How far would you go to get something you really wanted? Like, this-is-the-key-to-achieving-your-ultimate-happiness wanted?

Hi, I’m Cammie. I work at a bookshop, I love a quiet night in, and I’m a dragonshifter with no magic to speak of. Which means unless I can grow my hoard—and by extension, my magic—I’m not much different than a human.

But then the perfect book—the exact book I need to kickstart my book hoard—practically drops into my lap, only to be snatched away when a filthy rich, ridiculously hot guy sweeps in and claims it before I can.

Rude.

Now I’m desperate to get it back, and I’m willing to resort to extreme measures if necessary—measures like bribery, mild stalking, or… taking a job offer?

When the gorgeous book thief offers me the book of my dreams and a huge salary just to find him more books, how can I say no?

Except there’s a the offer comes with a non-negotiable temporary relocation. If I want my book, I have to live in the hot, mysterious billionaire’s castle while I work for him. And living with him means inevitably getting mixed up in his business—some of which might be far more dangerous than I’ve bargained for.

I’m not that desperate… am I?

Bookwyrm Acquisitions is the first book in a new urban fantasy trilogy for fans of Shari Tapscott, KM Shea, and Kenley Davidson. If you love found family, animal companions, and clean romance, dive in today!

Cammie works in a bookshop where they have just received a book she's been looking for for years. As a dragonshifter without a hoard to speak of she doesn't have much magic, and she needs the book to her collection. Then a handsome billionaire shows up and buys it right from under Cammie's nose!
~
"I am pretty sure this bookshelf has it out for me."
~
The first sentence is a good indicator of the tone in this book. It's pretty humorous and I've even laughed out loud a few times. Add dragons and books and you can hardly go wrong!
~
"I love books. They are the one thing I feel a meaningful connection to on multiple levels."
~
There's also Darcy, Cammie's tiny fae dragon, and loads of found family vibes with wonderful side characters.
~
“You may not have noticed, but collecting misfits is exactly my cup of tea.”
~
If I could wish for anything it would be dual POV's. At the same time Nic remains an enigma when we don't get his POV, and that's not wrong. Besides, the author offers two bonus chapters through her NL with Nic's POV and it would definitely have spoiled too much if they were in the book! Cammie often talks before she thinks and she's quite awkward, but I'm already looking forward to see what happens in the next book!

* I received an ARC from the author and I'm giving my honest review. *

I stayed up way too late finishing this book and it was worth all the lost sleep! The Persuasion letter scene—read it twice.🔥 I loved the vibes with the bookish FMC, banter, funny moments, and the epic slow-burn tension. The abilities and mystics were so cool, and the adventure and mystery side of it was awesome. It was just sooo good! I need more now!

OMG this one was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!! I absolutely ADORE all of Constance's fantasy stories, but this one is a bit different being urban fantasy. That absolutely did not stop me from devouring it in one day because it's so impossible to put down! It's magical and intriguing and wonderful and wholesome and all the good things! And it still somehow (magically, I suspect) keeps the charm and cozy vibes that all of her other books have, despite being so different setting-wise. I absolutely adore all of the characters, and the huge cast of side characters that are all just one big found family is my absolute favorite! I seriously cannot say enough good things about this one. I'll be reading it over and over again, just like all of her others books, for sure! If you like wholesome and exciting stories with a huge focus on found family, dragons, magic, nerdy references, and all the cozy vibes, this story is an absolute must read!

Urban fantasy is not my normal go to, but I loved Bookwyrm Acquisition. I didn’t even mind that it ends in a bit of a cliff hanger because I was just excited that there is going to be more. Also I am a SUCKER for a slow burn, so I loved that the romance is still in the works

Cammie was a very likable FMC albeit a bit naive. I love how she doesn’t fall for Nic right away, even though he is pretty swoony. Cammie’s prejudices got frustrating, and were so hypocritical since she has used her persuasion on people BUT by the end she sees the folly of her thinking and has some really good character growth. I’m excited to see how she’s going to fight for what’s right in the next book. I did NOT love the spelling of her name though. My mind kept changing it to Commie 🤣 and Crammie. Cami would be a much better spelling.

The romance is perfection. Perfect amount of tension, and the growth of their relationship seemed realistic.

The world building is AWESOME! I loved the mix of mythicals.

Constance Lopez’s writing always flows beautifully with the perfect amount of description and details.

Fingers crossed that there will be an abstract cover eventually, this is a book I want on my bookshelf!

Very much recommended.

Content: clean, no spice, no swearing, some mild violence, does have a modern setting so words like hot and sexy are used but not obnoxiously.

Thank you dear author for the arc, all opinions are my own!

"Chloe, did you read another book in one sitting again?"
"Indeed, I did."

This exact conversation played out in my living room and just proves how invested I was in this story. And made me relate to our FMC a lot, lol. I love it when FMCs are bookworms!

