He's haunted by demons from his past. I'm shackled by memories I can’t escape.
The night my husband was gunned down at billionaire Tobias De Vil’s exclusive playground for the elite, I wasn't just a victim—I was the intended target.
Now his powerful father wants the scandal buried. The solution? A marriage of convenience that safeguards their dynasty while shielding me and my daughter from my late husband's ruthless family.
It's strategy, not love. After years of control and degradation, I don't believe in good men or happy endings. But Tobias’s magnetic personality and disarming warmth draws me in, offering the safety and security I crave.
As we settle into our marriage, though, cracks appear in his picture-perfect life. Beneath the charm lies a man who deflects with humor but flinches from touch, guarding scars that run bone deep. It’s a survival tactic I know too well. We’re both hiding, both performing. Two broken people bound by circumstance who don’t know how to trust, let alone heal.
Until somewhere between late-night conversations and lingering glances, we stop holding our breath. We begin to feel, to hope.
And maybe, against all the odds, to believe in something real.
★★★★★ If you love these tropes, then The Devil's Lair is for you! Marriage of Convenience Billionaire Virgin hero Morally Gray hero Burn the world for her Powerful family Tortured hero ★★★★★
While The Devil's Lair follows a different couple from the previous books, there is an overarching series plot, and as such, the series is best read in order.
Tracie Delaney writes billionaire romance where the men fall hard and the women make them work for it. Even though she has more than 35 novels published across many different series, Tracie still considers herself a reader first and foremost and loves fangirling over her favorite authors.
At night she likes to curl up on the sofa with her two furbabies, Murphy & Cooper, and binge-watch shows on Netflix. There may be wine involved.
"I never thought I’d be able to let another man touch me, then along you came and changed my life."
I absolutely love this series, and The Devil’s Lair was a great addition to it.
He’s haunted by demons from his past. She’s shackled by memories she can’t escape.
The story follows Rebecca, whose life is shattered the night her husband is gunned down at billionaire Tobias De Vil’s exclusive playground for the elite. Rebecca isn’t just a victim...she was the intended target. Now Tobias' father wants the scandal buried. To bury the scandal and protect the dynasty, the only solution is a marriage of convenience, which also shields Rebecca and her daughter, Isla, from her late husband’s awful family.
What begins as a practical arrangement develops into a fake marriage that slowly grows into something much deeper. Rebecca has had years taken from her with the abuse and complete control of her husband, so she doesn’t believe in good men or happy endings anymore...but Tobias’s warmth, humour, and protectiveness start to break down her walls. As weeks go by and they settle into their arrangement, cracks appear in Tobias’s life, the man who always hides his pain behind jokes and flinches from touch, guarding scars that run deep. We get to learn about Tobias's past, and everything he went through, the reasons behind his guarded nature, and pieces of his past come to light, but he hides them from his family.
I loved the tension and getting to see Tobias and Rebecca's romance blossom. There's so much emotion, trust-building, and healing in this book; it was well done! I also loved Isla; she added a really touching softness to the story, and the dynamic between all three of them brings a lot of heart to the book.
There is also ongoing family drama woven throughout the story... though a lot of it in the background... which was okay, and it definitely added tension. I did enjoy the story overall, but I wish some things had been resolved differently. Tobias’ backstory and its full resolution felt somewhat lacklustre, much of it was kept in the background and then barely concluded in only a few brief sentences... it felt very rushed? And also, the situation involving Rebecca’s SAers... It just felt like a very underwhelming conclusion.
Besides its shortcomings, it was a solid read and a great addition to the series. The book was emotional, engaging, and well written, with strong character development and a very satisfying, heartwarming romance.
I can't wait for the next book!! THAT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH!! omg I can't wait for Saskia's book!

Omgg that ending, one thing is always guaranteed with a De Vil’s books they’re going to end on a crazy cliffhanger, and I’m still reeling over it 😭😮💨
This book was incredible, another De Vil sibling favourite of mine!! I’ve absolutely loved Tobias from when he was first introduced, he was the jokester of the sibling dynamic and never took anything too seriously. I wasn’t surprised that as we got to know him and by the time it came to his book, that was all just a pretence and that underneath lay something more dark and tragic.
