The next darkly addictive, sizzling Mafia Rivals romance from Zara Cox Rafaele
I’m the Enforcer—the last face you see when there’s no one left to hear you scream. I finally know who killed my mother, and I’m ready to burn the world to the ground. But as I move to strike, she’s already there. Sofiya Mancinelli. Assassin. Enemy. Two steps ahead. And when she puts a gun to my head, all I can think is—how the hell do I survive long enough to make her mine?
Sofiya
I’m the Assassin. My job is stop Rafaele Salvatore from taking revenge. But I’ve always had a thing for scorching-hot psychos—and the brutal, dirty-talking Enforcer is the most compelling I’ve ever met. Instead of ending him, I agree to a thirty-day truce. He doesn’t know I plan to make him fall for me. Hard. Even if it means he forgets everything he’s bled for.
A scorching enemies-to-lovers mafia romance with lethal heat, pulse-pounding danger, and a Bonnie & Clyde twist you’ll never forget.
I have been looking for a mafia romance with an FMC lead, Sofiya. She’s an assassin. She has a job, and it's to end Rafael. Rafael, though, is not one to be messed with. These two together are incredible, going toe-to-toe. The Enforcer is my first book from Zara Cox, and I loved the pacing. The story goes hard right from the beginning. It’s action-filled throughout, and the spice is good too. I enjoyed how their enemies-to-lovers relationship developed. I definitely want to read more from this author.
Thank you to Boldwood Books for the gifted e-copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Zara came in hot in this one and we had no complaints out the gate. I. was. raved. by like page one hundred. It is enemies, lovers, keep it in the family core and we love to see it. Now sign me up for what comes next because, if it wasn't clear already, she is an F1 darling.

Back in July, I read The Mastermind, which was my first read by this author.
It was also the first book in the Mafia Rivals series and I'm so happy to be back with the second book in this brilliant series.
I love a good mafia dark romance read and after taking a while to settle into book one, it really set off at pace - this book was an instant hit.
Although I could really tell that this was the same series, I don't think you would have to have read the first book for this to still be a great read.
I found it much easier to settle into this read and was gripped by the first few chapters.
The dynamic between our couple was perfect as both were such a strong characters with similar positions within their families.
With such dominant characters, it was pretty obvious that we'd be seeing a fiery relationship and we definitely see a a fair amount of spice throughout this.
But having said that, I loved that this was well balanced with character development and storyline progression.
This was a great continuation of this series and I liked seeing the unique elements progress further.
The Enforcer continues the Mafia Rivals series, this time focusing on Rafaele. Enforcer. Underboss. Executioner. Who has finally learnt who killed his mum and is ready to seek revenge and burn down the world around them. However, just as he arrives, he finds assassin Sofiya waiting for him, and he soon has a gun to his head.
As Sofiya has been ordered to prevent Rafaele from taking his revenge.
The only problem is that Sofiya has always been drawn to scorching hot psychopaths, and the brutal, sexy enforcer standing in front of her is the most compelling one she has ever laid eyes on.
So, instead of seeking revenge, she agrees to a thirty-day truce. But Sofiya has a bigger plan to make Rafaele fall for her...hard! And make him forget everything he has ever bled for.
And with pulse-pounding danger, electrifying chemistry, and sizzling enemies-to-lovers vibes, not to mention a twist reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde, this was a delightful read. I would happily recommend it to others.
My thanks to Boldwood Books. All thoughts expressed are my own. 😊
Book 2 in the Mafia Rivals series follows on from where we left off with Maddie and Cesare, but this time we follow Rafa and Sofiya, the enforcer we met in book 1 becomes the unusual hero that we can't help but fall for here. I found book 1 quite dark, now I was either more braced for it this time or it wasn't quite as dark (I do think the latter). It was however filled with the sharp dialogue, witty banter, hot Sicilian tongues and action aplenty. We still see parts of the racing world, but its not so much of a focus this time. This allowed us to see other parts of the family lives such as the vineyard which just sounded magical. I absolutely adored seeing Rafa and Sofiya's relationship develop. Two kick-ass assassin's was always going to be fiery! There is still so much we need to get answers to, I'm so intrigued as to where the next in the series will go!