One of the reasons I love urban fantasy is because of how cozy and "predictable" the world-building can be, but so diverse with the way authors choose to incorporate supernatural lore to form their worlds. This book did not disappoint, and the cast of characters, even the side ones, were so entertaining and distinguishable. It definitely reminded me of the Hall of Blood and Mercy series by K.M. Shea with the rich, morally grey MMC and his "underlings" who can stand for their own. I loved that the FMC and the magical world focus on dragons, one of my favorite mythical creatures. There was enough suspense, action, bookworm references, JANE AUSTEN references, and romance to keep a girl happy for life!

I can't wait for the next book!

I brainstormed, alpha, beta, ARC, and read this deliciously, wonderful book. And I think that Nic and Cammie would appreciate me stealing a quote from Jane Austen. "If I loved [this book] less, I might be able to talk about it more.”

Constance Lopez seamlessly transitions from fantasy to urban fantasy taking her way with characters, description and pacing with her. The characters feel like old friends, the clever description feels like you’re there, and the pacing is amazing. I didn’t want to put this book down (even though I’ve read it through different stages).

Check this book out if you love:
Clean urban fantasy
Found family
Dragon shifters and dragons
Snarky, bookish heroines
Mysterious elements
Slow burn
Animal companions
World building

Thanks for the ARC, Constance Lopez. All opinions are my own.

Books, mini dragons, and a ragtag group of found family?! SIGN ME UP.

Ever since I dove into the Magiford universe last year, clean and cozy urban fantasy has become my comfort genre. Lopez brought all those charming and compelling elements and DELIVERED with Nic & Cammie! And the mini dragon named Darcy?! It’s official. I NEED a mini dragon in my life.

So ready for the next instalment with this fantastic cast!

I loved this book so much!! Clean urban fantasy is such a fun genre, and I always feel like I’ve struck gold in a mine when I read one that I absolutely adore. This book is a treasure!

Cammie is my kindred spirit heroine. She loves books, has delightful bookish thoughts, wears cardigans and comfy clothes, and feels so relatable in personality. Sadly I don’t like tea, but Cammie makes me wish I did. She also makes me wish I could have a fae dragon as a companion, because Darcy is the cutest!

Also, I have to mention Nic. I love his personality, as well as his banter and his interactions with Cammie! Their relationship is a slow burn, and I am so here for it!! I am still a melted puddle from reading their almost-kiss scene because it was perfectly swoonworthy!

Found family is one of my favorite tropes, and I adore the found family in this book. Each character feels so unique and real, and I wish that I could jump into the book and join them all for one of their movie nights. Also, if I could do that, I would have to sample some of Josephine’s baked goods. Their descriptions made me so hungry! Actually, speaking of that, this is the kind of book where the reader should have their own baked treats ready to be enjoyed, as well as a favorite flavor of tea ready to go for the tea drinking readers. You can thank me later. 😉

I could keep gushing about this book for a very long time, but I suppose I’ll stop there. This is a must read for people who enjoy stories with bookish heroines, dragon shifters, humor, swoonworthy moments, intriguing plots, and a setting that feels like it leaps off the page and invites the reader to join the characters. I absolutely love it, and am completely obsessed at this point!

I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This was a cute fast read, Ill read the second when it comes out. I do think she introduced sooo many characters she should have given a little more attention to some of them and fleshed that out more. But it seems the author is setting it up for a longer series since it ended unresolved.

One of my favourite authors, Constance Lopez entered the world of UF, and you know what? She slayed it! I'm convinced Constance can write the alphabet, the phone book, an instruction booklet and have me drooling!

Cammie is a dragon shifter from a once very influential and powerful family, but, with the passing on of her father, everything changed. No longer powerful, no longer influential, the Zeleny clan is trying to gain back what was taken from them. Cammie? Nah, she's not interested in fame, glory or power, she's as happy as a pig in mud with her books. In a society where magic and a hoard is vital for standing, Cammie has neither, well, she does have a touch of magic, for all the good that does her. She might technically be a dragon shifter, but it's rather... challenging. She has little to no magic, she can't shift into a dragon and her attempts at bonding with her hoard are abysmal. Add to that, she only feels animosity for the rest of the Emerald's, they were the ones to topple everything, they were the ones who took everything from the Zeleny family. And a deepset loathing of the Alexandrite clan who k@lled her father.

When a book Cammie has been desperate to have, in the hope it will trigger her magic, arrives in the bookstore she works in, she can barely contain her elation, only to have said book snatched up by a mysterious shopper. Who's very dapper and good looking, although no one's ogling, least of all Cammie...Oh heavens, the lengths Cammie goes to, to acquire this book is so humourous. Mystery hunk, who's name is Nic BTW, offers Cammie a proposition in exchange for the book. No, not THAT kind of proposition! And so she seals her fate, begrudgingly, landing her in a mansion/castle type of abode, with exuberant and different specied inhabitants, who, theoretically, shouldn't even be in the same room! I was so caught up in their antics I wanted to swirl around in glee. And there, right here, is why a Constance Lopez read is a must, diversity of cast; unusual and unexpected, the norm; the story, pure delight!

