Caging Fire: Crimson Camo Series Book One

Rate this book
They thought she was prey. They never expected her fire.

Rowan Mills has survived by keeping one truth buried—she is an omega, rare and coveted, forced to suppress her nature in a world where discovery means possession. For years, she’s hidden in plain sight, clinging desperately to her freedom.

Until one routine checkpoint changes everything.

Exposed to an elite alpha military unit, Rowan is captured and claimed by four men who could not be more different—or more dangerous. Captain Cade Green, their commanding officer, is all sharp control and ruthless discipline, a man who demands obedience and accepts no defiance. His brother, Staff Sergeant Killian Green, is a scarred giant ruled by instinct, feared for his ferocity yet harboring a quiet, aching tenderness. Lieutenant Talon Grayson—a rare shifter—struggles beneath a fragile veneer of composure, the wolf within clawing to answer Rowan’s call. And Staff Sergeant Ryker Bennett is the unit’s tempter—shameless, dirty-mouthed, and endlessly teasing, a man who turns sin into a game Rowan is never sure she’ll win.

Forced into service alongside them, Rowan vows not to break, not to bend, not to surrender. Desire becomes a weapon, submission a battlefield, and Rowan finds herself torn between resisting their dominance and surrendering to the fire they ignite. She is determined to escape before she loses herself—and before the walls she’s built around her heart crumble. Because deep inside, locked away and waiting, are secrets even she never knew she carried…secrets that could change everything.

Dark. Addictive. Possessive. This is a story of control, power, and a woman who was never meant to submit.

hmmm

I understand this is the first book so I’m sure the characters will develop throughout the story but out of the four men, only one was likable- Killian. Cade- manipulated her emotions and controlled her constantly with his alpha bark even in sexual situations. Ryker would just laugh in her face constantly. Talon wasn’t around her too much in the story because of his situation he was going through. I feel like towards the end of the book they should have had some redeemable qualities for me to want to continue this series but I’m really not rooting for anyone at this point. The Fmc starts out seeming like she wants to be independent but the whole time she just takes what they give her which makes her seem so weak and again does not make me want to continue on with this series. I love smutty books but I was turned off too much by the characters (except Killian)

If you ever get the chance to read this book, honestly, skip it. There’s another one almost identical to it, and while it’s not amazing either, it’s at least slightly better (Feral Omega by Leonore Rosewood).

The heroine keeps saying she feels like a pet, someone who exists only to satisfy their desires… and she’s right. No one talks to her, no one cares about her feelings or her life; it’s all about how she needs to adapt. And what do they do to adapt to her? Absolutely nothing. There’s zero emotional connection, zero tenderness (except for the lastima pages with Killian) If you want a story about alphas who only hook up, cool—this is your book. But if you’re hoping for even a hint of humanity from these guys, you won’t find it here.

...

The alphas' sexism was too much for me.

I'm usually used to seeing micro machism in omegaverse books, but here it made me twice as angry because the FMC knew what was wrong and tried to fight for her BASIC human rights.

If it weren't for how misogynistic and idiotic Rowan's alphas were (except for Killian🩷), because they were constantly trying to punish her for fighting for her freedom and humanity, I would have liked it quite a bit...

Another thing I want to highlight about Killian (besides him being the hottest), is that she emphasized that he saw her differently than the others✨️ He saw her for who she was and not with lust like the other 3 alphas. Cade wanted to control her 24/7, Ryker wanted to have sex with her 24/7, and Talon, from what little he saw of her, even though they "connected" a bit due to their nature, only wanted BDSM with her 24/7.

I really liked the ending, Rowan deserved the opportunity to defend herself and stop feeling powerless.

Anyway, I'll read the second book when it comes out, hoping Rowan gets her revenge🎀

I could cry I disliked this so much. From the get go, ALL it is is insta-lust. I skimmed the entire book within a few hours just out of sheer curiosity and wish I hadn’t 🙃 TikTok book recommendations don’t lead me astray often, but it in fact did me dirty with this one.

No woman Rights

Basically, like in the 1800s before women had rights, the men dominated everything, and many things didn’t line up. For a dark romance, it’s not romance; it’s just lust. There is no love, just a fulfillment of a libido. These men use their “barks” for everything, making you do whatever they want, and you have no say.

Hardly any like able characters. I would say it has an interesting concept but the guys in this sucked. They were horrible to her and don’t feel an ounce of regret. She had a whole depressive episode because her one and only friend told her he wasn’t gonna be friends with her anymore and all they had to say to her is that they will punish her and called her a brat. I’m sorry what!!!! I hope that in the next book there’s better character development. Overall would not recommend.

