After catching her food columnist boyfriend cheating, Andrea Wickham figured her Christmas was already ruined. But things go from bad to bah humbug when he publishes a vindictive review that throws her magical bakery’s busiest season into jeopardy. On top of that, she desperately needs to finish writing her third cookbook, and her creative muse has gone into early hibernation.

The hunker down in a cozy mountain hideaway, finish her enchanted cookbook, and absolutely, positively avoid all men.

The the townhome next door is a full-on construction zone and the contractor is an infuriatingly handsome man with a dimpled grin that has Andrea’s thoughts firmly on the naughty list.

Now Andrea’s caught between two worlds—her glittering LA life and the quiet charm of Maple Crossing, where one cinnamon roll of a man makes her wonder if she’s been looking for love in all the wrong places.

Can a city witch trade her stilettos for snow boots and still live happily ever after?

This was the perfect book for me right now!

Sweet (as in cookies and cupcakes)!
Hot (as in … we are definitely not even LOOKING at any guys on this self-inflicted escape from reality after getting seriously burned by her very recent ex!!). But then, there’s this really cute guy doing renovations on the place next door! 😮😳😘

Charming (as in… did I mention that the FMC is a witch? And she’s truly a sweetheart… like someone you’d want to be friends with… or work with…)

And, there’s a dog! (Crumpet) And… a black cat… who is a character all by himself!!!!

Andrea is a baker. She has a terrific business in LA! She has a great staff and some wonderful friends too!

She’s been dating a guy for a while and fully expects him to propose… someday soon. Until one day a text comes thru on his phone with a message and some kinky lingerie, saying they can’t wait to see him…be with him! 😳
She immediately breaks it off!

Unfortunately he writes reviews, and the next one he writes says how her bakery has gone downhill so much! And, she starts losing business, and orders…
She is so upset she doesn’t know what to do.

Then, her business partner suggests she should get out of town. After all, she has a deadline looming for her next cookbook to be published! (Of course, it has to be written first!)

She starts looking for places to go when she comes upon a house swap site…in Vermont. It looks perfect (but COLD!)

And so, off she goes. And, she loves it! She has her adorable dog, Crumpet, with her. And, the house comes with its own Black Cat! And what a piece of work he is!!

All is going well, until the next morning when this horrendous banging begins. Ends up that the place next door is having renovations done! While. She’s. There!

And…the handyman is HOT!
His name is Wes… and they hit it off pretty well!

That’s all I’m giving you! If it sounds like something you’d like, please look 👀 for it now! It was released earlier this week! (11/4/25!)

Super cute, with major Hallmark movie vibes. The Solstice Swap was the perfect escape from the world. The little witchy twist was lovely, and I’d definitely read the other title in the series.

The narration perfectly fit the story!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for the audiobook ARC!

This was such a cozy, feel-good story; perfect for curling up with a blanket and something sweet from the oven. The Solstice Swap delivers exactly what it promises: a warm, witchy rom-com with small-town charm and delicious cupcakes... aaaand a dash of winter magic.

Andrea, our FMC, heads to Vermont to escape a cheating ex and a holiday disaster at her magical bakery. What she finds instead is inspiration and an infuriatingly handsome contractor-next-door. The romance is clean, comforting and the vibe feels like The Holiday meets Sabrina. (I will miss Phantom ^^ )

That said, I wish the magic had been a bit more present. Andrea’s witchy side feels like background flavor instead of a full ingredient. And (heads up for readers) our contractor hero is a single dad, which was a sweet surprise but not something the blurb mentioned.

Still, this was a lovely, uplifting winter escape that made me crave cocoa, cupcakes and snow (especially since I live in Middle East :D) ...

This was quite cute, but not what I've expected. I've read several other series by the author, and they tend towards paranormal mystery. This was straight-up paranormal romance, featuring a Andrea, who's a witch and a wildly successful pastry chef in the magic world. Andrea thought she was headed for an engagement with a successful food critic, but instead she discovered he was cheating on her. After they broke up, her ex- attempted to destroy her career by panning her business.

The book is set before Christmas and we get our big-city pastry chef doing a house-swap with a witch in a small Vermont town. There, Andrea figures she can write her latest cookbook, recover from her breakup, and move ahead with her life. What she didn't plan on (but anyone who has watched any Hallmark holiday romances would expect) was to fall in love with a gorgeous local contractor. Oh, but did I mention there's also a talking cat in the bargain?

If you loved The Holiday and love witchy vibes, this book is for you!

