structure peels back the mythology layer by layer, revealing a fractured timeline and long-buried motives that challenge everything we thought we knew about Sanctuary. It’s ambitious and complex, but Horton’s writing makes it seamless — every revelation lands with weight and purpose, each perspective enriching the emotional and moral conflict of the world.

And then there’s the tension between the two main characters — sharp, aching, and impossible to look away from. After a betrayal that cuts to the core, their dynamic becomes a study in pain and loyalty, love and mistrust. Horton doesn’t rush their reconciliation; instead, the story simmers with raw emotion and unspoken words, making every interaction feel electric.

By the final chapters, the stakes have never been higher. The plot twists hit hard, and the setup for Book 3 is absolutely chilling — the kind of ending that leaves you staring at the last page, desperate and a little heartbroken, already craving more.

With The Second Sanctum, Horton proves her talent for weaving together myth, emotion, and brutality in a way that feels both epic and intimate. It’s a story about power, survival, and the cost of truth — and it cements this series as one of the most emotionally charged and intricately built fantasies out there.

Thank you A.N. Horton for giving me the opportunity to read The Second Sanctum as an advanced reader copy.
