Instead, it gave Alexander Chandler extraordinary abilities—and turned him into the Navy's most valuable asset.
For more than eighty years, Alex and his team of "Notables" have fought in every shadow war, every covert mission too dangerous for regular operatives.
Now one of their own has gone rogue.
Burton Shott is systematically eliminating every Notable on the planet as revenge for decades of personal loss.
In order to preserve the past, safeguard the present, and preserve the future, Alex must stop Shott before he decimates the Notables.
The riveting first novel in the Notables series. Perfect for fans of Steve Berry and James Rollins who crave authentic historical detail and pulse-pounding conspiracy action with a speculative twist.
Quite a story! A historical thriller, beginning from 1929 to present day, with a dash of SciFi. Perfect in-depth story, with excellent characters and a versatile plot. I’m looking forward to reading book-2.
I received an ARC from Severn and my review is entirely voluntary.
The Flip of a Switch is a historical fictiob kindke book that I was fortunate enough to win in a goodreads giveaway a while back. Whike it is considered historical fiction there are some elements that could make sci-fi thriller. We are introduced to our main characters in the late 1920's who get exposed to a chemical that should have killed them. From there it seems like they are invincible as they go through the second world war unharmed. The plot actually goes up to moderb day. Although the plot may seem strange for some it is actually a very good book.
I received an ARC notification and was questioning whether I wanted to read this book. Not having another in my queue, i decided to try it. Five hours later I completed reading. It is a compelling historical fiction spanning WWII to the present - with a touch of science fiction (I hope that it is science fiction). Fast read, compelling plot and interesting characters make it a great first novel. Highly recommend
Man, that’s wild! Feels like a rollercoaster ride through time — kicking off in 1929, sliding all the way to the present, and boom, they hit you with some Sci-Fi flavor. It’s got that perfect mash-up vibe: history, suspense, a little futuristic twist, and characters that actually feel alive, not just placeholders. The plot’s got layers too — like one of those stories you can peel back and find new details every time. Honestly, it’s giving blockbuster energy, but still has that deep, page-turning flow. If book-1 is this dope, I can only imagine book-2’s gonna turn into a straight fire. Can’t wait to see where it goes next!
Historical fiction and add in super powers. Dual timeline and a handful of characters to keep watch on. Interesting to see the ties between the characters get fleshed out, and also to consider how people with these “talents” could be used in wartime. Will see where book 2 goes.
This is one of a multitude of books that I occasionally receive notice of from Thrillerfix.com, a website created by bestselling thriller authors that provides recommendations for thriller books, movies, and TV shows. The Flip of a Switch* by P.R. DuRhett is the first book in "The Notables" series, an action-packed science fiction thriller with a speculative twist and elements of military and historical fiction, and is published by Ten Hut Media.
The novel centers on the protagonist, Alexander Chandler, a man who, along with a team of "Notables" (individuals with extraordinary abilities gained from radiation exposure), has worked for U.S. Naval Intelligence on top-secret, dangerous missions for over eighty years. The core conflict begins when one of their own, Burton Shott, goes rogue and starts systematically eliminating the other Notables globally as an act of revenge for personal losses spanning decades.
Burton Shott is systematically eliminating every Notable on the planet as revenge for decades of personal loss. To preserve the past, safeguard the present, and preserve the future, Alex must stop Shott before he decimates the Notables. Alex must stop Shott to safeguard the future and preserve the remaining team members.
The reader is introduced to our main characters (Alex Chandler and the rest of The Notables) in the late 1920's who get exposed to an amount of radiation that should have killed them. From there, it seems like they are invincible as they go through the Second World War unharmed (despite being caught in the midst of German bombing raids during "The Blitz" - The Blitz was an intense German bombing campaign against the United Kingdom during World War II, lasting from September 1940 to May 1941). The main thrust of the story follows our protagonist from 1929 to the modern era
On my vaunted five-star rating scale, I would give this book a solid four stars, as this book is considered a highly engaging and worthwhile read for those who enjoy military thrillers with a science fiction element. Fans of Steve Berry and James Rollins would really enjoy this book.
As with all my literary rants, this is just my five cents' worth.
I received an ARC through "Severn River" and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story is well laid out and definitely keeps you involved right to the end. This is definitely well worth the read. Don't miss out!
I received an advanced copy of this book for my honest review. This is a unique story about special individuals with special talents. The story takes place before and during World War II mixed with a story during present day. The story weaves the two eras but, keeps the reader wanting more. This is the first book in a new series and I’m ready for the next book.
I had the privilege of being an advanced reader of this book and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Flip of a Switch was a compelling mix of historical fiction and modern espionage with a touch of sci fi thrown in. All of the main characters had depth and personality and the author did a great job making them human and relatable. The modern and historical story arcs were nicely tied together to make the historical context relevant to the modern day intrigue. There were a few threads that were left unanswered that make the reader want to read the next installment. For a first-time author, P.R. DuRhett successfully piqued my interest and I look forward to many more books that follow the Notables Team.