After a string of events in her cozy witch town, Andrea and her friend, swap homes for the holiday, Andrea going to Vermont. There she is to rest and work on her cookbook, but to her surprise, there is construction going on next door that threatens her peace.

This book is adorably cute and entertaining in all the best ways. There is the cozy vibes, the witch vibes, and a little bit of Holiday fun. There’s also a hysterically funny talking cat that gives much needed comic relief.

Story was slow to start, but quickly picks up pace and soon you are immersed in Andrea’s story. Characters are well written as well as the story and I never found myself bored or in a lull. Narration was great! Overall a wonderful and delightful read/listen.

Oh my gods this was the perfect comfy, cozy, witchy book. It felt truly nostalgic and made me want to go to a place that doesn't exist. 😭
I felt like it was the perfect shorter romance and the author did a fantastic job on all of the characters, down to the talking familiar cat.

My all time favorite movie ever in the whole world, The Holiday, but add a bit of magic?! HELL YES!! SIGN ME UP!!✨🎄 5⭐️ For pure joy and good vibes. Is it the same as every Hallmark holiday romance? Sure. But isn’t that why we love them?! Duh! Now excuse me while I go watch Cameron Diaz and Jude Law fall in love just like Andrea & Wes 😘 Already excited for witchy Kate Winslets side of the story in 2026. ✨❄️

I was surprised when I found out this was just a paranormal romance since I’ve only read the cozy mysteries. I loved the MCs together and the development of their attraction, but I felt that as a Romance, it was lacking. The final act drama was completely uninteresting (if the focus was intended to be the romance) since it was entirely unrelated to the romance. Also, I’m not sure I like “The Holiday” movie split into two books but I’m willing to find out and read the next when it’s released.

The Solstice Swap is a magical twist on The Holiday, and it’s just as cozy as a mug of cocoa.

Andrea is the owner of the premiere patisserie Sunset Sweets in Hecate’s Kitchen, the magical quarter inside of LA. She has the life she has always dreamed of: a cookbook deal, a beautiful home, and a successful business. But then, Andrea discovers her food-critic boyfriend has been cheating, and to add insult to injury, he trashes her holiday menu in his latest food column, calling it “uninspired” and dull. After losing a bet with her business manager, Paige, and at the insistence of her best friend Lainey, Andrea looks to book a Christmas getaway to finish her upcoming cookbook and relax.

While Andrea is searching for last-minute Christmas getaways, she is directed to a magical house swap site, available only to witches. She finds a home available in Maple Grove, Vermont, and after a quick FaceTime with the owner, Maren, Andrea is on her way to New England with her dog.

Upon arriving in Maple Grove, Andrea discovers that Maren’s home comes with a bit more amenities than advertised, including a talking cat and a rather handsome contractor working on a neighboring unit.

The pros:
- I loved this audiobook! The narrator captured Andrea’s voice perfectly, and I wasn’t put-off by her voices for other characters.

- The plot was predictable, yet satisfying, and overall the book felt like a cozy pair of slippers on a cold winter day.
- I’m a sucker for a book set in Vermont.

The misses:
- this book was advertised as being Practical Magic meets The Holiday, and I’m starting to feel like those are BookTok’s new buzzwords given how much people love Practical Magic and The Holiday (and rightfully so). Sure, there’s a house swap, but I kept waiting for Maren’s POV. I felt like the book could have been greatly improved from a dual romance POV.
- Similarly, the magical elements in this book were very minimal in that they didn’t revolve around the plot. Aside from the talking cat and the magical quarter inside of LA, it felt a bit like an afterthought. (Also the huge plot point of Practical Magic literally deals with saving one sister, banishing the evil spirit of a serial killer, and embracing the divine magic of sisterhood and femininity. It’s not a cozy little catch all genre for witchy books!)
- There were some plot lines that I felt were left unexplored, and that frustrated me. The plot with Tilda, Wes’s mom, was small, but filled with tension, but was a huge nothing-burger. It could have been left out or she could have been more welcoming to Andrea. We didn’t even see Tilda in the epilogue. It felt sloppy, to be honest.

This book was sugar (no spice) and everything nice! This book was about as spicy as a sugar cookie, so don’t expect Mexican hot chocolate levels of spice.

Quick Summary: A super secret surprise, found family romance

My Review: The Solstice Swap by Danielle Garrett is book #1 of 2 in The Solstice Swap Duology. It was released on 11/4/25.

About the Book: "After catching her food columnist boyfriend cheating, Andrea Wickham figured her Christmas was already ruined. But things go from bad to bah humbug..."

