Some love heals. Some love breaks. And some love tangles so tightly you can’t tell where one heart ends and another begins.
In Tangled Hearts, loyalty collides with desire, and family ties twist against the pull of romance. Every choice carries weight, every secret leaves a scar, and no one escapes untouched. These are stories of flawed people trying to love in a world that doesn’t make it easy. Where survival and affection clash, and every bond is tested.
It’s about the strings that pull us together, the knots that keep us bound, and the unraveling that changes everything.
Sad day in my literary journey, love the authors work down the book was great but the choice to include an abuser’s music is just odd and off putting to me. This lady is extreme talented has and written some of my favorite books in the last two years. I can’t and won’t support people who support abusers, ESPECIALLY ones whose main victims are the same demographic of your characters and the audience you target. Very disappointing for what could have been a beautiful, soul stirring story.
Evelyn can do no wrong in her writing!! OMG!!! This book was soooo good!! The end had me crying like a baby!!! Wow!!!!! I thought the 8th wonder series was my fav but this definitely the one!! I loved it down bad!!!!
The fact that this has a 1 star review because of a song reference is mind blowing to me. The book is amazing.. the story hits you exactly where it needs to. I am so glad I took my time reading this one because I let it sit with me and felt everything.
Hov is my heart okay! I wanted to reach in the pages to hug him and never let go. The level of patience and unwavering love that man had for everybody, in spite of what he’d been through, is unmatched! Him and Knyc really pulled on me. I absolutely wanted to slap her several times but her journey and healing pulled at me. Christian broke my heart.. his storyline literally almost made me cry. I feel like my words could never really describe my attachment to everyone. I really miss these people and I’m putting my bid in for a part II!
Tangled Hearts was a recommendation from Amazon. I barely read the blurb but it seemed like the typical but good gem of an Urban Romance. One with some drama and some toxicity but filled with love. What's interesting is that the book was and wasn't that at the same time. It definitely delivered what the author wanted. Deets:
💞 This is a well written Urban Fiction. The characters will pull you in immediately the foundation is there...but this feel like a story of 4 separate people we watch learn how to untangle their knots. 🫰🏾I rooted for individuals but it was hard to root for couples. There's a lot of love triangles. There is a lot of sexing with the other person. This wasn't seeing a couple get locked in and then firm up through some poor choices it's a lot of back and forth. Even when it made zero sense 💞 Strong message about love and found family. The toxicity pumps out like food popcorn viewable drama 🫰🏾 Major theme is generational trauma and healing. 💞The teenage years last until 30%. That was rough for me to read but by the "adult" years I realized this isn't a regular romance it's about love and growth with them as individuals

Overall: it takes major talent to make 465 pages feel like a breeze. the dynamics of the friendship fam felt so real. You want to guide them and protect them but know they have to flounder in their own.
When I say this book took me on a rollercoaster and stressed me out along the way. Yeah, It did just that.
The characters was flawed in the best way possible. Real, raw, and sometimes frustrating, which made me want to keep reading just to see what they would do next. They carry heavy baggage, and their pain bleeds into every decision, every mistake, every tender moment. That's what makes this so compelling. Ngl, I was hooked. The drama was written in a way that felt addictive rather than overdone. At times I wanted to reach through my kindle and put a slapping to some of these people because of the decisions that was made. But that’s what make them feel so real and relatable. This story was so well balanced. It’s wasn’t just about the passion and chemistry but also about forgiveness, growth and figuring out what loves really means when things got complicated.
Listen, this was such a emotional beautiful story that literally took me on a journey. I missed out on sleep lol but it was well worth it. My heart is also broken 💔 but I’m also proud.
SN- Hov is really my man, my man, my man and if I’m being completely honest Knycole ain’t deserve him. I do 😈.
I stayed up all night to finish this book. Evelyn had me ready to fight. Tangled Hearts was a wild ride of emotions, and a tale of relationship struggles and learning to also love yourself. Hov and Knyc, This relationship was meant to be. The way i wanted to fight Knyc. Why did she have Rock when her heart had always been with Hov? Rock was dogging her from page 2. Kicked her to the side when he got locked up, had a baby on her but felt betrayed when she moved on...excuse me but the nerve. Noir played in Cash face from the beginning and Christian thought he could play a game and it didn't end well. Poor Shakeisha...got the seconds after Knyc said she didn't want the rest. All in all, everyone got their ending. Nick...I didn't think redemption would work on him, but he came back and proved that he could come back.

I hate when an author makes me side/agree with a man.🙃
This book started with them being 16/17/18 then did a 5 year time jump to them being 22/23/24. So they were still kids in my eyes🥴. While I get that I’m reading fiction I just need the authors to be somewhat real. How these kids go from selling dope out of a trap in the hood under somebody to ONLY 5 years later they owning multiple mansions, driving G wagons, Teslas, Benz and Maybachs. They are crowned king and queen in the city with NO legal businesses mentioned at all until the very end of the book. And mind you…. They are still working under somebody. Like let’s BFFR😕. Knycole was supposedly the queen pin in this drug business but that was totally forgotten. We got one mention of her cooking in the kitchen when they were 16 and that was it. If the time jump was probably 10/15 years I feel it would’ve been a bit more believable and allowed for a bit more fleshing out.