This dealt with many heavy and dark themes, and Tracie done phenomenally well portraying Rebecca’s abuse, and her trauma from everything that she’d been through.
I thought Tobias and Rebecca were great, they had such a profound impact on each other and a great level of understanding and respect for each other, which only added to their building chemistry. Ilsa was absolutely the star of the show, she was so adorable and had really come a long way from being nonverbal, to beginning to heal from the trauma of her parents toxic relationship.
The overarching plot that has been brewing from the first book, finally came ahead, and it was jaw dropping, like I had my suspicions that something was amiss, and I was still taken aback, so, so good!! I’m sure it will continue to spill over into Saskia’s book, which is the last in the De Vil’s series; that’s so crazy to say, I still remember reading Alexander and Imogen’s book, and reeling from ow incredible that was.
I'm so excited for Saskia’s book next, and with someone whom Alexander dislikes by the looks of it haha!!
Thank you kindly to Tracie and her team for the review copy of The Devil's Lair, it's always such an honour being part of your ARC team.
The Devil’s Lair is the fourth book in the DeVil Dynasty series. Tobias DeVil has always been the funny one in his family. He is also the kindest, everyone adores him. He owns the sex club The Lair and is always there for his family when they need him. They don’t see that he struggles with people touching him. He puts on a mask even for his family. Only at The Lair is he able to be himself. When he tries to stop a woman from getting hurt in his club, someone is shot. He feels something for her but doesn’t know what and wants to help her. He looks into her and finds out she was in an abusive marriage and now a single mother. She’s trying her best, including fighting for custody of her child. He just needs to help her, but the shooting at his club becomes a scandal and his father decides an arranged marriage would take the spotlight off the tragedy and shine it onto something better. Obviously, Tobias has never wanted to be married. Considering that he has to touch his wife but seeing how scared Rebecca is he thinks it’ll be a win-win situation for them.
Rebecca is processing everything that just happened at the club when Tobias appears offering to help her. She can stay with him and she’ll be safe. He tells her they should get married. His last name will protect her and her daughter and she won’t need to worry about him trying to force her into uncomfortable situation. She doesn’t trust any man. She’s even having trouble trusting to Tobias, but everything he does is with kindness. He never expects anything. He tells her he just wants to help her. It’ll be a very long time before she thinks about touching another man. So when he tells her that she never needs to worry about being with him because he has an aversion towards touch, she reconsiders. It might be a good idea for her daughter to be in this arranged marriage. They can keep it platonic and just be friends. However, the longer they get to know each other, the more they spend time together. They form a bond that turns into feelings. Neither one knows how to express it because they agreed they would only be friends. Who will be the first to give into their feelings and how will the other react?
Tracy Delaney had me reaching for the tissues with this one. I felt so bad for her situation. All she wanted was her daughter. The only reason she accepted help was for her. It was heartbreaking that she felt like she needs to look over her shoulder. I love how Tobias would treat her and how sweet he was to her daughter. I also felt bad for Tobias keeping so many things from his family never knowing how to tell them. I’m so happy him and Rebecca connected and we’re vulnerable with each other. I love how he made her more brave and she made him be more himself. Their scenes were so beautiful. The little girl stole my heart. I always love seeing the entire family together. I love seeing the friendship between the girls and the bond between the brothers. This was an extremely emotional roller coaster. It was filled with danger, drama, secrets, heartbreak, tender moments, humor, and devastating twists. I cannot wait to read the last book. I’ve really enjoyed this series.
