Julian Kade hates everyone. But when a power outage traps him in a Paris elevator with sharp-tongued chef Freya Kapoor and charming street fighter Archer Wilde, an unexpected spark ignites between them. By the end of the twelve hours that follow, they’ve shared their darkest desires…and formed a bond none of them could have expected.
Freya Kapoor has dreams, and getting sidetracked by two billionaires wasn't part of her careful plan. But when the two men who’ve begun to dominate her body and mind present Freya with a chance to open the restaurant of her dreams, boundaries quickly blur…and her orderly world gets increasingly complicated.
Archer Wilde never thought he'd stop fighting long enough to get tangled up with two such different people. Yet the three of them fit together like nothing before, unlocking hidden desires they never knew they craved. But beneath the perfect facade are three individuals battling demons of their own. Ultimately, as passion deepens into something far more dangerous, Freya, Julian, and Archer will have to choose whether they're willing to risk everything they’ve built for a love as fierce as it is free.
Sara Cate is a USA Today best-selling author of steamy romance and sexy book boyfriends. Although she writes a wide range of tropes, Sara is best known for her age gap and taboo romances. One thing you can expect from her entire collection is heaps of steam and plenty of angst.
Living in Arizona with her husband and kids, Sara spends most of her time reading, writing, or baking.
I really enjoyed this one! Maybe even a little more than the first one as far as storyline. There were times where I didn’t really get why Julian was the way he was, like it didn’t exactly make sense why he was so guarded, he didn’t really have that much of a reason to be lol I guess it was because of his daddy issues, but even still, he literally brought it all onto himself and made himself so guarded and not friendly. But I did enjoy how he let his guard down and started to open up for Archie and Freya.
Archie was my favorite! He had his own little issues but he brought fun and openness to the group. I enjoyed Freya as well. she was cute and innocent but really let herself open up and let loose. Each of them had their own good character development that I enjoyed. They all have a great dynamic and complement eachother.
I do wish that there was more that was happening in the actual club. I know that it is its own series and not SPC, but I wish that they had ventured more into doing things together at the club since it is a legacy series.
I still really enjoyed it and I love how Sara Cate sets the mood and scene and how she describes Paris. her writing style makes any book easy to get through and keeps you interested throughout the whole book. I have a good feeling about the next book and I am super excited for it considering the tropes!
ARC reader review! Messy, emotional, & completely ADDICTIVE. This book delivers intense chemistry and a complicated relationship dynamic that keeps you hooked! The angst and emotional tension really stood out, which made it hard to put down. It had the right amount of plot and spice. This book is perfect for fans of messy relationships, high angst, and unconventional relationships.
You had me at anxious cat-dad gearing up in emotional armour just to face the world. Honestly, I was sold immediately.
Sara Cate obviously delivers the spice every single time (and yes, the chemistry in this book absolutely lives up to expectations), but what always stands out to me most in her writing is how thoughtfully she handles mental health with an honesty and depth that feels incredibly real.
The anxiety in this story isn’t a throwaway trait or a quirky character accessory tossed in for flavour. It’s fully woven into who the character is as a person. The masking, the spiralling thoughts, the shutdowns, the reactive moments when things become overwhelming, it all feels painfully authentic in a way that’s both messy and human. It’s not romanticised or smoothed over to make the character more palatable. Instead, it’s allowed to exist exactly as it does in real life: complicated, frustrating, vulnerable, and sometimes deeply uncomfortable.
One thing I particularly loved is that the story acknowledges something that isn’t talked about enough, mental health struggles don’t always come with a dramatic, tragic backstory. Sometimes anxiety or depression simply exists without a neat narrative explanation. Sara Cate doesn’t try to manufacture some heartbreaking trauma to justify it or make us pity a “poor, tortured billionaire.” Instead, she lets the experience stand on its own, which makes the character feel even more layered and believable.
And then there’s the emotional core of the book. This story had range. I was smiling like an idiot in one chapter, feeling completely soft and emotional in the next, and then fanning myself shortly after. It’s emotionally vulnerable, deeply character-driven, and packed with chemistry that leaps off the page.
And the spice, Sara Cate knows exactly what she’s doing. It’s bold, playful, and unapologetically hot while still being rooted in the emotional connection between the characters. To borrow a completely out-of-context line from our FMC "It's balanced. Bold. Beautiful. It's perfect."
A chef, a street fighter, and a sex club owner walk onto an elevator… oh wait, that’s actually what happened. One fateful ride drastically alters the lives of three unsuspecting strangers forever.