I really enjoyed the ease with which the characters are penned, they feel familiar, they feel like fast friends, fun, caring, concerned and each of them rather mysterious. Constance kept me guessing on all of them but the biggest "guess" was Nic. As Cammie tried to unravel who and what he was, so did I. One thing is certainly, he's very protective of the people living with him, they are family, and he's determined to help stop the attacks on Alexandrite dragons. Their interactions teasing, their obvious respect and loyalty explicit, yet the why is just out of reach. I loved trying to decipher this mystery on all of them. One thing is crystal clear, they're all misfits, they all harbour a secret. Sophie, Cammie's sister, is a bit of an "I tell it as I see it" person, coming across quite pompous, abrasive at times but her wanting the best for Cammie is genuine. And uncle Gideon is genuine too. I loved his jovial manner and concern for Cammie. He, being the head of the family after the demise of Cammie's father, cajoles Cammie to attend some big dragon gala, which she's dreading. But go she does and heck if all hell doesn't break loose! So exiting, so revealing, so "like what now???" twists.

I was smitten by Nic the moment he appeared, rich, charming, congenial, and when he started quoting paragraph after paragraph of Jane Austen, heck, I did the Victorian swoon! Can he be more perfect??? The way Cammie and Nic skirt around each other is both comical and VERY hot! Constance played his flirtations and Cammie's denials outstandingly, plausibly, beautifully! And then the "danger music" started playing in my head at the gala, when.... nope, not gonna say, but good golly did Ms Lopez start getting me in denial mode, a solid "no! It can't be!" For the rest...you need to read it! And does Ms Lopez stop with the twists! No she doesn't! Because , suddenly, once I'd picked up my jaw off the ground, all the pieces fit, perfectly! I loved the layer of complexity Constance wove into the fabric of the storyline, Cammie was completely realistic, yes she was hurt, yes she was hurting, yes she was betrayed but never, not for a second, did she whine and whine about her situation. Ms Lopez gave her wit and brains, she thought, she processed, she realised. Another huge talent Ms Lopez has. Heck, SHE'S just flipping talented all round! I shut out the world when I started reading this book and let the world back in slowly once I'd done. Slowly.... because I wanted to savour every delightful utterance and moment.

I couldn't help the smile erupting on my face almost from the moment I started reading it, getting wider and wider the more I read, it threatened to become a permanent fixture. Yes, plenty of anxious moments too, some I thought would induce an aneurysm but, by the time I got to the end of the book, I was purring, loudly. Which is just as well, or I would have melted into a puddle from the warmth that spread throughout me! What a gorgeous book! What a gorgeous read! And if the next book doesn't come out soon, I might just suffer that aneurysm from sheer willing it to manifest!

Content:

Profanity: None.

Violence: High mild. There are injuries and mild blood depicted. Specifically broken bones and blood on face. bandages and surgeries (both magical and not). There are dead bodies depicted, but not graphically, just stated that they're dead. There are magical attacks depicted and close calls with those. Everything is action-packed but not gory or graphic.

Sexual: Mild. There is a fair bit of flirting and charisma thrown around. Hand holding, carrying, and a near kiss.

Triggers: There is an aspect of betrayal in the truth being kept from characters. It's mostly emotional, but not intense.

This was closer to a 4.5, but not quite a 5!

This was sooooooo enjoyable!

Cammie is a dragon shifter that is basically human, because she doesn't have a hoard strong enough to have the magical power to shift into a dragon yet. Her hoard is books. She's looking for an elusive volume to a unique set of books, and when she finally finds it...a random guy takes it from her and buys it out from under her nose.

In a desperate bid to acquire said rare volume from random guy, she tries just about everything from offering to buy it from him, to sabotaging his efforts to buy other rare books (in a funny way that made me smirk so much) and finally telling him she'll do anything.

His offer? Come live at his house and be his book broker.

Desperation makes Cammie agree. And she comes to see that Nic (random book thief) is odd in the best of ways, and is a collector not just of rare tomes, but of misfit people.

The mystery behind Nic and his menagerie of found family and friends is what keeps this book adorable and fun. Just who is he? For a good chunk of the story we don't even know what sort of supernatural he is, and why he's doing what he's doing. That need to know really kept me going!

Admittedly I got the mystery fairly quickly, and what was happening, but it didn't matter because by that point I was invested in all the characters. I loved Steve the pun-master, Josephine the gourmet vampire chef, Will the fashion-master seer, and Eri the animal hoarder. They were all delightful. I didn't list everyone, but I could! There wasn't one member of the household that wasn't fascinating in their own way and totally unique in character. I fell in love with them along with Cammie.

