Liam McShane fancies himself as the village stud. Not difficult in a rural Irish backwater that boasts a bigger population of sheep than humans. Life is simple, until a fanged encounter with the mythical Dearg Due leaves him trapped in the limbo of the undead, where he must drink blood or face the prospect of becoming a mindless, flesh-eating revenant. And Liam isn't the only one in Crooke guarding a secret. He meets his match in Hollywood movie star in hiding Odette Taylor. Escaping a past that's come back to haunt her, the media backlash of a sex tape that's gone viral, and an aggressive fiancé, she's come to the rural backwater hoping to find peace. Instead she encounters a horde of rabid paparazzi, all too eager to feast on the carcass of her tarnished celebrity stardom. Her unlikely saviour is a hapless, hunky vampire who's failing miserably at keeping a low profile. Liam and Odette find themselves increasingly embroiled in the train-wrecks of each other's lives, and it's all good fun, until somebody gets hurt. Then the Lost Boy of Crooke finds he has some serious growing-up to do. The vampire and the movie star, a star-crossed couple with no foreseeable future together, must battle gods, mythical monsters and the relentless media if they are to stand the smallest chance of getting out of this mess unscathed.
Although this is the second in the Celtic in The Blood series, it can be read as a standalone. 18+ for explicit sexual content.
I am Paula Black, one half of the writing duo Jess Raven and Paula Black, authors of The Becoming Novels, a paranormal romance series set in Dublin Ireland. Books one, Becoming Red, two, Becoming Bad, and three, Becoming Blood, are available now on Amazon in kindle and Paperback formats and on Smashwords is other ebook formats.
I had the best surprise earlier this week when I received this book in my email. Even though this can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading The Rousing first so you won’t miss out on part of the story of why and what happened to Liam. The authors do a good job with recapping however you can’t beat reading it firsthand. I do like the fact that this book is a male POV book. At the beginning of this book, Liam has recovered from his injuries when he rescued his twin sister, Darcy. He learns he has turned into a revenant and eventually Jack, Darcy’s boyfriend. He has always been a heartbreaker, however when he meets Odette, something changes. His protective and possessive instincts come out. Odette and Liam seem to be two lonely people who find each other. Liam has always kept his emotional distance from others and Odette has always felt like the fat girl boys made fun of on the inside. Fate keeps putting them together and eventually Liam is able to start letting down those barriers even though it’s against the rules now that he is a revenant. He just can’t seem to help himself. He has no idea of who she is and when he helps her out of situations, he winds up exposing himself and getting into trouble. He has no idea who she is at first, which makes her feel good that someone is attracted to her for herself instead of her fame. Odette wanted to come to Ireland to explore her heritage and also decided to live life on her own terms since she is found out she’s dying of cancer. It is really touching the lengths that Liam will go to save Odette’s life. Once Liam realizes his heart is involved, he will go to whatever lengths to help those he loves. I also liked how the book set up for the next one. I really want to know what happens with Mac, Liam’s best friend. I haven’t read too many books about Selkies, so I really would like to see how Mac’s story plays out.
I couldn't put it down....read it in a day. I adore these ladies!!!! So far, haven't found another writing duo that can pull you into a story so thoroughly that you feel like your actually a part of the story with the exception of Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series! This is the new series after their Becoming Series (which if you haven't read your totally missing out)! All the stories are based on Irish Mythology. This one started with a novella called The Rousing, although you can read this one without reading the novella. The main character is playboy Liam, he was attacked and is now something other that just human. He's starting to realize that he's now very different than the man he was before the attack. As the story progresses he's best friend Mal has returned home as a doctor. He was hoping to reconnect with Liam's sister but alas that's not possible. Liam has never given much thought to relationships but then he meets our heroine Odette, and boy does fate slap him hard! Odette is a very famous movie star which Liam doesn't even realize when he first meets her. Everyone else in the village knows who she is except for Liam. She's taken a break from her career and is trying to keep a low profile. Then we meet Creed.....whoa what a character!!! Don't want to give too much away, but the journey was well worth the read. Can't wait to see who's up for the next adventure....hopefully Mal!!!!!!! Great job ladies!!!! Please let me know when the next book comes out.
.......that there has to be more to this story yet to come. For one thing, we have to know what happens to Mal. Does he come back as a human? He studied for years to be a doctor, was it all for nothing? Does he get to come back to his life? Does he turn into a selkie periodically to honor his deal with the selkies? What happens to Darcy? Does she get to live as long as Jack? Or will she die a normal person's death? And how does Odette keep from being recognized by fans? Where is she and Liam living? What happens with Creed? Does he keep the girl human, so she can stay with him? These are interesting questions that deserve an interesting answer. Don't you think? I like Paula Black's style of writing, and look forward to "The Becoming" series!
A great follow on from 'The Rousing'. Loved the male perspective and a super easy read with lots of hot thrills, blood spills and kills along the way. Really enjoyed it :)