Not as good as was hoping

Love omega/alpha books but this was just did not hit the mark for me. Main FMC feelings are completely over looked, the alphas just treat her as a sex toy and when she dares to have an opinion or an emotion they don't like they just spank her and totally over look everything she has said, I like more fight with my FMC, and them telling her what to wear, where to sit, when to eat and being sent to her room like child is to much. Unless the alphaholes change in the second book and the FMC grows a spine l will be giving it a miss

Has potential but left me wanting a LOT more

I really wanted to love this. I knew the triggers and I was excited for what this could have been. Let me say that it does have potential! There were brief glimpses of hope as the reader but they were far and few in between.

With Rowan hiding her entire life I love her defiance! She isn’t like other Omegas and I don’t mean that in a cliche pick me way either. She has fought hard to survive and her independence is admirable… until it no longer exists. Now I understand having her base instincts leading her emotions and decision making but this girl folded faster than a lawn chair in front of the men who were down right derogatory and NOT in a sexy way.

Enter 4 broody, dominate, and powerful alphas… yes emotional manipulation is on that list but there were few redeeming qualities about these guys until maybe 70% of the way into the book which is a very long time to still be turned off by majority of the main characters. I get that this is how they were purposefully written I do! But toeing that line is one thing and diving head first past it is another. They were condescending, misogynistic, and again extremely derogatory. BUT I can overlook that with the idea of an intensive character growth arc but the hardest part is how the FMC folded every. single. time. She claimed she hates them and that they will never touch her again and then the reader blinks and she’s dissolved into a swoony puddle. For someone who started off rather relatable she quickly devolved into a shell of the person she claimed to be. Emotional manipulation and obedience correction aside (because that barely happened) she just lived up to nothing..

NOW this has potential! I swear! The world building? Interesting! ABO + Shifter history and dynamics? Fascinating! The men showed mere glimpses of redemption but only towards the end and the twist piqued my curiosity. But we needed more of THAT! Every chapter felt liked forced smut and when there is so much potential left on the table it feels like a missed opportunity. So while book 1 was very hard to get through I do feel book 2 could dive deep into more of literally everything other than the smut and already be a huge improvement.

Ok I bamboozled myself, I usually try to read completed series but this is book 1 and idk when/ how many are the rest 😭😭😭 but it’s ok I’ll live 🥹🥹

Also if you liked this type of read, rec: Ghost Alpha Unit trilogy, Book 1 Feral Omega by Lenore Rosewood

Anyways! This is a dark dystopian paranormal omegaverse! Which is pretty cool and actually fits together very well! So basically the government is trying to control the alphas and omegas by requiring them to serve in the military and having them register with the government and dictate their lives and all the usual stuff in dystopian books. The twist in this is that while typically there aren’t shifters, some rare alphas do possess the gene and that is an anomaly that one of these alphas has. So of course the scientists are super into that and some pretty messed up experiments happen and they finally let him go but like the whole time you’re like?!?!? What are they gonna do with that info though 👀👀👀 and then enter the FMC! A hidden omega who is totally giving the scientists a drooling problem with all the tests they wanna do. BUT! The government has a rule

(A messed up rule) that the pack who captures deserter omegas can get first dibs. So of course, this is where the magic happens! Cade = control freak, Killian = teddy bear/baby boy, Ryker = bad boy/ trouble maker, Talon = puppy. Honestly I love these guys 😂 Killian is just 🥺 ugh I just wanna squeeze him and tell him he is enough 😭😭😭😭 love him! Although hate that it took him so long to stand up for Rowan 😤

This is a pretty quick paced book, it felt too quick and I would have liked a bit more meat in it I guess, but it wasn’t bad! I think where i also had an issue was the emotions of the characters, like I feel like I wanted a bit more depth sometimes, and not just surface? In terms of Rowan mostly, cuz it feels like she’s going 0-100 real quick every minute, but that’s also because of the suppressants and new body things, but 🤷🏽‍♀️

The spice!!! How there was so much in such a short book idk 😂😂 this was a medium burn with pretty high heat, they mark (bite), dub con, spanking, restraints, knotting, size difference, kinda body betrayalish.

❤️❤️❤️

If you're looking for a fun, mindless read, this book is for you! Rowan is our feisty yet immature Omega in hiding. In this world omegas are stripped of their wills and forced into an Alpha pack; they're also rare. She was hidden away by her father until he passed, and she had to make her own money to keep up with her Omega suppressants. This ofc leads her to getting caught by Alpha's Ryker, Cade, Killian, and their shifter packmate Talon (my personal fav). Cade is the leader and ultimate control junky of the group, which rowan loves SO much. Killian is his brother; he's basically a caveman. A man of few words that one. Talon is the serious one with a pain kink ;), and ofc we have our joker of the group, Ryker. Rowan hates all of them but still fucks them because of her Omega nature, her emotions are like a tornado, throwing debris of emotion straight at your face (or glassware IFKYK). She's kind of acts like a child; she's 26 I believe. I mean I don't blame her because she went from being a loner to being controlled, but can we at least try to have a conversation??? The boys are trying to be there for her and she's just screaming and crying, making demands. Let's sit down and have a normal conversation, yes? lmao. Any who, the ending was predictable, which I love. I needed a mindless read after finishing a crazy fantasy book.

