Mr. Tall, Dark & Unavailable

Rate this book
Falling in love with him was easy. Staying in love? Well, that's proving to be a challenge . . .

When my husband invited me to an evening gala, I was elated. We hadn't spent time together in ages. Finally, I thought he heard my complaints. But when he—the great Caspian Yearwood—was chosen to lead the Charlotte chapter of the Mr. Black Organization at this event, my heart sank. Don't get me wrong . . . I was excited he'd get to showcase Black History and further the movement of 'our' stories. But two years into this marriage, I'm struggling. I didn't marry to be lonely, but Caspian is always unavailable where I am concerned. What's a woman to do to get her man's attention?

In the Baes of Juneteenth multi-author series, we invite you to journey to different cities to celebrate Juneteenth with the men of Mr. Black, an organization honoring Black love, Black culture, and Black history.

So....this was not a bad book. But I did not like the MMC! I constantly wanted to personally drag Caspian away from his calendar, his father, his networking events, his community obligations, and his shiny little “I’m a good husband because I love my wife internally” monologue machine!

THAT title did not lie. Mr. Unavailable is exactly what this man is. And not unavailable in a sexy, mysterious, emotionally guarded way. Unavailable in a “my wife is slowly starving inside this marriage while I convince myself my internal devotion counts as active love” way. And I did not like that one bit!

Caspian loves Nia. I believe that. He clearly desires her, respects her talent, thinks she’s beautiful, and sees her as his wife, his person, his home. The problem is that most of that happens inside his head. Meanwhile, outside his head, Nia is constantly asked to perform support while he runs himself into the ground being everything to everyone except available to his wife. That is PR with wedding rings.

And then there's the dad. That man was humming in Caspian’s ear like a mosquito with a LinkedIn account. Every time Nia tried to articulate that she had her own profession, her own purpose, her own identity, Louis was right there acting like her highest calling should be polishing the family name. And Caspian saw it. That is what made me so mad. He knew his father had too much influence. He knew Nia was being disrespected. He knew she was being reduced to supportive-wife furniture, and still, for too long he just went along with it and shrugged it off… He knows all of it, and yet he keeps choosing the public role over the private repair until she finally reaches the point of leaving.

And that is where I struggled with him. I was invested in the marriage, but I was not emotionally invested in him. I wanted Nia to be loved properly. I wanted the relationship to work because the history and attraction were there. But his internal “my wife is everything to me” did not move me enough when his actions kept showing her she was taken for granted and expected to always understand.

Now, Nia is not perfect either. She simmers, explodes, performs, gives him the fake public smile, and sometimes lets the sexual chemistry blur the emotional issue (because he is oh so handsome and attractive)… I got why she did most of it, because she loves him and she wants her marriage back, but girl. At some point, the kitchen sex cannot be the marriage counsellor.🤷🏻‍♀️ The man gives you one intense moment of attention, and suddenly the problem is getting ignored?

Though, I must say, the mess felt believable. Not particularly satisfying, but believable. A marriage can absolutely get eaten alive by ambition, family pressure, public image, and two people who still love each other but have stopped knowing how to reach each other properly.

But I wish the repair had hit harder. I needed more accountability from him, more active choosing, more grovel, more “I see exactly how I made you feel invisible, and I will not do that again.” The ending gives the direction, but my irritation had already clocked overtime.

It's a wrap!

I am sad, as this is the eleventh and final book in this spectacular Juneteenth collaboration. I expected this storyline to be a joy, and man, oh man, this was so good. In this last book, I thought I would have to head to N.C. to collect Caspian for a frank discussion about marriage. Nia gave her husband a chance to hold her down, and no! Let's discuss the Juneteenth part before I get too far from the main point. Caspian was the new Mr. Black N.C., and he needed to host the event to showcase his city as a Force. That part was pretty good. The marriage aspect took more time to get it together. Ultimately, both came together, like these beautiful stories about Juneteenth and our vibrant history... Thank you!

