From a secret tomb beneath the ashes of a Mexican volcano, something has broken free. Something luminous.Something beautiful-- and deadly. From the deepest part of our human legends, she is known simply as The Bride, and she’s visiting Florida for dinner, but her arrival has not gone unseen. The Fearless will make certain her reception is memorable. In a place where creatures like The Bride hunt each night, The Fearless will go to any lengths defending humanity, but only after dark. That’s when the hunting is best. In this battle, new warriors emerge against this timeless evil as Ring, Wally and Risa rejoin their stalwart friends to turn demons into dust --and justice into reality. They’re joined by Aurelia, the Romanian stripper with a violent history who fights better than she dances. Aurelia brings a legendary weapon to bear against The Bride-- but first, she’ll have to guide Ring through a maze of warlocks, a clever deity, and the ongoing reclamation of the succubus Delphine’s soul. Along the way, The Fearless will feed the dog, collect the rent, and act like every day in the sun might be their last.
Left-handed. Herder of cats and dogs. Lover of pie. I write books. I've had an unhealthy fascination with dragons since the age of-- well, for a while. Native Floridian. Current Tennessean. Location subject to change based on weather, upheaval, or availability of coffee. Forty-nine books and counting, with no end in sight. You've been warned.
I received this book as an arc from the author Terry Maggert. I started this book a little apprehensively as I hadn't realised that this was the 4th book in the "The Fearless Series" Stupid I know, but I felt that since the author had sent the book I owed it to him to read it. With this in mind, I was a little worried that I would be out of my depth as I hadn't read the other books and so would not have the benefit of the background of the characters. In actual fact I loved the book and I never felt at a loss with the characters or storyline because I hadn't read the other books. I loved Ring (he felt like a Buffy Character) only by fact that he was human and had to fight immortals that normal people were unaware of. He had his friends/lovers/helpers in two lovely ladies Wally and Risa who can keep him on the straight and narrow but who also help him in his fight against the immortals. We do meet characters in the book that have been mentioned before in his other books but Terry has it down to a fine art in introducing that character without having to completely rehash their lives (which happens in some books !).I love the way the 3 central characters cope with their past and present and stick together no matter what is thrown at them and how they keep each other from being influenced by the evil they encounter. Will they stay true or will they start to change as each immortal they kill affects them. I look forward to reading the next book and I have actually bought the first 3 books as I'm intrigued by the characters and want to know how they got together in the first place and how they met their friends, some of whom are immortal and how they got to where they were in this book. I also look forward to the next book in the series, as Terry has certainly spiked my interest in his epilogue. Can't wait to see what is in store for Ring and company.
I've been dying to read this since reading the first three books, and I was thrilled to get an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. Admittedly, I'd have bought it on release day regardless, though...and read it just as rapidly.
The Fearless are becoming even more so as their humanity continues to slip away. The subtlety of Mr Maggert's storytelling is such that it creeps up on you, much like one of the deadly immortal hunters, as you follow Ring, Wally, Risa and their companions' story in pursuit of the dangerous Bride. Ring himself doesn't even appear to be aware of the change. His thoughts are less about the joys of life (food, fishing, his family and the ladies he shares his affections with, in no particular order) and more about the hunt. He's becoming as cold as his dangerous prey.
From the initial fight, this book flows seamlessly through action sequences in both the past and the present, crossing the globe as easily as The Bride snuffs out her victims. I have to applaud the complex interweaving of history and present-day events as Mr Maggert once again spins a masterful story.
Of course, mention a legendary weapon and Ring, being Ring, could never leave well enough alone, so I admit I expected that particular sequence to occur, though I had no idea when or how (and I won't spoil it for you, either). It's like telling Ring not to look at a beautiful woman, or breathe in the aroma of a superb meal.
Did I mention that this book was brilliant? It most certainly is.
I received an ARC of this book for review. I had no idea what to expect when starting this book, having never heard of The Fearless (sorry, Terry). As I started reading, I was trying to figure out in my head just who they were and what exactly was going on, which really wasn't all that difficult the further I read. I was soon sucked into the fascinating world of Ring, Wally and Risa, so much so that I could not put the book down and, believe me, I tried. The deft intertwining of history and the present was seamlessly done. The evil that threatened kept me guessing right up until the end. Trying to figure out just exactly what was going on with The Bride was an intricate puzzle. Between fighting warlocks, trying to save a church, dealing with unscrupulous art dealers and, eventually, saving everyone from the ultimate evil, The Fearless have their work cut out for them. Their supporting cast of characters thoroughly charmed me, especially Aurelia. I found myself having several fangirl moments with her. The pulling together of all the storylines was done very skillfully. The ending? Well, I loved it. It was totally unexpected and definitely has me looking forward to The Fearless, Book 5. Good thing I now have to go back and read books one, two and three to fill in the wait. This book is definitely worth 5 stars. I would give it more if I could. It is an extremely well-written, highly enjoyable read.
