The Heartfulness Way, Vol 2: Contemplating Life's Great Questions on the Nature of Reality | Daaji & Elizabeth Denley on the Purpose of Life, Happiness, and Balance

Rate this book
In 2018, The Heartfulness Way, Volume 1, was published—a series of conversations between Daaji and his associate Joshua Pollock. In Volume 2, Daaji focuses on the spiritual journey from its starting point to the ultimate realization of the purpose of human life and potential.
The topic of “Reality” is central to spirituality and Realization is the fruit of awareness. God-realization is usually spoken about with awe and mystery, as something unattainable, or at the very least taking many lifetimes. It has been the classic quest of spiritual seekers from all cultures and eras—those who have searched for God and tried to identify and overcome the obstacles on the way. In this book, Daaji describes the experience and maps out the journey that provides us with the tools and sheds light on the obstacles and their solutions. The second half of the book shines a light on the qualities needed on the journey of unveiling reality. Daaji touches upon the contemplative practices of Heartfulness, clarifies some practical aspects, and offers valuable suggestions. The path he offers is simple.
The Heartfulness Way, Vol 2 is an outcome of many such conversations that took place at the Heartfulness International Headquarters at Kanha Shanti Vanam from 2019 to the present. As the world went into lockdown, the forced isolation and the pain humanity suffered led to a flood of queries to Daaji asking for answers to deeper questions of meaning and purpose.

Born in Gujarat, India, Kamlesh D. Patel showed an early interest in meditation and spiritual growth. In 1976, as a pharmacy student in Ahmedabad, he met his Guide, Shri Ram Chandra of Shahjahanpur (Babuji), the founder and first President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission.

After graduating with honours in 1980, he moved to the US and practised pharmacy in New York City, while also continuing the Raja Yoga system of Sahaj Marg, with great devotion. He continues to excel in both his material career and spiritual life.

Kamlesh continued to follow Parthasarathi Rajagopalachari (Chariji), the second President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission, after Babuji’s passing, and has held a number of increasingly responsible roles as well as offering his support to the growth of the Mission worldwide. In October 2011 he was proclaimed as Chariji’s successor, and in August 2012 was appointed Vice-President of SRCM with the full powers of the President, due to Chariji’s failing physical health. Following Chariji’s passing on the 20th of December 2014, he became the spiritual Guide of the Sahaj Marg system, and the third President of Shri Ram Chandra Mission. He is often endearingly referred to as Daaji.

Daaji and his wife have two sons. These days he is constantly travelling, conducting meditation with yogic transmission for seekers worldwide, and speaking at the Mission’s many centres and ashrams, as well as to the general public through newspaper articles, TV and radio. He is a vital role model for anyone wanting to evolve as a human being and expand consciousness. A spiritual catalyst, displaying the perfect blend of the Eastern heart and Western mind, he is able to connect with people from all walks of life and backgrounds, giving special attention to today’s youth.

Reading this book felt less like reading a book and more like sitting in a quiet, sincere conversation about life, purpose, and our deeper inner calling. Daaji continues the gentle, dialogical style from the first volume as this time in conversation with Elizabeth invites the reader into a journey of expanding consciousness that ultimately points toward the realization of oneness and the true purpose of human life.

✴️ What resonated deeply with me is how grounded and practical this book is, despite addressing such profound themes. Daaji does not speak from abstraction or philosophy alone rather he speaks from lived experience.

✴️ The book feels like a compassionate guide for anyone seeking transformation not by rejecting life as it is, but by refining how we live it. He addresses our beliefs, fears, limitations, and conditioning with clarity and patience, showing how inner change is possible while fully participating in family life, work, and everyday responsibilities.

✴️ The structure of the book unfolds thoughtfully. It begins with belief systems and how they shape our worldview, then gently moves toward questions that matter most: What is the goal of life? What attitudes must we cultivate? What kind of inner training is required? As the book progresses, each chapter builds upon the previous one, guiding the reader step by step toward unveiling deeper layers of Reality.

