⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Unbreakable Hearts is a deeply emotional, character-driven romantic suspense that perfectly showcases Em Petrova’s strength in writing wounded heroes, resilient heroines, and love that feels hard-earned and real.

Gabe Thorne is the kind of hero who stays with you. A military veteran shaped by trauma and healing, his journey doesn’t magically end once therapy does—and that honesty makes him incredibly compelling. His return to Black Heart Ranch feels less like retreat and more like recognition: sometimes healing means choosing the place where you’re allowed to be whole. Gabe’s quiet strength, protectiveness, and unwavering loyalty make him impossible not to root for.

Felicity St. James is equally captivating. Her bookstore isn’t just a business—it’s her identity, her risk, her heart on display. Watching her fight to protect what she built, even as fear and loss threaten to take it all away, is powerful. She’s not fragile, but she is human, and the way she lets Gabe see her vulnerability makes their connection feel authentic and intimate.

The romance unfolds slowly and naturally, grounded in trust rather than instant passion. The chemistry simmers, but what truly binds them is how they steady each other—Gabe offering safety without control, Felicity offering purpose without pressure. Their relationship feels mature, respectful, and deeply emotional.

The suspense element adds real stakes. The hidden secret tucked inside an old book is a clever touch, tying Felicity’s world directly into the danger and keeping the plot engaging without overshadowing the emotional core. The threats feel real, the tension escalates smoothly, and Gabe’s protective instincts never cross into over-the-top territory.

What stands out most is the theme of rebuilding. This is a story about second chances—not just in love, but in identity, belonging, and self-worth. Petrova doesn’t rush healing or minimize trauma. Instead, she shows how love can grow in the cracks, becoming something strong precisely because it was forged through struggle.

Unbreakable Hearts lives up to its title. It’s tender, intense, and ultimately hopeful—a reminder that some hearts aren’t made to stay broken, and the strongest love is often born from survival. ❤️.

5 STARS ++ So sweet and romantic
Gabe Thorne, a retired Marine, is a man working on his issues. After serving multiple duties in hostile lands, he’s seen too many horrific things that have left a mark. Gabe came to the Black Heart Ranch to quiet the sounds in his head. When Gabe and his therapy team thought he was more in control, Gabe headed home, but Gabe’s a changed man. Turns out what he needs is the quiet mountains and the ranch work found at the Black Heart Ranch in Willow Brook, Wyoming.
Filicity St. James owns the local bookstore in downtown Willow Brook. Everything about books is her thing. Business is good until the main exit to town is temporarily closed for repairs, and downtown turns ghost town. If that wasn’t bad enough, someone broke into her shop and tore it apart. Filicity turns to her sister Honor, the safety at the Black Heart Ranch…and into a new ex-warrior, Gabe. With most of the Black Heart Security team on assignment, Carson asks Gabe to handle Filicity’s protection. Gabe and Filicity have an instant personal connection, a deep friendship that quickly grows into more. Gabe is using his skills learned on the battlefield to keep Filicity safe and solve the mystery of her stalker. What would someone want with her little book collection?
Their romance is so beautiful and sexy. I love how kind and old-fashioned Filicity is. Gabe is the same. He is all gentleman and protector, and I love that. This story will be on my re-read book list for me. I love so many things about this series. The ranch and the diverse group of people who really care about each other, about helping the veterans, and caring for the land and the animals. I received a free ARC copy of this story from Booksprout, and these are my thoughts. Linda