I received an advanced complimentary copy of this book for an honest review. This is the first book I have read from this author, and I'm extremely glad I discovered Terry Maggert. A Bride of Salt and Stars is the fourth installment in this series. I highly recommend reading the first three installments first. I was hooked from the first chapter and enthralled throughout the entire book. I loved the chemistry between the main characters ( Ring, Risa, and Wally). Ring is a human male who lives with his two lovers/friends/roommates/ helpers (Risa and Wally). They hunt down and kill immortals. Each character has their own strengths. Risa and Wally help keep Ring sane throughout this journey they are undertaking. Along the way you will meet many more interesting characters that will continue to intrigue you. This book is filled with friendship, action, suspense, and so much more. This is definitely a series I'm glad I was introduced too. Terry Maggert has done an amazing job with this book. This is a must read, and I can not wait to see what happens next for this group.
I was given a copy of this book in advance by the author; however I have read the previous books in the series and honored to have the chance to read this one just a little early! It did not disappoint!
The newest release in Ring exciting story will keep you wanting more! A Bride of Salt and Tears has proven to be the best in the series yet! Not only do you get more of the Characters you have grown to love but also more of the immortal kind that Ring, Wally and Risa all seem to accumulate as their strange but unique fitting family. Book four has proven to be the story of their most important job yet. You see Ring, Wally and Risa, are a trio that have tasked themselves with protecting the world of those immortal’s that take human life unnecessarily, and often very brutally. Of course choosing this line of work puts them all at great risk-Ring more often than the other two. This time the mission is to stop “The Bride”. But how does one stop an immortal made from stone. This mission requires them to trust those they have brought into their family; even more important they are literally putting their lives in the hands of all that come together to help them.
As always the author writes with amazing detail and creates all his characters to be so realistic! It makes for a fantastic read and truly keeps you turning the page to see how it all plays out.
It was a bit confusing when I began to read this book. Once I got into it I could not put it down. It is beyond a page turner. This is not a must read it's a have to read. Terry Maggert does a fantastic job in telling this story of the collision of the past, present and future. I found this to be a great way to tell the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. The small battles to get to the climax were great. The final one is unbelievable. This book is worth so much more than 5 stars. If you want to read a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat and keep you turning the pages until you finish reading. then this is the book for you. I highly recommend this book for everyone. You will not regret it.
Greedy men are stupid. They cannot leave well enough alone. It doesn’t take a degree in science to figure out that if there is a Guardian whose job is making sure an old statue is not uncovered or taken, that should be the first clue to stay the hell away from it. ‘Nough said.
This adventure incorporates all of the past players in complicated set of coincidences. Yeah, I don’t believe in coincidences either. Anyway, I would suggest reading the series in order because there is considerable backstory to each character. I have to give fair warning: There are A LOT of characters to keep track of. Sometimes the good vs evil is blurred, but in the end it’s this team that stands between us humans and the undying making cattle of us all.
This story is told from more than one point of view, however they are clearly divided so I didn’t get lost…..I enjoy the character’s historical back stories. The story is well written, but at times is more intellectual than I am. What I mean to say is that if you are thinking this is a bust in, kill some creatures, run around to find the romance and then call it a day, it’s really not. This is not a typical romance/urban fantasy/paranormal adventure thriller. The characters discuss, plan and research their opponent instead charging in with guns a blazing.
Another bonus is the fact that the narrator to the audio books is beyond compare. She is a genius with these characters. Rebecca Cook has the skill it takes to bring characters to life in voice format.
Each book in this series just keeps getting better and better! But if you have not read any of the others, don't worry about it. You will not start at an effective disadvantage, and will most likely feel an instant addiction and hunt out the others anyway. The basic characters and those added along in preceding books are joined by several new ones as a new and truly horrifying demon appears and must be terminated along with her minions. The characters are well developed and the visualization of activities and settings are extremely clear and well written. The author's apparent encyclopedic knowledge of arcane lore of multiple civilizations is astounding for it's scope and the ability to immerse the reader into painless knowledge. Rebecca Cook is an astonishingly excellent audio performer in every sense of the term.
I just love all the Mythology and Theology that Maggert includes in his books. Each book is just more interesting than the next and I can't wait to find out what happens to our heroes next. The new characters and the complex mysteries keeps you on the edge of your seat. All the hot men and strong women will have you fantasizing! I enjoy the introductions of new characters and learning more about the characters we have already met. I think the trio is about to change more than I can even imagine. I can't wait to find out what happens next! If you want a great paranormal read that has everything this is the series for you.
I could have sworn I wrote a review for this when I finished it. Guess not. If you've gotten this far in the series, you don't need me to tell you about the quick-paced plot, awesome characters, or evil villains. Mr. Maggert keeps things exciting in this new installment of the series. All your favorites return in A Bride of Salt and Stars and the action is non-stop. Keep writing them, Mr. Maggert, and I'll keep reading them. Thanks for the fantastic reads!!
