Z archiwum egzorcysty. Prawdziwe historie demonicznych opętań

Rate this book
Adam Blai – współpracownik egzorcystów i uznany specjalista w dziedzinie opętań – otwiera przed czytelnikiem swoje osobiste archiwum. To nie fikcja, nie hollywoodzkie fantazje, lecz wstrząsające, prawdziwe relacje z egzorcyzmów, nawiedzeń i duchowych zmagań, w których stawką było ludzkie życie i dusza.

Autor odsłania przerażającą prawdę o zagrożeniach, jakie niosą praktyki okultystyczne, wicca, spirytualizm czy nurty New Age.

I ODWAGI, BY TĘ PRAWDĘ PRZYJĄĆ.

The Exorcism Files
By Adam Blai
This is supposed to be true accounts of possession and exorcisms from the author. Along the way, he describes what can lead a person to become possessed. He also had an example of a possessed object.
He tells his experiences with a couple of unusual exorcisms. He explains why layman should never try to perform the exorcism or even say the words of the exorcism.
It was an interesting book. Stuff like this is fascinating. I am not religious in any way, but I love a good spooky story. I would never risk doing something to get possessed, just in case! 😉

A quick and fascinating book about the author’s experience as a psychologist who found himself working in and alongside clergy to assist with possession and oppression. As a Catholic, this book hit very hard and likely solidified a lot of thoughts and beliefs I already had. I imagine someone following a belief system other than Christianity may find some of the author’s warnings as silly or dismissive. It’s not “preachy,” but rather comes from a point of view who has experienced persons involved with certain beliefs and certain hobbies lead to harm, spiritually speaking.

While I would’ve been curious to hear more stories of disproven occurrences and more background into why he’s been so trusted by faith leaders without being clergy, that didn’t really take away anything from the book. I loved it.

Adam Blai is very well versed in both sides of the argument “Are demons real?”. He started out only curious if demon possession was a clinical diagnosis for his psychiatric practice but with research learned a great deal more than just the answer to his question. He now assists the Catholic Church with determining if an exorcism is needed in cases. His experience is vast and this book takes a small snippet of it to explain the dangers of the devil. It is not a blueprint to learn how to do exorcisms nor a manual on how to talk to the dead. It is a very well explained introduction to and warning against the supernatural and the pitfalls of modern society taking it so leisurely. I highly advise reading this book if you want a starter on the supernatural and the Catholic Church’s response/history with it. It goes by fast and is easy to understand without previous Knowles of the area.

I'm struggling between three and four stars. What's there is good, but I wanted more. I wanted more detail on how the hauntings, oppressions, possessions gained entry, more detail on how they were vanquished and more clear suggestions for our own continued freedom. I suspect the straightforward, non-sensational writing style may reflect Mr.Blai's own approach to his job/mission.

In reading some of the comments I suspect there could have been a little more background explanation of the whole process. I've read other books about Christian exorcism and listen to the exorcist files so I have a pretty good basic idea, but without that background knowledge I can see how some of this would be more confusing.

I was given the opportunity to read this book for a research project in one of my theology classes. Blai shares his personal experiences delicately, as if he is walking on a frozen lake. But he remains firm in his beliefs and faith in God. He does not spend too much time on any one thing, especially when details become darker. He states everything as it happened, how people were impacted or involved by or in the supernatural and how their lives were changed.

I think it could have been helpful had he given an example of a case that was dismissed due to lack of evidence or a legitimate medical diagnosis. I don't know enough about this field though, so I could be misunderstanding how these cases work.

I also read this book from a Protestant worldview, so I can say that he seemed to explain how certain things work in the Catholic tradition well enough for me to understand them. Such as why a layperson should not perform exorcisms.

I was not totally expecting the references to the New Age Movement, but they provided confirmation that practices found within the New Age, such as Kundalini Yoga, are spiritually dangerous and should not be used alongside Christianity.

Several years ago, a patron (now deceased) called my work and told me there had been a haunted house in his Provo neighborhood. The occupants weren’t thrilled with the situation. According to the patron, “The LDS couldn’t get rid of it, a Protestant minister couldn’t get rid of it, but a Catholic priest got rid of it. What do you say to that?” I responded, “Well, I’m not going to argue with success. Perhaps Catholics have the inside skinny on dealing with these types of situations. After all, they train some of their priests especially for it.” The author of this book has a master’s in psychology and is a theological adviser for demonology and exorcism for the Pittsburgh Diocese. The book contains a number of cases he has been involved in. Simple to read and matter of fact. The author recommends people stay away from ouija boards, ghost hunting, necromancy, wicca, and any belief system that encourages self-worship. Many, but not all, of the related cases could be traced back to involvement in these activities.

