Black Tie Billionaires #2

Pretty Rings & Broken Things - Ragyogó gyűrűk

Rate this book

I adore this couple so much, and they are by far one of my favorites from this year.

============================

Background:

Winnie got entangled with one of her father's employees, a driver, to be exact, and has been in a casual relationship sans sex since last year. When she finally slept with him, the asshole videotaped that private moment without her permission and threatened Spencer, her father, that he was going to send it to media outlets. With this problem, Spencer asked for the help of his own rival, Timothy (Archer's father), because they have wide connections to media companies. Timothy took this opportunity to gain leverage over them and proposed an arranged marriage and to have a part of the company's ownership. Both parties agreed, hence the reason for their arranged marriage.

============================

Winnie (23/24) didn't like the marriage idea at all because she's a romantic at heart and wants to be married for love. However, she was instilled with the value of upholding the company's reputation and their family name from a very young age, so she had to do everything that was required of her.

Archer (35) was a closed-off person and always put people at arm's length. His upbringing made him not trust anyone so easily. I'd even say he's grumpy and doesn't like people very much. Also, at his current age and status in life, he still finds himself wanting to impress his father, making it the most important goal in his life.

Like Winnie, he didn't want to get married; it didn't even cross his mind at all. But since he wanted to please his father, he went along with it. He went to Spencer's company to meet with him and Winnie and to tell them about the agreement. It was also here when he witnessed Winnie's father's treatment of her. Despite moving in the same circles, he really doesn't know her, but all of a sudden, he feels protective of her.

Winnie's father painted her as a meek, submissive, and yes-woman to Archer's family. But when they officially met before the day of their wedding, Winnie showed how much of a strong-willed person she is. She never backed down despite feeling intimated by Archer's presence, held her ground, and laid out her conditions for the marriage alliance. She negotiated that she'd only want to be married for a year, and she hoped they would split amicably because she's still hoping to find that person whom she's going to marry for real. He was actually impressed to see that she was so different from what had been told him, and he eventually agreed to this condition. But he also said that they would revisit the marriage arrangement after a year.

When they got married, with each passing day, they're slowly becoming friends. Archer also realizes how much Winnie is a genuine, honest, and sincere person. She's gradually tearing down his walls and getting under his skin. While he isn't the kind of guy who usually shows much concern for others, with Winnie, he always felt the need to protect her, cheer her up, and make her feel good. Let's not forget how he always calls her "his wife" and makes everyone know about it. It's so swoony to read his possessiveness. 🥰

As for Winnie, I don't know how she makes it so effortlessly easy to be kind but also a fierce person. She has a lot of opinions and ideas, and she's not hesitant to share them with Archer. She wears her heart on her sleeves, and despite what happened to her, this didn't make her jaded at all. Yes, she was wary of trusting her husband in the beginning because she grew up knowing they were enemies. But she's not completely against the idea of doing it; she's just cautious not to be taken advantage of again.

But time and time again, Archer proved that she could trust him and that he trusted her too. And it was honestly sweet how they became a real couple. These two had the most honest and mature relationship I've read so far this year. They communicate and understand one another, and not once did I read that they acted so childishly.

I have to say that I was almost afraid that they'd have a third-act breakup, given how the plot was developing over the last 20%. Thankfully, though, they made the decision to discuss the problem openly and work together to find a solution. Open communication is definitely the key.

Overall, I could say so many more good things about this book and how much I love Archer and Winnie, but I think it's still way better to experience this kind of heartwarming feeling firsthand. They're so good together, and it was quite rare to read about a couple with an age gap that gets along so well.

With all these ramblings, all I want to say is that I think this is a good story, and readers should give it a try. 😂

DNF: the storyline was dead and buried before it even started🤷🏼‍♀️💀😅

The behavior of the MMC didn't make any sense, the plot was tried but so not true, everything was so stiff and off. I caught myself wondering why I even bother? 🤡

Phewwww Kat is the queen of billionaire romance and SPICE 😮‍💨😮‍💨

I enjoyed this but I don’t think anything can top Beck + Margo’s story for me. It was definitely a fun read and Archer’s mouth is everythinggg. My only thing was I struggled a tad with feeling the romance between Winnie & Archer - but still super fun and spicy and I love an arranged marriage / billionaire trope!

While not unheard of in powerful families, Winnie Bishop’s arranged marriage to Archer Moore is under crappy circumstances. Raised to loathe one another based on their respective last name alone, Winnie and Archer quickly learn the line between love and hate is so fine it might as well be nonexistent.

