Alpha Mine

Rate this book
Lesson learned: don’t go kissing strange wolves.
Especially when you’re already betrothed to another.
I thought he was a sign from the Goddess, a blessing in the dark.

But of course, he wasn’t.

I never asked for this. I never asked to be forced into an arranged marriage meant to secure an alliance between two powerful packs. I tell myself I can endure it. After all, I’ve always been good at keeping my head down and playing the dutiful Omega son, sacrificing myself for the pack.

It’s always for the “good” of the pack.

But one reckless, stolen moment under the Bloody Moon changed everything. Now I find myself trapped between two brothers—one who sees me as nothing but a plaything, and the other who rejects me again and again, yet he’s the one I can’t stop wanting. No matter how hard I fight it, my stupid, stupid wolf refuses to let him go.

Bound by vows and a treaty too costly to break, I’m drawn deeper into this web of duty and expectations… and closer to a ruthless, brooding Alpha who could be my salvation—

Or my ruin.

Alpha Mine is a full-length, dual POV MM Shifter romance (omegaverse) with all the drama and knotty spice. Use the read sample feature to check content warnings before diving in.

Monte and Felix 🖤

This dragged for me quite a bit. There were several time jumps, sometimes weeks to months at a time, and I still felt like nothing was happening. The pacing just felt off.

The last 30% felt rushed and disconnected after the first 70% felt long and dragged out.

And then, I didn’t feel any romantic or emotional connection between Monte and Felix. I love yous after speaking barely 10 words to each other?? I just didn’t feel their connection, and I didn’t understand what suddenly caused the flip in feelings.

Then some of the verbiage used in the inner monologues just didn’t feel like it fit the characters and setting. It would sometimes feel out of place, and a bit over the top which got a bit tiring to read when I already felt like the pace was dragging.

Both were trying to do right by their packs, and I appreciated their dedication and loyalty to their families and packs. But overall, this was a miss for me.

Ooh so much tension and slow burn in this book.
And while I really wanted to smack the MCs a few times, I enjoyed the book a lot!

Monte and Felix meet by accident just before Monte’s marriage with Felix’s brother gets announced.
And while the sizzling starts right then and there, also a lot of miscommunication takes place. Like all over the book. A lot could’ve resolved with them just sitting down and talk.
It is rather hot and cold a lot throughout the book, but for some reason it really worked for me to get a lot of feelings on the pages.

I don’t want to say much about the plot. A lot revolves around politics. But the rest would be spoilery pretty fast.

I’m always a bit wairily with ABO books, but I’m dipping my toes in lately. And I have to say this is pretty light when it comes to that.
It is also very light with the werewolf stuff. That was a bit disappointing. At one point I even wondered if they even shift at all.

I would say the book is also rather angsty. I’m used to reading “worse” books, but don’t expect light and fluffy with it, even though it has very sweet and tender moments.

I love the writing style of the author and I’m already looking forward to reading the author’s other book and hopefully future books!

This is an arranged marriage shifter supernatural romance, featuring Monte and Felix, and is a standalone book.

This story is full of tension, forbidden attraction, and pack politics. I loved the emotional push-and-pull between duty and desire, and the complicated arrangement with the two brothers kept me reading. Loved the HEA.

Things to expect in this book are:
Standalone
MM supernatural romance
Wolf shifters
Enemies to more
Mild love triangle
Arranged marriage
Duty vs. Desire
Dark/Alpha Male
Forced proximity
Only one bed
Forbidden romance
Fated mates
Spicy times
Marking & knotting
Bit of drama
HEA

Got an ARC of this. Didn’t want to put this one down. Loved that the omega didn’t usually just take a back seat to everything going on. Love a grumpy but soft alpha. Enjoyed this a lot.

3.5 ⭐, very cute

I went into this without much to go on. Gerald is a new author for me and I always take A/O books with a grain of salt because they can range so widely in entertainment value.