I needed a good distraction from life today, and this book was full of action and spice. The characters are from rival mafia families, both in similar positions. She's an assassin, he's an enforcer, which makes for nonstop action. I love how Sofiya is such a strong fmc herself. The book is fast paced and held my attention and I couldn't wait to find out how everything worked out in the end. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The views and opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
Absolutely fantastic! I liked the book because it held my attention from the beginning to the end and I liked how the two protectors of their families fit into a common mission, one to free herself from the burden of the past and the other to free herself from the constraints that held her back through growing up. Sofiya and Rafa managed to find a balance between two feuding families, in the end they found something precious - love.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this opportunity ♥️
Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Enforcer has a promising dark, edgy premise, but it doesn’t fully deliver. The pacing is uneven, with too much internal repetition and not enough real character development. The romance feels rushed and more surface-level than emotional, making it hard to connect with the characters or their motivations. While Zara Cox’s writing still carries her signature intensity, the story ultimately feels scattered and underwhelming.
I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to the author, the publisher, and Netgalley for allowing me the absolute privilege of being able to arc read this book. I really appreciate it.
I've have the privilege of being able to arc read the previous book in this series 'The Mastermind', which I wasn't a big fan of it as it felt like it was mainly spice with not much plot, connection, or story. So I was really nervous going into 'The Enforcer' and I have to say I loved it! It hit every mark and aspect, which the first failed to do for me. However I did love getting to see aspects of Cesare and Maddie's lives after their book! Well it is better to have previous knowledge by reading the first book, this series so far can be read as interconnected standalones.
When you think spicy mafia romance, this is the book you're going to think of! The Mafia aspects are most definitely there, the actual romance is definitely slow burn but there and I loved Rafaele absolutely possessiveness and devotion to Sofiya, well still letting her be her. The spice is spicy and totally there where necessary, but this time it's not a centre focus, the characters and their story are! This is an incredible story period too, and I absolutely loved both of their growth. It was absolutely heartbreaking though especially Sofiya's but it was so well done. They both also despite being their families enforcers they were so realistic which I missed a lot of in the first book, and their chemistry was off the charts. I also really loved the continuation of the inclusion of the formula 1 racing, and it was done really well here too! I really can't wait to see where Zara Cox goes with her next book in this series!
If you're a big fan of spicy mafia romances, I think you're absolutely going to love this book!
Thank you so much again for the absolute privilege of being able to arc read this book. I truly appreciate it and I absolutely loved it!

The story was easy to follow and had some very spicy scenes. I was hooked from the very first page and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. I really enjoyed the author's writing style and I will definitely read more by them. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author. 💚 Release date -16th November. 💜 Thank you to Netgalley, Boldwood Books and the author, Zara Cox for my arc ebook copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
When I say this book is crazy, I don't mean it in a negative way, but honestly... First, it's Rafaelle's big brother who falls for Sofiya's big sister, and now they fall for each other too. Even though their families are still enemies 🙈 You know mafia enemies! So the worst kind of enemies. That's the reason why they want to ☠ each other. Sofiya really 🔫 at Rafaelle, and she 🎯😱 But no panic, this is a romance book, so it has a HEA 😁 THAT'S what I'm calling an enemies to lovers romance!!!! 🤩 And it's the kind I love the most 😎 It's not necessary to have read book 1 in this series, but you will miss a wonderful story if you don't read it 🩷 And you will get a bit more of the backstory of why they are these big enemies.
I love strong & feisty FMCs, and Sofiya fits it 1000%. I don't think Rafaelle is stronger than her. OK, physically, because he is a man, but everything else, no.