The world set-up is so interesting too! This urban fantasy showcases a world where humans and supernaturals live together and know about one another. The dragon clans were so interesting. I love how they have different powers depending on the clan (and they're color-coded! My brain loved that!). I was making a mental list of each one. Emerald=persuasion, Ruby=charisma, Pear=clairvoyant/seer, etc. I can't wait to see more world building in the next book!

The thing that really grabbed me though, was the tone of the whole book. It was humor, action, love, and connection. It really reminded me of K.M. Shea's Magiford series in that respect. It didn't get too gritty or intense, but it had action in it fairly consistently, and it has a slow-burn romance happening. A Quirky and sympathetic heroine, and a sweet found-family. Cozy, yet action-packed!

My only struggle is now I have to wait for the rest of the series. I usually don't read books until the entire series releases, but I just had to read this one.

Constance Lopez really caught my attention with this one! I read one of her books before this and was impressed, now I think she might just make her way onto my favorite author radar!

Picking favorites as a book lover feels as wrong as picking a favorite child as a mother. I either love the book, or I don't. But this book...DANG. I've gotta break my "no favorites" rule. It's simply PERFECTION and a MUST READ for anyone who loves books and dragons.

Honestly, I don't think anyone will even read this review because who isn't one-click purchasing based on the title and cover alone??? In case you need to know more, though, let's get into it!

Everything is perfectly paced and described. The people, the world building, the intrigue and mystery, the plot, the backstories. The book is gripping in the nicest way. Like...usually books are unputdownable because of wicked hooks. Almost like you're forced to keep reading against your will. This one takes you by the hand and you can't help but follow, enthralled and falling in love faster than the characters themselves do. All you want to do is spend time with it. For example, I read this book in two sittings and I absolutely don't have time to read like that anymore. Oops, but also...no regrets.

I really enjoyed all the characters, and again, how perfectly paced our learning is regarding them. A lot of authors I feel like describe the characters only once, and then you're on your own to remember what kind of mythical creature they are. In this one, she perfectly drops little reminders with nearly every interaction. I can't even say how grateful I am for that. It really really helped me learn the world and characters with an ease I don't get to experience.

Also, an interesting note for this book—though it is an urban fantasy romance, the magical side of the world ISN'T a secret and seems like it never has been. Shifters and fae and elves are all a normal part of life alongside humans. It's honestly an incredibly refreshing take on the usual urban fantasy trope of magic being a secret, withheld from humans.

I LOVE all the dragons in this. Not only are there dragon shifters (with different magical abilities for different colors), but there are also adorable little fae dragons that can be familiars to the dragon shifters. Literally the best of both worlds for dragon fantasy!! And the details about dragon hoards are fantastic. I love that their magic is tied to their hoards, and that they can all hoard DIFFERENT things. The FMC in this book, Cammie, builds her hoard with books, but there can be a huge variety. One dragon we meet hoards animals—mostly little fae dragons—and another hoards clothes in the most recent fashions. It's fascinating!

The relationship between Cammie and Nic is *chefs kiss*. The side characters are all great, but man I really enjoyed every single interaction between these two. Especially when Cammie gets flustered and far from eloquent. How very relatable! She's relatable in tons of ways, honestly, and I just adore her and Nic—together and independently.

I received an early ebook copy, and am voluntarily leaving an honest review. I truly adore this book so much. I will, without a doubt, be buying signed print copies of the entire series to add to my own hoard.

I cannot stress enough just how perfect this book is for people who enjoy books, dragons, and a comfortable and thrilling read! I'd rate it more than 5 stars if I could!

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author but wasn’t required to post a review. However, upon completing it, I strongly wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression I had of how I felt reading it.

Constance has really written a book I thoroughly and completely enjoyed! The main character Cammie is one it’s so easy to identify with in all ways other than her being a dragon shifter but her inability to do so because she doesn’t have a hoard to draw magic from. She loves books and a book she has been wanting and searching for ever finally comes within her grasp only to be taken by another. She is desperate and determined to get the book from him and when he make her an offer in exchange for the book she knows she has to accept it.

What follows is a story of prejudices against a particular dragon clan because of what happened to her father but finding others of the same clan
who treat her as a friend and others who are innocent who are also being attacked. In the household she finds secrets she hasn’t been able to find answers to including her enigmatic employer who she finds intriguing, frustrating and later wants to hate when she discovers who he is but finds other feelings overriding those others leaving her more frustrated than before!

When her friends are attacked she is determined to help them but finds later that their enemy is someone she knows all too well.

This book is the first in a new series and I overwhelmingly and enthusiastically am happy to recommend this book to one and all as one I know you’ll enjoy as much as I did! I can’t wait for the next books to come out so I can continue to read about my friends and the conflict Cammie faces because of who the enemy is.

There is humor in this book but also a story of a girl who just wants to be able to gain the magic necessary to be able to shift into her dragon form for the very first time and feel like she isn’t human anymore but also finds real friendships where she’s never had any before. It’s a story only those who truly know what she’s going through and feeling will appreciate but everyone else will enjoy as well because the story will capture your attention from the start and the pull will keep you mesmerized throughout the whole reading experience!

