Abandoning Sable was a mistake but killing her brother would have been much worse.

Fierce Betrayal is book five in the Cruel Empire series, a world built through three interconnected trilogies that can each be read as standalones. This installment belongs to Milo and Sable’s trilogy, though readers can begin the series with Ruthless Oath. And after finishing this book, one thing is certain—you will be desperate for Stolen Throne.
From the very first page, Fierce Betrayal drags you into a brutal, dangerous world where loyalty is fragile, love is tested at every turn, and survival comes at a devastating cost. This is dark mafia romance at its finest—violent, addictive, emotional, and impossible to put down. Packed with suspense, heartbreak, betrayal, explosive action, and scorching chemistry, the story balances the raw brutality of the mafia world with a deeply emotional second-chance romance that completely consumes you.
The Accetti empire is crumbling under the pressure of shifting alliances, impending war, and enemies lurking both inside and outside the family. Milo is carrying the crushing weight of responsibility on his shoulders, trying to hold together a family empire on the verge of collapse while fighting threats from every direction. But through all the chaos, one thing remains constant: his need to protect Sable.
After the events of the previous book, Sable and her brother Chance are brought back under Milo’s protection after being hidden away in a remote cabin. Dangerous men like Diego Medina and Bello are closing in, and Milo knows Sable has become a target in a deadly game of revenge and power. The stakes feel terrifyingly real because everyone around them understands one brutal truth—hurting Sable is the fastest way to destroy Milo.
What makes this story hit so hard emotionally is the relationship between Milo and Sable. Their love is messy, painful, and filled with impossible choices. Sable still struggles to fully accept the darkness of Milo’s world, torn between fear, loyalty to her brother, and the undeniable love she feels for the man who would burn the world down to keep her safe. She once chose Chance over Milo, believing she was protecting the people she loved, but this book forces her to confront the reality of what Milo truly means to her.
And Milo? He is absolutely devastating in this book. Possessive, protective, ruthless when necessary—but underneath it all, deeply vulnerable when it comes to Sable. He would sacrifice everything for her, even while his own family questions whether she is worth the risk. Nico Accetti sees Sable as a dangerous distraction during a time when the family can’t afford weakness, and the tension this creates is palpable throughout the entire novel. Sable constantly feels like an outsider, judged and attacked by those who believe she threatens the empire, yet Milo never stops fighting for her place beside him.
The emotional intensity between them is magnetic. Every interaction carries weight—whether it’s anger, desperation, longing, or passion. The romance is consuming, filled with explosive chemistry and intimate moments that are both tender and intensely seductive. But beneath the spice is something far deeper: two broken people trying desperately to hold onto each other while the world around them burns.
The world-building in this series continues to shine. The internal politics of the Accetti empire, the looming crime war, the betrayals within the family, and the horrifying human trafficking elements all add layers of tension and danger that keep the story constantly moving. There’s never a moment to breathe because threats are everywhere, and every decision feels like it could destroy everything.
The supporting cast adds even more depth to the story. Nico Accetti remains a dominating and complicated force, while Marchello and Lissia continue to bring strength to the family dynamic. Josh and Ax are fiercely loyal, and Chance’s reckless behavior adds another layer of emotional strain and danger. Everyone has their own motives, secrets, and loyalties, making it impossible to know who can truly be trusted.
This book is filled with secrets, lies, vengeance, power struggles, and emotional devastation. Every chapter leaves you questioning whether Milo and Sable can actually survive the darkness surrounding them—or whether their love is doomed from the start.
And that ending? Absolutely brutal.
The cliffhanger will leave you shattered, desperate, and immediately reaching for Stolen Throne. Fierce Betrayal is an emotional roller coaster full of danger, obsession, heartbreak, and passion, proving once again why the Cruel Empire series is so addictive. If you love dark mafia romance with morally gray characters, high emotional stakes, protective antiheroes, and relationships forged in chaos and bloodshed, this book will completely own you.
FIERCE BETRAYAL is the fifth instalment in Ella Jade’s contemporary, adult CRUEL EMPIRE erotic Mafia romance series, and the first story in Sable and Milo’s arc. This is Milo Accetti, and Sable’s story line. FIERCE BETRAYAL can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.
NOTE: Due to the nature do the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Sable and Milo) FIERCE BETRAYAL follows the rekindling relationship and romance between Milo and Sable. Nico Accetti believes his son Milo’s girlfriend is a distraction the family does not need but with the approach of an impending crime war, and a need to stop human trafficking, Sable is about to become the target of some very dangerous men. Desperate to protect Sable, Milo begins to circle the proverbial wagons but someone else is taking aim from the outside.
The world building focuses on the Accetti family business structure, and the potential betrayal from within. Sable finds herself on the outside looking in, often verbally attacked from those hoping for better control but as Milo is pulled deeper into the family business, Sable will become a pawn in the impeding war.
The relationship between Milo and Sable is one of second chances but Nico Accetti struggles with his sons’ choice in women, and Sable is another difficult choice for the head of the Accetti family. Sable brings with her baggage that threatens the family but Milo is determined to prove Sable is worthy of his love. The $ex scenes are provocative and intense.
The secondary and supporting characters include Milo’s father Don Nico Accetti, his brother Marchello, and his significant other Lissia; Milo’s drivers and security team Josh and Ax; Sable’s brother Chance, and boutique owner Camila. The requisite evil has many faces.
FIERCE BETRAYAL is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is dramatic and intriguing; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are determined and dynamic. FIERCE BETRAYAL ends on a cliff hanger- you have been warned.