The chemistry between Rafaelle & Sofiya is obviously 💥 and also so freaking 🔥. Rafaelle is so obsessed with Sofiya. And yes, she is "his" 😉
I'm honestly a bit "afraid" about the next books in the series. I mean, there are still her two sisters and his twin brothers. Also, his sister and her brother... If this series continues the way it started 🙈 But I would love it. It would make the whole family dynamic even more chaotic and crazy 🤣
Btw, if you don't like the f-word, don't read this book. Because it's A LOT!!! Almost 500 times 😎 🤣
Thanks to the author, @theboldbookclub , and @netgalley for trusting me with an ARC 🩷
This is book two in the Mafia Rivals series and I was so excited to see who would finally bring the dark and deadly Rafaelle to his knees.
Rafaelle is his family’s enforcer and underboss, a man with a reputation that makes everyone step back. He lives for vengeance and nothing will stop him from settling the score for his mother’s death. When Sofiya crosses his path at the worst possible moment and forces him to pause, something shifts. Instead of taking her out, he decides they might be useful to each other.
Sofiya has spent years being used as her family’s weapon. She never really had a choice, but when she ends up trapped in a situation she believes she can control, Rafa flips her world upside down. She can either follow his lead or risk everything. The question becomes whether she can truly betray the only family she has ever known.
Rafa is so dark, but seeing him soften for Sofiya was everything. The way he lets his guard down with her and shows her what real devotion looks like was so hot. Sofiya giving in and letting him take control while also finding her own strength was the perfect balance. When they finally shut the world out and allowed themselves to connect, it turned into something neither of them was prepared to feel.
If you love a dark mafia romance where two powerful enforcers from feuding families collide and fall hard, this one needs to be on your list.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Boldwood Book for the chance to read this amazing book.
⟡ Tropes and Rating ⟡ 🖤 Mafia Romance ⚔️ Rival Families 💥 Enemies To Lovers 🤺 He Trains Her 🔥 Insta Lust
3/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️
⟡ Review ⟡ Rafaelle and Sofiya come from rivaling Mafia families. He is bent on avenging his mother’s death. She stops his plans to kill her brother, ends up his captive and he ultimately takes her under his wing. They embark on a journey to finding her grandfather, the root cause of a lot of pain caused to both of them.
He is a bit of a psychopath but in a charming way. She is struggling with her role as her family’s assassin that was forced upon her. At times I was not sure if she tries to play the badass or if she actually wants to be this person. Together with the fact that we don’t get to see Sofiya in action a lot or learn about how she was actually trained, it feels like a lost opportunity to create a truly strong and kickass FMC.
I really enjoyed how the two met and formed a connection but the story lost some steam along the way. The action picks up again in the final quarter but a tighter connection between the romance and the mission and a more bigger climax could have created more urgency and tension.
Thank you NetGalley and Zara Cox for the free ARC. All thoughts are my own.
This is the 2nd book in the Mafia Rivals series and is the story of Rafaele and Sofiya. One is the Enforcer, the last face you see when there's no one to hear the screams. And the other one is the Assassin and her job is to keep her family safe, so to stop Rafaele from taking his revenge for his mother death. But he is like always, 2 steps ahead and he overpowered her and makes her agree to a 30 day truce. It was an awsome enemies to lovers mafia romance. Zara did a good job with this one too. I wanted to see a little bit more from Sofiya, how she really was a badass assassin. But I loved how independent and fierce and capable she was. Rafaele was great too, a good brother, and a very obsessed and possessive man for Sofiya. The chemistry and connection between these two was pure fire and so so good.
I loved this story so much, and I am looking for the next book in the series too.
Thank you Boldwood Books and Zara Cox for the opportunity to read the book in advance. This is my honest and only opinion.
This story pulled me in from the very first page. Set in a world where loyalty, power, and bloodshed define every choice, two rival families have been enemies for as long as they can remember. When their top assassins cross paths, it isn’t just hatred fueling their connection—it’s something much more dangerous.
With betrayal and blood always around the corner, trust is nearly impossible. And yet, against all odds, they begin to find it in each other. Their chemistry is raw, conflicted, and passionate, making every stolen glance and secret meeting feel like a forbidden risk worth taking.