I loved it and found it very hard to put down and was only disappointed because the book had to end for now. I am certainly anxiously awaiting the next book(s) to continue reading about the adventures my new friends are going to experience while I follow along as they do!

If you’re looking for a book that has action, adventure, discovery, warmth and friendship this book is all you’re looking for- including a slow burn romance I believe between Cammie and her employer/friend and possibly a lot more pick up this book and enjoy it and tell your friends and family to read it as well!

There are secrets yet known and adventures yet to be taken so join Constance’s fans and discover what you’ve been missing!

Cammie is a dragon shifter with very little magic - she can't even shift. She loves her quiet life outside of dragon politics with her fae dragon, Darby, and working at the bookshop. The bookshop is the perfect place for her to try to find the missing volume of a collection of books she has been searching for for years. Of course, the day that book comes into the shop, a stranger walks in and buys the book. Not one to give up, Cammie keeps finding ways to try to make a deal with Nic. Now, not only must she work for him collecting books, but she must also live with him and his eclectic group of employees and friends. But are all these people who they really seem to be or is something underhanded going on behind her back?
I adore Cammie! She loves books, tea and solitude. She wants to stay away from her clan, except her family, and politics. She is determined to start her own hoard and of course she wants it to be books. But once she has gotten to know these "misfits' of the castle (yes - a real castle!), she finds out that books may not be everything in life. Nic is an enigmatic, secretive person but seemingly has good intentions. He obviously cares about the other residents of the home, but there is just enough mystery about him you will be kept guessing about him for awhile. And the cast of characters that live in the castle! Omg they all bring something wonderful to the story! Such a diverse group of mythicals who work despite their differences. And don't get me started on how absolutely darling all of those little fae dragons are!!
This book has a cozy vibe, like pulling on your favorite cardigan sweater on a cold night. It definitely has the food and tea aspect of a cozy. You really get into Cammie's head and emotions. While there some high stakes moments, there is more buildup of all the mystery and turmoil. There were some things that once you find out you were like I knew it, but there were definitely some moments where it was an absolute shock and you were left reeling about what had happened. I have read one or 2 books by this author that were not UF, so I was not sure what to expect but I was absolutely in love with this story! This is definitely going to be one of my new favorite series.

Thank you Constance Lopez for honoring me with your ARC. I loved it so much!

Bookwyrm Acquisitions is a cozy fantasy book that takes place in modern times. Rating: 5⭐️

Camila Zeleny is us (minus the Dragon). Not literally, I am not joking. She loves to read and hoard books and likes to have her peace of mind, a good book, and some tea. She works in a bookstore and can't stop being fascinated with the special and rare books sometimes they have delivered. Cammie has lost her parents and her closest family is her uncle and sister. Everything is great until she finds a book so dear to her and the only one missing from her collection. But before she managed to save it, a specific guy named Nic came and took it from her hands. But our FMC is not one to be messed with. She will do everything she can to have that book in her collection. So what will happen? Will she succeed? Who is this mysterious multi-millionaire guy that caught her eye?

Nic O'Halloran on the other hand is the MMC who is ready to buy everything from the Bookstore and actually goes to great lengths for these books. The question is, why? He doesn't seem to know the details that are crucial for those books and especially the book Cammie wants so what is his goal? Maybe her or maybe something else.

The characters that surround our MCs are the best. From the grumpiest to the funniest and they vary a lot. Darcy is also amazing and the connection with Cammie is adorable.

Constance Lopez as always, promised and delivered. I don't really care if you think I am biased, I love her writing from the first book of hers I've read "The Winter Prince" and I will never stop saying how vivid her pen is. Her imagination is limitless really. None of her stories has disappointed me ever, on the contrary, she always writes new worlds I can't wait to explore.

Need book 2 the soonest. Thank you @constancelopezauthor for having me on your street and ARC teams. Happy Release day!

What is your go-to genre??

Urban fantasy isn’t usually my go-to genre, but when one of my favorite romantasy authors releases a new book, I had to give it a try.

I’m so glad I did because “Bookwyrm Acquisitions” by Constance Lopez is a fun, cozy, and fast read. If you enjoy urban fantasy with the vibe of Kenley Davidson or Shari L. Tapscott, this is right up your alley.

Cammie is a dragonshifter without a hoard and, unfortunately, without magic. But she is not bothered; she would much rather curl up under a blanket with tea and a good book than deal with dragon politics. She is working on her hoard… it’s just hard to find the perfect book to start with. So when that perfect book gets snatched out from under her by an absurdly rich (and absurdly attractive) man, she’s determined to get it back. When he offers her a job in book acquisitions (her specialty) in exchange for the book and a very nice paycheck, she agrees. The only catch? She has to live in his castle. This is where it gets good…forced proximity, mysterious secrets, and lots of chemistry.