In My Own Words: A magical witch with a talent for baking sweet treats finds herself in a picture perfect small town, where she meets a host of characters who charm her and show her what family and community are all about.

About the Characters: I adored the lead characters in this book. That includes the Wes' high energy daughter, the adorable doggie, and the funny-ha-ha talking cat. What fun!

About the Conflict: Although the conflict in this story was very light, there were external pressures that touched both main characters. The will they/won't they conflict points worked and kept me guessing until the end.

About the Audiobook: This novel was narrated by Amanda Ronconi. I compliment her on a job well done. The presentation was so insanely good that I didn't want it to end. I was hanging onto every single word. She delivered it with such an easy and entertaining flow. The character voices blended nicely.

My Final Say: This was a delightful read. I thoroughly enjoyed the listening experience. It was a story with heart, joy, magic, and love. I cannot wait to read book #2!

Other: Readers who enjoy family-rich stories, single dad life & love stories, and cozy supernatural romance stories will like this novel.

**The Solstice Swap** is the kind of witchy romantic comedy that immediately wraps you up in warmth and comfort, like settling in with a mug of hot cocoa and something sweet from the oven. It delivers exactly what I hoped for—a festive, heartwarming escape filled with holiday coziness and just the right sprinkle of magic.

We follow Andrea Wickham, a witch and magical baker whose holiday season is unraveling thanks to a cheating ex and a harsh review that threatens her beloved bakery. In need of inspiration to finish her cookbook, Andrea trades the glitz of Los Angeles for a house swap in snowy Maple Crossing, Vermont. Her resolve to avoid romance is quickly tested by her next-door neighbor—a charming contractor with a dimpled grin who is impossible to ignore.

The romance here is sweet, comforting, and brimming with festive charm. I loved the dynamic between Andrea, the city witch, and her endearing handyman neighbor—their close-proximity banter gave me all the cozy, feel-good vibes of *The Holiday* mixed with a dash of *Sabrina the Teenage Witch*. The atmosphere is pure comfort, and I found myself smiling through the entire book. (And I have to say, Andrea's talking cat, Phantom, completely stole my heart—I’ll definitely miss him!)

If I had one small wish, it would be for the witchy elements to take a more central role—Andrea’s magic is a lovely touch, but at times it felt more like a gentle background note than a driving force in the story. Also, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the contractor hero is a single dad, which added an extra layer of warmth and heart to the story, even though it isn’t mentioned in the blurb.

The audiobook narration by Amanda Ronconi was a true delight—she brought both Andrea and the contractor to life with warmth and personality, and her tone perfectly captured the festive, magical spirit of the story. Listening to her narration made the cozy atmosphere even more immersive.

This was such a delightful read!

Andrea was a great FMC and I totally felt for her and everything she was going through. I liked that the witchy side of things was a little more minimal in this book too and we focused more on her and her baking. (Don't worry, there is still some fun magic!)

The small town charm is full force in this Christmassy book! I liked all the townsfolks and local cafes and bars. So cute! And hot - AKA Wes! Wes is the contractor + love interest and they had such good banter and chemistry together. I loved Andrea and Wes's romance. There isn't any of that secret dating or messy breakup stuff, it's super sweet. The plot drama is focused on Andrea's business rather than the relationship.

Phantom was so funny. He's a snarky, sassy, and oh so dramatic talking cat familiar. If you've read any of Danielle Garrett's other books he's essentially a cross between Flapjack and Selene. And yes, he's obsessed with fish. I liked the dynamic he had with Andrea too since he wasn't even technically her cat but he was still so sarcastic with her like he didn't give a care in the world.

In addition to Phantom we have Crumpet! Crumpet is Andrea's dog and while he doesn't talk, he still has so much personality. He is truly the best boy.

As someone who's lived in LA for 10-15 years, the way Andrea talked about LA was odd. I'm chalking it up to this being written by someone who probably hasn't lived here before and it's got that Hallmark camp like when someone writes a small-town book/movie and the Sheriff is constantly handling things when in reality that wouldn't happen. It didn't mess with my enjoyment but if you've lived in LA it might stick out to you too.

The patisserie drama was a really great overarching plotline and it definitely brought on the holiday Hallmarky cuteness! It felt like the "We have to save the bakery by Christmas" theme and I loved that.