What I loved most is how the author balanced the intensity of mafia politics with the vulnerability of two broken souls finding love in the darkest of places. The constant tension between protecting their families and surrendering to their hearts kept me hooked. The romance isn’t soft—it’s fierce, messy, and beautifully complicated.
I love the idea of two assassins from rival families finding love, and that's exactly what happens here. Sofiya is just the kind of heroine I love, strong, self-reliant and not dependent on a man. That doesn't stop her finding her match with the Enforcer, Rafaele. These two made such a good couple that complemented one another excellently. This is the second book in the Mafia Rivals series and while the previous books characters do make an appearance, I'm sure that this would work fine if you hadn't read book one. I actually preferred this second installment, or perhaps it just suited me more at the moment. I'm sure that we've got more to come from these families soon and I'm looking forward to reading what's next for these Mafia Rivals. I received a complimentary copy of this book through NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and given voluntarily.
I was lucky enough to receive a ARC of this book. This is a spicy mafia romance that delivers. The two central characters are the enforcers for their respective families so it’s far from a smooth ride. The book has a decent plot that keeps you reading and doesn’t depend upon sex to carry it, unlike some books in this genre.
Sofiya has never had a choice, her life has been dictated to her from her early teens so she struggles with the family conflict and sense of duty as she falls for Rafaelle. He, in turn, has to work through his growing feelings towards her and the vulnerability that ensues.
This is a book about conflict and learning to trust in a messed up environment. The sex feels real and raw as they come together, struggling to make sense of their lives and the conflicted family dynamics around them.
It’s the first book I’ve read by Zara Cox and it won’t be the last.
Sofiya and Rafaelle are the protectors of their families, trained assassins, but their families are sworn enemies, and so are they.
But there is something that draws them both together, and soon the tables are turned, and Sofiya will need to choose between love or blood, as the war between these rival gangs gets messy.
Cox gives us sexy and exciting vibes in a narrative full of danger and lust. I loved the training and the missions, honestly, never thought someone getting ready for a mission could be such a turn on.
There were several scenes that I found sentimental and heartwarming; they had me in tears.
This was another I could not put down, and I am absolutely hooked; I have been hunting for the blurb on book three.
Pierced MMC = spice that's spicing. Rafaele was hot, dirty, and had quite the mouth. The best part about this was that even though the spice was super hot, their relationship was developed so beautifully and you could see how they were trying to reconcile how they felt vs family expectations regarding feuds.
I do wish the plot outside of the romance was better developed. When we first meet Sofiya (and the book bio) she appears to be this experienced assassin. However, this quickly falls flat. After the fun captive/one bed trope, he decides to take her on as an unofficial protégé. She ended up being just along for the ride.
Their love story was messy, beautiful and empowering. Their journey is worth the read.
**ARC Review received from NetGalley to read and review**
This is the second book in the Mafia Rivals series, and I would definitely recommend reading The Mastermind before reading this book in order to appreciate the storyline in The Enforcer.
I really enjoyed how the story and the characters flowed from the first book through to this one. We were introduced to both of the main characters in the previous book, but I loved how they were developed in this book, in particular Sofiya. I love how she is full of surprises and doesn't need 'saving'.
I don't usually read Mafia books. However, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this series so far, and I am looking forward to reading The Savage when that is released. Zara Cox is a new author for me, and I will definitely be looking at reading her other books.
I would highly recommend reading the first book in the series to understand some of the crumbs that were shown in this book. That being said I loved every second from the beginning. What happens when you put two hot sassy assassins together, they will explode of course but in a good way. I loved seeing the emotions behind the cold blooded killers and how they affected one another. For a mafia romance this had everything you needed. The little twist that I personally had not seen in a mafia romance was adding the Formula 1 racing. Im sure this tidbit was better explained in book one but overall very good. Also very spicy, they couldn’t keep their hands off each other and I was here for it.
Thank you Net Galley & Zara Cox for this Arc. All opinion and thought are my own.
