Another one of those matchmaking plots where the heroine is hired to look for a suitable wife for the guy and attraction grows from their constant close company despite her not fitting his wifely specs. It reminded me of Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ book Match Me If You Can because of the humorous barbs between H/h and the fast pace of the book. There never was a dull moment in the book given the accidental encounters with family members when they were both trying to meet clandestinely. But LM book is shorter and the hero is not obnoxiously cocky like the one in SEP book.
But what I missed in this book is the “awwwhhh” moment. LM books distinguish themselves in the romantic gestures the hero does unbeknownst to the heroine which would signify that he had loved her earlier on. In this book it’s supposed to be the Lalique vase which didn’t do it for me. Sure, it was an expensive vase but anyone could buy a vase from a department store. Plus, a Lalique is akin to a Lladro figurine -- they're presents for "granny" or a retiring officemate, not exactly a girlfriend or special someone.
The company dinner that they had arranged together could have passed off as a climatic moment especially when a guest noted that they were both studiously avoiding looking at each other. But the romance was quickly dispelled after his crass invitation to an affair.

Awalnya iseng, kaya apa sih, novel tentang CEO yang biasanya ramai ditulis di platform2 menulis. Ternyata ga sereceh yang kuduga. Cerita di novel ini malah menarik, ga menye-menye, ga saru juga. Meskipun konflik pernikahan pura-pura itu terlalu mainstream, penulis membuatnya lebih berbobot melalui dialog sarkas yang lucu. Malah pas sampai ending, kurang banyak ceritanya. Entah kenapa review di sini kurang oke. Bagus kok, ceritanya... . :)

synopsis:
macy works for a recruiting agency. one day, her boss calls her in, and informs her that derek wants her to put her recruiting skills to the test and find him a wife. it will help him imporove his image so that he can become ceo. macy reluctantly agrees, and moves through derek's society to cull the best from all the prospects. in order to do that, though, she has to pose as derek's interest. strangely enough, none of derek's prospective wives are good enough for macy.
what i liked: derek and macy had a cute relationship.
what i didn't like: yet another matchmaker who falls for their client.

Liked it for the growing friendship between the H/h and their word play and quirky comebacks to each other.
I think the hero's mum should have clued in ( and clued him in) when she saw his reaction to the h was so strong instead of him stumbling around with no clue... Anyhoo, I'll probably reread this one.

Tidak terlalu banyak adegan romantis seperti yang saya harapkan dari novel-novel HQ pada umumnya. Hubungan antara Derek dan Macey terbilang natural dan realistis--sangat beralasan dari satu bab ke bab lain. Namun, ending ceritanya membuat saya kecewa. Mengapa setergesa itu? Tidak ada pelampiasan emosional tokoh, tidak ada adegan sentimentil yang membuat saya tersenyum lebar di akhir cerita.

Satu hal yang saya suka dalam novel ini adalah chit chat sarkas antara Macey dan Derek. Konfliknya sudah dibangun dengan baik. Sayangnya penyelesaiannya terkesan terburu-buru.

Chemistry Derek dan Marcey kurang "klik".
Konflik muter2 dan ga nunjukin progres yg signifikan. Padahal sdh bisa ditebak jika semua wanita yg diseleksi itu hanya sia2 belaka. Krn jelas2 siapa lagi yg dibutuhkan Derek utk melengkapi hidupnya klo bukan Marcy, si pengatur dan pemilih wanita2 yg layak jadi calon istri Derek.
Gegara alur yg kurang berkembang itu, ane loncat2 alias ga berurutan lembar per lembar baca ni cerita.