The Rule of Three is a spicy, romantic gold mine. You’ll want to devour it as the tension builds, but it’s equally worth slowing down to savor the moment, because the connection between Julian, Archer, and Freya is magnetic on the page. Returning fans will love the iconic meet-cute mixed with the Legacy sex club and Wilde family crossover. And of course, our favorite tropes are not to be overlooked: - Best friend’s older brother - Billionaire MMCs - Menage - Mental health rep - Kink exploration
The Rule of Three captures the ups and downs of a real relationship between the characters-just one that happens to involve three people. The full emotional range is present: apprehension, anxiety, jealousy, and the vulnerability of learning how to be fully seen. Cate balances that emotional depth with the kind of heat readers expect, while handling kink exploration with care and respect. Readers looking for a fast-paced, plot-driven story may find the focus here leans more toward emotional exploration and relationship development.
One of my favorite things about Cate’s writing is her ability to create messy, emotional, and deeply relatable characters. It’s hard not to see pieces of yourself in them—their fears, their hopes, their desire to be known and chosen. Her books draw readers in with the intrigue of hidden desire, but keep them there through emotional investment.
This book is a strong addition for both new and returning fans of the Salacious Legacy and earlier Salacious Players Club series. These characters may have inherited the club, but they’re carving out their own story—one that’s messy, dramatic, and undeniably romantic.
Thank you to Sara Cate, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.
Sara Cate does not write love stories, and The Rule of Three is no exception. This is the second book in the Salacious Legacy series. The book opens in the most perfect way: a Paris elevator, a power outage, and three strangers. We have Freya the FMC who has no filter, Julian a brooding billionaire, and charming street fighter Archer. They are forced to spend 12 hours of unexpected intimacy.
Freya as the FMC she sits at the center, but I found myself genuinely conflicted about her. There were moments where I rooted for her, and moments where I wanted to shake her. But I had no reservations about Julian and Archer.
Julian carries emotional armor that ends up costing him. He learns how to trust his feelings, not just for Freya, but for Archer as well. His relationship with Archer is one the best arcs that I have read. Sara Cate does not rush the development of these characters. They are perfection.
Archer on the other hand, has spent his life absorbing punishment in the ring and calling it living. He learns how to stop fighting, not the opponents in front of him, but the peace that keeps slipping through his hands.
The MMF dynamic is full of tension that builds, heat that earns its place in the story and a relationship dynamic that doesn't feel like a gimmick. Sara Cate writes a perfect balance between the three of them. Every character is broken in a way, and none of them get an easy fix, but they choose healing, even when it's scary. I love the idea that you don't have to carry your pain alone. This book definitely delivers and I cannot wait for the next one.

🔥 Stuck in an elevator confessing your deepest desires… with two people you definitely shouldn’t want? Yeah—this gets messy fast🔥
✨ ARC Review ✨
“They’ve taught me so much already in these six months… that money can’t fill the hole in your heart, and that the ones who push away the hardest usually need love the most.”
When Freya, Archer, and Julian find themselves trapped in an elevator, things take a very unexpected turn as they begin confessing their deepest desires to one another. But once they’re rescued… that’s when things really start to heat up. Now they’re left to figure out if being together is worth risking everything—or if love really can conquer all.
This book was completely addictive. In true Sara Cate fashion, it delivers on the spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️ while still giving readers a compelling and emotional love story between all three characters. The chemistry, tension, and vulnerability made this one impossible to put down.
I’m already counting down the days until release on May 5th!
Thank you to NetGalley and Sara Cate for this ARC! 💛
What to expect: *MMF relationship *BDSM lifestyle *Opposites attract
Safety: No OM/OW drama, no jealousy. Slight third act breakup. Includes one BDSM scene with one of the MMC’s, but there was no penetration.
Review: Hello Sara Cate! I was not ready for the intense steamy scenes that you provided for our main characters! Stay golden, girlfriend!! 😘💦🍆🔥🥵
This book was so hot! I was seriously worried about connecting with Julian, due to his standoffish ways. Archer and Freya were exactly what he needed to jump start his heart and head again.
Very well written! It is not required to read the first book in the series, but highly encouraged since the MMC from the first book makes appearances throughout this book.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read and review this title!
This book was sensual, emotional, and completely consuming… I loved everything about it 😍
From that first moment in the Paris elevator, the connection between Julian, Freya, and Archer just clicks in the most unexpected way. What follows is this beautifully messy, intense journey of three people discovering not just each other… but themselves.
Julian = cold, guarded, “hates everyone” energy 🖤 Archer = charming, magnetic, a little wild 🔥 Freya = driven, passionate, and trying to hold onto control 🍽️
And together? Absolute. Fire.
What I loved most is how their relationship evolves. It’s not just about chemistry (which is off the charts 👀), it’s about trust, vulnerability, and breaking down walls they’ve each built for a reason.
There’s this constant push and pull between desire and fear, between what’s safe and what feels right… and watching them navigate that was so addictive.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Bold, emotional, and beautifully intense… a story about love that doesn’t fit the rules, but feels exactly right ❤️🔥
I received an advanced copy of this book thanks to Sara Cate and NetGalley, and I’m so glad I did!
Where do I even start? Two hot billionaire men and one inspiring chef getting stuck in an elevator together—yes, it’s as intense as it sounds (seriously… someone turn on a fan).