The Devil’s Lair completely wrecked me emotionally while somehow putting my heart back together at the same time. Book four in the De Vil Dynasty series gave me everything I love in a dark romance: trauma, healing, found family, emotional intimacy, suspense, and characters that felt so real. Tobias and Rebecca’s story was heartbreaking, beautiful, healing, and unforgettable. Rebecca and her sweet 4 year old daughter Isla went through horrific abuse at the hands of her husband Marcus before Tobias saved her, literally taking a bullet for her. From that moment on, he took it upon himself to protect them, help Rebecca find herself again, and keep both her and Isla safe from her horrible in laws. Watching Rebecca slowly rebuild herself in a safe environment honestly made me emotional. What I loved most was that nothing between them felt rushed. Their relationship was built on trust, friendship, comfort, healing, and emotional connection long before anything physical happened, which made every moment between them hit even harder. Tobias was honestly my favorite kind of MMC because even though he’s powerful, protective, and absolutely ruthless when it comes to keeping his loved ones safe, he’s also the charmer and funniest one in the family. He was always joking around, teasing, and making everyone laugh, but you could tell he used humor as a defense mechanism to hide everything he carried inside. Finding out about his childhood trauma completely broke my heart 😢 especially seeing how Rebecca became his safe place the same way he became hers. And Isla absolutely stole the entire book for me. Watching her slowly trust again and seeing Tobias step into that father role so naturally melted me. The family dynamics, the De Vil siblings and their wives, the twists, the secrets, the diary 📔 revelations, the betrayals, the poisoned chocolates!! EVERYTHING had me stressed and obsessed at the same time. Underneath all the darkness was really a story about survival, healing, trust, and learning that love can still feel safe after trauma. I am so attached to this family already and desperate for the final book!!! Saskiaa ❤️❤️
Tobias and Rebecca Marriage of convenience Single mom Billionnaire Trauma recovery (both) Slowburn Dark
Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️+ Spice: 🔥🔥🔥
I need to gather myself after this book. The depth and growth by both characters were written so beautifully. Throw in a 4year old who also is recovering, my heart couldnt take it at times. Thank goodness for the random unexpected cute banter 🥰
Rebecca and Tobias’s lives are thrown together one fateful night. The night she plans to murder her abusive husband while at a sex club. Tobias is the owner of the club, a place he found salvage from a ghost he cannot find. Although the husband doesn’t die by the hands of Rebecca he dies all the same, but not before he makes an attempt at Rebecca. One that is stopped by Tobias taking the bullet for her.
Tobias provides Rebecca a safe space, for her and her daughter Isle (who stopped speaking 1 year ago after she came in in her dad beating her mom). Again, the recovery these two have to climb is high. But day by day, they trust more and more the safety Tobias has given them.
Marriage of convenience comes when Tobias needs to clean his image (for the sake of the family) and to provide Rebecca even more safefy as her former knlaws attempt to take Isle away from her.
Tobias believes he is broken beyond repair but doesnt know why. He feels repulsed at the thought of someone touching him. But slowly he starts feeling more and more with Rebecca. The connection these two share is intense and the way they communicate needs to be studied.
Once again Delaney writes with such conviction. The back story. The growth. The love. And always a female that kicks ass. looking forward to the final chapter of this family.
PS - didnt expect the side story closing the family’s unsolved hurt for so many years

Wow just Wow. This is amazing, I think it's now my favourite of the series. Tobias, well all men should be made in his image from here on. The younger of the De Vil men, he is the family clown, Hiding behind the smile is a broken man who cannot stand to be touched, he doesn't know why but he has his club, The Lair, to escape to and watch but never engaging. Rebecca has been trapped in an abusive marriage, terrified to stay but unable to leave for fear of will happen to her daughter, Isla. When her world collides with Tobias all bets are off. These two together will conquer the terrors that haunt them. Tobias is a force to be reckoned with, Rebecca is stronger than she realises and together they will protect Isla and teach her to be a warrior. This will grip you from the first to the last page. There will be anger flooding your veins, along with tears shed for broken pasts, you will not put this down until the last page. There are so many threads that are finally answered and an ending that you won't see coming. This can be read as a standalone but honestly you are going to want to read the previous books in the series as well. The books have threads running through them that will be answered in this book making Devils Lair so much more exciting.
