Tap Out: A Dark Taboo Romance

Rate this book
This is a dark romance intended for the 18+ audience.
Bailee Sterling is a 28-year-old waitress stuck in her small town. While her older brother, Kayden, is deployed in the military, she’s forced to take care of her alcoholic father, putting up with emotional and physical abuse for the sake of being her only family.

But when mysterious men come knocking on her door and inform her of Kayden’s death, everything changes.

One of the men, Draven Romanov, a 29-year-old Special Forces Lieutenant, was the one she tapped out at the bootcamp graduation ceremony a decade ago. Ever since then, she’s been on his mind and a little glimmer of hope through every hardship he’s endured. Before he knew who she truly was, he’s already made a vow to her brother to protect her.

And that’s exactly what he’s going to do, even if it means protecting her from himself.

Man, this started out interesting and seemed like it might be good, but it quickly devolved into a rushed mess that was all over the place. The author sacrificed actual connection in favor of a mediocre daddy kink. I wouldn't mind the daddy kink if there was some work put in to developing their connection, but as it was, it was really hard to understand why anything was going the way it did. H randomly didn't talk to her for like the first half of the book? The reasoning made no real sense and that was kind of on brand for how the whole story went. The ending was terrible and rushed. The way she just immediately forgave him for lying about having a wife previously and then kicking her out and saying awful things to her....that level of instability after all the instability she faced all her life was close to unforgivable and shouldn't have been instantly erased. Also, you really want me to believe she was a 28 year old virgin? Her age made no sense, she acted 18 at best, not 28. No idea why the author made her 28. The author has a lot of work to do to level up her writing.

First off thank you for the opportunity to receive an ARC!

Tap Out is a Dark Romance Novella (**Please check TW**)
Bailee and Draven two broken souls dealing with some heavy trauma, feeling unloved and unwanted (felt), from the moment they met as brief as it was is all it took for her to never leave his mind. Over time a tragedy occurred but doesnt sad times bring you closer cause they found each other once again. I loved the banter between them, the way he reassured her and validated her when she was having self doubts. They were soul ties , and no one could cut that string. They had a HEA, but of course had some bumps in the road!
Definitely reccomend this if youre looking a quick read to add to your tbr!

I had high hopes for this novella, but I couldn’t quite connect with it. The rushed pacing and numerous errors hindered my ability to focus. The plot was riddled with holes, and I finished it only because it was so short. The smut was just average. While the concept is intriguing, the execution leaves much to be desired.

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟

“You are mine until your last f*cking breath, Bailee. Mine to f*ck. Mine to own—mine to break.”

Tropes:
-Daddy k*nk
-spicy
-dark romance
-best friend’s sister
-trauma
-abuse, neglect
-innocent/ virgin FMC
-morally gray MMC
-dom/sub
-obsessive MMC

I knew this would be good the moment I saw the playlist because I adore ATL. Mind you, I rarely pay too much attention to the playlists included at the beginning of the book, but this one caught my attention.

I was also tearing up about 5% into the book—you know a book (or a novella, as it were) is good when it can emotionally hook you that fast.

Bailee was perfect and sweet and innocent (maybe a little too innocent at times). Draven was dark, hot, dangerous, and the perfect Daddy for her (though I did want to slap him several times lol).

“The passion I have for her will consume me. And the love I have for her will destroy me.”

“I want to own her. And I will.”

I absolutely loved how obsessed Draven was with Bailee! He would do anything to protect her and keep her happy.

“I will cross every f*cking line when it comes to you. I can’t control myself, darling.”

I will admit to being a bit confused at times. It felt a little unclear and jumpy in parts. Particularly, it felt to me like Bailee was always going to bed? Lol. Maybe it’s just me. And some turns of phrase were just a bit off. But I did enjoy this novella very much, nonetheless!

Overall, this was a fast paced, very spicy, emotional novella. It covers grief, trauma, love, and much more. It had me hooked the whole time and that’s definitely not always something I can say!

“You’re never too much for the right person.” 💖

Thank you so much to Atanasia Mazzitelli for selecting me as an ARC reader!