This was a good take on the A/O genre. It kept me entertained and wanting more as the story progressed. I genuinely liked our MC and the little moments we got from his love interest's POV made the yearning all the better. The plot was entertaining and I had a genuinely good time reading this.

The spice is relatively low (IMO), although I like a lot of spice in my A/O books, so it may be just the thing for someone with humbler tastes. And I will say, when the spice hit, it HIT.

Looking for a quick palate cleanser that will keep you entertained? This might be just the thing for you.

Thanks so much Raine Gerald and Gay Romance Reviews for the book. I was given this book as an advance review copy (ARC) for free, and I am leaving this review completely voluntarily.

Raine Gerald is a new-to-me author, and this one sounded right up my alley: an arranged-marriage shifter supernatural romance starring Monte and Felix. It’s a standalone story told with dual POVs. It follows the two as they try to navigate pack politics, duty, and that inconvenient spark between them.

What I liked: the setup has instant tension (betrothed to one path, tempted by another.) I enjoyed being in both Monte’s and Felix’s heads. The chemistry is there but it felt muted. I kept waiting for that “mate-bond thunderclap” or a big emotional crescendo that never fully arrives.

Where it lost me: There are several time jumps and I still felt like nothing was actually happening. The story would skip ahead and you expect big emotional movement or plot fallout, but instead it slides back into the same tension with slightly different scenery. Also, for a werewolf/shifter book, it’s surprisingly light on the werewolf stuff. Pack dynamics are mostly in the background, and I honestly wondered if anyone shifts at all.

Spice level is relatively low in this book. If you prefer romance that simmers quietly rather than sizzles, you might vibe with it more than I did.

Happy reading friends,

Raine Gerald is a new author to me and while this wasn't a home run, I wouldn't hate it to read more from them. The story was nicely paced. And the two MCs were likeable and honorable characters. That said, I am by no means a fan of the arranged marriage trope. There is always too much sacrificing oneself for the 'greater good' of the pack. It's just a little too easy to slide into 'woe is me' martyrdom.
Omega Monte is the saving grace of the story. Yes, he was something like a doormat. Had he... ever... voiced his objections to his father? He's still a nervous nelly at the new pack, but he soon develops a backbone and a voice of his own. All though getting all gooey eyed when he's in the presence of his temporary mate, is definitely two steps back.
Alpha Felix is tall, sinfully handsome and broody. He's also an idiot. Why can't a strong. diplomatic alpha come up with a plan that doesn't require the end of hope? Hunter, the intended alpha spouse, is a bit of a loud mouthed bore(and that was before the alcohol)
Most of the plot twists were predictable. From the puppet master villainy to the dangerously stormy night, small cottage, one bed... and oops... an omega in heat.
Still, the story is sweet. The heat steam is acceptable. Nice try. Want to see more before I judge (any more than I have here).
I received an advanced copy from GRR and this is my review.

This was an enjoyably easy read and was exactly what I needed when I picked it up.

Monte’s so incredibly likeable: he’s intelligent, perceptive and unassuming, but also endearingly awkward at times as he tries to navigate his strange situation with Felix. I really enjoyed his accurate insights as he dissects the alpha’s behaviour and begins to understand him more, despite not having much to go on.

I did really feel for the omega, having to deal with Felix’s apparent indifference to him, and his insecurities made me want to wrap him in a massive hug. I was so pleased that he found a friend in Ara.

Felix is clearly a good man, but his stubborn insistence to push Monte away, while showing loyalty to his brother, is frustrating and I did want to shout some sense at him at times, especially after he presumes things that turn out to be incorrect. Having said this, I did really appreciate his tender moments, which showed that the big gruff alpha was really a gentle giant, unless you threaten a certain omega!

If you’re looking for a short palette cleanser MM shifter romance, this is a safe bet.

ALPHA MINE is the story of Monte, an Omega promised to a rival pack for many years, where it is finally happening. He's not happy with it, but doesn't see a way out of it. Everything changes on the Night of the Blood Moon, when Monte asks the Goddess for help and has a kiss with an unnamed Alpha, who sweeps him off his feet. Only trouble is, it turns out that Alpha is the brother of the one Monte is to be married to.