Thank you to Danielle Garrett for the gifted copy of the book :)

Andrea is living her best life, she owns her own bakery, has been featured on a cooking competition that she won, and is ready to publish her third cookbook. Then, it all falls apart as she finds out her boyfriend has been cheating on her, she loses her mind on him, and he decides to sabotage her career by publishing a terrible review of her business (as he is a food columunist). The nerve!!! Did I mention Andrea is a witch?? She lives in a magically protected town of Hekate's Kitchen. She is obsessively worried about the reviews, meeting her next deadline, and keeping her business afloat as cancellations start to pour in after the bad review.

Her friends suggest that she unplugs and goes on a vacation to not focus on the things that are out of her control, the only reason she agrees is she does feel this will help her focus on her cookbook. She decides to do a house swap with another witch and finds herself in a cute, small town. One of my favorite characters, the talking cat, added an element of humor and sarcasm to the story that was so cute and fun. She mets a contractor, Wes, who is working on an emergent build right next to her cabin. She finds herself continually drawn to him, and he obviously is into her too. The more time she spends with Wes, the less time she is thinking about her business, which is so out of her element!

When trouble strikes again with her business, she has to really reevaluate what is important to her, how her priorities may have changed, and finds herself being pulled in two different directions. The narration was EXCELLENT! Pacing and expression was so on point!

I haven't heard much about this book - but I LOVED it! The perfect November read blending witchy behavior with holiday spirit!

It's not a stretch to say that The Solstice Swap reminded me of the move The Holiday, starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. Only in The Solstice Swap, we're getting one half of the story, think all Cameron and just a glimpse of Kate. (Plus magic, which always makes things more interesting.)

Andrea is an LA based bakery owner/witch/cookbook writer and winner of a big baking show that has given her a lot of success. Things start to unravel for her when she discovers that her long term boyfriend, who is a food writer; has been cheating on her, then he writes a bad review of her bakery which causes people to start cancelling their holiday orders. The icing on the cake is that she's on a deadline for her next cookbook and things are looking bleak. Deciding to get away to focus on her cookbook she finds a witchy home sharing website and finds a great place in Vermont to swap for her own LA home.

Along with her dog Crumpet, Andrea arrives in Vermont. Her rental is charming, although there's a talking cat that her swap-mate wasn't entirely transparent on. Plus, there's all kinds of racket next door that's super distracting. But day by day, Andrea starts to get into her groove with the help of Wes, a hunky carpenter and his ten year old daughter Emma. I also credit the talking cat, who I think worked some kind of Jedi mind magic on Andrea.

This is a great story, with enough angst to give you the feels but not too much. I agree with my fellow readers who have written reviews comparing this to a Hallmark holiday movie. The magic element isn't a big part of the story, just a fun fact about our heroine and where she lives.

I'm really looking forward to reading the other story in this duo, for Maren, it comes out in November 2026. I listened to this on audiobook, Amanda Ronconi did a great job narrating. Highly recommend!

Comfort wrapped around this story almost immediately, the kind that makes you want to curl up and stay there a while. The premise leaned into magical mishaps and second chances, using a seasonal shift to explore identity, choice, and what happens when you are forced to walk in someone else’s shoes. The tone stayed cosy and playful, but it also carried a surprising amount of heart. Themes of self discovery, belonging, and trusting your own instincts were woven in naturally without slowing the story down.

The storytelling flowed effortlessly, making it easy to sink into and hard to put down. Pacing was spot on, giving the magical elements room to breathe while keeping the momentum moving. Characters felt warm and fully realised, especially in how their growth unfolded through small, meaningful moments rather than dramatic leaps. Dialogue was charming and purposeful, and the emotional impact came from watching relationships shift and deepen as understanding grew. The atmosphere was one of the book’s biggest strengths, wrapping magic, seasonality, and comfort into something that felt genuinely inviting.

What really worked for me was how confidently it embraced its tropes and made them feel fresh. Magical swaps, cosy settings, found family, and gentle romance were all in play, but they were handled with care rather than cliché. It delivered exactly what it promised by being charming, immersive, and deeply satisfying. By the end, I felt content in the best way, the kind of feeling that makes you immediately want to recommend it and maybe even reread it when the season rolls around again.

The Holiday meets Practical Magic

🍪A fun holiday read sure to put a cheerful spell on you! 🍪

Andrea has experienced massive success as a baker. She has won a television competition, opened a popular bakery, and written two cookbooks with another in the works. However, her cheating slimeball of an ex writes a foodie column and he slammed her bakery during peak holiday season. When large account holders begin to pull their orders, it adds to the stress Andrea was already feeling. She decides to swap houses with another witch on the opposite coast trading sunshine for snow hoping to spark creativity for the book of cupcake recipes her editor is hounding her for. She doesn't expect the townhouse next door to be undergoing construction, but all isn't lost because the contractor is hot enough to melt all the Vermont snow. This house swap is looking like the best kind of holiday magic.