Thank you so much for the Arc opportunity and when i say i ATE this book up, i mean, i ATE IT UP AND LEFT NO CRUMBS!

This book is super easy to fly through (it’s only 163 pages), but it hits hard. Emotional, dark, sexy—holy FUCK. The trigger warnings are legit, so seriously, read them first. The intensity starts right away and sets the vibe for how the MMC and his crew affect the FMC. The daddy/little dynamic isn’t just kink—it’s safety, trust, communication, and letting yourself be cared for. And honestly? The book nails that. I laughed, felt, cried, loved… I lived in these pages. Draven owns my heart now.

If you like Call of Duty or Task Force 141, the energy is there—team vibes, callsigns, the way they move and talk. Total Ghost/Soap/Gaz/Price feels, and I was eating it up.

The found family part hit me the most. The acceptance—even with the FMC and MMC’s “bad thoughts”—gives them this emotional and mental aftercare they desperately need. I’m honestly jealous of that, which makes me even more attached to the story.

And somehow, the fake marriage trope actually works here. I usually hate it, but the tension between the MMC wanting it real and the FMC assuming it’s all convenience kept me hooked.

There are some on-page moments from the trigger warnings that made me squirm, so I listed the pages for anyone who needs to know. But again—everything is consensual between the characters, and the story is fiction:
• Ch. 15 — g*re, bl**d, dism3mb3rm3nt, trt*re, d**th (pp. 114–116)
• Ch. 17 — b*rned to d**th (pp. 132–133)
• Ch. 18–19 — dr*g use, mentions of/unconscious play (pp. 134, 136–137, 139)

Tap Out was a quick read and I loved it. I could read about Daddy D and Bailee forever. It was a marriage of convenience but turned into so much more. A promise to he brother and a lifetime of love and spice.

The spicy scenes were chefs freakin kiss!!
💋 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

Draven tried so hard to stay away and keep his distance but the chemistry that he had with her and the pull she had on him was beautiful. She knew how to get what she wanted and he was willing to burn the world for her.

This book made me scream at my phone, kick my feet and less than 20 pages in bawling my eyes out. It’s a perfect brother’s best friend trope. It was raw, emotional, comical and it just flowed flawlessly. Both of them had so much trauma and their trauma is what brought them closer. Bailee was his mission and she turned into his lifeline. Draven was her savior and he proved he was hers in more ways than one.

I also loved that this was the definition of found family. She lost so much but gained more. This is a must read.

I need more of them please and thank you. 💕

Tap Out is a dark taboo romance that grabs you in the first chapter and before you know it you're reading the epilogue.

MMC Draven (Shadow) and FMC Bailee who is the sister of a fallen military brother that Draven has promised to watch over. Draven has a past that Bailee does not find out until the end which causes him to have to explain and reassure Bailee of his love for her. Draven takes care of those that have traumatized Bailee in the past. This begins as a slow burn and turns in to a scorching treat!

I loved these characters, as well as the side characters Bones and Viper who also stay in the same home. Hopefully we'll get their stories. Thank you @atanasiamazzitelli.author for this fabulous book!!

Quotes:
“Family doesn’t hurt family. Family doesn’t do what he did to you… for years.”

He taught me it’s okay to be myself. What sincere love is and how to stand up for myself.
“Without you… I can’t breathe. My devotion to you exceeds any moral compass. I should be repulsed, but I’m not. I love you.”

Do you believe in the invisible string theory?” he asks me, and I tilt my head. “What?” His hand cups my chin, angling my face toward his. “You’re drawn to me as much as I am to you. For a reason.”

“Is what real?” “Us.” The corners around his eyes soften, and his shoulders relax by a hair. “Realer than the air we breathe, darling.”

