And even if the boy from her past has become a real knight with real honor, can she fall for a man who lied to her?

Maybe that doesn't matter now, because Sethe’s old captor is hot on her heels with a new invention that could turn her into something worse than a prisoner. He could turn her into a weapon.

Fortunately, Rigil and Sethe always did know how to pull off a heist--and if they can steal the enemy’s deadly new weapon, they can save the kingdom. For Sethe, this means trusting Rigil without letting him anywhere near her heart. For Rigil, it means a second chance with the woman whose heart he once broke.

And this time, failure could cost them everything.

Dive into this swashbuckling story of second chances, forbidden love, espionage and epic adventure in this fourth book in the Blood of Legends series.

This was a really good read. As book 4 of a spin off series, you’ll fare the best if you read the original trilogy and the first three books of this series before this one, but it *can* be read as a stand-alone. However, you might struggle a bit as I even struggled with pinpointing all of the previous connections and history in my memory. The amount of bloodvoicing magic in this book was amped up and added new dimensions to it that we haven’t seen before. This is a romantic fantasy with medieval tones. A second chance friendship that takes a while for the romance to kick in. Our heroine is scarred and our hero has kept his identity as an heir secret from her for many years. This book had suspense and intrigue, as well as a few scenes that had some torture. It was a good read and I’m looking forward to reading the next spin off series. This is a just kisses romance, intimacy level 2. 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

Content warning: child trafficking and abuse

Rigil Barak has a lot of regrets, and Sethe is one of them. When they are unintentionally separated as young teenagers, Rigil believes she’s dead and he failed her. Sethe, on the other hand, believes he betrayed her and left her to die at the mercy of her captor, who delights in experimenting on her in order to control her special ability. When both stumble upon each other while attempting to escape the same castle and captor, the two are forced once more to put aside their past grievances and dreams. They must work together if they wish to survive–and to save the kingdom from Sethe’s captor, who is intent on conquering it through using Sethe and her power–an ability known as blood-voicing, through which one can read others thoughts and even control them.

Discovering a new medieval fantasy novel is always a bonus for me, especially when it’s Christian! Thus I was super excited to start reading this one, and it did not disappoint! We’re instantly thrown into the story and world, meeting both main characters, the villain, and an ally right off the bat. Add into that an escape attempt makes up most of the first portion of the story and the excitement and intrigue is there.

The characters were all very well done. The villain was certainly someone you rooted against, but not a scary or solely evil goon–he had his intelligent charm about him, and it made him more dangerous.

Both main characters had their own unique backstories, their own flaws and traits which made them stand apart from other romantic heroes and heroines. I especially liked that Sethe wasn’t your stereotypical beautiful heroine, but that, despite her scars and wounds (and being called “ugly” by prejudiced characters) she was still loved by Rigil and her character shone through as more important than looks. The romance between the two was sweet, with each embracing the other for who they were (Sethe with all her scars, and Rigil with his past). I also enjoyed how each were willing to sacrifice their desires for the other–Rigil was willing to let Sethe go and live her own life if she chose to avoid him, and Sethe was willing to accept the life of a noblewoman which she despised because she loved him.

The ally, Rigil’s squire Mezaedo, was probably my favorite character. I loved how sweet, gullible, and innocent, yet intelligent he was, and how strongly he held his faith in Rigil and God (known as Arman in the story). I also really liked Rigil’s brother, Eagan, for the bit of time he was in the story, as he seemed a wise and steady voice of reason. I would have enjoyed seeing more of him alongside the main duo.

The dialogue in the story was done well, and I never found myself removed from the story because of it. Each character had a distinct voice and turns of phrases, and I liked how the phrases matched those said by the country of which they hailed and their personalities.

The worldbuilding was excellent in the story, with each nation seeming unique, and the fantasy elements described naturally and clearly without info-dumping. For being the fourth book in the series, I was able to read it without reading the others just fine, though now, of course I want to read some of the others.

