Potholders are perfect canvases for showcasing fabulous fabric, using simple embellishments, and trying out novel ideas—as these charming, nostalgic projects prove! They’re easy, beautiful, and great for anyone looking to stitch something small but wonderful. All that’s needed are basic hand or machine sewing skills to complete a darling butterfly-shaped potholder with rickrack antennae. A playful oven mitt, in bright red with embroidered flames, sports the word “caliente!” to remind the wearer to be careful. An introduction presents the vast range of textiles and embellishments available, and beginners will get the lowdown on batting options and guidelines for what makes a successful, functional potholder. All projects are showcased with full-color, close-up photography, and with any necessary templates and patterns.
I read this after reading 100 Pretty Little Projects and it's just what I thought it would be, lots of twee but useful handcrafted projects. Some projects are less functional than others... I don't think I'd really use a beaded silk potholder, but maybe it's for someone! Good photos, and simple to digest step-by-step directions. Sometimes the projects' names and intro chatter are a bit overwrought. There's much to inspire here.
What a fun little book! There are tons of little projects in this book, and there's a little something for everyone. Of course, you're not limited to making potholders--you can use the projects as a single block in a larger quilt, or make little mug rugs or placemats, too. I was particularly taken my the little butterfly near the end. I think I found my next mug rug swap item! Overall, a cute, fun read.
If you get a Christmas present from me . . . it might have something to do with this book. Nice little series of books (Pretty Little Pincusions) if you're looking for something to do in your spare time.
Still making some! There are a few instructions that are not totally clear, but the potholders are pretty easy for the most part and there's lots of ideas for creativity! I am on my 9th potholder and still going strong. So far, I have 11 potholders made and still going strong!
I liked the idea of printing out photos on fabric and using that to create potholders. And the terry cloth towel potholder was cute. And the idea of using rick rack at the edging to create a tiny scalloped edge, very cute.
just a random library pick-there were 2 copies and the cover was cute! I have realized through some changes in my life that only rich people have space in their homes for things like decorative pot holders.
This book was pretty to look at and had some good ideas. Fairly simple and straightforward. I'm not really into making potholders, but,I can see that there may be a cult following for them.
