In Elvik, to belong is to survive, and to be different is to be in danger. But to be more myth than human may be Halja’s greatest power. As the daughter of a selkie, the folklore of Elvik condemns Halja as fae-touched, tainted by fae blood, and destined to face the world as an outsider. But Halja’s fortune changes when she meets Byrgir, a mysterious man unbothered by her fae-touched appearance, and Eilith, an eclectic Sourcerer who becomes her mentor.
But Halja and her mentor find themselves in the warpath of an ambitious High Priestess who blames the fae-touched for summoning the monsters that haunt the realm. With the ear of the king and the power of a mysterious new god behind her, the High Priestess stokes the fires of a not-so-holy division between humans and the fae-touched that echoes ancient wars. And she intends to make a brutal example of Halja’s mentor.
Halja must master her shapeshifting power and fight tooth and claw to save her mentor, herself, and any future she could build with Byrgir.

Wow, just wow. This story was absolutely enthralling, and the narrator was absolutely outstanding! I found myself sacking off my adult responsibilities in favour of listening to this, and that was quite alright by me. The personal journey Halja goes on in this book is beautifully written, heartbreaking and poignant. If you love action packed, gut wrenching fantasy, with gorgeous world building, high stakes religious fanaticism and longing like you wouldn’t believe, this is for you ❤️
Growing up in Elvik, young woman Halja has strong fae features which make her an outcast among her village. Not only is she an outsider within her community but she’s also a bit of a black sheep at home. She was often made to feel like she was a burden and that she was too much. When she decides to run away one day with her boyfriend she assumes it’s a no-brainer for both of them. But she soon has her heart broken when he tells her that he no longer wants to be with her. Distraught, Halja takes off on her own but soon finds herself in a fearsome situation. That is until a mysterious man named Bygir rescues her and her steed and then brings them to sorceress Eilith. Not only does Halja begin healing, but she also becomes a friend and mentee of Eilith who begins teaching her forbidden magic. Feeling more at home than she ever has, Halja seems to finally be starting her new life until one day she and Eilith come under siege by order of the high priestess. Will her new life be stripped from her or will Halja stand up and fight for what she now loves?
This was a gripping and bewitching first book in The Stormbound Series. I thought the world building and magic system were the real stars of the story. The settings were so vivid and evocative that I could picture them in my mind as I listened to them be described. For the magic system, I thought it was intricate as well as intriguing. I also really enjoyed watching FMC Halja’s character grow and change throughout the duration of the story. In addition to Halja’s character, watching the budding relationship between her and Bygir was a most interesting slow burn. Author, Angelina Kelly absolutely captured my attention quickly and held it throughout the story’s entirety. I will be sticking around to find out what happens next with this story.
As far as the narration of this book, I thought Alys Wilde was absolutely enthralling. Her delivery and tone was smooth and calm but also expressive and exciting making the story especially the suspenseful parts palpable. The story was rich and immersive as it was written, but I found that the narration further enhanced and added only positive attributes to this tapestry.
Angelina Kelly what a refreshingly beautiful dark epic romance you have gifted us I honestly don't know where to begin, your writing is exquisite I felt it deep in my soul This book isn't your average slow burn romance or fantasy tale Angelina creates a world slowly, each chapter building this epic spellbinding world full of character depth magic and friendship It has Viking / Celtic vibes with one of the most beautiful and agonisingly good slow burns /friends to lovers that is just off the charts. Meet Halja our FMC and Byrgir our MMC these two are honestly one of my favourite friend to lovers this year beautifully connected and genuinely addictive together BYRGIR doesn't play games , he's not morally grey nor is he controlling he's patient kind and protective where's the fun in that you May say ? The fun can't compete with his burning desire for Halja he calls her my little lamb for gods sake which turned my belly every time I heard the talented Alys Wilde say the phrase !!!! it was deeply refreshing to have a MMC who is strong, grounded emotionally available and ready to support the one hes falling in love with .. call me a romantic but I'm here for him all day and come on girls he is a monster hunter and absolutely huge both ways !!!! Anyway this story is breathtaking if you want a quick easy read with fast paced fantasy this isn't for you, If you want a deep meaningful unique storyline with amazing found family, friendship slow burn and a FMC Embracing her wild nature with a task to save everyone she loved from an evil force, please please add this to your cart immediately it only book 1 of this series and I cannot wait to read the book 2. Also massive credit to Alys for her narration it matched the book beautifully great tone and I could recognise all the characters unique voices fantastic narration
Though tethered to the tiny community she was raised in, she is deeply drawn to the vastness of the natural world around her.
Because her desire to belong runs deep, she’s learned to mute herself. And yet, she remains a quiet curiosity seeker, instinctively drawn toward something more, even when it would be easier not to be.
When two strangers embrace her unconditionally and help her recognize her worth, she begins to understand what she might be capable of. But just as that understanding starts to take root, she’s pulled into a conflict between a controlling, morally righteous sect and a dark, unseen entity. What follows tests her resolve, her identity, and her desire for the freedom to claim her own path.
Angelina Kelly creates a tangible world of raw, natural beauty, alive with creatures, the elements, and a vibrant, living energy, where love, loyalty, and difference are not just valued, but fiercely protected. At its core, this story asks what it really means to belong, and what it costs to be free.
Alys Wilde is the narrator of my dreams, and as a narrator myself, I don’t say that lightly. Her performance is deeply grounding, fully embodied, and rich with emotional nuance. I will absolutely be first in line for anything she narrates.
This is a series I know I’ll return to again and again.
This story drops you into a world where being fae-touched—having even the slightest bit of fae ancestry—is something people are taught to hide and feel ashamed of, and I was immediately pulled into that tension. Following a young woman as she learns that her biological father is part fae, after that truth has been hidden from her her entire life, added such an emotional layer to her journey from the very beginning. After being cast out by her adoptive father and nearly dying from exposure, her life takes a sharp turn when a young man finds her and brings her to the town healer. From there, the story really starts to open up as she’s nursed back to health and given the chance to stay on as the healer’s apprentice.
She discovers the source and begins learning how to harness that power for herself while slowly uncovering the bigger conflict brewing around her. The class divide between those trying to erase the old ways and those still holding onto them added so much tension to the story and made the stakes feel bigger with every chapter. Once the healer is imprisoned, the shift into this rescue-driven journey with her new friends gave the story even more momentum. It had that really satisfying mix of self-discovery, magic, danger, and rebellion that made it such an engaging read.