The pace was also quite good, although a couple times I caught myself skimming to see what happened next (especially to Mez, because I was fully ready to protest if they killed him off). But the climax was great, especially how it showed relying on God was the source to defeating the enemy, not their own power. I really enjoyed the end, though, since it wasn’t a typical end focusing on lovers uniting or getting married and the like, but on family and acceptance and putting the past behind oneself. Which I felt, was impactful and meaningful and wrapped up the story perfectly.

Honestly, I’ve got to give this five out of five stars because I honestly really enjoyed Heir of Light. I highly recommend this adventurous second-chance Christian medieval fantasy for readers of older YA and adult fantasy who enjoy clean romance, fantasy worlds, and wonderful messages that leave you feeling uplifted and encouraged.

Oh wow! This one really is an adventure with lots of twists and turns! When I got my copy of this book, I hadn't read the previous ones but I was very intrigued with the synopsis of this one. So I jumped on my library digital services and found that they had the previous three books in this spin off series. I borrowed them and listened and really enjoyed them. At first I felt like I might have missed something in regards to the magic system, but quickly figured it out. Come to find out there is a previous book series to this one, hence the spin off series. But the author wrote this in such that you can read this series as stand alone novels and not read the previous series and she explains it all. I've really enjoyed these books! Book #3 has been my favorite but this one definitely tied for that title now.

Rigil and Sethe were characters who have a complicated and intense history. I felt so bad for Sethe and all that she'd been through. But I loved watching their relationship through glimpses of their previous time together and then seeing them reuinted and building that relationship through healing and regaining trust.

Some fast paced moments and some calmer moments. Watch out for the bad guy! I wouldn't want him anywhere near me if I had the choice! Nope, Nope, NOPE!!!

I hope you enjoy reading this story if you pick it up. Or start at the very beginning if you get the chance!

Content: Clean. This has some Christian fiction and fantasy elements. Some elements of magic. Mild moments of peril, some mention of physical abuse and human trafficking. But it was written in a sensitive manner.

I received a copy from JustRead Tours. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Heir of light is the fourth book of the of the Blood of Kings series while I haven't read the other three books I will say that this was a marvelous read! If you are someone who enjoys historical fiction and reading about political dealings in the royal courts then this is the book for you. I will say that I have always been fascinated with the hierarchy of the middle ages so this is a book that I would most definitely recommend to anyone.

We are introduced to two men named Sethe and Rigil who both come from very different backgrounds. In a twist of fate they come together and decide to team up in order to defeat the powerful foe of theirs named Nadir. It is the adventure of the lifetime but one wrong move and it could mean serious consequences for everyone.

Oh my. Wow. I haven’t read a book in a while that kept me reading till I finished it. This book melds seamlessly with the others in the series. But if you haven't read them yet, you wouldn't be lost. I loved this tale of Sethe, and Rigil, and their attempts to thwart Nefir, who wants to use Sethe as a weapon. It's also a clean, believable romance, with nothing belaboured. I loved watching Rigil realize that God’s grace is given to the undeserving, not earned. That too, was woven into the story in an understated way. Looking forward to the next book! I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.

A swashbuckling romantic adventure!
Sethe and Rigil make an interesting pair in this sort of piratey adventure. Sethe, the emotionally hardened, powerful bloodvoicer, and Rigil, the nobleman/knight must learn to repair their previous relationship (making this a bit like second chance romance) and escape Nadir, the evil blood voicer after Sethe's unique powers. The result is a fast paced story that makes you want to keep reading to the very end. The action and stakes don't stop because as soon as you think the characters are safe, something happens that starts them running again. Not only are the characters and plot intriguing, but the setting continues to show its richness, with unique names for clothing, people, groups, and even nicknames. Although this book can be read independently of the others, there are spoilers for other books, so be aware. Speaking of, a certain member of royalty from the previous book showed up and I kind of want to read a book about her. But I digress....Overall, I liked this book because it has clean romance, a good amount of action, and nice faith content.
However, unlike the previous book, this co-author's style did not vibe with me to the point of distraction and misunderstanding. Examples: "In the lanternlight, amber irises and dark skin took on an orange flush." "The punch came from nowhere. A meaty fist to her temple, a burst of pain." or "Sconce lit, frescoes, and studded with potted orchids, the palace halls flung sound back..." It was like someone removed all the nouns and subjects and jumbled them together. Then, there was the fake cursing that was so often I felt like it was real cursing, with mentions of "moldy" and "Lightness" and "scuddy" in the place of real cuss words, every few pages, and with no need to do so. The words could've been removed, and I would not had noticed.
So, I liked this book because it was a fun, wholesome, Christian Fantasy adventure. I didn't like it because of the style and fake cursing. Yet, some may not care and enjoy the story, and if that's the case, more power to them. The story was good, and that's what ultimately matters.