I love that with Tracie Delaney, you think you’re going in for something and then the characters just surprise you! I think this series really had a book for everyone, and Tobia’s story is definitely a lot more cozy and romantic than the previous ones. Don’t worry, Victoria and Nicholas are still my favourite, but Tobias and Wren have something really sweet going on. “The Devil’s Lair” is for those of you who want all the feelings and are ok with a little spice. I didn’t even know I was going to enjoy a book with such little spice, but Tobias, Isla, and Wren just sucked me right into their world! Tobia is a tortured hero, he’s the funny one, he’s the one that wants to shine a light into a world he knows it’s too dark. When he ends up changing Rebecca’s life forever, he doesn’t even realise he’s also changing his. Tobias is a virgin, he cannot be touched without feeling repulse, but with Wren he realises that aversion could be something deeper. He starts to have feelings for the widow, and while he believes he’s not worth of those feelings, because he cannot give her pleasure; he doesn’t realise that Wren also wants something Tobias can give her.
Rebecca has sworn men off after her husband had been abusive to her and her daughter, Isla. She no longer wishes to fall in love, all she wants is to have peace and raise her daughter. She’s not ready for intimacy, but slowly she falls in love with Tobia’s good nature. He’s kind to her and Isla, he’ll give her the world. Just like Tobias needs someone to love him for more than pleasure, Rebecca needs someone to giver her kindness, something she had very little.
“The Devil’s Lair” has a lot of action, and answers a lot of questions from previous books in the series, but ultimately it is a romantic romance book, where you can’t help but fall in love with all the characters. I can’t wait for Saskia’s book and for her to cause havoc!
Congratulations to Tobias for dethroning Nicholas as my favorite De Vil brother. 👏👏👏👏👏
You need to read the last chapter of the previous book before this one to fully appreciate the story. I would recommend reading them all first though because there is an overarching storyline that will get lost without them. The family has arranged marriages but their father tries hard to match them with someone they can love because he truly loved his wife and wants that for his kids. He is a great father and has chosen well for the previous marriages.
Tobias cannot stand to be touched. He has been like that as long as he can remember. He quietly opened a sex club called The Lair. He watches but never interacts. He is the funny one. He has been a good friend to his sister-in-laws and a good brother.
I love Rebecca and I don’t think there is anything I can say about her without giving away spoilers.
Rebecca and Tobias meet in an unusual way and their story is beautifully written. I had a lot of emotional moments in this book and so many times I was smiling.
Virgin MMC Broken FMC Found family Arranged marriage
Rebecca has had a horrible & abusive marriage and life with Marcus. He abused her physically and mentally. The best thing to come out of the marriage is her little girl, Isla, who is a mute due to Marcus being abusive to them both. Marcus takes Rebecca to The Lair. A members club which is owned by Tobias De Vil. Marcus is killed and Tobias is shot. With the loss of Marcus, Rebecca’s in-laws feel she’s unfit to be Isla’s mother and a custody battles begins. After Tobias recovers from his injuries, he decides to help Rebecca & Isla and brings them to his home Oakleigh estate. To help the DeVils, his dad mentions about marrying Rebecca to help with the news about what happened at The Lair and to bring positivity back. Tobias agrees. Their love for each other blossoms throughout. They both have history regarding abuse but they help each other out. Heart breaking. Loved the characters and Tobias is sooooo sweet.
Looking forward now to hearing about Saskia and her story.
I devoured this book over the last two days. It's often the case that the clowns suffer inside, and Tobias is no exception. Who would have thought? The book tells the story of two traumatized people who slowly find each other and process everything in the process... A wonderful slow-burn storyline. As for the overarching plot, at some point during the book, I suspected the right person, and I was right. This book isn't so much driven by action, but all the more by emotions, doubts, deep-rooted fears, and their consequences. And it's all presented in a very empathetic way. Every time you think this is the best of the De Vil brothers, another absolutely lovable brother comes along. They all have their flaws, but Tobias is incredibly kind. I had a hard time choosing between the boys. In any case, this book is highly recommended, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. On to the last book and Saskia's story. HEA, no cheating or sharing ⭐️ 4/5 🌶 2.5/5
The Devil's Lair is book 4 in the De Vil Dynasty series. I really recommend reading the others in the series, not only because it will give you better understanding of the family but also they are that good you dont want to miss out. I also recommend reading the last chapter of book 3 as this book kicks off straight from that chapter. This book is the story of Tobias and Rebecca. They both have had trauma and abuse which was heartbreaking to read but watching them together as they help each other feel safe, and loved was the best feeling.