It's nice to meet another character from the Baes of Juneteenth. Nia is struggling with the fact that she comes last in her marriage. While Caspian can't seem to get a handle on work life balance, but he doesn't want to lose his wife. In this short story we learn about boundaries and putting yourself first.

I need my man obsessed with me so Caspian was already working from a deficit with me. Imagine having your perfect man (on paper) but he’s emotionally unavailable and takes you for granted. Chile, Nia was patient and thank goodness he pulled it together. That daddy...

Mr. Tall, Dark & Unavailable had me clutching my invisible pearls. Because girl… what do you do when your man is fine, successful, and completely emotionally MIA?! Caspian Yearwood got the title, the prestige, the suits that hug him just right but baby, what about his wife?!

I felt everything for sis. She wasn’t asking for much just some damn attention! Two years in and she’s fighting to be seen in her own marriage. And the worst part? She still loved that man. Deeply.
This wasn’t just about love it was about being chosen, over and over again.

If you’ve ever loved someone who was physically present but emotionally distant, whew… prepare yourself.
Caspian, baby, I was rooting for you but you had me ready to roll up on you too 😤.

2.5 stars I liked the setup for the book, but imo the mmc wasn’t adequately redeemed. He was a bad partner for 95% of the book, and then said he would do better and everything was resolved. Like??? There were also some patriarchal and heteronormative undertones.

Love it or lose it

Caspian is an overachiever. He has now locked himself into a very coveted position. However his marriage is suffering. Nia is a powerhouse in the field of art but there are those only feel she works in dirt.
Read this sexy story and see if Caspian will lose or if Nia will win. Great read

Unavailable but not because of himself alone!

Caspian a multi-billionaire CEO of his family business is married to the beautiful, talented and successful ceramist Nia however he is allowing his widower father to dictate actions that causes him to put Nia and their marriage on the back burner until he almost loses her! He had a come to Jesus moment with his controlling and disrespectful of his wife father and is now poised to support her and her endeavors just as she supports him. In this Baes of Juneteenth anthology, the Mr. Black finds he has to live up to the motto of the organization which is Bold, Loyal, Ambitious, Cool and King by standing up to his dad and getting back on track with his wife! Overall, I enjoyed Caspian and Nia's story very much and I was glad to see this powerful Black man willing to treat his Black woman like the treasure she is!!!! Tina Martin, each of you women rocked these anthologies!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed this series and each author's take on love and commitment. I also liked how Juneteenth and the Mr. Black organization was woven into each story.

I really liked the last couple featured. Their love and connection remained throughout the book despite the challenges they were facing. I'm glad Caspian finally saw the light and realized what he needed to do. I liked that Nia was not shy about voicing her concerns and frustrations with Caspian. ❤

I know a lot of people did not care for Caspian's dad, but I felt bad that Louis felt you had to choose between love or success. So sad he did not realize he could have had both.

Great side characters in this book as well, Morgan and Jamila wonderful friends and Malik an interesting brother. And let's not forget the other two Wisemen, Mr. Blacks Noah Chambers and Jared Desdune. I loved their friendship and how they knew each other so well.

Caspian and Nia

Caspian and Nia's marriage was in trouble because of Caspian's neglect. Nia reached the end of her rope with Caspian and she showed him better than she could tell him. It just goes to show that spending time together and showing your spouse that they mean something is important not just I love you or I'm sorry. I'm glad Caspian finally woke up and realized who truly made him a better man. Caspian' father living vicariously through Caspian got on my nerves and Caspian should have been put his foot down with him. I'm hoping Jamila and Morgan will get their own book because I'm looking forward to Morgan surprising Jamila. I truly enjoyed reading this story by Ms. Martin.

Mr. Tall, Dark and Unavailable

This was a pretty good book to close out the Baes of Juneteenth multi author series. I enjoyed this book even though Caspian and his daddy were on my nerves majority of the book. I could tell Caspian loved and adored his wife but he had to learn how to make her a priority. I felt Nia was very relatable and I loved that she wasn’t shy in sharing her frustrations with her husband and not making her a priority. She stood on it and didn’t allow for his simple I’m sorry to be enough and required him to back that up with actions. In the end, I believe everything worked out for them for the best and it was good to see.