✴️ The second half of the book, in particular, highlights the inner qualities essential for spiritual growth qualities that are not imposed, but naturally awakened through sincere practice.

✴️ What makes this book stand apart is its emphasis on experience over theory. Daaji repeatedly reminds us that words are only pointers, not the destination. The contemplative practices of Heartfulness are explained with simplicity and humility, offering tools that feel accessible rather than intimidating.

If you’ve ever felt spiritually curious but emotionally confused, this can be the book for you.

✨There comes a phase in life when success, routines, and even self-help tips stop feeling enough. You’re not unhappy… but you’re not fulfilled either. You start questioning your beliefs, your reactions, your purpose. You want peace but not at the cost of disconnecting from real life.

📖 The Heartfulness Way: Volume 2 by Daaji speaks directly to this quiet, honest space within us.

✨This is not a preachy spiritual book. It’s a calm, reflective conversation about life, purpose, and inner clarity. If you’ve ever questioned what you believe, felt restless without knowing why, or searched for peace while continuing to live a normal, grounded life, this book meets you exactly where you are.

✨What makes this book powerful is its simplicity and practicality. Daaji talks about meditation, letting go, prayer, journaling, compassion, surrender, and constant inner connection, not as abstract concepts, but as experiences that can be integrated into everyday life.

✨It gently helps you understand the difference between belief and experience, effort and awareness, faith and blind acceptance.

✨While reading, many of my own questions around spirituality and emotional balance became clearer. The book doesn’t overwhelm you with ideas; instead, it removes confusion. It shifts your perspective and reminds you that realization isn’t dramatic or distant. It’s subtle, personal, and possible in this lifetime.

✨This one is Recommended for anyone exploring mindfulness, meditation, self-realization, or inner peace, especially those who want spiritual growth without stepping away from real life.

📚 A quiet shift from faith to experience.

I picked up this book expecting spiritual clarity. But it was way beyond that.

This book isn’t about collecting new beliefs; it’s about questioning the ones you already live by. The core message that stayed with me is simple yet uncomfortable: belief is only a starting point. If we stay attached to it, it can quietly become a limitation. That idea kept returning as I read, especially when the book spoke about how early conditioning and subconscious beliefs shape our sense of reality.

What I appreciated most was the tone. The writing doesn’t preach or try to impress. It unfolds through conversations and reflections, almost like someone thinking out loud with you. At times, the pace felt slow, and I did catch myself wanting more structure or concrete direction. But eventually, I realized that the slowness mirrors the book’s philosophy. It made me realise that real understanding can’t be rushed.

One insight that lingered was the emphasis on experience over explanation. There’s a quiet insistence that awe, silence, and direct inner experience dissolve beliefs more effectively than logic ever could.

Did it meet my expectations? It did but not in a dramatic way. This book didn’t give me answers instead it softened my need for them. That’s why it stayed with me long after I closed it.

What if the purpose of life was not something distant or unattainable, but quietly waiting to be realized within you?

The Heartfulness Way, Volume 2 by Daaji gently invites the reader into this deeply human question. Through profound yet simple conversations, Daaji demystifies God-realization, transforming it from an awe-filled abstraction into a lived, experiential journey. He speaks not as a distant philosopher, but as a compassionate guide who understands the doubts, struggles, and longing of modern seekers.

At the heart of the book lies the theme of Reality—not as an idea, but as awareness that unfolds through practice. Daaji maps the spiritual journey with clarity, addressing obstacles honestly and offering practical tools rooted in Heartfulness meditation. The second half of the book beautifully explores the inner qualities required for realization, encouraging humility, patience, and openness.

Born out of conversations during times of global uncertainty, this book feels timely and deeply comforting. Its message is simple yet transformative: the path is not complicated—it is heartfelt, sincere, and accessible to all.