This was a really good slow-burn read, with Monte finding his place and Felix being all honourable. Hunter is a bit of a d!ck in this, but I'm hoping he will get a story and an HEA of his own in the future. The two scenes where Felix and Monte are together are steamy, but they don't take over the whole story.

A story that I thoroughly enjoyed and have no hesitation in recommending for other paranormal romance lovers.

Alpha Mine is the story of an Omega son to the Alpha of the Pack. He is the sacrifice in an arranged marriage to forge an alliance but he is a romantic at heart and very against the marriage. The groom to be is a drunken wastrel who shows prior to the wedding but is a no show on the big day. In steps the brother to the groom and Alpha of the other Pack. Feeling it is his duty to fulfill the contract and be the placeholder until his brother returns.

Too bad the “bride” (author’s word) and stand-in groom already shared a passionate kiss prior to knowing who the other is. Monte, the bride, and his wolf know they want Felix but Felix is honor bound to give Monte up when his brother returns.

Throughout the marriage we see Felix try hard to resist Monte and ultimately fail. We see Monte show just how passionately he cares for others and he joins the new Pack. And we see Felix and Monte fall in love and change the rules of the contract.

Raine Gerald is new to me but I absolutely loved this story. I am looking forward to more stories from them.

Alpha Mine is dual POV but more from Monte’s POV than Felix.

Even though I’m not a fan of arranged marriages, I wanted to give this book a try. Raine Gerald is a new to me author and the blurb sounded pretty interesting.

Monte was arranged to marry in order to save his pack. As an omega, he had no choice in the matter and had to do what he was told.

Felix was the alpha in charge of carrying out the treaty for both packs to unite. His sense of duty and loyalty to his pack comes first to even his own feelings.

When Monte has the life kissed out of him by a stranger in the middle of the woods, he knows he will never want anyone else but him for the rest of his life.

But when Monte meets the stranger from the woods and realizes his identity, things get a bit complicated. Not only does he have to marry someone he doesn’t love, he has to be near the man he wants.

The slow burn, pining and sense of duty complicate Felix’s life because he’s torn between the love of his mate and his duties as an alpha. He fumbles on both ends but fortunately chooses what’s right.

Felix and Monte have to figure out whether they can choose their love or let outside forces dictate their life.

This piqued my interest from the very first page. I couldn't help but root for Felix and Monte's HEA. It was refreshing to read an omegaverse where the alpha wasn’t toxic or disrespectful to the omega. Even with his initial coldness, it was easy to tell Felix was smitten with Monte, and his denial and attempts to keep his distance were just chef’s kiss perfection. I loved the tension, and the way their bond deepened in the end.

fav line:

plot 4/5
heat level 3/5
slow-ish burn
first person/dual pov

Thank you to the author for this ARC.

Its been a while since I read an omegaverse shifter book and since im not a huge fan of instalove stories I wasnt sure what to expect when going in but, this was a surprisingly fun read!

I devoured this book in one sitting. The tension in the first half was delicious and super steamy. I loved the back and forth and when they finally did the deed, it was so so worth the wait. HOWEVER Felix needed to be cussed out by Monte more. His reasoning for everything he did was stupid, selfish and resulted in them both getting hurt. I did not like how he blamed Monte for a lot of things and when they met at the engagement ceremony, and Felix blamed Monte for the kiss? THE AUDACITY!

Monte was an angel. The other characters aren’t really the focal point so cant say much about them but there were a few shocking reveals that had me jump out of my seat.

In the end I enjoyed this a lot but Felix was really pushing it.. he really was… 4 stars

Arranged marriage? ✔️ Wolves? ✔️ Forbidden spice? ✔️
Did I eat this up anyway? Also yes.