Another heartfelt and thrilling case for Black Heart Security. Gabe Thorne has been living near his sister and working for her husband at his garage. Still trying to recover both physically and mentally after leaving the military and time spent at Black Heart Ranch. When he feels as if things are closing in on him, he gets into his truck and drives and without any set plan, arrives back at the ranch. He knows that the owner of the ranch, Carson Malone, will welcome him back. Helping at the ranch, he sees Felicity St. James. He knows that her sister is married and now lives at the ranch. Arriving at her bookstore, Felicity noticed that the door was slightly ajar, but was not prepared for the complete devastation to the interior. Her business is already in financial distress; how will she deal with the expense to repair the damage? Gabe notices that Felicity seems upset and when he learns what has happened to her store, he offers to help her. Soon they realize that whoever is targeting her is not done as her home and car are targeted. Cases of books, stored at her home, and a missing journal will give them the clue they need for Black Heart Security to get involved. As he spends time with her, Gabe realizes that his feelings, for her, are much deeper than friendship. Could she ever see him as more than a recovering veteran? Gabe Thorne was working at his brother-in-law's garage, but was unsettled since he left veteran programs at Malone's ranch outside of Willowbrook Wyoming. He wanted the peace and quiet of the ranch more than anything else, where he felt at home and was welcomed back...Felicity St. James was owner of the town bookstore in Willowbrook, coming to work on a spring morning to find the store broken into...and this was icing on cake as since the interstate remodel closed the town exit, no tourists, so business slow and she had to lay off her employees...but who would target a bookstore and not take the petty cash, just trash the premises...Gabe was handling some of calls and paperwork for Black Heart Security since several others on job and when Felicity's sister Honor who had relationship with Gray Malone, advised of break-in...Gabe went to check it out with Carson Malone...and stayed to help with new locks, new cameras and stacking books to reshelve...getting to know each other...and when another break-in showed on camara doorbell, Gabe right there with her...both learning to trust the other and learning more about each other...but could love result from trying to discover who is after her and why??? Gabe Thorne is a military veteran who arrived at the Black Heart Therapy Ranch a broken man.  Healed, he left the ranch in pursuit of finding his place in this world. He tried settling into life near his sister, but his PTSD and his heart just wasn't happy there. One evening, he found himself behind the wheel driving with no known destination in mind. His heart, though, led him back to the Black Heart Ranch.

Felicity St James is the owner of the local bookstore. The recent closing of the interstate exit for repairs was slowly strangling the life out of her little business with  its bringing nothing but lackluster sales. Her lifelong dream was being extinguished.

When danger appears at her door, Felicity turns to her sister for refuge. What she finds is a new family and  home amongst the Malone siblings and their partners. Gabe is asked to protect Felicity. What first started as a job for him quickly turned into protecting the woman who has stolen his heart. Will Gabe be able to keep her safe? Will he discover the truth behind the rash of break ins connected with her?

This book is the perfect mash up of suspense with a healthy dose of heart warming romance. Gabe and Felicity finding each other is like their both finally finding their home. Deep inner peace, contentment and happiness can be felt oozing from the pages. A wonderful read!

I was so extremely pleased with this book as it was addictive and the perfect read for my break.

THis is the story of two people who are broken and trying to find themselves, but did not count on finding each other and love at the same time.

Gabe is an ex military who has been in the Black Hearts Ranch program and left to find himself, but is back once again as he is having issues with his PTSD and truly feeling as part of society. He is given a case that involves Felicity, and slowly he sees his life transform thanks to her.

Felicity has put all her work, life, and money into her bookstore, but sales have been declining recently, she is afraid of losing it, but the fears grow when danger comes knocking at her door, so she will need protection and help to solve this,

THe chemistry between Gabe and Felicity is electric, their passion is steamy, but it is their time together, their conversations, their insights that starts to make them open to each other. Gabe finds peace, healing, a sort of redemption, a place to belong. Felicity finds protection, companionship, trust, support, and feeling needed. There is drama and intrigue to their love (something about a book ) but it only helps to draw them closer together.

A great read!.

Gabe and Felicity’s story is book 8 of the Black Heart Security series, you do not need to have read the first 7 to enjoy and understand the book, but it is best read in order to understand how all the people are interconnected. It’s a humorous, sweet and at times hot story with quite a bit of action as Gabe helps Felicity find out who broke into her book shop and tried to break into her house. They have a heated encounter during the book shop clean up and away the story goes ! We have all of the characters we know and love from previous books, the most notable being Navy, the “therapy baby” at Black Heart Ranch’s veteran’s retreat for vets with PTSD and other traumatic injuries from war. I adore the premise of these books and each one, including this one is a testament to helping veterans find their way back to being healthy, happy and whole when they come back broken from war. 5✨’s !!.

Their story was written in fate

This is book 8 in the Black Heart Security series. Each book and set of characters just gets better and better.

Gabe and Felicity just make you believe in finding your person. Gabe finds himself returning the Black Heart not because he broke but because no where else has felt like he belonged. Felicity is struggling to keep her business going when she keeps getting hit with break ins and vandalism. Gabe remembers her and once he sees her again he can’t deny the pull he feels. Can he protect her from what ever if after her wihtout his own past catching up.

This is full of heart, spice and every book lovers secret desire. Gabe is strong and protective but he still lets her stand on her own. This is a book boyfriend that we will remember for a long time to come.