Heir of Light by Jill Williamson and Niki Florica starts with a weird scene in a prison. At first, I had a hard time following what was going, then it moved forward, but it just didn’t feel right. There is plenty of movement and eventually a romance scene between the two main characters. I do enjoy that they had a past together that they had to learn to overcome and face the reality of what really happened in the past. On the other hand, readers will enjoy the scenery and all the descriptions. Williamson and Florica do a wonderful job of having the readers feel the boat and the water underneath their feet. For me, the story moved at a slower pace than most books in this series. It took a while to get started, then it took longer to move through certain scenes. I do like the surprise ending. A good twist to the plot. Overall, Heir of Light by Jill Williamson and Niki Florica does fit into the fantasy genre with a hint of romance, but overall, the story’s pace was a little slow moving for me.

This is such a fascinating story world to dive into, nostalgic yet unique, and getting to explore it more and more across space and time is a rare treat I've come to enjoy from this series. Heir of Light might be the finale in this collection, but it has such a hopeful and heartfelt finish that it's hard to call it 'the end', as we're left with a whole new beginning for the characters.

For the technical bits, this book is well written. Brimming with action and adventure, chases, escapes, espionage, heists, true love and second chances . . . all wrapped in engaging prose that wholly immersed me for hours at a time. Thematically, this book is a powerful story of freedom, grace, and second chances from pasts and mistakes that leave us broken, beaten down, and scarred, shining with a faith that is true and even real.

I loved going on this adventure with these characters, and now I've really gotta know: what does Mezaedo's spice taste like?

Pirates of the Caribbean meets Aladdin in this fast paced action packed book. This book has witty banter, second chances, epic journey, redemption, and more!

I really enjoyed this story! It takes you on an ocean journey where you meet many different characters all looking for something. Whether it be power, status, forgiveness, self worth, or money they all need something. In addition to complex characters you are also in the middle of many action packed scenes made even more intense with the use of magic. Blood voicing is the type of magic that we see throughout this book. I am new to this world and it is a little confusing what blood voicing actually is. We mainly see it as a form of communication directly into someone’s thought. You have to be born with the ability to blood voice and you can train your abilities over time. In this book we see new techniques and abilities stem from blood voicing that while a little confusing added to the intensity of this book.

The book really captivates you and draws you in. The main theme I got from this book was can you trust God (Arman) with your life after living through betrayal, mistakes, and abuse?

Our FMC, Sethe, has such a tragic backstory that left her physically and emotionally scarred. Her struggle with thinking where was God throughout my life is one I feel many who have experienced trauma can relate to. All she wants to do is be free and she will fight to the end to gain her freedom.

Then we have silver tongued Rigil. His struggle is with self worth. How can he atone for what his past mistakes and be worthy of Arman, his title, and Sethe? Yet another struggle I feel many can relate to.

This book was captivating, thought provoking, and has an epic journey and a very lovable side character.

I did receive this as an eARC but these opinions are all my own. Thank you to Niki Florica and Sunrise Publishing.