Gah! That’s my assessment of these two. They really were perfect for one another. Watching Winnie thrive once out from under her father’s thumb was gratifying. Likewise, Archer seeing beyond years of bad blood to do what was right was s3xy AF. Plus, their trek toward a HEA was filled with just enough angst to keep you edged to the point of insanity.

3🌟 1.5🌶️

I don’t know if this was a me issue, or if it was the book… but I honestly just did not connect with this.

I struggled a lot of the way through this trying to feel a romantic connection between the main characters, but it just was not happening. Everything was happening so fast in the beginning and yet I felt like nothing happened at the same time. I felt like there was no relationship development or even character development, the scenes felt empty and void of any real feelings. &what was really strange to me was that a lot of the character and relationship “development” was off page, even some of the intimate scenes were off page. I’m not saying every intimate scene needs to be written out, but when you only get one whole scene in the book (that’s drawn out by 4-5 short chapters) and you’re already struggling to connect, it just seems like a waste.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the first book, and I was really excited about this one.. but sadly, and I’m sorry to say this, but this was a let down for me.

This book won’t deter me from Kat’s other books and any future books, I just think this one was not for me, and that’s okay. Not every book will be for everybody. I’m happy for the people that loved this, I just was not one of those people. 😔

Pretty Rings & Broken Things is an arranged marriage, billionaire, age gap romance in Kat Singleton’s Black Ties series and this was such a fun time!

Winnie Bishop and Archer Moore are from feuding families, basically his great grandfather got screwed over by her great grandfather in what was supposed to be a hotel partnership decades ago and their families haven’t let it go. The story kicks off with Winnie getting betrayed by someone she thought she was falling for who threatens to go to the media with photos and videos. Her dad steps in and goes to his enemy to ask a favor…the Moore family has more sway and power over the media and could stop the press from running the story. In exchange, Winnie and Archer will be married…tomorrow!

“When you’re my wife, no one will touch what’s mine.”

This just delivers on everything it promises! The arranged marriage, having to learn about one another quickly to “sell” their sudden relationship, the billionaire vibes (both are from wealthy luxury hotel empire families and price is no object), “my wife” energy from Archer, him falling first (and hard), and all the “don’t talk about my wife like that” energy! We see her friends make appearances in this one (the couples of Black Ties & White Lies and Tempt Out Fate make appearances). We also get a fun Hamptons trip with only 1 bed, mile high club, and all the steamy times Kat delivers on! The chemistry between Archer and Winnie is just easy, no angst, fun times, and him ready to spoil her at every turn. What’s not to like!

I received an ARC from the author, all thoughts in this review are my own. Pretty Rings & Broken Things is out Feb 22, 2024!

Pretty Rings & Broken Things by Kat Singleton 💍

Every time I read a book by Kat I'm like, I don't know how she's going to beat the last one. And she does every time. I love her books so much and absolutely adored Winnie and Archer! The one time Winnie had snuck behind her father's back, she ended up in scandal. So to save her family's reputation she agrees to an arranged marriage with Archer Moore, her family's business rival. The marriage was only supposed to be for show but things feel pretty convincing. Archer demanded they move in together. They go to events together, to make it look and feel real. Including lingering touches and kisses. As they get closer, the less it feels like pretend and they start to question the reasons for their long-time family rivalry.

While this is the second in the black tie billionaire series (you 100% should meet Beck from the first book), it is a standalone. I loved everything about this. The arranged marriage between them, the fact they were both billionaires, how they slowly got to know each other given they were around each other all the time. Perfection. 10/10.

Winnie is the quiet, respectful woman who has her own dreams and goals but has put them to the side to please her father. Her one thing she wanted for herself was to fall in love. She gets that taken away from her, or so she thought. Enter Archer. 🧎‍♀️ When will it be my turn to have a billionaire fall in love with me? And how do I make sure it's Archer Moore? He's that kind of broody, billionaire type you'd expect at first until you see all the little things that make him who he is.

These two are SO good for each other. I loved how Archer would stand up for Winnie every single time and how Winnie helped soften Archer's rough exterior. They both try to make the best of their situation and through that end up figuring out how perfect they are for each other. The sweetness and the spice!! Love, love, love.