Every character in this book was trash except HOV and Cash. And with that being said I felt HOV and Cash deserved better than Kyncole and Noir. YUPPPP I SAID WHAT I SAID🤷🏾♀️. It was almost like HOV and Cash didn’t know their worth. HOV was a real nigga from start to finish in this book and I wish he would’ve gotten some therapy himself to work on those mommy/abandonment issues.
Knycole could’ve gotten all the therapy in the world I wasn’t getting back with her. Imagine you loving someone with everything in you, giving them everything you think they deserve, treating them with respect, valuing them, being an amazing man and example to y’all kid, spoiling them, being their person and allowing them to lay their burdens at your feet so you can carry them, understanding them and their needs before they even express them, Pushing them to their fullest potential and chairing them on every step of the way, being their safe place, building an empire, life and home with them. And they up and basically tell you hey I want to break up with you because I want to see what could’ve “possibly been” with my ex who is getting out of jail who also broke up with me when he went to jail and refused to talk to or see me for five years and who was also knowingly cheating on me the whole relationship🤔🤔🤔🤔. Not only does she break up with you she go and fuck that nigga immediately and you walk in on them the following morning. Baby knycole didn’t have to worry about me EVERRR again in life🙃🙃🙃. What made it worse for me is the author basically had HIM running HER down to take him back. 🙅🏽♀️🙅🏽♀️I usually support women’s rights and wrongs but HOV didn’t deserve that. While I sympathize with everything she went through and had to face as a child, my grace went out the door once the time jump hit and the author had Kyncole state multiple times that she knew what she was doing was selfish. Yet still did it.
And Noir baby girl be fr. Cash was definitely a rebound. Christian was dead ass wrong for what he did and he deserved to get left but so were you. You kept Cash on a string in the background knowing Christian didn’t like it and you knew how Cash felt about you because he made that clear from y’all were kids.
This was one of those reads where I was ok with everyone having a HEA just not with who they had it with. I was cool with them just remaining friends. The author kept trying to convince us it wasn’t a trauma bond but that’s EXACTLY what it was.

It’s so much to unpack with this book that it’s hard to even put into words.. From the love, to heartbreak, secret babies, unknown family members just everything and I highly recommend getting into it
A slow burn but real for all of us. The drama of true and fake love that is disguised in a person. I read this so fast as I was invested and the surprise at the end! It’s another Evelyn classic!!
4.5 ⭐️ This book pulled me in from the beginning. I just wanted to take my scissors and untangle all the hearts. The intimacy, the vulnerability, the character growth, goodness, Evelyn knows how to write a book. However, Knycole really made me want to pull my hair out 😭.
Thank you for providing this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review!!
3.5 ✨ Chile… don’t be like me and skip the blurb. 😭 I like to go in blind, but I should’ve paid closer attention to the title because tangled is an understatement! These characters will take you through it, but one thing I can always count on is Evelyn’s amazing writing.
This story follows a young group from the same neck of the woods as they face the highs and lows of love, grief, trauma, and survival. You’ll laugh, get frustrated, and maybe even shed a tear.
Now, I personally didn’t care for any of the characters EXCEPT Hov — but that’s the beauty of it. You can still appreciate great storytelling even when the characters get under your skin. Their decisions had me shaking my head, but by the end, you see how trauma shapes choices and how fear can keep people from accepting good things.
This book was recommended in a group on Facebook and when I say I'm so happy I decided to read it. It was my first book by this author, but certainly not my last!! Hov, Rocky, Knycole, and Nori took me through there. Had my emotions all over the place. From the beginning you just wanted Knycole to win. You saw the love between her and Hov from the first time they were together. Rocky loved Knycole but he wasn't the one for her, they both were running from who they really wanted, afraid of having the truth. I admired the fight they all had to make the necessary changes in their lives. Great read!!
First of all, I didn’t know what this story was going to be about the synopsis was vague. But I know my girl Evelyn’s previous work, I had faith. It was a bit slow for me a little, reading the beginning of the story in childhood. But it picked up, and we got to see them grow up. Spoiler, I didn’t know what to think of this threesome of love. But I LOVED Hov, the man, the myth and the legend. And I love how you tied beyond the stars to this with Solar. And that bonus chapter ? Girl I need some more. I want to see French meet Hov, and Aku. Shoot the whole fam honestly. Run it back!
The plot twists, the character development and world building are always top tier with Ms. Evelyn Latrice! These young kids make you go through it. These are the types of characters that stick with you and I loved the connection to the “8th Wonder” series. The story felt a little long at times and I kept waiting for Rock’s truth to be revealed. I appreciate the inclusion of Knycole going through therapy. I still feel sorry for Hov, but the ending was good.