This fantasy read caught my attention from chapter one, and I was drawn into Rigil and Sethe's story. They have a shared history. Now years later they must escape from and elude Sethe's old captor and try to free her from his hold and his sinister plan that he has for her for good. However, he seems to be step ahead of them, but how? Who can they trust?
Sethe struggles to believe in the one true God because of her past, and Rigil, a nobeman's son, has baggage from his past. This is a story about second chances, forbidden love, and being free. I enjoyed how this story includes spiritual themes such as light and darkness.

an epic adventure full of peril and romance!

sir rigil barak and sethe never thought they'd see one another again—but with danger at their heels, they must work together to save the kingdom. their story is fast-paced and action-packed, though still has moments to breathe and connect with the characters. i enjoyed seeing rigil and sethe face their obstacles, do what's right, and squeeze a little romance in, too (though that had its own set of challenges).

i've never read the original blood of kings series, but blood of kings: legends was easy enough to get into (even though i've now read them out of order). it's a fun read, and i'm sure other fantasy readers could easily enjoy it.

✨ mid-book review ✨

currently sitting at pg. 81, so here are my thoughts so far:

heir of light is the fourth book in the blood of kings: legends series, and i listened to squire of truth and am in the middle of listening to lord of winter now (maybe not the best idea to be reading #2 and #4 at the same time, but… 🤷🏼‍♀️). so far, i’m not feeing like i’m missing anything important by not being caught up on the series, but the first books do help to establish aspects of the world. it’s probably a good idea to read them in order, if possible.

though it’s been a while since i physically read a fantasy book, it’s been fairly easy to get into, after getting used to seeing the names and other unique language elements. there’s been a good amount of action, and the characters are reaching a jumping-off point for their story. the characters have me intrigued, and i’m looking forward to getting more of their backstory and interactions.

all in all, i’m feeling good that heir of light will be a fun adventure ✨

How far would you go for the girl you once thought dead?

I’d heard of this series a back when Jill Williamson was in the planning stages and then completely forgot about it until recently. Even though Heir of Light is the last book in the Blood of Kings: Legends series, each one can be read independently however, it would probably be best to read the original Blood of Kings series, as well as the prequel series, first. I really should have reread them to refresh my memory because boy there there so many characters mentioned whose names I remembered but couldn’t for the life of me remember what role they played in the original story, haha.

Still it was like a blast of nostalgia, and honestly pretty cool to see Er’rets post-Darkness. However, Nikki Florica brings her own unique flair to the world and writing style. Rigil and Sethe are some fun main characters. Rigil is the classic dramatic MMC haunted by his past, and Sethe is a spitfire who will definitely go down swinging, and I couldn’t help but love her from page one. Their relationship is a complicated one, but I love how the story takes the romance one step further by allowing them to become friends once again first, and making their love much more complex than skin-deep. I appreciate a good romance that doesn’t bog down the story.

Mezaedo is a fun side character. I don’t know why but he felt like a little splash of the original series. Something about him, maybe his last name, just made me think of it every time he showed up on page. He’s a little weird and kinda mysterious and just jumps right off the page.

I feel like my only complaint is repeated conversations/thoughts in the first third of the story. We got Sethe’s and Rigil’s backstory way more times within the first few chapters alone than I cared to read. I feel like it could have been spread out a little more over the story as the two grew close once more to lend curiosity rather than dumping it all into the beginning. Other than that the pacing was fairly decent and gripping enough to keep me reading, and the writing style smooth enough to keep me engaged for a good while.

Overall, Heir of Light is a solid edition to the world of Er’rets and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I just need to read the previous books!

Will their past failures define them?

What a fun fantasy tale! It has everything you could hope for including pirates, spies, daring escapes, impossible odds, villains at every turn, secrets from both the past and present, swordplay, and hero and heroine who both have some tricks up their sleeves....

Heir Of Light caught my attention because it is part of the Blood Of Kings: Legends series that is a spinoff of the Blood Of Kings series from the ever talented Jill Williamson. This book, from author Niki Florica, features all of the drama, fantastic worldbuilding, wonderful characters, and nods to the Bible that made the original series so compelling. And, overall I was impressed with the continuity between the two series and the writing styles.