This is the fifth book in the Cruel Empire Series but second in Milo’s trilogy. In Fierce Betrayal, Milo is conflicted between his family and Sable. He wants to be with her but her brother is always causing problems for the Accettis. He needs to protect his family without distractions. So he leaves Sable. She is always choosing her brother over him anyway. He gives her the space she needs, away from the world she can’t seem to accept. However, leaving her alone means he is leaving her vulnerable and open to any enemies who want to hurt him by hurting her. When that very thing happens, he refuses to leave her again and is determined to win her back.
Sable is left heartbroken. Of course she chooses her brother. That doesn’t mean she’s not devastated when Milo walked out. She tries to move on with her life. As sad as she is feeling, she has to keep herself together in order to keep watching out for her brother. She misses Milo but she has her pride. She decides to start over but that is short lived when she is cornered by one of Milo’s enemies trying to send a message. Sable doesn’t want anything to do with the mafia world and doesn’t want to be the cause of any killings. When Milo comes back telling her to pack a bag she goes willingly. She knows she’s safe with him. She also misses him but knows they have many obstacles coming their way. Will it be too much for her?
Ella Jade had me tearing up since the beginning. It was sad to see how much Milo missed Sable and how easily distracted he would get. The minute he found out she was hurt, he was consumed with guilt for letting her go. I also felt bad for Sable. Even though she knew her brother was a screw up, she just couldn’t stop protecting him. Even when she missed Milo, she tried to move on. Their chemistry was intense as ever and I loved seeing their sweet moments together. This was an action packed emotional roller coaster that kept me on the edge of my seat. I was pacing, hyperventilating, and yelling. It is filled with action, heat, drama, humor, danger, surprises, and crazy twists. The cliffhanger had me turning the pages.
Fierce Betrayal is the fifth book in Jade's Cruel Empire series. The first three books are Marchello & Lissia's story. The second three books are Milo & Sable's story. While you don't have to have read books one through three, it is best to have read book four - Scarred Heir - before delving into this one as it picks up where that one left off.
Milo Accetti walked away Sable Flynn when she refused to turn her back on her brother, Chance. While physically apart, he thought about her constantly. Recognizing that she was his weakness, he pushed her away when she came to see him. Later she was targeted by Bello and accosted in an alley as he wanted to send a message to Milo. When she came home roughed up from their interaction, Chance assumed it was Milo's doing and promptly left to confront him. Milo would never raise a hand to Sable and was ill feeling responsible for having left her unprotected. He rushed to her side and the two quickly reconnected.
Unfortunately, that didn't eliminate the threat Bello and Medina posed. Medina wanted the Accettis to look the other way as he trafficks women through their city. That was never an option, and when Medina threatened to grab Sable for his business, Milo knew that something had to be done and Sable needed to be protected at any cost.
What follows is a mix of the Accettis planning along with Sable trying to accept that she cannot know everything about the man she loves. I enjoyed the book but unfortunately it fell a little flat for me. I continue to enjoy the relationship between Milo and Sable and I liked that the author brought back Marchello and Lissia to mix things up a little. There were however aspects of the story that felt rushed and I was surprised when she completely skipped over the resolution with the other cities. The cliffhanger ending was exactly what I expected so it didn't come as a surprise.
The story will end with the final book in this series: Stolen Throne. No word yet on when that one is expected. I plan to check it out and hope that Jade delivers the quality storyline I have come to expect from her books. Overall, this one rates 3.5 stars for me.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fierce Betrayal by Ella Jade is hands down a five star read for me. This book had me completely locked in from the first chapter and I still cannot stop thinking about it.
Milo owns my heart. I am fully obsessed with this man. He is ruthless when it comes to protecting his family and the Accetti empire, but when it comes to Sable, you see every crack in that hard exterior. The push and pull inside him felt so real. He let her go to save her, even though it broke him, and that kind of sacrifice says everything about who he is. He is powerful, calculated, and absolutely dangerous, but the way he loves is intense and consuming.
Sable is not weak or naive. She stands her ground, especially when it comes to her brother, and that tension between her loyalty and Milo’s world creates so much emotional weight. Their love feels doomed from the start, and you can feel that ache in every interaction. The chemistry between them is undeniable, but it is layered with hurt, betrayal, and unfinished business.
The mafia backdrop raises the stakes in the best way. There is constant danger, shifting alliances, and the pressure of an empire on the brink of collapse. Every decision feels like it could cost them everything. I loved how the story balanced the brutal reality of Milo’s world with the vulnerability of a man who is terrified of losing the woman he loves.
This book is emotional, intense, and addictive. If you love protective, morally gray mafia heroes who would burn the world down for their woman but still struggle with the cost of that power, Fierce Betrayal needs to be on your list. Milo will absolutely ruin you in the best way.
A captivating one sit read, impossible to put book down once I started reading the book Milo is ruthless when he is protecting his family, when it comes to Sable you see every fear and crack in, he shells as he keeps her safe. Heh had previously actually released her to keep her safe but his love is intense and consuming and cannot let her go. Sable is a strong woman that stands her ground especially where her brother is concerned he is the only real family member she has. The love she has for Milo is difficult and dangerous and yet the chemistry between them is obvious and she loves him dearly. The story definitely shows the decisions and the risks that both Sable and Milo are knowingly taking, there are a great many emotions and major decisions being made and the chemistry between the two is off the charts and readers like myself will be crossing fingers and roes on their behalf. The backdrop of the mafia and all the threats and subsequent risks that come with his element keeps readers guessing from start to finish. With the pressure growing and the shifting alliances between the various mafia empires readers are kept on their toes. This was a wonderfully captivating and exciting read, there are plenty of surprises and major intense and addictive scenes that show both men and women prepared to risk all in an effort to save the all-important partners and loves in their life. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the wonderful writing.