An engaging read from the first page as Felicity discovered her bookstore had been broken into the day after she had to let her two employees go. She drove blindly to Black Heart Ranch to be with her sister, Honor, where she saw Gabe had returned to the ranch. He was not exactly having trouble away from the ranch. He just was not settling down like, he should be. So one day after work, he got in his truck and started driving with no purpose ending at Black Heart Ranch. Carson was happy to see him as the rest of Black Heart Security was in California. Carson could use the help. Gage started work in the office the next day, and he was a big help with the expansion project. But his first real case was protecting Felicity. They had an undeniable attraction the moment, they met. He became her shadow as suspense grew around them. The romance got hotter and heavier by the day.

Unbreakable Hearts hit that perfect balance of emotion, suspense, and slow-building romance. Gabe is a wounded veteran trying to figure out where he belongs, and Felicity is a determined small-business owner barely holding things together. Watching them lean on each other felt real and earned.

I loved the friends-to-lovers vibe and the found-family atmosphere at Black Heart Ranch. Gabe’s quiet protectiveness and Felicity’s resilience made their connection feel steady instead of rushed. The suspense element added just enough tension to keep the pages turning without overshadowing the romance.

This story is about second chances, standing your ground, and choosing love even when it’s scary. If you enjoy heartfelt military romances with strong characters, emotional depth, and a satisfying HEA, this one is well worth the read.

The 8th book in the Black Heart Security series, Unbreakable Hearts tells the story of Gabe, a returning veteran who is trying to navigate his way through PTSD and a world outside a war zone. Gabe's protective instincts rise to the surface when he discovers Felicity's bookshop has been trashed, followed by a home invasion. And the story takes off...
Em Petrova continues to deliver fresh plots and engaging characters in this series. She writes steamy romance (aka open door bedroom scenes) and entertaining prose.
The only critique I have is this: I did not find it believable that a toxicology report would be readily available nor that an estate of significant monetary value would be overturned in a day or two.
I always enjoy an Em Petrova novel and Unbreakable Hearts did not disappoint!
4 stars.

A mystery surrounding a bookshop, what is more poetic. A small bookshop is in crisis and to make matters worse, a break-in falters Felicity’s positive perspective that she could recover once the highway is finished and traffic picks up.
Gabe, a vet who completed the program at Blackheart has been floundering and an aimless late night drive returns him to the place he could find silence. But when he sees the frighten woman in the driveway trying to be strong, his protective instincts and something else drives him to do and be more for her.

The characters are so personable, the story keeps you engaged and the mystery keeps you guessing until the final chapters. Another awesome story from Em that will keep you coming back for more.

His first assignment?

Or his forever assignment?

Gabe is back and whilst some may see that as a failure or a backslide, I see it more as a man who knows where he needs to be. He breathes better, relaxes easier and feels like he fits in at the Ranch, even before he is asked to join Black Heart Security. We see a different man once Carson hands out his first mission, like slipping on an old coat Gabe becomes part of the team, a member of the brotherhood and they will serve and protect. I love seeing Gabe and Felicity together, from the first time their eyes meet they just "click". An understanding, an acceptance, a spark and a love of books, they help ground each other in a way neither knew they needed but both embrace. They may have threats and danger following them, but together they also have books and dreams....who could ask for more?
A great read on Kindle Unlimited.

The Black Heart Security series portrays veterans struggling with PTSD and work of different therapists and animals who help them cope with their turmoil. The series is not cookie cutter, nor is it superficial.

Gabe is a Marine struggling to find his after his career. Felicity is struggling to keep her bookstore open after a downturn in business. They meet Carson brings him along to investigate a break-in at her story.
Their connection is instantaneous. Felicity calms Gabe while he is caring and supportive.
The story develops rapidly with a surprising event and a HEA ending.
A wonderful read.

Gabe has been working at the garage for a while but he doesn’t feel home here. He feels like he needs to be somewhere else. He gets in his truck and drives to Willowbrook, Wyoming, which feels like home. He pulls up to the Black Heart Ranch where veterans came to get re-acclimated to the real world. The Black Heart Security main office is here. Felicity owns and operates a bookstore in town but it’s not doing well. She is going to have to close. When someone burglarizes her bookstore she goes to the Black Heart Ranch where her sister works. Gabe is helping out with security at the ranch so he helps Felicity but there is someone else who wants something that Felicity has. This is a great book.

