When Katrina's friend Chris finally convinces her to leave her abusive relationship, he gets more than he bargained for. Once Katrina was free from the abuse, she looks for a man to offer stability and financial comfort to her and her daughter, which she immediately saw in Chris, who she pursued and soon married. It wasn't long before Katrina found an issue with his daughter's mother, in addition to the poor advice she received from her girlfriends caused her to make some very bad choices. Even her neighbors don’t like the way she's treating other people. It's not long before her selfishness, and disregard for the feelings of others ends her up in a terrible car accident that disfigures her. Ironically, this catastrophe may be just the incident that forces Katrina to take stock of her life and realize the effect her actions have on others. Including Chris, who has taken the blunt of her negativity and hateful accusations. She's gone too far and he's ready to go, but now that she's been hurt and NEEDS his love and care, will he still want to give it or get away?
My name is Dominique Wilkins. I am a mother of five children. In the past year, I have written and self-published numerous short stories with different themes that I hope that people will enjoy and relate to. I am very proud of the reviews they have received thus far. I pray that readers will want me to continue to do this for the rest of my life. I too, was a product of my environment, which I was influenced by, before I found God and began to love myself and children all over again. I write books, so that others will feel the same way and want to make changes. Please feel free to visit me www.AuthorDWilkinsGOODbooks.com or download the Author Dominique Wilkins app!
Love is a beautiful thing when SHARED by two people, but when you have one person who doesn't know how to love correctly it can turn into a bad situation very quickly.
Katrina is a young woman who has love to give. Katrina absolutely gives love to her daughter Nina and she used to love her daughter's father Johnny until she realized that love shouldn't hurt, at least not physically. When Katrina is hurt in a skating accident she realizes just how much Johnny loves her, or has lack of love for her. It is not until she is talking with her friend Chris that she realizes that she needs to get out to do better for herself and her daughter. The question is, will she be strong enough to make it with Johnny or will she go running back to what he has groomed her to be used to all of these years?
Lights, Camera, Mine is a short story but with most shorts they wrap up quickly and are incomplete. Wilkins has given us characters with a solid foundation and even gives us scripture to verify why they took the actions they took but she could have built so much more. As I am reading I know she has more of a story to tell. Wilkins wraps up the story so that we know how it ends but there is more to the meat of this story.
This is a short story about love and consequences. Mrs Wilkins uses several relationships to remind readers of Biblical principles related to loving others, forgiveness, sin, and repentance. In each illustration, there is a lesson regarding relationships and one regarding scripture. It was nice to read and come upon the lessons. I did find that the book was somewhat "choppy" in places, having storylines that might have been more fully explored. Why was Nina's father able to be such a kind & devoted father, but an abusive lover? What really happened at the hospital? What were Sean and Sonja's relevance to the story, other than Sonja's role at the end? ...etc
A sad story about the hurtful complexity of experiencing an abusive relationship. Again the story was very disjointed and didn't give you enough answers often opening topics mid point without explaining them or resolving them. Lights, Camera, Mine has a lot of potential to connect a reader very strongly to the story once the book goes through some additional draft writing.