This is Book 2 in the second trilogy, or Book 5 in the Cruel Empire series. It is NOT a standalone & you have to read at least the book right before this (Scarred Heir), which is where I started the series & I have not had a hard time following along.
I am enjoying the series quite a bit, but again, the books all end in a cliffhanger (until the last book which will end in a HEA... so at least you know it will end well, but it's hard to wait in between books!!) 😆
This book has quite a bit of up & down between Milo & Sable... but I'm glad that Milo made sure she was safe, and then she comes back into his life pretty quickly & comes back to live with him... Milo's dad is home now, and it's interesting having Nico as part of the picture also... Sable is a bit wary around him, understandably, but thankfully he's pretty ok with her being there (as long as Milo stays on track & not distracted). I also love that Milo helps Sable's brother get set up (somewhere else so he won't be an issue anymore) & he gets a fresh start. 🤩
The book book is fast paced & ends with a cliffhanger... I won't share spoiler details... Look forward to the last book!!!
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
*dark mafia romance *morally grey characters *on & off relationship *touch her & die *romantic suspense *kidnapping *she's attacked to send a message to him
Thank you to the author (Ella Jade), publisher & Booksprout for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This was another amazing installment of this series! This is the 2nd book of this trio of books and you do need to read book one first. However I absolutely love this world and would definitely recommend reading his brother's trio of books first to get a fuller picture of this world. Also they are just that good so why not?! The writing is done well and these are characters I care about. This doesn't lag and I love the feelings these two have for one another.
She's away from him and already she needs his protection. He shouldn't ever keep her away again...
Nope. Keep her close and closer still. He has his dad to think about and that is a habit that is hard to break. He wants to please him but now he has someone else that he needs to think about even more. The feelings are there and he wants to focus on her more but there is mounting danger and secrets and things are heating up. He needs a lot of things to be in order, but it just isn't so. She chose her brother and I can't disagree with that. But it doesn't mean she doesn't need him either. This as such an entertaining read and I cannot wait to see just how this plays out!