I really enjoyed Heir Of Light and found myself returning to it as quickly as I could when life was rude enough to interrupt my reading time. The storytelling was good and I was captured by the characters and the settings from start to finish. I will also freely admit that, as a 30-something, I loved getting to read a good clean fantasy adventure with lead characters close to my own age instead of the usual 17 or 18.

This 4th book in the Blood Of Kings: Legends series will keep you on the edge of your seat like it did me. Niki Florica really keeps the reader's imagination hopping. Since each book in the series is co-authored by a different person, I appreciated that the stories are loosely connected but can also be read standalone.

Anyway, it is a good fantasy read in what is proving to be a great series. I can't wait for more adventures in Er'Rets....

A swashbuckling tale of friendship, full of action and intrigue.

Rigil Barak has never forgotten the feisty bloodvoicer he left behind, when their paths cross again he is determined to d everything he can to keep her safe from evil forces set on using her unique gift for evil.

Action packed adventure, filled with high risk situations. I liked that Rigil and Sethe were given the chance to reconnect and work together to escape Nedir. Rigil has worked hard to make up for his past, while balancing his responsibilities as a leader. Sethe has spent her life either in captivity or on the run, and she knows nothing but a life of being betrayed. I really liked how this book adds to the lore and gives a glimpse at a unique bloodvoicer.

I really liked Mazaedo with his love of food and optimistic outlook, despite his past. Fantastic addition to the Blood of Kings realm, well written and pretty much nonstop action and challenges to overcome. Strong themes of faith, woven into a fast paced fantasy adventure. Highly recommend.

Heir of Light is the first book I’ve read by Jill Williamson and Niki Florica. It is the fourth book in the Blood of Kings: Legends series. While it can be read as a standalone, I recommend reading the earlier books to better understand the setting and characters.
This story is packed with action, knights, pirates, and a touch of romance. It also includes heartfelt moments of reconciliation that will warm your heart. I especially enjoyed the themes of overcoming hardship and finding freedom from captivity, which I believe symbolize being freed from sin and overcoming through Christ.
Sethe is both an interesting and relatable character. Learning about her past and then seeing her growth and transformation was powerful and moving.
Overall, this was a fun and meaningful read, and I look forward to reading more from these authors!

Heir of Light is the story of a runaway and an escapee as they fight the forces of evil and their attraction to each other, and their journey to trusting the true God. This book really drew me in, and I loved it! The writing is descriptive, and at times the characters made me laugh out loud! They did face some challenging things, but facing those challenges brought them closer together and to peace. Though I haven’t read the other books in the series, I’ve been able to follow along fairly easily. I’ve enjoyed the slow-burn, second chance romance, but most of all, I’ve loved the parallels to the Gospel. The ending made me cry! It’s been a while since a Christian fiction had that effect on me because of the clear representation of the Gospel. This is a wonderful sampling of clean, Christian fantasy, and I’ve already added the other books to my tbr list! Thank you to the author and publisher for my review copy. Heir of Light is a phenomenal story—and Niki Florica is definitely an author to watch! This novel is excellent culmination to Jill Williamson’s Blood of Kings: Legends series. (And in my opinion is a much more engaging and interesting read than the first and only other one of the series that I have read.)

The novel follows Sir Rigil Barak, kingsguard knight and reluctant heir to Zerah Rock, and his squire, Mezaedo, as they embark on what should be a routine mission that quickly turns into a rescue mission. Not only does Rigil discover a madman whose schemes threaten safety of the entire the kingdom, but he is also reunited with Sethe, a woman whose death he has grieved since childhood.

Rigil, Sethe, and Mezaedo are all fascinating, strong, and lovable characters, who wrestle with many of the same worries and weaknesses that we all do. Without diving too deeply into the events of the novel, the three all learn to deal with the scars and wounds left by their individual pasts while attempting to save the kingdom.

Anyone who reads Heir of Light will quickly be drawn in by the superb writing, strong characterization, and excellent pacing. The dialogue is witty and memorable, and the Christian message is clear and relatable. Major themes in this book include: freedom (through surrender), duty, and success versus failure.