Our thoughts:
Swoony Romance: 3/5 We love a good slow burn, and this one combines tension and banter while we watch the relationship grow into something deeper
Language: 0/5
Favorite Character: Sergei, we love a grumpy but secretly sweet bodyguard
Favorite Side Character: Darcy, the most adorable dragon familiar
World Building: It is a blend of modern coziness and hidden magic. The setting is our everyday world with bookshops, castles, and city life, but has just enough fantasy to make it feel enchanting.
Favorite quote:
“The way he says it, the way he stares into my eyes while he says it—with all sorts of delicious intensity—short circuits my brain for a second.”

“I’m absolutely a nosy person, but mostly in my head. Being nosy out loud is another thing entirely.”

Bonus: The story wraps up without a major cliffhanger, but there’s definitely plenty left unresolved. We are going to need book 2 ASAP!

I was given this ARC by the author. All opinions are my own.

an absolute delight of a story

Rating:4.5⭐️

Bookwyrm Acquisitions, the first in The Book Hoard Collective urban fantasy series by Constance Lopez, is an absolute delight of a story.

Lopez is new to me as an author. However , I need to learn more about her because this book clearly establishes her characters, setting up her mysteries and connected multiple family tensions and challenges. It’s a terrific read!

Here be dragons. And vampires. And merfolk bodyguards and so many intriguing fantastical beings.

The first met is Camila “Cammie”Zeleny, the younger daughter of a broken dragon clan. Since the death of her father at the hands of another dragon clan, she’s avoided all other dragons, clan politics and even what is left of her own family.

A brilliant booklover, Cammie, works at a local bookstore, sourcing rare books for clients. Which brings her to a new chapter of her life when mysterious wealthy client Nic purchases the very same book she’s been looking for herself.

The story that follows is full of fabulous characters, mystery, and action. I could see where part of the story was headed but I enjoyed every single step of the journey that Cammie is being taken on.

She’s powerless at the start but as events happen, she starts to change. Lopez is creating a believable character whose traumatic past and pain has contributed to her character’s lack of development. And finally she’s moving forward.

I can’t wait to see her continue in this series and the growth she’s achieving. Plus the author left us some tantalizing hints and details about her and the future of all of her characters to come.

Highly recommended.

*I received an ARC copy from author but all thoughts and opinions were my own!

Constance has created a whole world and story that I am COMPLETELY invested in! As someone who actually collects certain book and series I really related to our main character Cammie quite a bit! I loved her personality and her ability to not care how others viewed her and her social standing in a world that values where you are placed in society!
The world is fascinating! Here we have a modern world but where magical creatures such as dragons ( our main magic species focused on in the series) that have human form! This brought me back to when I used to read books like Percy Jackson which also take place in a modern world but with a fantasy element. While I understand this book is a part of a new ongoing series, one thing I would have liked is the magic of dragons and their dragon forms explained a bit better and used a bit more in the book. There were a couple of times I forgot our main characters were dragons and I wish I could have had that element meshed into the story a bit more!
Overall I absolutely adored this book! There is our cozy but spicy bookwyrm of a FMC, Cammie, and our mysterious, flirty, but protective MMC Nic along with the rest of Nic's household who give you the feel of a found family! We have fighting dragon clans, attacks that are mysterious in nature, and secrets being kept! Of course we do have a little bit of some romantic tension that just wants to make you toss your book and giggle all at the same time! The book ends on a slight cliffhanger so be prepared!
Constance deserves all the praise for this book and I cannot wait for the other ones because I was left with so many questions and wanting more!

Bookwyrm Acquisitions is the first Urban Fantasy book by Constance Lopez filled with a number of intriguing elements. The most enjoyable part of the story is the familiars, cute little dragons that kind of remind me of cats with some magical powers. I also liked watching the protagonist bond and connect with the other various mythical creatures like dragons, elves, vampires, and merfolk. I also thought it was clever that each of the dragon clans have differing powers, as well as unique hoards. I appreciated that the lore ran deep enough that mythicals were revealed publicly.

The writing is mostly strong, though some of the chapters felt a little rushed, and there was a little more telling than I’d like. Though romance is noted in the story blurb, it’s a relatively minimal part of the story, not even a kiss happens. Admittedly, this was a disappointment to me because of how beautifully Constance can write romance. Urban Fantasy as a genre has a range of how modern it can feel, and this story felt a little more modern in the writing style than I’d prefer, even if not heavy. I also struggled to connect with the female protagonist as she could be selfish and vindictive at times, even if she is more often kind and giving.

Though this story has some solid world building elements and is mostly well written, I didn’t connect to it as well as some of Constance’s other works like Of Tides and Treason. With the limited romance, struggling to connect to the protagonist, and the modern elements, there’s a good chance I won’t continue this series, I’m leaning towards a 3.5 rounded up to a 4 star.