I think the authors purpose was to warn people against behavior that open doors to the enemy. While he does through each story convey some of that message I found myself wishing he had been more direct in his focus. He tells true stories of his work with the Deliverance ministry. I wouldn’t want anyone to read these stories out of curiosity for they are meant as a warning . I feel he could have also warned more clearly to never engage with a demon directly , but to seek help through the Catholic Church with a priest trained in exorcism. The author mentions this, but a stronger warning is warranted.

Summary: A non-sensationalist, realistic portrait of exorcism.

Why I Read This: It was on my Audible. I do not remember downloading it, but I must have at some point? I'm trying to make my way through my Audible TBR.

Review: I am generally terrified of exorcisms. The idea of demons inhabiting a person is terrifying. But, I think that this book made me feel better because it showed the tools that the Lord gives to people to overcome demonic possession. So, I don't ever want myself or anyone else to be possessed, but God is God even in the literal darkness.

Look...as a ghost-hunting, yoga-practicing, child welfare advocate who has spent time exploring a lot of the things decried by this book, I'm either the exact target audience or the exact opposite. Adam is certainly entitled to his perspective, but I would have found this far more compelling if he had presented the case studies and then explained how he interprets them within the context of his beliefs. Instead, he asserts with authority things that cannot possibly be known by humans or demonstrated by science.

I have 20+ years experience researching the paranormal and 10 years working alongside law enforcement and child protective services in child abuse cases. I have seen no evidence of many of his "trust me, I have knowledge that I can only vaguely and terrifyingly describe here" assertions, particularly the idea that there is a rash of satanic cults breeding babies for sacrifice or that children are being ritually abused. He tells us in one section that they never learned what happened in a particular haunting/exorcism case, and then boldly asserts that humans were definitely involved in soliciting a spiritual attack on the victims.

i was given this as a gift.. it fits into the paranormal genre and i do love me some paranormal stuff.. the book is well written and the people he comes across are most definitely interesting.. what i didn't like was that being a clergy man, he is obviously very religious, very Catholic and seems a belittle other religions.. such as Wicca, anything that believes in anything other than God is dismissed.. and i have just never been a firm believer in demons/possession.. possession is a tough word for me.. possessed by demons? or possessed by a mental lack/deficiency ? i'm on the fence.. people answering questions in Latin/German etc - that makes me wonder..
not a bad book.. i mostly enjoyed the read. a quick read too..

warnings to pay attention too

Some of what is written, specifically catholic, I don’t believe is scriptural. Such as needing to go to confession. I confess my sin through Jesus Christ and I don’t believe Mary has special powers. But I do believe there are demons at work doing satan’s work to keep us from a personal relationship with Christ. It would behoove us to pay more attention

While the account was interesting and straightforward, the book seemed quite short. This is of course perfectly fine, except for the fact that I think it sacrificed kind of a lot of detail and only covered a few limited cases, while including some history about Catholic exorcism at the beginning and warnings at the end. It was interesting, but not fantastic.

Not everyone is saved

Anyone outside the clergy are placing themselves and their love ones in Danger playing around with the demonic. I'm amazed being catholic and married in a protestant family how they don't believe in such a subject. Like the way the author protected people.

Nice case summary

Book goes through an explanation of exorcism basics, then tells the author’s basic background and cases as he became an adjunct or helper as a psychologist and Catholic.

This book not only had vivid stories about demonic possession; but also how one can allow the devil to take control of our being. Also, illustrates the importance of having a healthy spiritual life with our Lord.

Quick read/listen but very interesting! I wouldn’t say this is wildly different than any other exorcism book I’ve read, but still learned new things. Last few chapters really blew my mind.

At times, the author favors the Catholic Church and some of its doctrines. However, it is worth reading. I do not recommend reading when you're too tired, it's late, or you're distracted.

Short and interesting. Some cases were more interesting than others, but if you’re looking for something really detailed, this isn’t it.

I found this book to be really interesting. I listened to the audio which I found engaging and easy to listen to.

There are a lot of sweeping questions addressed in this and I would have appreciate more detail. My biggest complaint with this overall was simply a lack of detail. Adam Blai gives so many examples but only at a surface level and I simply needed more information. I did like what he was willing to discuss and found that I learned a lot about the catholic perspective of exorcism, evil and what invites evil in - very interesting stuff. If you're looking for a gateway book into catholic exorcisms, I would highly recommend this.

I've always been skeptical of demonic possession still occurring in modern times. This book has forced me to learn more toward the side of it still taking place today. I won't say I'm 100% convinced, but I don't see any reason to doubt the author's stories of real demonic possession. There are just some circumstances that he describes that I don't believe can be explained naturally.

Fascinating and informative. Hard to put down. The author delicately shares his personal stories of exorcising demons. He cautions on what to avoid so as to not inadvertently invite evil into your life.

Kind of interesting and has some links to famous exorcists like the Warrens. Sadly, when all the names, places and dates are changed, it makes it sound far more anecdotal than detailed accounts of real supernatural phenomenon.
