It took me longer than it should have to realize this was a collection of short stories, as when the second one started, I kept wondering how it could possibly turn relate to the first one. These stories are spread out a bit throughout the history of the dark side, and they all have Halloween-esque vibes to them, like spooky stories told around a campfire, but Star Wars tales instead. I don't recall there being any regular characters beyond Vader, and that's ok for the most part. There are definitely some interesting ones in here, and they all take dark turns, some of them actually a bit unexpected.

The narrator is a fascinating dichotomy in performance, where his calm deamanor at the beginning of stories, where he lays the groundwork and describes the characters and setting, is soothing enough to honestly almost put me to sleep. Yet when the intensity and the horror ratchets up in each story, I found myself hanging on his every word, the tension and the sinister aspects of each tale dripping from each one. I feel like he'd be an excellent choice as part of an ensemble, when the story really takes off, but perhaps someone else should set them up? It's something I haven't experienced before when listening to an audiobook.

Overall, not bad at all for a free listen as part of an Audible membership, and scratched the itch I had for more Star Wars stories without breaking the bank.

Thoroughly enjoyed these horror-like adventures around the Halloween period.

These short stories were published before to read, but this Audio Adventure had great voice-acting and a sense of mystery, suspense and horror.

"Publisher's summary

Read on if you dare! This unique in-world collection hallows the spooky tales and ghost stories that would have kept young Luke and Leia up at night. Created by George Mann and Grant Griffin—the same team behind the stunning Star Wars: Myths & Fables—these six [sic] frightful fables have been carefully woven from the expansive fabric that is the Star Wars galaxy (including the thrilling landscape from Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland and Disney World), and beautifully painted in a lush illustrative style that feels intergalactic yet innately archetypal and timeless."

The stories in this audiobook were originally published a while ago. It is great to finally see an audiobook version, though it is not from Random House Audio, which does such a wonderful job with the adult Star Wars novels. This is an attempt to have a Halloween style set of Star Wars tales as fables. It is canon, so there are tie ins to some of the other canon books. Canon tends to downgrade certain beings and the changes are sad for those of us who know legends. The Nightsisters would not cower from a Sith, just as Jedi were far more powerful. Narration was perfect for this title.