I loved all the other books in this series and just when you think it can't get any better along comes another great story. I couldn't put this down and read it in a day. Theres not too much I can say without giving anything away so just go and read it. But check the triggers first because this book is a strong read. I am looking forward to Saskia's story next after reading that last chapter.
Everyone one of this series I have called my favourite with each one released and the Devil's Lair is without a doubt my favourite of the full series, although there is one more to go I don't think Ms Delaney can top this book.
Luckily enough to have an arc and have followed the authors journey writing this book, I can say she has 100% bleed for this book.
Tobais and Rebecca the healing, the love story, the tragedy, that sweet little girl Isla, the everything is incredible and not a dry eye by the end. Loved every minute of it.
Please read the trigger warnings before starting as there are some heavy hitting themes in this book which in my opinion the author has handled extremely well with genuine thought, understanding and respect, the outcome is fantastic and worth the heartbreak to get to the HEA.
The Devil's Lair by Tracie Delaney is a well-written, heart wrenching, beautiful story of strength and perseverance with some hilarious quips and banter thrown in. Tracie does such a great job handling a difficult subject, while staying true to the series and the characters. Rebecca is an example of a character that you want to crawl into the book and guide in a different direction. But as the story unfolds you see her grow and begin to really understand her why. Tobias. Well. From earlier books as we've gotten to know his character, we see him as funny and "Devil" may care (see what I did there!). However, his book brings out the depth and intensity in him I was truly not expecting. I highly recommend this book as it might be the best in the series so far!
Just when you think this series can't get any better, the author gives you a story that takes it up a notch. You should read the last chapter of the previous book first as this jumps in right as that finishes and wow, wow, wow. I was up all night reading Tobias and Rebecca's story and I can't put into words how good it is. The abuse, trauma and heartbreak these two have gone through just tears at your soul and watching Isla discover safety for the first time in her life is heartwarming. The patience and understanding Tobias and Rebecca show each other is beautiful and I don't want to say too much about the plot as I will give away spoilers. There are tropes you need to check before reading but allow plenty of time to read it or you will find yourself up all night, as I did. To create a book showing patience, understanding, growth and love against the background of such a painful story shows how talented this author is. I am looking forward to reading Saskia's story which looks like it will also send us on an emotional rollercoaster.
Before starting this book I highly recommend reading the last chapter in the previous book Devils Deceit. It's not necessary, but will help with this story of Tobias and Rebecca.
The book deals with a tough story of abuse and trauma, for both the characters, and how they navigate this story of survival. How does one go from a neglected childhood, abusive and violent relationship to feeling safe, cherished and loved?
Tracie has written this with sensitivity while at the same time putting you in the midst of their struggle to understanding how time, patience, trust and the right support can get you to the other side and a future to look forward to
I love Tracie's story's and this was no exception. This was about the younger De Vil brother Tobias and his story was a heart breaking one because of the trauma that he experienced when he was younger but had blocked it out. When he meets Rebecca he starts to have feeling for this woman who has a trauma past herself. This was a slow burn story but we get to find out what had happened to the twins and Tobias mother in this instalment. I loved this book as it was beautifully written by a author i love. It had my emotions all over the place reading this. Now can't wait to read Saskia's book as i know this one is going to be amazing!
The Devil's Lair is book 4 in the fantastic De Vil Dynasty series. Just when I think they can’t get any better, another comes along to show just how wrong I am. Tobias is absolutely heartbreaking. Tobias and Rebecca both come with trauma in this beautifully written, dramatic, intense journey all about healing and overcoming. It's a great, slow burn read, that like it's predecessors, pulls you in very quickly and keeps there until the end. Absolute must read story! Can't wait for the next journey!
I didn’t know what to expect from this book, but I didn’t expect the heart wrenching and emotional read I got!