While there are many memorable passages and meaningful quotes, the following include some of my favorites:

“Two kinds of men. Perhaps Lord Barack had been right. There were two kinds of men, Arman’s grace was reserved not for those who sought to win it but for those who knew they never could.”

“Arman’s grace cannot be bought … Perhaps Armam wishes to change your heart before He does your city.”

“[F]reedom is not escape … it is trusting Arman, trusting that He does love you.”

“Arman doesn’t need your help. … So stop fighting.”

Note: Heir of Light can be read as a standalone novel; however, I would recommend reading Williamson’s Blood of Kings trilogy and the first three Blood of Kings: Legends books first, since people and events from previous books are frequently referenced.

I really enjoyed this book!

Coming into this book, I had not read the previous trilogy before this book. While I think reading the previous trilogy would have been beneficial for the connections between characters, history of the world and the lore. That being said, I read it as a standalone and was able to put together the pieces in a clear and thoughtful way.

I have not read many books that used a Bloodvoicing magic system. I really enjoyed learning how it was able to be used in different situations and scenarios. I also liked that the bloodvoicing had different levels of sophistication and how it varied from person to person.

The cast of characters all had their own unique perspectives, flaws, catch phrases and backstories. They felt real and grounded. Sethe, an emotionally hardened bloodvoicer, and Rigil, a knight, must repair their broken friendship to overcome Nadir, who is trying to steal Sethe’s unique powers. I enjoyed that Sethe was not a normal, beautiful FMC. She has scars and a troubled past that she has had to overcome. I also loved Mezaedo, the witty side-character! He was a nice note of levity when the story was getting tense with action.

The romance element of the story was very sweet and not graphic.

I have not read many swashbuckling or pirate-related books; however, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It had all the things I love in a good book:
- Good pacing.
- Compelling action.
- Interesting magic system.
- Immersive world building.
- Character depth.
- Sweet romance.

Thank you to Sunrise Publishing, Jill Williamson, and Niki Florida for the advanced readers copy of this ebook in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

From the opening chapters, Heir of Light by Niki Florica ensnares readers with its colorful characters and sinister plot. A slowly unfurling tapestry, the world-building threads detail into the story that makes you feel as if you are there. The narrative’s atmosphere seeps into your awareness like a gentle rain quenching your thirst for imagination while simultaneously stoking the burning embers of curiosity.

A gritty plot pulls you in like a tide through suspense and wonderful banter. The literary flow is well-paced, sparking an eagerness to explore the depths of the tale. Told from a dual perspective, the story toggles between Sethe's and Rigil's points of view with such poignancy that they feel like friends by the end. Romance vibrates between Sethe and Rigil with a literary flirtation that slowly unpacks their history in a way that adds to the overall tension of the plot.

The villains in this story are worth hating. And the heroes are fully dimensional, their flaws adding a layer of relatability in this fantasy world. A subtle theme of faith swells, barely a ripple at the beginning of the story, then, with an exhilarating crash, it carries the plot through narrative twists. I was reminded of the movie, Pirates of the Caribbean, while reading this book, with its similar tone and wonderful characters. For readers who enjoy swashbuckling battles, forbidden romance, and redemptive themes, this book is a must-read.

Heir of Light
Blood of Kings: Legends #4
By Jill Williamson and Niki Florica

Heir of Light is the fourth book in the Blood of Kings: Legends series and it was such a good read. I've loved each book in the series, and they have to be read in order to fully enjoy and understand what is happening.

In this book we are brought into Sir Rigil Barak's world. He is the chosen heir of his father's estate and title. But he feels that his mistakes and failings, which are numerous by his count, make him a poor choice for the role. And his biggest failings - he cannot protect those around him. An interesting take on his life as he is a knight.

When Rigil's latest mission takes him to Land's End, he comes face-to-face with his greatest failing - Sethe, the young woman he thought captured or killed years ago. But Sethe isn't dead, and she needs Rigil's help to escape the man who is determined to use her in his bloodvoicing experiments in an attempt to overthrow those loyal to Arman, Prince Oren and King Gidon.

