For a damn near novella length book, this book packs a punch! Not just with the storytelling, but the amount of action and character building that’s done in just 225 pages, it’s nothing short of miraculous. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this! (Also the weather just decided to have a huge storm RIGHT during the big fight scenes, and let me tell you, it was damn near perfect timing.) However, and this is light notes there Ms. Julie Nelson. To have such a short and lovely read end on a cliffhanger!? That is a bold choice! But you have me hooked, I can’t wait for the next one to come out.
I won’t belabor the plot points here, but I do want to call out a few things that really stood out for me. I really enjoyed how our FMC, Nisrine, was presented in the novel. Nisrine comes across strong and smart, it was refreshing to see a main fae character that didn’t need someone else to come along to fix her. Her story is fast and furious, but it doesn’t come across as lacking in any way. There’s a very light romantic subplot with her childhood friend and protector, Seren, that is adorable and sweet. Even when faced with a small complication from a new friend, the way it was handled was respectful and refreshing. Nisrine stood on her own, brought people to her, left those that didn’t behind her, and did her best by those who allied to her. This was a fast and super enjoyable read! Now, I just have to wait patiently to read the second book!

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to arc read this book. This was my first fae book. The first chapter grabbed me right till the end. The author was very descriptive in her writing nothing was left out. it made you feel like you were right there. Can't wait for the next book.

In On Fallen Wings by Julie Nelson, Nisrine, the fae princess, is still grieving for the loss of her mother, long after she is gone, vying to get information from her father who seems to pretend as if she never existed. When he hints that he may have had something to do with her disappearance, Nisrine is determined to go to the human world to find her. The only thing making her pause being Seren, her childhood friend, who pleads for her to stay with him. However, his comfort is not enough to dissuade her. Stepping through the gate, she sacrifices one of the main characteristics that makes her fae: her wings.
Once on the other side, she meets several allies who help her to navigate this unknown world and train to use unfamiliar magic while learning as much as she can to find out more about her mother. Meanwhile, back in her realm, her father learns of her abandonment and will stop at nothing to force her back through the gate, to the life she was born for.
I felt like Nisrine matures very quickly once faced with the obstacles of the human world. She starts out very impulsive but transforms into a strong and courageous leader with the help of her training. The book was very quick paced and had a lot happening in a short period of time but then ended fairly abruptly, which was jarring, but gives a good starting point for the sequel.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing of this book is foot on the accelerator. Lots of fantasy action and movement in the story, making it a quick and engaging read.
Because of that pacing, there were a few characters that I would love to spend more time with in the second book. I think getting more back story and the lore behind Elaila and Dade, and even going deeper with Corvan would be amazing.
This initial entry sets us up for a fantastical adventure in Constalatia and I’m excited to continue diving deeper.

Thank you so much to Fable & Fern co for this eARC! This book immediately draws you in with its fast pace and vivid world building. I loved Nisrine’s character and how she wasn’t a “typical” princess. She absolutely knew what she was going to do and once her mind was set, she followed through. The book itself was fast paced, but not too fast to where it made it hard to comprehend. It’s a very solid read and I can’t wait for book 2!

There aren’t enough stars for this one. From the first page I knew this story would stay with me. It’s dark, lyrical, and heartbreakingly beautiful. The kind of book that makes you feel everything all at once and leaves you quiet when it ends. Every emotion is raw, love, grief, guilt, and the desperate hope that somehow light can still find its way through the cracks.
The writing is breathtaking. It pulls you in with every line and makes the world feel alive. You can almost feel the air shift, smell the rain, and hear the wings in the dark. The relationships are complex and deeply human. There’s a moment where a character says “Even angels fall, and when they do, they fall harder than anyone else.” and I had to stop and take a breath. It hit straight to the heart.
What I loved most is how this story feels both magical and painfully real. The characters are flawed and fragile but full of strength in their own broken ways. The ending hurt, but it was the kind of hurt that felt honest.

This fantasy was fast paced from beginning to end, throwing you into the world head first!
This book features fae princess Nisrine who begins the book questioning the sudden unexplained disappearance of her mother. Her father, the king, doesn’t seem overly concerned and seems to mostly just crave her silence on the matter and her submission to his ironclad ruling.
But that isn’t good enough for Nisrine, and she, ends up journeying farther than anyone else, and sacrificing such a big part of her identity (her wings) to travel into the forbidden mortal realm for answers.
Her mother always told her stories about a distant past before the war and the separation of the realms, where the fae and humans lived in harmony, even intermarrying, without the fear and jealousy that exists now. So with this in mind, Nisrine needs to know if it’s possible that harmony could exist again if someone is willing to step out in faith and make the first step. She also wonders if the search for these answers is what pulls her away.
She has an amazing group of friends and followers who are loyal to her and help her along the way, as her father pretty much stops treating her as an heir and treats her as a problem that needs to be hunted down and eradicated. There is unique use of magic, love realized and unrequited love, and strong friendships that will brave unfashionable dangers to be there for one another.
The ending will have you literally clamoring for book two, but this author did an amazing job at creating a world full of magic and intrigue, that sweeps you along with a need to know more after every page.
I’m definitely a fan now, and eagerly awaiting more by this author!