This book is a continuation of their story from the last novel. I was expecting the drama, adrenaline rush & being swept into a hot romantic storyline filtered with life in the dangerous mafia world. Instead I found it disappointing until the last 1/4 where it leads up to a cliffhanger ending. Sable has turned out to be someone who had to know everything Milo’s family was doing or planning. When Milo wants to send Sable away to a safe-house, she declines & insists on remaining by his side. She interferes with Milo’s missions against the opposing mafia family who wants to destroy Milo’s family & steal their territory. This shows Milo is weak to them & in order to get to him, they go after her as leverage. She’s not the strong woman I was hoping for because of choices as she keeps interfering with his growth as a mafia leader. His dad needs Milo to be strong & show the underworld their family is a force to be reckoned with & not as a weak one. As this book leaves as a cliffhanger, the third book needs to be as excellent as their first story.

I received an Advanced Reader Copy and am voluntary reviewing it. Ms. Jade is the queen of cliffhangers. She puts readers on the edge every time. We are still with the Accetti family. Nico is back and now they need to figure out how to get Marchello back. The trinity needs to be whole before the war starts. Milo is back in town after leaving Sable with her brother, Chance. You have to read this series to understand everything that is happening. Milo is in deep but Sable is not ready to accept his lifestyle. He has to make a decision. Family first always.
Diego Medina is not going away. He wants what he wants and the Accettis are blocking his path. He will use any means necessary to get what he wants. That means using something or someone that means something to them. Sable gets the first warning. Milo is back in her life after that. Sable has to make some decisions. Can she accept the life that Milo leads? Milo is a good person and he vows to keep her and her brother safe if he can stay out of trouble.
This book gives readers a lot to think about and a lot to hope for. Things seem to be falling into place until everything falls apart. Ms. Jade leaves readers hanging on a ledge. I can't wait for the next book in this series. I have to see what is going to happen next. I'm ready Ms. Jade. Are you?
This second book gave me exactly what I signed up for: high-stakes mafia drama, a morally gray man, and full touch her and you die energy. I don’t usually start trilogies before all the parts are out, but I took a chance on Milo and Sable and I’m so glad I did because their story keeps delivering. Their reunion is intense and emotional, but being together means facing the brutal truth of Milo’s world: enemies, betrayals, and impossible choices. The tension between love and loyalty stays strong as Sable tries to accept every side of him while Milo fights to protect her and his family’s empire. I loved the found-family vibes and seeing Sable step into her strength even as danger closes in. The chemistry is fire, the spice hits just right, and everything builds to a brutal cliffhanger that left me immediately needing book three. I love it!!!!.