The title suggests something dangerous and wild, ironically, the only thing raging here is my annoyance. This story feels less like 'fire' and more like a wet match. If you are looking for a nuanced take on the Omegaverse, keep looking.

The Story:
Enter (yet another) standard Omegaverse where Alphas rule, Betas serve, and Omegas are reduced to breeding stock. The FMC, Rowan, is an Omega who manages to hide for years before inevitably being captured by a quartet of Alphas—Ryker, Talon, Killian, and Cade. Because they caught her, they claim the rights to the pack bond and everything that entails. A plot we’ve seen a thousand times.

The story is bland, the writing is forgettable, and the dialogue reads like it was written by a horny teenager. My biggest gripe?

The Repetitiveness!!

The author seems to believe that repeating specific anatomical buzzwords equals heat. It does not.

There is a limit to how many times one can read about "knotting" before it loses all appeal and just becomes cringe-worthy. This book found that limit and sprinted past it. Scratch that, there is zero appeal!

If I have to read one more line about "knotted cocks" or a female character pitifully begging for it, I might scream. The obsession with the anatomy and the mechanics was not only excessive but frankly exhausting and nauseating. Bleh!!

Ok, so here's the deal- very dark elements in this book, and the beginning up to around the halfway mark DOES have MMCs that feel pretty irredeemable. That adjusts a little after the halfway point with the author knowing the MMCs need some character redemption to be appealing, so there's a lot of intrapersonal pages of reflection for main FMC where you can sort of get a better idea as to why it feels like she's passively allowing all these things to happen to her.

This was a fun ride, with some dark elements, but the emotional exploration felt underdeveloped for me. I like how there are some dystopian elements, including the fact that the entire alpha/omega system is actually a relatively new thing, and we get to see how a militarized society handles it.

First in the series so I am hoping for some character development as it is lacking at the moment.

Rowan is an omega who has been hiding since birth her father managed to pass her off an a beta and she has been taking suppressants and living on her own. In this world omega's are few and far between and they are taken at birth to basically become slaves to alphas it sounds like.

Cade is the leader of the unit and the pack he is a standard type A personality and loves punishment and rules. He manipulates Rowan and I don't love it.

Killian is quite sweet he has suffered a really bad injury and is recovering he is Cades half brother their father had an affair and he is the result. cades mother abused Killian and their father was not much better.

Ryker is annoying to be honest I normally like the soft golden retriever of the pack but really be is just obnoxious. He doesn't seem to care for Rowan at all.

Tally is a shifter and he is drawn more to Rowan than the rest and it becomes clear why at the end when we find our she is also a shifter. He hasn't spent much time with her as he was being tested on.

I got the struggle that Rowan was going through coming off the suppressants and having feelings she didnt understand. Also her want to be a person not a pet.

I think the overall idea of the book is good, but I feel like it wasn’t executed great. I read this on kindle, so I don’t know if a physical book is different, but the format was really odd. There were spelling and grammatical errors all throughout the book.

Now let’s get into the actual story. Rowan is secretly an omega and is caught by the military alpha group. The MMCs, honestly, are awful. Like, I totally love a possessive dude, especially in omegaverse, but these guys just suck. They basically give her zero time to get comfortable being in a pack setting, taking her completely away from her life, before they start being intimate with her. The spice is a fast burn and just doesn’t make sense to me. I like plot with my spice, and the plot fell short until the very end of the book. They want her submissive, but they do nothing but tease her and make her feel bad. They almost immediately start marking/claiming her, which I feel like is something that should happen after trust is established. She had no say in it at all, which I don’t love. I don’t know if I’m going to read the second book, which is disappointing. I got a promotional video on TikTok for the book and I really loved the fanart, which is why it’s been on my TBR. Hopefully the second book is better.

Super fun read.
A little dark. Military elements. Dystopian world. Omegaverse.

A deeply defiant FMC, and 4 very different possessive, controlling, HUGE Alphas.

Rowan has been hiding her Omega status her entire life, then she gets caught! All she wants to do is life her life, and now that is turned completely upside down!

Cade, Killian, Ryker and Talon are our dear Alphas.

Cade. The neat freak, controlling Alpha. Has an Alpha bark to put the rest to shame. Questionable morals. But we definitely see a bit of his caring nature slip thru.

Killian. The gentle giant himself. Huge guy. HUGE. Injured. With his own trauma. But he falls first. He wants to care for Rowan, stumbling a little, but being there in all the ways that count.