This was such a fun surprise! I read a lot of fantasy, and lately I’ve noticed that even books I enjoy can start to feel a little familiar. This one genuinely felt different from anything else I’ve read recently, and I mean that in the best possible way.
I really enjoyed Nisrine as a main character. She’s strong and capable without falling into the same “badass FMC” mold we see so often in fantasy. I also loved that the story didn’t feel like it needed to rely heavily on romance to keep me invested. There is romance here, but it complements Nisrine’s story rather than becoming the entire story.
The pacing is FAST. There’s a surprising amount of action, worldbuilding, and character development packed into such a short book. At times I actually wished it were a little longer, just because I would’ve happily spent more time with these characters and let some of the moments breathe a bit more.
But what really stood out to me was simply how refreshing it felt. It’s getting harder to find fantasy that doesn’t immediately remind me of three other books I’ve already read, and this one managed to have its own identity.
And then THAT ENDING. 😑 Apparently we’re just ending books like that now, Julie Nelson?? Can’t wait for the next one!

This book had me hooked from start to finish. I read it in one day (sacrificing my sleep) because I didn’t want to put it down.
There’s a romance aspect, but it’s a small part of the story. The main focus is the plot of a runaway fae princess, rebellion, and a battle against ancient/evil magic.
The story starts out in the Fae realm with a princess wanting to find her mother, who she believes is in the human realm. This leads to her father, the king, hunting her down… and not out of love or fatherly concern. The story expands into fae, vampires, humans, and even a fae/human hybrid working together to stop two dark forces - an evil king and ancient, dark magic.
This is fantasy centered around rebellion and war with a splash of slow burn from friends to lovers. The ending took me by surprise and had me audibly gasp. I highly recommend this read as it’s easy to follow, has fun characters, interesting plot, and keeps your attention the whole way through.

For a smut free book, I was shocked to say how much I found myself enjoying this. It’s a dark fantasy set in the storyline of multiple realms. A singular fae princess fighting against everything that not only threatens her being but everything and everyone she loved. Secrets, horrors, magical coercion all coming to light at her will to expose the treachery her father; the king had buried.
The story line is amazing and keeps you hooked, between the yearning from Seren…the tensions with her father, the loyalty from those who followed her endeavors I couldn’t get enough! A rebellion beautifully written and I cannot wait to read book two!

I really enjoyed the plot and writing style of this book. I never felt like it was going too slow or too fast. Even though the FMC didn’t end up with who I wanted her to, I have to admit that, storyline wise, it did make more sense for her to end up with who she did. I wanted the characters to have a little more depth. I do see how third person narrative could be hard to achieve that level of depth. I highly recommend to those that like fantasy books that have fae, humans, vampires, and shadow monsters. This is a slow burn with no spice.

Such a good read!!! It’s hard to believe this kind of writing is coming from a debut author. I loved that it was fast paced while still having a lot of world building but not leaving out details. From the very first chapter, I was hooked and didn’t want to put it down! It ended on a cliffhanger that had my jaw dropped and now I’m desperate for the second book 😅

Really enjoyed this! Following the FMC Nisrine's Journey for the truth of her vanished mother and so many untold secrets is powerful. Adventure pretty much right out of the gate! (pun intented) It has such a Vast world of magical creatures and ancient magic that its going to be a wild ride and epic story with darkness, war and some romance to come! Looking forward to the next book so much was discovered and there is definitely going to be some heartache and drama with the foreshadowing of a love triangle if they all survive the battles they face.

This was a fast, action packed read with a strong FMC I actually enjoyed following. Nisrine starts out impulsive but grows into a capable and determined leader which made her easy to root for. The world building was interesting and I like the mix of fae and human elements though some parts felt rushed or a little confusing.
It definitely could have used a bit more development but.l the story itself was engaging and ended in a note that makes me curious for the next book.

I read this as an arc copy given to me by fable and fern lit and Julie Nelson.
While I do like to read any and all books, this wouldn't normally be the first genre I'd reach for. However - - This book. This book was phenomenal. The first day I started reading it, I read 15 chapters. I couldn't put it down. The plot, the characters, the world it all lives in.... I couldn't get enough. I am so happy I was given the opportunity to read this. I highly highly recommend whether it's your go to genre or not it is definitely a go to book. I can't wait for book 2. And I kinda wanna read more fantasy now, too ❤️

This book pulled me in right from the first page. The writing is gorgeous and atmospheric, full of that dark, dreamy fae magic I love. Princess Nisrine’s journey, from a hunted royal to someone fighting for truth and freedom, felt emotional and powerful. The side characters, especially Elaila and Corvan, added so much depth and mystery. The story delivered an amazing mix of rebellion, romance, and sacrifice. The ending left me wanting more (in the best way).