Holy cow tots book just didn’t stop from beginning to end. I devoured this book in on sitting and need Stolen Throne now!!! I love Ella Jade’s Cruel Empire series and Milo and Sable’s trilogy is my favorite. I thought this book was exciting, original and Page-turning. It is filled with suspense, action, heartbreak, groveling, angst and spice. I love a good mafia romance and this book and series has it all!!! Forbidden romance, he’s obsessed and falls hard and fast. She’s determined and loyal to her brother. I love the push and pull, the roller-coaster ride of emotions this book brought out in me was amazing. I felt their heartbreak and their undeniable chemistry. They were intense and like magnets pulling towards each other even when they fought it. If I could give this book and series more than 5 stars I would!!!.

Dark Mafia / Enemies to Lovers / Tortured Hero / To Be Continued
Cruel Empire Series - Book Five - Nico is home to set his empire straight, and Milo is completely devastated that Sable chose her brother over him. When Sable gets roughed up, Chance runs to Milo, assuming he hurt her. Milo goes to see Sable while Nico takes Chance, sits him down, and has a very frank discussion with him. Sable returns with Milo, and Chance is on his way to Italy to learn wine making. Medina and Bello are still trying to get Nico to take a meeting to further their trafficking business. Marchello and Lissia have returned, and the family is finally reunited. Things are really heating up, and the Ancetti men are taking measures, but Medina and Bello are always one step ahead. I am so ready for book six to “hopefully” see them get their HEA.
'Staying away from her is no longer an option. She needs my protection even if she doesn’t want it. But why would she ever take me back?'
'This book contains dark themes that may be disturbing to some readers. Scarred Heir must be read first. The Cruel Empire Series is set up into three interconnected trilogies. You can begin the series with Ruthless Oath.'
The characters were very complex and compelling and complicated and perfectly steamy together. Plot was intriguing and intense and well paced. World building was solidly drawn and impressive. All in all a great addition to the series. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend!

Ella Jade starts book two of Milo and Sable’s story where the first ended. Sable wants Milo, but she feels so protective of her brother that she’s torn. I love the depth of emotion, the energy between Sable and Milo, and the sense of family that Nico embodies! It’s a dangerous world for all of them and their enemies are very threatening toward Sable.
There’s passion, intrigue, heartbreak, and cruelty that kept me captivated from beginning to another excruciating cliffhanger! I want the Acetti’s to find their happy ending, but it’s been a long journey! The TW should be noted. 4.5 🌟and 5🔥. I can’t wait for the conclusion!!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love a story that has a Mafia backdrop and that continues over several parts and the “Cruel Empire” series does just that. Milo and Sable’s story continues with all the angst, danger and possessiveness that come with these Mafia men. Milo has a real dilemma. He’s trying to navigate his way through a dangerous and brutal world while trying to keep Sable safe. As far as Milo’s lifestyle is concerned, Sable is a little naive and tends to, inadvertently, make things more difficult for him. Everything builds towards a feeling that something is about to happen with every decision possibly being the wrong one. I was turning the pages at an increasingly fast pace until, suddenly, I was at the end and wanting to know how events were going to play out. Now waiting for the next instalment and the rollercoaster ride I’m sure it will involve!
Thank you Booksprout for the early copy and I have chosen to leave a review.
Let me start by saying I detest cliffhangers !! Milo and Sable’s story ends on two big ones so if you are like me and can’t stand them, wait for the next book to come out ! That being said, this is a 5⭐️ read. The characters from all of the previous books are present and the morally gray characters standout from the completely black soulless ones who traffic women. The heat between Sable and Milo is off the charts and is open door. The storyline is well written, it just ends on the dratted cliffhanger. 5✨’s and I can’t wait for the next story !.