Listen!! New to me author and baby I cried all 482 pages. This story about struggle, survival, friendship, pain, grief, and at the end live and family. They loved the only way they knew how with the hand they were dealt. Quameek aka Hov was a man through and through. The rawness of how trauma works and how you carry it into adulthood and that’s it’s true that hurt people hurt people. I didn’t think happily ever after would exist amongst the friend group, but when it did I was a crying mess. This book was so good and got me realizing that I need therapy.
This is a treatise on abandonment and the revolutionary power of love. Knycole, Hov, Rock and Noir were childhood friends who had unreliable parents and their shared pain bonded them for life. Their journey to adulthood and healing will make readers feel like they’ve undergone therapy because you will be changed after reading their stories. This is a beautiful book. Plain and simple. Read it to heal. Read it to learn how to love yourself then take a final breath and finish it. In the end, you will see that after the rain comes the rainbow.
Tangled Hearts is raw, it's messy, it's unfiltered, and it gave me LIFE! Evelyn Latrice has once again solidified her place as a wordsmith. This group of found family will have you mad, laughing, crying, and asking...why did you do that? I love how she managed to connect another world of hers to this one, I want more. I would love to see how Hov and his crew would interact with "The Galaxy" crew because this is black excellence and further proof that you don't have to be a product of your circumstances. Happy Reading Y'all!💋
The way this story captivates you from the very beginning. Omggggg. I can’t even put in to adequate words. This book pulls on every one of your raw emotions, complexity( because is it really wrong, if it what’s best for in the circumstances?), and self evaluation. They started out young, and grew into what was always meant for them. It was always, already written. And the surprise at the end! Yes… yes….yes. Evelyn Latrice you are a literary genius. 🚀
I loved this book, but that’s no surprise. There were so many lessons in love, whether in friendship or romantically. My favorite characters hands down were Hov and Noir. I started off loving Knycole, then I fell out of love with her, then she redeemed herself. Hov’s heart held and carried so much for his ppl, but no one I felt truly saw how much he needed that back. That bonus chapter my heart broke seeing how he viewed the love he received. This was such a good read.
This is easily one of my 2025 top picks! This author has the ability to pull you into the world of these characters in such a way that's unexplainable. I was so tough in my feelings throughout this reading and still feeling some type of way about Christian. My heart broke then she began mending it back together again linking universes! IYKYK I just love her artistry. 10 out of 10 👏🏾 👏🏾 🌟 🥰
Another BANGER!!!! Ms Evelyn Latrice you put me through it EVERY TIME. I felt every emotion. Had to remind myself a few times that they were so young. The growth of the characters was chefs kiss. The love was bouncing off the pages as usual. You could feel it. I love how you family is always so strong in your books. They love each other so deeply. Hov and Knycole were EVERYTHING. I adored every single person by the end of this story. 10 Star read
Evelyn Latrice knows how to suck you into the lives of her characters. Another great book that gives you all the feels. Young people trying to find and keep love, heal from past trauma, growing in life and in love all while staying connected and loyal to each other.
I really enjoyed this book. Evelyn has not let me down yet. If you haven't read anything by her, I highly recommend that you do.
Unfortunately I couldn’t finish the book. It was too messy and too much. When Rock came out and Knyc slept with him after sleeping with Hov, that was too much for me. Maybe it’s because they were young, but I don’t like messy stressful situations specially when I just want to escape the day to day life reality. Then you have another triangle between Noir, Christian and Cash, and enough was enough with the first triangle, the Knyc/Rock/Hov. That was too much for me!!!

I just finished this book and I need Evelyn Latrice to meet me outside real quick………..I don’t know what I was thinking this book was gonna be about but the title is EXACTLY what this book is!!! So many people tangled up together. I laughed, got mad (because one of the characters just kept pissing me off - IYKYK) and then was laying here in my bed reading & crying using my sheet to wipe my tears!!! Definitely 10/10 ⭐️s
If it’s one thing I’m prepared for while reading an Evelyn Latrice work of art…it’s tears. Lol. This book was so good. These characters experienced traumas that caused so much grief, which led to healing so they can thrive in their lives. These characters matured, right before my eyes on paper. Hov truly is one of one and he loved Knyc down bad. Then….THEN…that ending! I love a good throwback character moment. Amazing work…as usual.
Every woman needs a man like Hov. He loved Knycole with everything in him. He encouraged and build her up. Never gave up on her even when she was doing some dumb shit. Just an overall good man. Now knycole did get on my nerves a lil but what the life she had I gave her a little grace. But overall this book was good highly recommend..
When I tell you this book had me in my feelings from the 1st page. Tangled Hearts is and will one the greats. To be young and trying to navigate life, wanting love, needing love. If you don’t read anything else please do yourself a solid a read this one.