Ryker. He is the one who finds her, and is the jokester of the group. Always pushing buttons. Always pushing boundaries.

And Talon. Our shifter. He is battling his own inner beast, and some trauma. Most people are afraid of him, but Rowan…

Loved these characters and now different each MMC is form the other. That cliffhanger was brutal! Can’t wait to see what happens next!

This book absolutely fried my brain—in the best way possible. Set in a dystopian Omegaverse world of Alphas and Betas, with the added twist of wolves (which is not often we see), the story immediately pulled me in. I loved the dynamics between the four alpha men—distinct personalities, yet similar enough to feel cohesive and balanced.

The setup was strong, the world-building intriguing, and I found myself fully immersed from the start. The ending completely caught me off guard; I genuinely didn’t see it coming, and while I’m not a big fan of cliffhangers, this one definitely did its job.

Overall, this was a great read. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style, the emotional depth, and the way the story unfolded. Despite my dislike for cliffhangers, I’m definitely invested now and can’t wait to pick up the second book. I’ll absolutely be keeping an eye on this series.

See well here is the thing…..this is a quick read that is entertaining, but is it good??? Meh? I think I’m just not into the whole power imbalance thing and making a person property. This book does that. After being in bidding for years an suppressing her omega genes, she is discovered and claimed by 4 alphas. She is basically a prisoner and they don’t treat her very well, just wanting to claim and use her. Her body is all for it- because biology- but her logical brain knows better. I like why choose books where the girl is worshiped and cherished, not only claimed and used. This was good, but I don’t think I want to read book 2.

no just no. cool concept, not executed well. if i were to blindly guess the gender of the author i would say male. I had to force myself to finish this book, i was hoping for character development. i get the alpha crap, that’s why i was reading this book, but these men are insufferable jerks. almost no bodily autonomy for the protagonist, and this is from her “mates”. well written, good story line, horrendously awful male characters who made me want to puke. i’ve definitely read worse, if this is what you like that’s fine. but i wouldn’t recommend.

I got in the mood to read this book after I kept seeing sneak peeks of it on the authors page!!

I really liked this book. It was dark and amazing.

All the alphas were different! My fav has to be Killian. I love a quiet, rarely talks almost only to the FMC type of MMC!

The military part of the story made this even better. There’s a lot of secrets about everything and everyone.

Finding out about our FMC in the end had me shocked!!👀

This book ends at a cliffhanger and I can’t wait for the next book!!!!

DNF 25%…….. This was just too much. I really hate the scene where she was tied to the bed and force to go through all those medical tests. A force gyno appointment is pretty much assault. And the MMC just sat there barking at her……

The same MMC knows he’s father and mother abused his brother and permanently crippled him. But the first thought when he found an hidden omega is to go to the abuser? What forced me to stop is when they sent one of their own pack mate to this scientist who has been running tests on him for years once he lost control.

I loved this omega verse book with shifter elements thrown in but not all the MMc are shifters, only one is. The spice is good I’d say about a 3.5 on the spice detail wise but it was still hot as hell. I love the defiance Rowan has and the need she also has for these men she can’t fight. My favorite MMC is Killian hands down but Talon is coming in as a close second. I’m curious to see how the dominance unfolds. There is a plot twist and a cliff hanger at the end. Can’t wait for the next book to come out. It was a super quick read for me, read it all in one night

amazing!

Rowan is impossible not to love—strong, vulnerable, unforgettable. And the men? Cade’s control, Killian’s feral tenderness, Ryker’s dangerous charm, Talon’s barely leashed beast… I couldn’t stop turning pages.

The collar scene wrecked me. The heat is savage, the emotion raw. If you love dark romance, military alphas, and a why-choose that ruins you in the best way—this book is it.

A perfect why choose where you want all the men! They all have their own personality that fits them perfectly and makes you wishing they weren’t fictional characters.

A man in charge, a gentle giant, a cocky asshole you love, and a mysterious one that draws you in for more. Sign me up! 🥵

And Rowan is the FMC you love and curse at, at the same time! But that ending leaves you WANTING more. I can’t wait for book 2!

I absolutely loved this book! Spicy, hot and thrilling!
It draws you right into the storyline and depicts Rowan's struggles as a newly outed Omega in such a harsh and hostile environment wonderfully.
I hope to see more emotional development with her Alphas in book two! I want to see them all come together in the future 😊
And ewww, Dr. Zolkos is truly creepy.

After that ending, I truly can't wait for the next book!

So I will say Cade and Ryker are still irking me at this point and I’m hoping it’s something that gets addressed more as the plot continues sooner rather then later). This is a dystopian omegaverse future and I found the world building super interesting but I can def understand how the first half could be a turn off for a lot of people.

Still, I’m excited for the next one!