2.5 am I surprised? Honestly no 😐
This was definitely better than the first book I think I just hate the way it's done( written) the trops in this book are amazing
💗arranged marriage
💗rivals family
💗Age gap
💗Billionaire who will buy you 50 million dollars house
See sounds good right? But no I hate how it's an arranged marriage but they seem like a loving husband and wife the moment they get married (even in private) I hate how they are rivals families and been enemies for decades but even the first time they met there is no ounce of hate towards each other's and they're fond of each other character and all "eye roll" .
The 2 stars are solely for Winnie and archer believe it or not I like them but I couldn't root for them togther for the reasons I mentioned . anyway I think it wasn't as bad as the first and I like her Fmc but when it comes to the mmcs she writes.. they don't seem like millionaires to me 👀 They are technically but I'm speaking about that aura that usually billionaires book have those men sit down in expensive bars then talk as they're in Starbucks 😭😭😭
My hopes for the final book on the series because it's sport romance 🙏🏻😔

Okay, This book was FLAWLESS. I just love how obsessed Archer is. This man is a black cat on the exterior, but acts like a golden retriever with Minnie. Freaking cute.

And Minnie reminds me of myself because this girl gained so much confidence, especially thanks to Archer, I admire her for that.

PS: if you're a swiftie, go read it because Archer is the biggest swiftie I've ever seen :)

whenever i read a marriage of convenience romance, i remember why i love marriage of convenience romances ˚˖𓍢ִ໋🌷͙֒✧˚.🎀༘⋆ they're just ughhh and aksjkdjs and giggles

i'm finally continuing this series after i read the first one a while ago. i'm all about rich people romances and when the two of them are rich? OH YES BABY! she is a socialite who to avoid a scandal must marry the heir of the enemy family <3 yes sir doesn't that sound amazing? they basically have hated each other for years, their families have beef BUT (!!) things are going to change quickly.

i loved winnie and archer <3 they have some iconic moments and omg does kat singleton know how to write smutty moments. her chapters are short so sometimes u get like 7 chapters of smut because the scene is continuing. it's insane but wow ⋆.˚🦋༘⋆

i'm excited to read the last book in the black tie billionaire series!! EMMMAAAAA and i heard she fake dates a football player? i'm so ready yalll

4.75🌟!

Archer Moore is the dreamiest of them all! There, I have said it.

This was such a cozy romance. I loved Winnie and Archer together. They had a connection and both of them worked together to improve each other and their relationship. I loved how supportive Archer was. In each instance he was swoony!

Loved the new equation between Camden, Beck and Archer. They were a lovely bunch of rich idiots who will do anything for their girls. Can’t wait Emma to find her HEA.

I didn’t give it full stars because it didn’t blew my mind and I just wish there was a little more angst and drama.

Overall a very enjoyable book.

-marriage of convenience, arranged marriage.

I don’t let anyone get under my skin. Not now, not ever. But the way my fingers tighten around hers, wanting to keep her close, I wonder if I give her long enough, Winnie will do exactly that.

Winifred Bishop.
The heiress to Bishop Hotels.
Taking care of the public image of the family.
She defys her father for the first time.
That mistake ends up changing her life.

Archer Moore was meant to be a man of power. It’s in the way his broad shoulders are always pushed back, like he knows he’s the most important person in the room. He carries himself confidently, which is impressive because he doesn’t even have to speak to command a room.

Archer Moore.
The heir to Moore Hotels.
He has dedicated his life to working.
An opportunity to further the company's stance arises.
He grasps it and it changes his life.

Oh Archer, why did you have to go and steal my heart?

My heart beats wildly in my chest. It must be the emotions of the morning all crashing into me at once because it has no business picking up speed like this for a man I barely know.

Winnie has always needed to portray the perfect image in the public for the good of the company. Her brother has been groomed as a successor for her father but she has never had a role in the company, besides upholding the public image.

Winnie has also always been a bit sheltered which makes her a bit naive. She begins seeing Blake, a man working for her father. Time passes by and when she finally decides to be intimate with him, he is gone by the next morning but makes himself known fairly quickly after that. Unbeknownst to Winnie, Blake had them photographed together and he is now using the material to blackmail Winnie’s father in order to receive a pretty payout for not selling press the material he has.

Archer is the heir of the Moore Hotels and he has always been groomed as his father’s successor. When Winnie’s father receives the blackmail from Blake, he knows it is time to bury the hatchet from the generations long feud (for now) and reach out to the Moore’s for help.

I’m not just anyone. I’m a hopeless romantic. One who always wanted to marry for love. To be loved intensely and fiercely. And because of that, I have to find another way to solve the problem I created that doesn’t involve marrying Archer Moore.

