"I want to hear it again, yet I don't want to hear it. I want to see her, yet I don't want to see her. What do you call this kind of feeling again?"

This is heading down the route I had hoped to avoid. This series has me completely engrossed.

The title of the book "Ichigo Domei - Masahiro Mita" that Kaori recites in the anime is plainly visible, although it's unclear why she did so (she's reciting from the book, but it might also have been an intention).

What happened at the end? The ending cliffhanger is unsettling. I can't stop myself from becoming concerned.

You might like to wander through a few artistic journals — they’re full of sparks and surprises.

”she’s like a roller coaster. she cries, and laughs. she’s always dragging me every which way. just having her near me turns my monotone world into a wonderful world of color. she’s so dazzlingly bright. and so strong.”

[maybe minor spoilers]

another one of my favorites!! this review might be longer than usual.
every plot line in this is great. surprisingly, i like nagi’s storyline, if only for the part where her and kousei talk and she tells him to still go for love even if she doesn’t love him back.

tsubaki !
tsubaki focus for real this time!! i can empathize and connect with her a lot. the feeling that there’s always someone better than you and that you have no real passion in life. everyone’s moving forward without you. (like the fact that her bf listed all the things he liked about a girl and it was the opposite of her..) i love her!!
side note: the irony of tsubaki wishing time would start again because it feels like it stopped vs. kaori wishing time would stop…hmm

DOOM AND DESPAIR IS ON ITS WAY!!! kaori is getting worse and i’m actually gonna have to suffer through this again. i can’t do this. oh my gosh. i’m so sorry kousei. i hate that he already knows what’s going on.

”the girl who helped a lost child with you. the girl who snuck out of the hospital to wait for you. the girl who explored the school at night with you. can you forget her?”

This is the weakest volume in the series BUT I really appreciated the storytelling. I wish we could have skipped the addition of a “new villain” especially since we’re so close to the end.

A little too heavy on the soap opera this go-round, with a break-up, a mysterious illness, the unnecessary introduction of a new villain, and a cliffhanger final line that inspires "Wait, what -- ??" and WTF double takes as it references a Japanese novel with which I am unfamiliar but quick research shows has a similar storyline.

Review for the entire series.

Naoshi Arakawa's Your Lie in April is a finely crafted work that will draw a steady stream of emotion from the barren crust of a calcified heart. It is a tearjerker, but it's actually a well-balanced work of humor, drama, and romance. At its heart, this story is a tragedy and a love story as well. It is a love story about life; and the tears it brings, whether from joy, sorrow, or delight.

I recommend you read this story alongside the musical accompaniment it suggests in its notes. It will increase your enjoyment by tenfold.

Volume notes:
A new supporting character debuts in this volume, which directly lead in into my favorite performance in the entire series.

Goddamn feels! This was torturing and it isn't the end yet . Kousei and Kaori <3
I really like that Tsubaki came to her senses but hated that she didn't want Kousei to go to music school.
And Takeshi's little sister! Come on teacher Kousei, show us what you can do!

Just about all sadness now. I'm not sure exactly where the story is heading—it's a bit uncertain now that Kosei's gala performance is done. This volume felt a little like stalling for time, but we'll see what it all leads to.

A new character is introduced, though I don't really care about her, but it's interesting seeing Kosei attempt to teach someone else. Lots more stuff with poor Kaori, though.

I was ready to not like this volume as much, but chapter 31 (You'll Do) changed my mind. No matter how this manga ends, I'll be sad.

''Can you forget it? The girl who helped a lost child with you. The girl who snuck out of the hospital to wait for you. The girl who explored the school at night with you, can you forget her?''

I will probably be saying less and less in the next few reviews- until the finale. All I can say for now is that damn, it's starting to hurt alright :D

''What's she like?''

Sumamente recomendable.

I can't decide if I want to rate this 4.5 or 5 stars.

This volume is another emotional volume, which is probably to be expected since we're almost at the end😭

There are so many internal struggles going on in this volume. We has Tsubaki dealing with the reality of her feelings for Kosei, Kosei trying to deal with his love for Kaori and being afraid that what happened to his mom might happen again, and Kaori's struggles internal and physical struggles. We start to see more of what's really going on. We also meet a new character, her name is Nagi and she's up to something.

I had so many emotions while reading this. I expect the last 3 volumes to be emotional as well, I don't know how much I can take, but I'm reading this rollercoaster of a series till the end.
The ending of this volume was unexpected, I did not expect Kaori to say that but I guess it makes sense with what's going on and her personality. It definitely threw Kosei off and scared him even more on what could be going on.

This volume doesn’t quite live up to the original five. As I mentioned in my review for Book 07, I understand that this installment is all about moving the story and the characters forward. It is still wonderfully written and illustrated, but it hasn’t touched my soul in the same way that Volume 5 did. I did find the ending a shock and I am wary of the journey the story is taking. I did find the introduction of a new character a little jarring at this point. However, I’m still very eager to continue reading the series, and I’m enjoying the time I spend filling in my reading journal after finishing each volume. It’s also making me look forward to continuing the anime once I’ve reached the conclusion of the manga.

Facing the people you have a difficult time seeing for various reasons seems to be the theme of this book. We learn a lot more about Sawabe and the the love triangle (quadrangle?) really is complete. At the same time, Kosei is avoiding seeing Kaori. And Nagi is having to come to a lot of realizations about her relationships as well.

How all of it his is a thing of beauty. So many threads coming together in perfect harmony! This book feels a little slower than some of the others, but that's okay. I think we need the breather before this goes all intense again. Tell me if I'm wrong!

I'm not a fan of the Nagi Aizato storyline. It feels like filler to me. However, the Tsubaki moments in the first part of the book were heartbreaking. Kousei's date with Kaori was also a bittersweet highlight to this volume. Overall, a solid volume. The cliffhanger at the end is disturbing, however. Suicide is a topic of which I carry a lot of personal baggage, so it's introduction into this story caught me off guard, even though I've already watched the anime.

This ep is one of my favourite.

This is when I realize how bad Kaori illness is. Her helpless cry really hurt me It is the afternoon of her with Arima, her question to him: "will you forget?", her outburst emotion that made Arima realize that something is wrong. This ep is for Kaori, my beloved female protagonist.

Trust me, you will go through many emotions reading it.

Kosei takes on a new student and Kaori begins to wither. The final page of this one was really jarring. I guess I've read enough manga that I should have seen it coming, but it changes the tone quite a bit.

It's incredible how well this series has been dealing both with trauma and feelings in general. There are a lot of dramatic threads being unfolded every volume, but it all feels really natural. Another masterful volume.