But to free Sethe and to protect Armonguard, Rigil will have to trust Arman completely and let go of his feelings of unworthiness, of failure. Which is a big step for anyone, but for Rigil it seems impossible.

I won't say this is my favorite book in the series. I don't think I could single out just one, but this was really good and up there at the top. It is appropriate for teens and up, in my opinion.

I was provided a complimentary copy with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

With a second chance love side plot, a fight against dark magic, and did someone say pirates?, Heir of Light is another exciting, swashbuckling adventure in the Blood of Kings: Legends series.

What I love most about this series is that many of the side characters from the original trilogy get to have their own story. While I remember Sir Rigil’s character from the original series, I loved getting to know him and his past more through this novel and seeing him in a different context than just a Kingsguard knight. Sethe is an excellent addition, and her bloodvoicing ability is so cool.

I also like that the events in this book are linked to the other Legends stories, so you can continue to follow along with certain threads that started earlier in the series. That being said, the plot still stands on its own so it’s not absolutely necessary to read the other books, though readers who are fans of the original series and have kept up with the Legends series will have more appreciation for everything that happens in this story.

Overall, this book has a good blend of action and romance and the struggle between darkness and light is handled so well. I love the themes and messages this book explores and while it is published under a Christian publisher, it is not preachy or pushy.

I’m looking forward to more Legends stories in the future!

Wow! Heir of Light started off with a bang and didn't pause for more than a breath, for the rest of the story.

Heir of Light follows Sir Rigil Barak and Sethe, two past friends who have reconnected, after years apart. The two are quickly caught back up in the intrigues of Er'Rets. The opening chapters set the tone of the story, fast-paced and action packed. There's smuggling, new blood-voicing abilities, and double crossing characters.

In a sense this seems like a pirate tale with all the wildness and excitement one would expect. Yet, Heir of Light is also the love story, or would-be love story, of Rigil and Sethe. And the love story of Arman towards His children. By the end of the book I was so invested in the outcome that twice I caught myself choking back tears. Both Sethe and Rigil face their deepest hurts and fears and come face-to-face with the only One who can heal them.

Having read all the Blood of Kings Legends stories, I have loved each one for it's own unique view point. This story of redemption is very different from the other books, but much needed. In the midst of pain and loss there truly is beauty and hope. My only complaint was that I wasn't ready for the story to end. I felt like there was so much more to the story!

I received an eARC of this book from the publisher and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Ms. Florica created a world that I easily stepped into with its sea ports, street urchins, pirates, and palaces. Rigil and Sethe are both complex characters that I wanted to see succeed in their mission to bring justice and defeat evil. Rigil has past regrets and failures that he is trying to escape by running as far away as he can from his responsibilities and the kingdom that is his home. Sethe is a young woman who has suffered greatly and has learned to survive on the streets. Together, they compliment each other and make a formidable pair.

Things to enjoy:
Medieval period
good vs. evil
swashbuckling adventure
danger
second chances
romance
faith element
redemption

This is the fourth book in the Blood of Kings series but can be read as a standalone. I haven’t read any of the other books, but I didn’t have any problems with following along. If you like fantasy, high adventure, and some romance, you’ll enjoy reading this story. It does contain telepathy, but this is the way in which the characters communicated at times, and I felt it was key to the story and was essential to the story that added a layer of danger to the plot.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher through JustRead. All opinions in this review are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

This was my first book by this author and the first book I read in the series, and i realized that was my first mistake.

I was lost in the first half of the book and felt that I was missing a huge chunk of the world-building, magic systems and characters, as they were not explained in depth. I would have benefited from reading the first books in this series to understand the world-building more. I suggest that you read the first books in this series prior to this one.

The beginning was also a slow start for me. However, after the 40% mark, everything started to click for me, and I was able to follow along.

I felt for Sethe, from being tortured and used for her telepathic mind, She finally escapes her captor with the help of Rigil.