The solution is simple – Archer and Winnie will enter into an arranged marriage because no media would publish anything negative about Winnie if she was associated with Archer.

No matter how much Winnie hates what she needs to do to protect both her and the company’s reputation, she does not enter into the arrangement between her and Archer willingly – or enjoy it. She also isn’t shy in letting him know it behind closed doors.

I’ve spent years building walls taller than the towers here in New York so no one would be able to get under my skin. Yet, we’ve spent one night as husband and wife, and I’m already fearing the worst—no matter how much I fight it, I know I’ll let this woman in.

I really liked the progress of Winnie and Archer’s relationship, most of all because it was realistic. When they entered into their arrangement, they did not really know each other due to the history of their families.

When Winnie moves in with Archer, they slowly start spending time together whether it’s at the gym, on morning walks or during the evenings. Both Winnie and Archer realize that they actually like the other as a person. Still, all their personal relations do still occur by outside pressure when they put on a show for the public and the press.

“They’re already staring at us.”
“It’s because you look absolutely breathtaking tonight.”
“You don’t have to say that to distract me.”
“It wasn’t a distraction.”

Everyone knew Archer as a d*ck, which he pretty much was, at least to everyone else but Winnie. He does a lot of small thins for Winnie that end up catching her attention, like complementing her without any ulterior motives.

I loooove this type of MMCs! The broody mf who kind of scares other people and definitely makes them vary but who, at the same time, is a completely different person with his beloved because he only wants the best for her. It just could not get any better, especially with how skillfully Archer’s character has been written.

I hate that she gets real, raw emotions out of me. I hate that we’ve barely spent any time together and she’s making me feel things.

I feel for Winnie. Having to enter into an arranged marriage when it’s sprung on you while the other party has been aware of it for a long time. And it is not easy when the said other party is built like a God. Or acts all gentlemanly. Or when he lowers his walls just for you to let you in.

The intimacy is also a big step for her. The last man she was intimate with ended up blackmailing her which led to the whole arrangement between Winnie and Archer. They are both attracted to each other and cannot deny it, even if they want to. Ultimately, I am proud of Winnie for deciding to go for what she wants!

“We shouldn’t be doing this.”
“Why?”
“We may be married, but it’s supposed to be business between us. And this.. this doesn’t feel like business.”
“This can be business.”
“I don’t mix business with pleasure.”
“What a shame. I really wanted you to make my pleasure your business.”

This was a bit of a slow-burn with it taking quite some time for the MCs to get intimate. However, I did not really mind it because I otherwise enjoyed how their relationship progressed!

The timeline for Pretty Rings and Broken Things overlaps a bit with Tempt Our Fate. Actually, it is more of the subtle Shantel Tessier kind of overlap – you only know it’s there if you know the other book and the characters as well and it is not thrown into your face.

“I was wondering if next weekend you’d want to go on a date with me?”
“Is there an event we need to be seen at?”
“There isn’t.”
“We don’t typically do dates unless it’s for a reason.”
“There is a reason.”
“And what is that?”
“Because I want to take my wife on a date.”

I loved that most of the drama at the end of the book was concentrated on side characters instead of the main characters, even if the main characters are still heavily involved in it. Still, I loved how Winnie and Archer banded together with Winnie’s brother, how Winnie found her place in the company and how Archer found his place in Winnie’s friend group.

When I read Black Ties and White Lies way back when, I immediately knew Kat Singleton would be one of my go-to authors. I am happy to have been proven right time and again!

Despite everything, I’ve fallen in love with Archer. The one man on this planet I was supposed to guard my heart from has completely stolen it, and no part of me wants it back.

I received an ARC of Pretty Rings and Broken Things in exchange for an honest review

🌶🌶🌶

🖤 A lot of " My Wife "
🖤 Boy obsessed
🖤 Marriage of convenience
🖤 Great banter
🖤 🔥🔥🔥
🖤 Archer Moore is my new book boyfriend 🫠
🖤 He does anything for her

I was beyond excited to dive into Winnie and Archer's story ever since that teaser in Tempt ou Fate, hinting at their marriage. I remember speculating and daydreaming about how things would unfold, picturing Archer as this brooding, closed-off guy, but man, was I off base. I'm absolutely loving the personality Kat gave him. He's protective, affectionate, a great communicator, and he's head over heels for Winnie (and without spoiling anything, can I just say his taste in music caught me off guard, in the best way).