This was a lovely story of Gabe and Felicity's journey to find what they never realized they needed. It all started with Gabe's unconscious drive back to Blackheart Ranch where he had "graduated" from months prior. He thought it was the peace of the hills he was missing but it was actually that he had become an integral part of a non-blood family. Felicity's bookshop was struggling as were other shops in the town due to the closing of the Interstate exit but then the targeted attacks began that were specific to her. Gabe steps in as her protector but their instant connection leads them to their HEA.

Unbreakable Hearts is book 8 in the Black Heart Security series by Em Petrova 4.5 stars

Still feeling unsettled in civilian life, Gabe Thorne takes to the rod to clear his head and ends up back at the Black Heart ranch that helps former soldiers transition to civilian life. This ranch offers him peace and quiet. When Felicity St. James show up to the ranch he sees something happened by the way she holds herself…apparently her bookshop was broken into and trashed. There’s chemistry between them even with no words spoken. What happens next is building trust, suspense, found family, finding your special someone, steamy and finding their HEA together!

Gabe and Felicity’s story is a standout addition to the Black Heart Security series! While it’s Book 8, it works perfectly as a standalone, though the interconnected characters make you want to go back and binge the first seven.

The chemistry is instant—a "cleanup" at Felicity’s vandalized bookshop turns into a heated encounter that sets the pages on fire! But beyond the steam and the mystery of who is targeting Felicity, the true heart of this book is the Black Heart Ranch. The focus on veterans recovering from PTSD and war injuries is handled with so much care. Plus, seeing "therapy baby" Navy again was a total highlight. It’s a beautiful testament to finding wholeness after being broken. Highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense with a soul!

Gabe tried starting a new life living close to his sister and her family, and working for his brother-in-law. But he just couldn't find peace and quiet, so one night he got in his truck and started driving. It was no big surprise when he ended up back at Black Heart Ranch.

Felicity loves books but things are looking dire for her little bookshop, to the point where she can no longer afford to have any employees. Then someone breaks into her bookshop and totally trashes the place but doesn't take anything.

As Gabe and Felicity spend time together, the attraction between them grows as does his protective side when the danger escalates. Felicity's one-time rival turned friend left her a precious gift that inadvertently led to danger. Until the culprit was caught.

The MMC is ex military, suffering with PTSD and returns to the ranch where he first went to heal. The FMC owns a bookshop and turns to her sister and the ranch when her shop is deliberately and completely destroyed following a break in. Who would burgle a bookshop..what would it hold of great value, beyond stock of books and petty cash wasn't touched. Police say it is vandalism, but there seems to be more to it.
Gabe is a natural protector and Felicity is assuming and attractive. Their personalities suit each other and something between them develops and strengthens as the drama and mystery surrounds them.

Gabe and Felicity take you on a tender, heartfelt journey of self-discovery and connection. Their attraction unfolds beautifully, layered with vulnerability and simmering chemistry. I loved how Gabe comes to realize that Felicity grounds him and brings him calm, just as he offers her safety and security in return. The ranch itself feels like home—radiating warmth, love, and unwavering support from everyone who lives there.

The danger is subtle and sneaky, slipping in when you least expect it, adding tension without overpowering the emotional core. This is an emotional journey home, perfectly woven with romance, quiet strength, and just enough suspense to keep you turning pages.

I loved everything about this story. It’s so full of emotion and I fell in love with Felicity and Gabe. I loved how they found each other when they both needed that special person in their life and I loved the special nickname he had for her. The story is well written and captured my attention from the very beginning. It’s great that previous characters appeared throughout the story and I have always loved little Navy. This is a story that will pull at your heart strings and that makes for a story worth reading.

Gabe and Felicity were so right for each other.

Bookshop owner Felicity was being targeted and Gabe a prospective new member of the Blackheart team is assigned to protect her.

Gabe was having a hard time fitting in when he turns up back at the ranch and he is needing to find that thing to help. Once he meets Felicity though, she quiets the noise. But it's that attraction that builds that made the story for me.

Beautifully written, suspenseful, intense, but team spirit alive and well in this book and that i love. Perfect plot and really liked these characters. So great a story!.

Gabe has been working at his sister's husband garage, but things just don't feel right to him so one night he gets in his truck and just starts to drive ending up at Black Heart Ranch where he first came after getting out of the military to get his life back and try to live a normal life. Felicity owns the bookstore in town and may have to close but, someone has broken into the store and causes a lot of damage looking for something. Who and why would someone do this and what are they looking for? Gabe is trying to help her figure it out. Danger, suspense and finding that person who makes you whole.