This book had me wanting more from page 1! Itching to get the answer to where the Queen was and what happened to her. The story build is incredible and I am truly a fan! Nisrine’s dad gave me a weird feeling from the start and I was right!
I don’t want to spoil anything but THAT ENDING!!!!!!!!!! This was one of those books that I didn’t look at the page number (I was reading through ebook) and when I read the last page…. I didn’t realize that it was the end. I hit the acknowledgments and immediately wanted the second book. Ugh! I can’t wait for book 2!

Thank you to @fableandfernlitco for this ARC of this book! It was fast paced and full of twists and unpredictable situations. I liked the direction that this story is going and I can’t wait to read the second book when it comes out. Also that love triangle has me second guessing who I hope Nisrine ends up with at the end of the series. 😍

First off, the way I had to pick my jaw up off the floor after that ending?! 😭 No doubt about it, that alone has me NEEDING book two as soon as possible!
This book is short, but let me tell you, it balances everything out perfectly. From the very beginning, it’s one thing after another, and I mean that in the absolute best way. There are no filler chapters and not one second where I felt like the story was dragging. I was completely hooked! I read this book in one sitting because how could I possibly put it down?!
The FMC is brilliant. I love that Nisrine’s journey genuinely feels like it’s training her and shaping her into the leader she’s meant to become. She goes from being completely clueless to an absolute badass in such a short amount of time, and I loved watching that transformation.
I LOVE Seren, but please tell me Corvan ends up being more than just a “berry buddy” 😫😫 he’s my pick for Nisrine.
Julie did a fantastic job making you hate the King, who is the main villain, in such a short amount of time. He is absolutely awful, and somehow I already have a deep personal grudge against a fictional man.
Overall, I loved this book. It was fast-paced, addictive, and packed with enough twists and unanswered questions to leave me desperate for more.
Needless to say, I will be impatiently waiting for book two because I NEED ANSWERS!! 🖤

This fast paced fantasy was fun and unlike anything I’ve read so far. I love an FMC who comes to find her strength and purpose and that’s exactly what Nisrine does. While the story is plot driven, the friends to lovers/love triangle snippets were nice and I honestly don’t know which character I want the FMC to end up with (or if the current decision is the final one). And while I had my suspicions throughout the book, the cliffhanger at the end was still a nice surprise. I look forward to finding out what happens in the next book!!

If you’re looking for a fast paced fantasy forward read, boy is the one for you! Nisrine is an fmc all about action and making things happen! She sticks to her gut feelings and taking things into her own hands. And once you pick it up it’s hard to put back down, it might be a shorter read but it’s action packed and full of adventure all the way through. And the magic system is so unique and well explained it just drags you in. The cliffhanger were left sitting on!!!! I can’t wait for more!

What a ending..... Need the next book now! I liked this story, like a real fairy tale with magic, fairies, and other magical beings. I hope Corvan gets a happy ever after. Enjoyed the fantasy world building and the slow burn romance was burning slow. Nice cozy fantasy book.

This is fast paced fantasy. The beginning had me curious, the world building and plot introduction just enough to intrigue me! It's a quick read... with a beautiful cover!
I felt it a bit too fast paced. As the story builds, it leaves many gaps in development. It left me wanting more. More depth. But I see the potential, I just felt left behind in some critical developments.
As an aside, there is a tinder of romance. An almost forced bond with her guard that left me wondering if he hadn't made the choices he did to reach her, would there be any romance between them? Then we meet another male, a half fae half human. Who, in my opinion, displays jealousy and anger because he has feelings for her when he sees her and the guard together?? I wasn't feeling it. There was no tension. No moments. No stolen touches or loss of breath between them before that.
The plot took a direction I wasn't expecting it too. A war breaks out, for reasons I still have yet to understand, and we get all these allies and enemies without the necessary development. Again, I believe this story had potential, it was just lacking in depth for me.
As a quick, fun read, yes... go for it! Enjoy the different approach to magic and Fae and Vampires (did I forget to mention vampires?) and otherworldly ancient evil things. Stand behind Nesrine while she fights for what is right against her hateful tyrannical father (still don't know why he hates her). And I hope you decide which of the Fae males you want her to end up with!!

There was no tension. No moments. No stolen touches or loss of breath between them before that.
The plot took a direction I wasn't expecting it too. A war breaks out, for reasons I still have yet to understand, and we get all these allies and enemies without the necessary development. Again, I believe this story had potential, it was just lacking in depth for me.
As a quick, fun read, yes... go for it! Enjoy the different approach to magic and Fae and Vampires (did I forget to mention vampires?) and otherworldly ancient evil things. Stand behind Nesrine while she fights for what is right against her hateful tyrannical father (still don't know why he hates her). And I hope you decide which of the Fae males you want her to end up with!!

The characters are very easy to fall in love with. There were parts of the story I felt were a little rushed. Hopefully the second book will help tie everything together. I love Nisrine. She starts challenged herself and turned into such a badass. Overall, I enjoyed this book and do look forward to ready On Fallen Crowns.

This is such a great fantasy book. I loved all the characters and the story line was so good i couldn’t put it down as soon as I started reading it