Winnie's another character I've already been fond of since Black Ties and White Lies. Winnie's life takes a turn at the beginning of the book, and she finds herself forced to marry Archer. But despite the convenience marriage, they find a natural rhythm and grow closer. I think Winnie really comes into her own alongside Archer; he cares about her feelings and thoughts, something she didn't have with her father.

Despite the insane chemistry, it takes a while for the two to finally give in. But Kat really nailed that slow burn. Every moment of tension, I was like, "just kiss already." And when they finally sparked, damn. Archer became my new book boyfriend. 🫠

When they finally let themselves go, we're rewarded with several heartwarming moments and some seriously spicy ones. And they know how to communicate!!! Seriously, the communication between them is spot-on.

Please, do yourselves a favor and read this book.

Thank you so much, Kate Singleton, for sending me this ARC.

Pretty Rings and Broken Things is Winnie and Archer’s marriage of convenience story. We met Winnie in Black Ties and White Lies, so I was excited that the author decided to give that heroine’s friends their own books!

Archer and Winnie, each from rival hotelier families, are to marry after Winnie unknowingly finds herself in a potential scandal that could tarnish her family’s reputation. Archer is your typical, grumpy billionaire who acts like he doesn’t want to marry Winnie but of course he’s going to fall first and they’ll realize that they are better together than what their families have raised them to believe.

While this book was fun to read, there were parts that felt repetitive and were more telling than showing. I personally feel like we were told more than shown how much time Winnie and Archer spent together when they were first married, living together becoming friends. It felt like we got highlights but then would be yanked to something else. The rivalry between their families and how they were supposed to hate each other was mentioned a lot, but again, you never felt those feelings of dislike between Winnie and Archer. We were to assume that they just didn’t like each other until otherwise proven. I did enjoy this better than Black Ties and White Lies, but ultimately it felt like the same story/characters, just a slightly different storyline.

Flaws aside, it didn’t need to be a perfect read to be a fun read. We all love a hero who falls first for the heroine and that was the best part of the book for me. I can’t wait for Emma’s book!

* billionaire romance
* arranged marriage
* age gap
* rival families

this book is PERFECT!! archer & winnie are adorable together. kat continues to have the best blend of banter, spice, & plot in her book and reading this one was so addicting. archer is a new fave mmc for me, i loved all the little things he does for winnie without her even knowing it. he is the definition of a top-tier book boyfriend

archer is HOT! he is such a softie and a man obsessed. he likes taylor swift (green flag) and is so protective of winnie. everytime archer said “my wife” i swooned even harder. he isn’t afraid to speak his mind and does/says things because he wants to not because he feels obligated. i love how he supports and stands up for winnie (even to herself). he showers winnie in compliments and makes it so easy for her to start trusting him. i love how much he wanted to earn winnie’s trust after she had been betrayed in the past. you can truly tell how deeply archer cares for her

winnie is feisty and funny. she definitely surprised archer since he had opinions of who he thought she was. i loved seeing winnie grow confident throughout the book in her skills and passions. when winnie loves she loves hard. you can see that with her friend group and with archer. she loved to push his buttons & see how far he would go in certain situations. she was so comfortable and herself around archer which i think says a lot about their relationship & connection

the chemistry between them is undeniable. i feel like even though their marriage was arranged they would’ve gotten to this point eventually. they fit so well together and i loved getting to see them go from practical strangers outside of preconceived opinions, to so head over heals in love with each other. their
story was so beautiful. the spice in this one was amazing. i it definitely got worked up to but those 5 straight chapters of spice HIT!! and seeing winnie be able to trust again was everything

If there's one thing I can count on, then it's Kat ALWAYS writing the swooniest men. Like, seriously. How does it keep getting better and better every single time? I'M AMAZED. Just so you know, my boy Archer was OBSESSED from the get go. Not to mention, DEVOTED. And that's a trait that I LOVE in all my men. He was all in with Winnie and I loved how he was ready to do anything for her, ready to let her in despite them being from rival families. I adored Winnie and her character growth from not being able to stand up for herself to being a badass boss bitch was something that I absolutely loved. I'm at the point where I'll gobble up anything and everything that Kat Singleton writes because she delivers every time. 10/10 would recommend and I can't wait for you guys to fall in love with Winnie and Archer!!!

*Thank you to Kat Singleton for providing me with an ARC!

One of my fave quotes:
“Thinking about what?”
“You.”
“What about me?”
The corner of his mouth twitches with the hint of a smile. “I’m just utterly in awe of you. Watching you today… I think I fell in love with you all over again.”

What do I need to do to manifest a man like this irl HELLOOOOO????😭