What A Way To End A Series!! 🔥🔥🔥

Well now! This has been an awesome series and this last story of Caspian and Nia, was outstanding! Caspian had a lot to learn, and in the end, he understood!

There was so much history to be learned throughout these 11 stories! History that I pray we teach our young children throughout the ages!! The romance was just as enjoyable!

Please take the time to read each of these books by these amazing eleven authors!! You’ll be better and happier that you did!! Kudos, Tina! Job Well Done!! 💜

Unavailable Is The Operative Word!!

Wow! This book had me all in my feelings! Caspian & Nia made a beautiful couple! Caspian didn’t have his priorities right. He should have been there for Nia, as she was for him at all times. He always let his father sway him. If I was Nia, I would have told them both off! I don’t blame Malik for distancing himself from their father! I’m just glad that Caspian finally came to his senses and won. Is back! Great book!! I loved the Juneteenth celebration!! All of the books in the series were 🔥❤️!!

Put that woman first

Part of the Baes of Juneteenth series.

The newest Mr. Black of Charlotte was ambitious and driven. What Caspian failed to realize the same efforts he put in his businesses and philanthropic endeavors was missing from his marriage. This story showcased what happens when a marriage goes through a rough patch. Too many broken promises led Nia to feel neglected and abandoned. One of the biggest takeaways was not to allow outside influences affect your marriage.

Great read

This was an awesome read, I really enjoyed this book. I really like how Tina shows the importance of marriage in her books. It let us know that we don’t need to always go to divorce as first option. Using the characters to explain the importance of marriage is so good. The way society is now,it’s so good to read a book that doesn’t downplay how marriage should be. Keep up the great work.

Caspain and Nia

I didn’t know what to think about this story with couple being together already. Soon, the story unfolds and you can see the cracks of the marriage going down hill from the father in law influence and Caspain himself. I can say I understand when you feel like you are the only one fighting for your relationship and it a losing battle if the other party is absent from it. I was happy to see the couple got it together at the end.

Great Story

Caspian and Nia learned that sometimes loving each other isn't enough. Especially when the one you love makes you feel like you are in the relationship alone. Being taken for granted or treated as an after thought is a sure fire way to push your love one away. Why stay somewhere you're not happy or appreciated 😕 Neglect and broken promises can ruin/ end a relationship too. Don't be unavailable in your relationships, be present.

Mr. Tall Dark & Unavailable

This was a love story about Nia and Caspian Yearwood. They have been married for three years. He was honored as Mr Black for his hometown. He also was owner of several businesses and always on the go. To his wife Nia, she felt he was too busy for simple lifestyle as a pottery maker. After almost losing his wife he made adjustments to his hectic schedule to maintain their happily ever after.

From the outside looking in, Caspian and Nia Yearwood have it all; he is Mr. Black Charlotte, she is a famous artist. Can they find a balance in all they do to stay a loving couple?

The complete Baes of Juneteenth series were all beautiful stories that had you laughing, talking to yourself, and thinking at the pages, " Did I just read that? Congratulations to each of you.

A Love Worth Fighting For

Caspian and Nia loved each other deeply and had to work through issues of communication and spending quality time with each other. Their love for one another got them through that rough patch in their marriage. Kudos to Tina Martin on writing a great story of love and forgiveness.

Actions, Not Words

I loved reading this series! Caspian and Nia 's story is so realistic. One person in the marriage doesn't make time for the other. Caspian doesn't give up because Nia is the one for him, but his actions aren't in line with his words. Nia has had enough. Will they make it?

Loved it

After I read the first chapter, I thought this story was going to go a WHOLE other way but I'm thrilled that I was wrong. I loved that Nia wasn't a meek doormat that spoke up for herself, and that Caspian loved her as much as she loved him and was willing to own his part in things. Two thumbs up.

Good story. The hero needed to get his act together or risk losing his wife. I liked how things worked out in the end, and I'm curious about her two friends... I'm sure there's a story there where they might end up hooking up.