Reader’s Notes:

-this is the first book of a trilogy & must be read in order

-this is told from Cammie’s point of view

-there is some fantasy violence

Review:

Oh my goodness, I loved this book! I ended up binge reading it in a day and didn’t regret it because of how good it was (but also slightly regretted it since the next book isn’t available yet 😅)!

I loved getting to know some of the characters/creatures in Constance Lopez’s urban fantasy world (or as she calls them, mythicals). It was interesting especially with our main character Cammie to see the dragon aspects of things going on and how the events/politics of this world affected how she went about her goals during the events of this book. I loved getting to know the various mythicals within Nic’s home (as well as Nic himself) and see Cammie warm up to them after having been on her own in a sense for awhile. I loved the build up of the romance to come between Cammie and Nic (as well as how their housemates took the change), and desperately need to know what will happen with that in future books!

In case you couldn’t tell, I really want the next book and will be keeping my eye out for the preorder when it does come! 😂

(Side Note: This book really is great for fans of Shari Tapscott, KM Shea, and Kenley Davidson’s urban fantasy series! I loved theirs as well as this one!)

Summary:

Cammie is a dragon shifter who can’t shift due to having no magic and no hoard to speak of. But when the perfect book to kickstart her hoard comes across her at the bookshop she works at, things start to look up. Until a visiting billionaire purchases it from the shop for a much higher price than Cammie can afford to top. But that doesn’t stop her from trying to bargain with him anyways.

What Cammie didn’t expect was for the billionaire to offer her a job in exchange for the book. A job that not only pays higher that her current one, but also would be doing something she loves: looking for and acquiring rare books for her employer.

But a caveat of the position? Cammie must be willing to live in the billionaire’s home for the duration of the employment. With people she doesn’t know who defy everything she knows about their mystical races.

Cammie isn’t that desperate for the book, is she?

Bookwyrm Acquisitions slowly grew on me. Yes, it had to do with the world-building, but knowing that this is the first book in the trilogy, it was kind of expected. And btw, what a cool world it is! It feels both fresh and unique, and it reminded me a bit of Rachel E. Scott's latest in the way of taking old or overused types of characters and giving them a fresh take in a new world.
It's been a few months since my last UF, and I absolutely want to move to this one! It feels cozy, the descriptions are humorous (seriously, so many highlights!), and that's all thanks to the voice of Cammie, our FMC, who's so relatable despite being a dragon shifter. I mean, a love for tea, books, and cardigans? When can I hang out with her? And don't even get me started on not Bingley Darcy! 😍 Where can I get one? 🐉 I totally also want to go hang out with Eri and all her tiny little friends. For real, the side characters were just as cool and great as the main ones, and I loved getting to know all of them. From Sergei the merman to Josephine the French vampire, as well as Will and Kaldruin, this book brings to life a cast that makes for a great #FoundFamily

And as for the other MC? Nic was such a dream/tease/mystery, pick your word, it fits. I loved getting to know him and all his layers, while I was also trying to figure out just what kind of creature he was. Of course, there's also the mystery regarding the clans, and by the time the plot twist hit, I was already hooked, line and sinker, and I absolutely cannot wait to continue this story with the next book! ~ 5+ stars and completely recommended!

PS: If you haven't read the bonus content for this book, you're totally missing out. Between those chapters and the epilogue, my heart can't even! Seriously, Nic is just 😍! OK. *When* are we getting the next one? Asking for myself. :)

Bookwyrm Acquisitions by Constance Lopez is every book lover’s dream with dragons, books, and billionaires.

I am always hesitant about urban fantasy, but this one blew me out of the water. Dragon shifters, collecting old books, and having your own little dragon companion. Gosh, why can’t this be real life. The author does a great job in explaining the lore throughout the book without being too dumpy, she gives just the right amount of information in just the right places. With every chapter we get something new and exciting, new magic, new species to ponder, and oh the banter.

🐲 cute animal companions
🐲 forced proximity
🐲 found family
🐲 dragon shifters
🐲 urban fantasy with slowburn clean romance
🐲 mysterious hot billionaire MMC
🐲 bookish FMC
🐲 banter galore

I loved each and every single conversation, between each of the characters, main or side. There were just so many side characters that made this story feel perfect and well-rounded. Stabby mermen, punny humans, and a baker vampire, really what more could you ask for? Cammie really made this book amazing, her thinking process, her backstory, and her values were strong. Nic was charming, and mysterious, and a lover of classics. Who doesn’t love a man in a suit? When is the next book coming out? I couldn’t put this book down at all!

I recommend this book to everyone who wants a great enemies to friends (that slow burn) urban fantasy.

Thank you Constance Lopez for the free book.

That’s it! It’s official. I need the next two books yesterday. How am I supposed to go on when I don’t know what happens next?! *Sobs dramatically* Okay. Now that I got that out of my system I can continue on. Bookwyrm Acquisitions is an absolute blast. Urban fantasy has to be done just right for me to enjoy it and this one hit the nail on the head. I mean, who doesn’t relate to a dragon whose hoard consists of old books?