This story blew me away. I felt the subject matter was dealt with so sensitively and the emotions the book gave me stayed long after I finished reading.
Tobias was a beautiful soul, he hid himself behind his joking persona. I’m so glad Rebecca came into his life and they connected as they did. Both of them deserved the joy and happiness they gained from each other.
I’m also really excited now for the next book in the series.
This was by far my favourite of the series (and I don't say that lightly because I've loved every last one of these books) but there's just something about Tobias and Rebecca that sent them over the edge of becoming my favourite. Their story may have started off in tragedy, and their relationship in friendship, but watching these two grow, heal, and fall in love was so beautiful. Isla stole the show every chance she got, and getting to see all of the previous couples is always a highlight for me.
I love this author’s books and this series, but this one is so heart-tugging and might be my favorite. Rebecca is at the police station for the murder of her husband—she couldn’t take any more of his cruelty and wanted to protect herself and her daughter. Tobias ends up in the hospital with a gunshot wound after trying to protect Rebecca; it all happened at his club. He gets Rebecca out of prison, reunites her with her daughter, and now she’s under his and his family’s protection. I won’t say more, but it’s an amazing and emotional read.
Prepare yourself for emotional damage; keep some tissues and emotional support nearby. I didn't expect Tobias and Rebecca's story to be this moving. I cried more than I liked to admit. I never thought I would have a favourite De Vil, but this title goes to Tobias! I love their story, adore the characters, and appreciate how the whole story was handled. It's difficult to write a more detailed review without spoilers, so trust me. I definitely highly recommend this book!
I love this series and this book is no exception. Tobias offers Rebecca and her daughter Isla a place to stay after the horrific events that occurred at his club, The Lair. As the story progresses, we find out more about the reason Tobias is as he is, something he has hidden always from his family but because of and with Rebecca’s help their fake marriage becomes more. On top of all of this, there is even more drama for this family that they did not expect. Absolutely brilliant.
I am in love with this book!!! This is a slow burn and so worth the wait. The suspense building up makes this story so good. I love how things formed between Rebecca and Tobias. They both have been a big part in each other's lives and helped each other heal. I love how 2 strangers become each other's refuge and hope, they become friends and then one day they fall in love. This is an emotional one, so have tissues ready.
This is the fourth book in the De Vil Dynasty series. I Loved it! I was entertained from the first to last page and couldn’t put it down! Tobias and Rebecca are fantastic characters with so much chemistry. The plot was fast paced, filled with action, drama, danger, suspense, abuse, trauma and spice. A wonderful series addition. I received an early copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
Just when I thought this series couldn’t get better, this read exceeded all my expectations from page one. Definitely hard reading in places, but worth every page turned. I finally got the revelation I was expecting about a certain character from the first I read about them, and loved the De Vil brand of justice. If you only ever read one book from this series, it definitely has to be this one.
I received a review reader’s copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
Thank you for the arc! All the healing in this book and just how gentle Tobias was…just made me love him more! Couldn’t put this book down. The communication and openness between both Tobias and Rebecca was just chef kisses. This is the type of relationship you want.
Cannot wait for the next one especially after that little snippet.
The fourth installment following the De Vil siblings was the heart jerker of the year. Tobias, always the joker, and Rebecca, the abused wife, had the perfect marriage of “convenience.” The author did a great job building up to and describing both characters’ trauma. Throw in a selectively mute four year old? We’re all goners.
Tracie did it again! The emotions! The spice! The plot! She is doing an amazing job of keeping this story line in play! Tobias is the kindest MMC that gives off touch her and d*e vibes! Rebecca and Isla bring so much joy and warmth!
I loved this story, and couldn't put it down. I finished it less than 12 hours after release. This might be my favourite of the series so far but I'm so excited for the next one too. I adored Tobias in the other books and his story only confirmed why.
This book is how you end the stories ladies and gentlemen! The storytelling, the plot, the characters - I was in awe and finished the book in one sitting.
I really don`t know how Tracie is planning to do Saskia book - but looking forward to it :)