Sir Rigil is a kingsgaurd and on a mission to capture a dangerous man intent on using others' ability to bloodvoice as a weapon. Sethe's ability to bloodvoice (aka telepathy) is essential in the plot.

The second chance romance between Sethe and Rigil was done well. They had trust issues to overcome and learn to rely on each other again. I think the romance added the perfect touch to this book.

Overall, I would recommend it, especially as I totally enjoyed the second half. It was full of action and adventure. It had me on the edge of my seat. But I definitely read the books prior to this series.

Thank you to Sunrise Publishing and Jill Williamson for the ARC. All opinions expressed are my own.

Oh. My. Word.

I’ve loved every story in this magnificent universe, but Niki Florica’s offering has left me completely undone!

You can feel the passion for the story radiating on each page. This author dove into Er’Rets and crafted a gripping tale that nestled into its rightful place in the world created by Williamson.

Rigil is a hot mess of an heir. Running from the past, he lands in trouble and takes little Mezaedo right along with him. Escaping their captor is no simple matter.

Reuniting with the woman who didn’t get away just adds another complication. Rigil left her behind once, though not on purpose. Can he do it again to save his own skin?

Sethe has only known pain and fear, except for a brief window of time. Her captor has found her once again and is determined to finally break her once and for all. But why?

And then there’s Mezaedo. What a refreshing addition to this motley crew of characters. He’s charming with no charm, mischievous and determined, and loyal as can be.

Which makes this story the heartbreaker it is. I sobbed through most of the second half of the book. What a powerful tale of regret, redemption, and faith. I’m exhausted, but ready for more!

I received an advance copy from the publisher. I’m under no obligation and my review has not been solicited. I cannot recommend this book enough!

I have enjoyed all of these Blood of Kings: Legends Series books!
Each one has so much flair and amazing imagery.
Oh, to know a pirate and experience all the adventures on the high seas. Well, maybe not like what happens to Rigil and Sethe. They really did go through a lot of scary times.
Imagine being able to communicate just by thought. I can see the good and bad of it.
This is an enchanting story about love, honor, friendship, loyalty, and justice. It's also a story about revealing the truth of the past and overcoming evil.
I truly enjoyed this book! It was the kind of book that held me and wouldn’t let me go. As I read, I found myself wanting to read more and more. From the cover to the last page, the book is packed with colorful images and engaging dialogue.
An author who can create a wonderful world that captures your mind and takes you on a journey into the unknown is an author I will read more from. These two authors are of that kind.
This book features drama, suspense, action, medieval elegance, fantasy, overwhelming hardship, the conquering of evil, and sweet romance that will knock your socks off.
I highly recommend picking up this book!
It really will keep you captivated!

I'm not going to bother describing the story line, since it's available on the listing and in other reviews. I just want to say that this is one of the most compelling books I've read in a long time. I'm new to this series, and was unfamiliar with several of the terms and past universe history, so it took me a little bit to get up to speed on what was happening. However, it was probably less than a chapter or two before the story gripped me and I didn't want to put it down. The characters were so well written that not only did I sympathize with the good guys, I hated the bad guy, and found myself trying to problem solve for the heroes. The book was gripping enough that I now intend to go back and read all the previous books in the series.

I received a free copy of this book for my honest review, and I don't usually tend to rave in the reviews I write, but I urge you to consider this book. Even if you're not into the fantasy genre, this book is well worth the read.

Heir of Light is the first book I have read written by Niki Florica, and it is a great addition to the Blood of Kings: Legends series. Though you can read it as a standalone, I would recommend reading it from the beginning. This medieval fantasy with pirate undertones is an adventure to be had.

The setting is great. I have come to love the land of Er’Ret. Getting to explore it even more was such a treat. The storyline for this story was fast-paced and fun. Once again, we take to the seas and end up back in Jaelport. All of the elements for a perfect fantasy story: pirate ships, blood voicing, enemies, dark pasts, secrets now told, and second chances.

Rigil and Sethe’s second-chance friendship to romance is a slow build.

Niki Florica did a great job intertwining faith throughout this fantasy story in an allegorical way.