Speaking of book-hoarding dragons. Cammie is a fun and relatable character. She’s a little lonely and just pushing through life (See? Relatable.). I loved watching her get thrown in with a ragtag group of fantasy creatures. Her internal dialogue cracked me up at times. Nic. Oh, how I love him. He may be rich and mysterious, but he is also a sunshiney-sweetheart. Also, I had (and have) my suspicions about him but we will just have to wait and see if I’m right. Cammie and Nic’s interactions are so cute. Let me just say, the banter is bantering. Add in the incredibly entertaining side characters and Bookwyrm Acquisitions is full of fun moments.

The plot of Bookwyrm Acquisitions is pretty fast paced and ends on a semi-cliff hanger. It’s nothing too terrible but it is there, LURKING. I mean, how can I wait for more info? Life just isn’t fair. Anyways, I’m hyped to continue on this journey with Cammie and Nic and see more amazing references!

Thank you to Constance Lopez for an ARC of Bookwyrm Acquisitions! All opinions are my own.

Urban fantasy isn’t usually a genre I read, but I highly enjoyed Bookwyrm Acquisitions.
While a different feel from her usual fantasy novels, Ms. Lopez delivers another compelling story.

The main characters are Cammie (told from her POV), a dragon-shifter working on growing her book hoard (and thus her ability to shift), and Nic, a mysterious billionaire, with his own castle in the Hill Country.
The romance was nice and slow, and unresolved at the end of the book. It leaves you wanting more. I do appreciate that this is a clean romance series.
One thing I didn’t like was all the mentions of smirking. To me, smirking comes off as mocking, not endearing. But it fits with Nic’s character (or what Cammie thinks is his character).
Absolutely loved that Nic knows Persuasion is the superior Jane Austen novel! Seriously my favorite scene in Bookwyrm. All the literary references were great.

I loved all the side characters in Nic’s castle, especially Will and Eri, and I liked that there were ordinary human characters as well as the dragon-shifters, vampires, etc. The worldbuilding is one of Ms. Lopez’s great strengths. I love the details about the dragons & hoards. Each Dragon-shifter clan is based on a precious stone, and has their own type of powers. The hoards the dragons collect are what give them the power to shift.
Overall, highly enjoyable. The plot was well paced, a bit predictable in places, but still had a couple good twists.
I look forward to the rest of the Book Hoard Collective!

This story is fantastic!! The author has debuted her UF writing skills in Bookwyrm Acquisitions and immediately shown a wonderful and absorbing grasp of the genre.

Cammie, the FMC, is a one off and I loved that. Not an ounce of chosen one here! She's a cardigan wearing, magic poor, socially awkward - likeable, hard-working, caring friend who prioritises books and tea in her day. I like a girl who recognises what's important 😉 Her fae dragon familiar, Darcy, is incredibly cute and there's a tonne of affection lovingly crafted into their bond.

The found family element is a huge plus. Not only the genuine connections that have been forged but that each person is somehow a misfit in their clan but perfectly melds into this group. It's a touching, funny, appealingly written spin on that trope.

The mystery that is Nic, the MMC, is compelling in how the author has played it out. I had no idea where the clues to his 'secret' identity were leading me but knew I wanted to follow all the breadcrumbs she had laid out! Despite all his smirking I really liked him. In fact, I liked all the main characters. Solid, beautifully quirky, unique and relateable - they all felt ready to step off the page and feed me baked goods or style my wardrobe or play pun games.

The pacing was perfect, the prose ran smoothly, the storyline was a brilliant blend of mystery, the beginning of some sparkage and humour that ended up being captivating. It was an all round entertaining story. I love where it ended and can't wait for the next in the series.

I was so excited for Ms. Lopez’s debut urban fantasy and it was so fun!
Cammie was so fun! I definitely related to her love of books, tea, and overall cozy vibes! She just wanted to live a quiet life and find her perfect book to start her hoard. Nic’s swooping in to buy the book was not what she expected, but she was willing to take an unusual job and relocation for a chance to get the book. Cammie was brought into a new place and got the chance to know a whole group of quirky characters. I loved getting to know everyone through her eyes. However, Cammie quickly found that there was more going on in the world that she had entered than she realized. I felt like I was able to unfold the clues with Cammie and all of the surprises were so intriguing.
I loved getting to know Nic and all of his chosen family! Nic was so fun! I loved his thoughtfulness and playfulness. I adored all the side characters too! They were so fun and provided insight into the world that was being created. I would love to get to know all of them more and learn their stories.
This is the first in a series and starts the story. I was definitely intrigued by the overarching story and especially how Cammie’s history plays into it. However, there are still so many questions I have and I cannot wait to read more! This urban fantasy has clean romance and some light violence, as well as the past death of a loved one.
I received an ARC.