Deleterious Daddies book 1: Draven and Bailee. This is a marriage of convenience, best friends sister, mental health rep, foster care rep, childhood trauma rep, “one bed”, grumpy/sunshine, moody broody MMC, innocent FMC, found family, touch her and d!e, “they meet again later”, grief and loss, healing, good girl x bad boy, dark military romance.
For a shorter read this books was packed with so many great tropes and what a cast of characters. First off, Draven? The epitome of the moody broody MMC that has so much more under the surface. Hes trained to be able to k!ll someone with his thimbs AND he brishes her hair? Get you a man you can do both!
Bailee was so sweet and has just been completely put through the ringer with her tragic and toxic home life. You really sympathized with these characters.
I sped through this read and couldn’t put it down! I can’t wait to read more books in this series! 👀 hello Bones and Viper, I’m looking out for your stories…
I totally recommend this read and this author, it was such a great read.

Quote 💜:

“You’re ravishing when you moan my name.”

“Want to see how heavenly we taste together?”

“Ah, ah, ah… Can’t get too greedy now. I shared a little, but the rest of you… the rest of our release belong to me.”

A promise made pulls Bailee and Draven back into each other’s path later on. Bailee’s had a rough run at life so far, and Draven is wrestling with his own demons, but he doesn’t back down when it comes to taking care of his girl in every way. And yes, he very much enjoys being called her daddy. 🥵
These two beautifully flawed characters fit together in that perfectly uneven way (he's so grumpy thou), and the marriage of convenience angle is worked in just right. She needs protection, and he has that touch her and 💀 energy down pat. (hello military background)
This novella mixes relationship drama, emotional moments, possessive and bossy vibes, and plenty of spice into one quick, great read.

This was a great novella, perfect for anyone looking for a quick dark romance read. Bailee and Draven are brought together by her brother Kayden. First, at his bootcamp graduation, when she taps out Draven when it appears no one is coming for him. Then again 10 years later when Kayden’s dying request to his friend is to protect his sister.

Draven discovers that Bailee has been stuck in her small town with an abusive father and moves her in with him and the rest of the special forces team. This forced proximity becomes the catalyst for their relationship. Between his broody, commanding ways and her smart remarks, they are inevitable. She pushes his boundaries and is ready for the punishment. Meanwhile, he has some secrets that could destroy everything they’re building.

I also want to add, although “Daddy” isn’t usually my vibe (yes, I knew what I was signing up for), everything else about this book was and the “Daddy” part wasn’t over the top. So for anyone else who doesn’t care for that pet name either, I would still recommend this book.

He's 6'6 in the military only
accepts the name daddy comeing from your mouth he's your protector your comfort and supporter but when you disobey (ps no glitter b for Daddy Draven) he makes sure to have you bent over his thigh in the best way possible! He maybe a monster to some
and cross every line even as far as una**** others for you to ensure your safety but never a monster to you not in your eyes it even makes you fall more in love with him I know I did he's definitely my new book husband! I don't want to give away to much spoilers but just as much as this book is HOTTTT there is some emotional accpects and will pull on your heart strings I know it did for me I definitely got teary eyed expecaly with Spider (Kaden Bailee's brother) and all the thing Bailee and Draven went through!over all really good read I definitely recommend!

This book has two of my favorite troupes… brothers best friend and marriage of convenience. This brothers best friend was done a bit different which I appreciated. Instead of knowing each other for their entire lives they enter each other’s life as a sense of duty, and maybe a little bit of sexiness! The marriage of convenience I enjoyed as well, I just wish there was more about it in the over all plot of the book. I understood with the length of the book that there isn’t much time to put in all those little nuances and insta love was a given but I think the author did it in a nice way while there was still some sass on both sides. Overall I would be happy to continue to read through Bones and Vipers stories!

I was immediately drawn into this book and could not put it down. I could picture everything that was happening perfectly
I could really relate to Bailee and I was rooting for her every step of the way. I was really hoping she would find her happiness.
I really enjoyed following the relationships in the book
And the spice was spicy witch kept the book interesting
The pacing of the book was a little fast paced I feel but that didnt bug me
I could Definitely feel the emotions throughout the book as I was reading. This book is a story about how Childhood trauma can shape you and the strength it can take to heal from it.
I would definitely recommend this book and I definitely cant wait for the second one !