Alpha Mine is a quick, shifter romance packed with pack politics, tension, and plenty of “no we can’t… unless?” energy. Monte and Felix were a fun pairing — awkward, smart omega + stubborn, broody alpha? Classic, and I’m here for it.

Monte honestly carried this story for me. Sweet, perceptive, trying his best, and slowly finding his voice? Loved watching his growth. Felix, on the other hand… sir. Kindly get it together. Big, gruff, loyal? Yes. Emotionally blind for 80% of the book? ALSO yes.

The plot hits all the shifter tropes:

- Arranged marriage
- Fated mates
- Only one bed 👀
- Knotting & marking
- Touch of love triangle
- Duty vs desire drama
- Grumpy alpha x soft omega

It’s fun, steamy, a little messy, and makes for a perfect palette-cleanser read.
If you want wolves, yearning, and a broody alpha who finally caves? This one’s worth the bite.

The story is beautiful, well-rounded, complete, and clarifies a number of things wonderfully as it progresses. Some scenes are amusing, while others are very emotional. In short, it's a lovely story about shifters that doesn't delve too deeply into the wolf structure and is nice to read on the side.
However, as I progressed through the book, one thing bothered me more and more, and that is the dynamic between the two or even three characters, especially on a physical level. The omega could easily have been replaced with a female character, and sometimes the reaction doesn't really fit with a male protagonist.

I often enjoy reading shifter or ABO stories, but this has nothing to do with it being an omega; for me, the physical gender attributes are mixed up.
Those who can overlook this will get their money's worth, while those who are bothered by such things will be bothered.

Alpha Mine is a twist in arranged marriages.

Monte is an omega and in order for peace to hold between two packs, he is engaged to the opposing pack's Alpha's brother. However Felix' brother is just a tad bit... unstable, immature and impulsive. Due to these characteristics, Felix, the Alpha, stands in his brother's place and marries the omega. We all think it is going to be your usual cold arranged marriage saga going on and to a certain extent it is... until Felix gives into temptation.

This was such a lovely book. I got so annoyed with Felix and his resistance that when he finally let all restraints go I was overjoyed and NEEDED MORE. Not just the what? 20%? that we got of Monte and Felix being all lovey-dovey.

The only thing I was a bit not so happy about was how quickly the book went in the last quarter. It felt a bit rushed. But other than that, I was very pleased.

This was such a lovely MM shifter omegaverse. I liked that the omega wasn't some helpless character. Monte fought for what he wanted and when he couldn't change fate, he made the best of the situation. I love the setting of the story, the pack politics and the hard fought HEA, which was delivered beautifully. Felix and Monte were fated mates, no doubts, and Felix's struggle before he came to terms with his feelings for his brother's mate was just so delicious for me. I'll describe his character as tsundere, cold on the outside but with a soft, caring side.
Aside from the romance, this was also action packed and full of a series of events that kept me turning those pages. It's like you don't know what to expect, all of which made this a beautiful read for me.

A Joyfully Jay review.

2.75 stars

This book is one of those that felt fine while I was reading it, but flawed when I finished. The writing is smooth and light. However, the pace is fast, rushing from the beginning of the book to end at breakneck speed, and the plot feels paper thin. And when you’re in the mood for it, a book like this can be fine. But for me, as soon as I put the book down, my brain had so many things to say. There may be spoilers in this review, so proceed with caution if you think this is a book you want to read.

honored to get an arc of this and have the opportunity to review it before it comes out!

i loved felix from the start. he’s just a broody grumpy alpha. it was refreshing to see how monte was so willing to adapt to his circumstances and being thrown into so many unknowns. i do wish there was a little more world building but overall it’s a fun story. if you love growling, you’ll love it. 🐺

tropes:
🩵 brother’s mate
💙 arranged marriage
🩵 omegaverse
💙 forced proximity

favorite quotes:
“I want you,” he snarled against my throat. “I want all of you. Forever. I want my mark on you.”

