I found this book very entertaining. It's both weirdly educational and funny. Takes animal facts (mostly when it comes to courtship, sex, and relationship dynamics) and pairs it up with a bl trope. I like the side notes explaining how the characters are portraying the animal's behavior throughout the story. If you like animal facts and bl it's a 10/10. It is mature rated and quite graphic so be prepared. The "animals" are still human though (mostly). Recommend it for some funny entertainment and fun facts, don't take it too seriously
Incredibly clever, funny, and educational! There were a lot of animal facts in this book that I knew, but also many that I didn't. I love the ways the author portrayed all sorts of different animal dynamics like different BL tropes. Such a unique idea that I believe was executed well. It's like Heaven's Design Team but for BL fans! I just wish there was a chapter on bats...
Okay, not totally nonfiction, but it uses a lot of real facts and then just reimagines the animals as hot guys in BL manga. It's a hoot, a blast, a whatever old-fashioned word you want to call it meaning "lots of fun."
Some do work better than others - granted And Tango Makes Three primed many of us to love queer penguins, but that chapter is still adorable in a way that the sea lions and the snails are not. But if you grew up with Tango and moved on to Queer Ducks (and Other Animals): The Natural World of Animal Sexuality or if you just really like BL and animals, this is worth it.
Besides, how else would I have learned that giraffes are ridiculously bad at all things sexual?
It was surprisingly educational and the little love stories between the different species were really cute and worked really well with that species usual mating behaviors. It was a fun and cute read 🥰
If all animal fact books were like this, I would read more of them…. It was easy to understand and interesting, too. Personally, I think that the fish one had the most fascinating scientific information followed by the snail one. Snails are gross though, so I didn’t really mesh with that one.