Stassi. This is definitely "lighter" than Apricity and Hanker Sore and thank the lord for that🤣 you had me sobbing with those two, almost for this one, but alas it was very spicy so it made up for it😅🙃

This was so fun to read. I enjoyed seeing Bailee finally finding herself and being herself again. And also with Draven (aka Daddy😏😩) Everything about Draven is just so masculine and masculine🥵 and Viper and Bones are too hilarious 😂. They're like big brothers for Bailee which is what she needs after everything 🥹

Very much enjoyed everything about this book 🙃 I cant wait for the rest of the series😏👀

It was so much fun to beta read and arc this book. Draven is everything we are looking for in a MMC and of course, he’s daddy ;). Bailey is just a sweetheart and you’ll instantly want to protect her and see her grow. Draven is in the military and Bailey is trying to survive and seeing how they both heal each other and grow was really heart warming. You get a little bit of everything in this novella, from banter to playfulness to morally grey moments, to the perfect balance of spice. Check your TW and enjoy this story!

Atanasia has done it again, but in a completely different style that I never saw coming, but am absolutely here for. This is a fast, hot, and heavy romance with tons of trauma and some healing between the main characters throughout. It definitely went down some avenues I wouldn't normally read, but was definitely a good way of dipping my toe into the chaos of it all. I truly and honestly enjoyed and loved it! I highly recommend, just please read the trigger warnings! This one gets heavy and wild!

Tap Out is a masterpiece that seamlessly blends contrasting elements, including grumpy/sunshine and bad boy/good girl tropes, with a morally black MMC and a virgin MFC. I devoured this book in a matter of hours, unable to put it down. Draven and Bailee's relationship is undoubtedly meant to be, and I eagerly anticipate the upcoming stories featuring Bones and Viper. I would give this book 6 ⭐️ if it let me.

- Ok, first off, I don’t have a Daddy Kink but this is a safe space and no judging from me. If you DO have a Daddy Kink, Read. This. Immediately! This whole story was intense from beginning to end, so much loss, grief, trauma, discovery and obsession.
I really enjoyed reading this, I loved how the MMC actually FELT his emotions and wasn’t afraid to cry.
And the spice?! WOOOOHHHH!! Read. This. Instantly!😜🥵

Let me start by saying this…

DRAVEN IS DADDY.

It’s short with a HEA

But Draven is daddy ok?! He’s the embodiment of what you need. Dominant, the care, the love, the protectiveness.. oh and a d@mn Amazon tree. (He’s tall)

This story was short but really good and I really enjoyed it. Highly recommend

I really enjoyed this book, it was engaging and well written and I devoured it in one sitting. I loved watching Bailey become more confident with herself and learn to be herself and Draven being the guy who is hard with anyone who dares touch or look at her wrong but also can be so soft and sweet with Bailey.

I am really looking forward to more from the author.

This was a fast, steamy read that definitely scratched the itch for a possessive, morally gray hero and a sweet, broken heroine. Draven was every bit the brooding, dangerous man you expect. He's gruff, commanding, and impossible not to look at twice. Bailee’s innocence and quiet strength balanced him perfectly, even if some moments felt a little too rushed.

I liked the emotional potential between them, but I wish the story had more time to breathe. The setup was there with the pain, protection, connection, but the pacing and depth never fully landed. Still, it was an easy, binge-worthy read that delivered on tension and spice.

If you’re in the mood for a quick hit of dark, obsessive energy with a touch of tenderness, Tap Out will give you that fix!

Tap Out is a breeze to read, but, be warned, it’s a raw, emotional journey. Atanasia Mazzitelli weaves past traumas and polar opposite personalities into a precious found family.

Bailee and Draven find themselves thrown back together after meeting for only a fleeting moment ten years previous at her brother’s graduation from boot camp. When he dies in battle, he makes Draven promise to protect and take care of her.

What comes next is dark and gritty. Two souls damaged from childhood and adult traumas trying to find something more in each other. Their past pain has shaped them into who they are now…together they can help each other heal. But only if they’re brave enough to speak their truths…all of them.

⚠️ Please read the content and trigger warnings. ⚠️

I received an advanced copy. This is my honest and voluntary review.