Review for Alpha Mine by Raine Gerald

Another story from Raine Gerald that hit it out of the ballpark for me. I have found an author that I will want to read all they write. The story covers the need for an alliance between two powerful packs, even if the ones that are picked want nothing to do with it. This style of writing wanted me to reach my hand into the book and knock some heads. You don't get together just to bring two powerful packs together. You will get a better connection if you allow two that care about each other. I have now read a couple of books by this author, and when the stories end, I always want more; that to me is a good sign. I want more.

I loved the world building in this book, especially all the details about the alliances and the arranged marriage. In terms of the characters, we get a beautiful depiction in Monte of what can happen to someone who has been trained from birth to accept their place in life, do what everyone expects and not question. When faced with a life-altering dilemma, there is so much confusion about something as basic as the right to make a choice. Personality-wise, his choice is clear but the fact that that choice is not how things are supposed to play out made for interesting conflict and I was invested in seeing how the story would end.

I received an advanced reader copy.

This was a semi slow burn fated mates kind of vibe to me. I like how Monte was not a meek little Omega. He had a back bone and didn't let anyone push him around. I loved watching him make the best of his situation and go above and beyond. He didn't feel sorry for himself or lock himself up. Poor Felix fighting himself and his duty to the pack but I am glad they got there in the end. This was a beautiful read. I did like the inclusion of both genders.

I liked the concept but the execution wasn’t particularly to my liking - Monte & Felix’s chemistry was there but it felt muted and the plot pacing was a little off, like why were we having another big angst at the 95% mark. I prefer the 95% mark to be wrapping up neatly or even just a HFN if there’s a sequel. Overall I would read this again but it wasn’t my favourite Omegaverse read this year. Bonus points for the slower burn with Monte & Felix and Felix being a stand in husband whilst trying to fight his feelings for Monte.

Alpha Mine by Raine Gerald was a pretty enjoyable story. I was caught up from the first moment when Monte was introduced. I loved him so much. Felix took awhile for me to warm up to. He was so cold and cruel at times. However, he did make up for it at the end. I don’t know if this is a standalone or if there will be more stories from this pack. I would love to read more about the pack that Monte and Felix are leading.

Omegaverse, fated mates, slow-burn

Monte is an omega who is forced into an arranged marriage in order to unite two packs.
He has no choice in the matter but is resilient and makes the most of the situation.
The night before his wedding he has an amazing kiss with a stranger.
That stranger is his now brother in law, Felix.
Felix is a grump with a tender heart who hides it well.
He fights his instincts towards Monte for the sake of peace but ultimately can't fight their bond.
There's also some fast-paced action and danger that kept me turning the pages.

I really liked the early scene deep in the forest when Monte, worried about his impending arranged marriage, seeks reassurance from the Goddess, only to exchange kisses with an Alpha who calls him mate (naturally the brother of his pledged spouse. You'd think this would set up a whole lot of tension and yearning, and it sort of does, but Monte is a little bit weak in the spine, and Felix beyond stubborn, so the magic of that early scene dissipates as the book moves both fast and slow towards its conclusion.

I liked the way the story started and how Felix was attempting to distance himself from Monte because he is a man of honor. But as the story continued, it started to feel rushed, especially at the end. I wish it were longer so the ending 30% could be dragged out. I also feel we missed things you typically see with an Alpha/Omega pairing. There are other things I would have liked to have explained a little more as well. However, it is a cute story

Monte has been betrothed to Hunter for most of his life. The night before they wed, he is kissed by an as yet unknown alpha. The same alpha who stands next to his supposed to be beta husband. His brother!

What a rollercoaster for my emotions. Story kept me sucked in. Lots of tension and misunderstandings. Everything ended neatly with a nice happy ending.

Felix never truly knew what he had found the night he met Monte under the full moon. But as we know life has to throw all kinds of twists into everything, and so begins a journey of fate.

The characters are done very well and the world building is wonderful. You better grab a blanket and find a cozy spot to be for a while because once you start reading this story, you won't be able to stop.
