Where there is often little room for words, there is always a great need for expression. And when coffee cannot keep you up, you might find that conversation with the right person can. Decaf features a collection of writing by Naveed Khan inspired by just that, as he attempts to put words to those things that often leave us speechless. Make Decaf your next coffee house companion.
Khan is a poet I found by accident. I think I found him in the similar section while looking for poetry. And I was attracted to the book and I honestly thought the book was going to be a warmth cuddle type of book. It kind of is. Although, I will admit that his poetry has definitely improved a lot over time. I follow him on Tumblr. That's how I know. I liked his micro poetry way more than the longer ones. But I will admit that a lot of it is kind of sappy and lovey dovey and says the same thing over and over with different wording. But that was something I knew was going to happen anyway. And I don't think that is necessarily a bad thing because that is what writing is all about. That is what Decaf is all about, releasing all the love and lust to make art. And art is what makes humanity grow in various ways. I guess this one was the wrong place to start because I know that most of Khan's poetry isn't love and sugary Star Bucks coffee. And the only reason why I didn't give this a terrible rating is because that Khan writes love's searing heat in the smallest amounts of words and few people can do that without sounding too cliche or mentioning love too much. But I guess this was also a coming age book of sorts. I will read more of his stuff.
"Sometimes, I see you fussing over bits of loose thread, but I assure you that you're not falling apart. No, you see, the artist really can't be blamed to have been unable to complete perfection. The needle deemed you fine as is. And well, I couldn't agree more."
I absolutely loved this little book of poetry. <3 Haven't read such an amazing poetry for a while. The writing style of Naveed is conventionally romanticized but I would say that's how all the love poems have been crafted around the world. I adored every word that's been written. Highly recommended to all those who loves to read Poetry.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, where is Naveed because I really want to date him...his love poetry is that good. He also has a style which he constantly adapts throughout this massive book and I enjoyed the varying formats, the first half reading like prose, the second like poetic afterthoughts of his girlfriend at moments significant for him. I highly recommend this poet's work.