Sara writes some of the best poly romances, and this one absolutely delivered. Following Julian, Archer, and Freya was such an exciting ride. Julian is the classic grump with sky-high expectations for himself, Archer is still trying to figure out where he belongs, and Freya is a dreamer who never stops reaching for more. Their dynamic felt layered, emotional, and incredibly engaging.
The love story between the three of them was beautiful to watch unfold. Seeing them grow individually and together made everything feel earned and satisfying. And if you’re here for high spice, bold kinks, and a whole lot of passion mixed with genuine connection—this book definitely delivers.
If you’re a fan of poly romance with heart and heat, you’ll want to pick this one up.

Julian Kade runs Legacy, an adult club with his family. He tries to keep to himself so when he gets stuck in a Paris elevator during a power outage he is quite annoyed he isn’t alone. Chef Freya Kapoor and street fighter Archer Wilde also happen to be stuck with him & he didn’t have the best first impression of them. All three are complete opposites so will they be able to control their attitudes in such a confined space? When strangers bond over a shared experience, what comes next is a connection none of them can deny. Hold on to your undergarments as this MFM romance has it all! MM, MF, MMF and MFM plus a few k*nks! Finding yourself was never this fun. This is a second generation series from characters in the players club but can be read as a complete standalone series. Emotional, touching and H0t! Told in first person and multiple POV.
This book is pure fire🔥🔥. Sara Care produces absolute perfection once again.
After ‘the good girl effect’ I was far too excited to see Julian’s story come to life. This story absolutely exceeded all expectations I had in mind. I loved that in the beginning we saw him and learned why he acts the way he does but then he very slowly comes out of his shell for Freya and Archer.
Freya and Archer balanced him out so unbelievably well and I loved the “I speak Julian now.”🤣
Watching them come together and open up to each other about all the hard stuff pulled my heart strings🥹 I will definitely be rereading this.
I am so thankfully to have been chosen as an ARC reader for this book. I received this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily🫶🏼
This book has not come out yet so I am going to try and remain spoiler free. This one had plenty of yummy spice but the romance definitely came first before this. Which I loved! This is second generation, the kids from salacious series. All three characters were so enjoyable and human. They made mistakes but owned up to them. I loved seeing characters from the original series. This one was soo good and everyone should check it out in May when it is published! You won't regret it.
4.75✨ my fav book in the legacy series so far - but a non spoiler review.
A BROKEN ELEVATOR 12 HOURS 3 PEOPLE STUCK. What could happen from there.
This was truly so much fun, I loved all 3 of them crossing every single line. The tension in this book yall, hot.
-Julian comes across like he hates everyone, except THEM. He’s one of the co owners of legacy & has built those walls up high. - Archer (my fav) A fighter who is all in, charming. Typically so live in the moment until they make him want to much more (AND A WILDE LEGACY how cool’s that) - Freya a passionate chef who knows what she wants!!!
Love often comes with complications no matter what, but add in the mix that this is a story where three people all fall in love with each other and the complications just multiply. While there is plenty of spice throughout this book, there is also a story as old as time of people feeling they were not worthy of love and having to be convinced otherwise. One of the things that these characters have to try to figure out how to overcome is would they be ok if their families, their jobs, and society as a whole could not accept that they wanted to be together. This author does a great job getting you invested in each of the characters.
I just don’t get why books need to be this long. I understand that sometimes you need length to tell a story, but this was not that story and almost 500 page is just too much.
I generally really like this others books they have a lot of spice. They usually have a good pot in good characters and this one in theory is no different. But it was too many pages of listening to everybody’s anxiety, spiraling, and self-doubt, it just sent me into an anxiety spiral. I don’t shy away from long books normally but I think this one was about 200 pages too long.
Sara Cate’s spice is unmatched. Just when you think she can’t outdo herself, she does. I love the way her series of characters flow. It’s nice to check in on old characters while getting the story of the other side characters. I really enjoyed this story line. Besides the spice, there is a true story of anxiety, stress, feelings of not belonging, real life situations, that make these characters relatable. Those true life aspects really keep you engaged and you’re eager to see what happens next. Sara Cate can do no wrong. I highly recommend.
Three people walk into an elevator. Hours later, three very different people walk out.
If there was ever any doubt that Sara Cate can write an emotional, hot, and heartbreaking poly romance, The Rule of Three is here to clear things up.
There was something about the ache of longing, the burn of vulnerability, and the clawing of hope that will stay with me long after I’ve forgotten the details of The Rule of Three.
The Rule of Three by Sara Cate is the second book in the Salacious Legacy Trilogy. The books are published by Sourcebooks Casablanca. I read and loved the ptevious story, The Good Girl Effect and couldn't wait for this second book to release. A dark mmf, spicy story that checks all the boxes. Julian, Freya and Archer, an stuck elevator, hours to spend. Imagination can run wild. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book, 5 stars.