My only question after reading this book was why haven't I read a book by Zara Cox before?? I loved this one! This was a fantastic dark, mafia romance! This book held my attention from beginning to end and that does not always happen. The storyline was unique and everything I wanted to read but didn't even know it. The writing was great. Lots of conflict and tension to keep me engaged the whole time. The spice was nice and steamy, and the chemistry between Sofiya and Rafaele was scorching. This book was everything I was hoping for and more! I can not wait to go back and read book one in this series and check out Zara's back list. Five stars and I'm hungry for more. I received this book from Boldwood books and Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Former military man turned family enforcer Rafaelle has a reputation for being a proficient killing machine, something he’s quite proud of. Now that he knows who is responsible for his mother’s death nothing will stop him from seeking revenge. When rival assassin Sofiya catches Rafaelle off guard they agree to a thirty day truce.
A lot can happen in thirty days.
Rafa was dark, unhinged and utterly obsessed with Sofiya and I loved seeing him let his guard down for her.
Sofiya was a strong FMC, which I love, and she had a lot of growth throughout the book. She trained with Rafa and came to see her worth and how capable she was.
If you love dark mafia romance between two broken souls from rival families then add this to your TBR!
This is book 2 in the Mafia Rivals series but can be read as a standalone but if you like a dark romance with mafia theme then Zara Cox writes really good one. Rafaele is a hot mafia man enforcer with the best dirty talk ever, Sofiya is an assassin from a rival mafia family and the 2 together are a force to be reckoned with. There is an overlap between book 1 with what happened previously but it’s clearly set out so easy to understand. Brutal, violent and steamy just what I like in a mafia romance and this book delivers on all those. Like the previous book it also features F1 racing in it too which a refreshing difference to the usual mafia romance reads. Throughly enjoyed this book.
This is book 2 in the Mafia Rivals series and continues with Rafaelle and Sofiya.
The push and pull of these two, I love it! I swear I do!! His bossiness and her IDGAF attitude to him are just so perfect, I adore them to the ends of my days.
Two assassins, beautiful banter and teasing, rival families, and the urge for revenge...this is a heady cocktail and I am here for it. Where does the ingrained hatred stop so that the passion can be set free???
Reading Rafa and Sofiyas story, working through each others issues and gaining trust for the other was a roller coaster I didn't want to get off. I can't wait to see what happens in book 3.
This picks up where it left off from book one and it didn’t disappoint. You will instantly feel Sofiya’s pain and desire to be more. When she is determined to do something that could change her entire future, she does it with style and skill. She was made into a killer but did anyone ever ask her if that was what she wanted? Is Rafa going to be the one that gets her to change her mind? When things start to develop and form she is determined to not back down and go in with her whole heart and mind. I loved this story and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
The Enforcer by Zara Cox. Mafia Rivals book 2. I really enjoyed this book. I loved the cover and blurb of this book. This is the 3rd book I've read by this author. Book 2 being one. I loved Rafaelle and sofiya. Especially how they were with each other. I loved the nickname he gave her tigra. I liked the writing style and the story. This was steamy and violent. I loved it. This was full of action. From start to finish. I can't wait for the next book. Highly recommend.
The second in the Mafia Rivals series, this could easily be read as a stand alone. This book features Rafael, his family's Enforcer, and Sofiya - her family's trained killer. Rival mafia families with a shared hatred of each other, but when Rafael thwarts Sofiya's attempt on his life and instead takes her hostage, a lust-filled relationship begins.
This was a typical enemies to lovers story with the addition of the Mafia rivalry story playing out underneath. It is definitely a steamy read!
Thanks to the publishers and Net Galley for a review copy.
This started out pretty hot - with 2 rival mafia families in a standoff and then it descended into rom-com zaniness. Like 30% in the sexual chemistry was replaced with 3 stooges, cartoon humor. I don't even know what happened. Also - I wasn't into the alpha aggressive energy Sofiya was trying to giving off. I DNF's it at 44% - could not take any more. Like, one of her friends actually says BRB out loud.