Nooo..that cliffhanger is just arghhh..i need to find out what happens next.. Sable and milo are back and this one kicks off straight from scarred heir.. You see how milo tries to balance his life between being who he is and doing what he has to do and his need to protect sable and his love for her.. You also see how sable loves milo but is also trying to figure out how she fits in his world.. I love how the father and brothers are all back together now and just when we going to find out "is she, isn't she?" something happens and boy can I see milo going off the handle now.. Cannot wait to read the next book now
I was anticipating this book after the end of the last book. It was great and I was happy to read it.
Milo tried to keep Sable safe by rejecting her, but things don't go his way. When she finds herself in the crosshairs of his enemies, she's convinced that he won't protect her. When Milo finds out that she's in danger, he can't stay away any longer.
I enjoyed reading this second book in the trilogy and I can't wait to read the third book in the triology. I'm anxious to find out how it's going to end.

Wow! What just happened and how can I be left waiting for the next book??? Again this series sucks you in on page one and keeps you gripping the pages. Before you know it, you are at the end with a cliffhanger and begging for the next book.
I love this family and all of their trials and tribulations. There is always danger lurking and you just keep hoping one day things will calm down and they can all find peace. Well at least for a short while or the stories would t continue.
If you haven’t started this series… RUN to check it out! It’s great!
Milo and Sable's story is a gripping, unpredictable page turner. I read it in one sitting. It is an exceptionally written narrative with lovely characters. I loved the mafia component, the touch her and you know what happens kind of energy, and the found family concept. I also liked the build up throughout the story, all the little pieces that fall into place along the way and that unexpected ending. I cannot wait for the next piece of this story. Thanks so much to the author for a copy. My opinions are my own and freely expressed.
Milo is trying to come to terms with letting Sable go but fails when he realises she is still at risk so takes her back into his world. Her brother is still a loose cannon but Milo's father steps in with an opportunity for Chance that he can't refuse.
The threat from Medina is still present and he gets help in enforcing this from sources close to Milo.
I'm looking forward to the next book when hopefully there will be a happy ending.

I was looking forward to this next chapter in Milo & Sable's story and it was story that I didn't want to put down. This story picked up where the previous book left off & I am eagerly waiting for the conclusion to their story. The characters draw you in & the action in the story makes you never want to leave.
This was such a well written book & it kept my attention the whole time so much so that I was sad it was over.
Book five of the "Cruel Empire" series, but book two of Milo and Sable's trilogy. The storyline picks up shortly after Milo left Sable and Chance at the cabin. While he understands her loyalty to her brother, his pride is wounded. Sable is torn between the man she loves and the brother she can't abandon. All looks lost. When Milo's enemies start coming after Sable he realizes that the only way to protect her is to keep her close. Can their love survive all the fractures?
Fierce Betrayal by Ella Jade is the continuing story of Milo and Sable. She wants to keep her brother safe. Milo decides it is best to stay away and focus on the Family. But, the pull is strong and both of them hope things will be ok…between them, everything surrounding them…and everyone surrounding them. It’s steep, slippery slope and neither knows nor can predict the outcome. Now, both of them are in major danger…ends in a cliffhanger!!!
This book was WOW, for me. Milo can be truly ruthless when it comes to protecting the ones he cares about. It just makes my heart sing. Sable definitely matches Milo in her strength and loyalty. This book was exciting in a way that I could not get enough of. Danger swirls around them, but their relationship seems to ground them in a way that is fascinating. Great book.

Milo knows he has to keep his focus on his family, but Sable is a distraction. Sable keeps trying to save her brother Chance who keeps getting in trouble. Will Milo be able to focus and keep the danger at bay? Will Chance turn his life around? A steamy captivating mafia story filled with risks and decisions!

It took me a bit to get back into the story. I had forgotten where we left off and the writing didn’t quite communicate connection, but it pulled me the further I got. It’s still a little disjointed with how the writer has the characters developing and communicating, but otherwise, I’m fully vested in finding how the end.