There is more depth to this story than I alluded to, but I don't want to give anything away. Also, whatever I was expecting this exceeded my expectations. The audiobook was fantastic with a wide array of characters including a happy pup and sarcastic cat. I liked that Andrea's baking wasn't easy for her. She really had to dig in and work for it. I appreciate when characters have to earn their glory and this woman definitely did. There's more to each facet of Andrea's story which I liked. I also liked how we discover each tidbit in a natural progression no info dumps here.

❄️🎄A cute one for the holidays!!🎄❄️

**Review of *The Solstice Swap***
by Danielle Garrett
Narrated by Amanda Ronconi
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5 for both writing and narration)

This clean, holiday witchy romance was an absolute delight—simple, creative, and full of cozy charm.

Andrea Wickham is stretched thin, juggling her bakery business during a crisis while struggling to finish her third cookbook before the final deadline. Her business manager insists she take a break and focus on writing, offering to handle the bakery in her absence. While searching for a change of scenery, Andrea arranges a house swap with a woman from Vermont—and that’s where the magic begins.

I have to give a special shoutout to the hilarious housemate cat who comes with the Vermont cottage—pure comedic gold and a great addition to the story!

Then there’s Wes, a local construction worker whose life turns upside down when Andrea arrives in town. Their first meeting at a coffee shop, followed by another encounter on his job site, sparks a friendship that naturally blossoms into something more in this heartwarming holiday romance.

The audacity of the antagonists will definitely bring out the inner witch in every reader—but it makes the story all the more satisfying.

I absolutely loved this book. It came at just the right time for me—I needed a story with a happy ending, a cinnamon-roll hero, and a capable, grounded heroine. The snowy Vermont backdrop was the perfect touch for a magical Christmas read.

With a vindictive ex trying to ruin Andreas bakery and baking books, she is suffering cancellations. This is Christmas time, a time when all bakeries are busy. Her co-workers encourage her to take a trip, relax, something she never does. Checking house swap options she finds on in the mountains owned by a quiet sweet lady her age. She heads out with her dog for a three week vacation where she plans to create new cupcake flavors for her book. When she gets there, there is a cat, Phantom who can not only talk, but is snarky as well. There is construction going on next door, so she realizes quiet is no longer on the table. Asking the contractor to start later in the day, well, that is going no where. Wes is nice and not bad on the eyes either. She heads to the pub in hopes of bumping into him, and she does. They eat, have a drink and play dots before saying good night. The bet in darts, since she lost she has to bake him cupcakes. Long story short this is an adorable romance between a single dad who is not magical and a very single Andrea, a witch. Her vacation is in a non magical community. As they fall for each other there are many questions, like how can it work out, her magic, his adorable little girl and her live in grandmother? In true Danielle Garrett this is a difenate feel good clean romance.

The perfect cosy combination of witchy vibes and Christmastime.

Andrea is reeling from her cheating ex and his totally off-base review of her beloved bakery. With her third cookbook overdue with the publisher and the stressful holiday season ramping up she is convinced that a house swap getaway to a small wintery town may be just the ticket to get her life back on track.

She heads off to Maple Crossing to work in peace. What she doesn't expect? Meeting Wes, the cute single dad contractor with a winning smile and a tender word for her at every turn.

Oh boy I was skipping around listening to this ALC, just soaking in the joyful little town, Crumpet the adorable Terrier and Phantom the grumpy talking cat, the Christmas activities, the little bits of witchy magic, the wholesome moments between Andrea & Wes and Wes' adorable daughter Emma. Also loved her friendship with Lainey, she was a ride-or-die bestie, particularly when it came to propping Andy up after her recent awful experiences.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for this ALC, it felt like a warm hug.

Really enjoyed Amanda Ronconi's narration, she has perfect pacing and varied cadence. And there were little moments of humour with the writing style that she emphasised really well, I was under the impression she had fun recording this one!

Imagine Holiday (the movie - the one with Cameron Diaz and Jude Law) but add a pinch of magic, this is the book.

Andi (Andrea) cupcake extraordinaire, she won baking shows, has a shop, has cookbooks and all seems to be ok, until her boyfriend cheated on her. To top that cupcake, he's a food writer and trashed her shop and clients are pulling orders after that scathing review. Meanwhile, she has a cookbook deadline looming and while she thought her girl gang of her business manager and her bff got her back, and they suggest her take some time off and work on the book.

She did a house swap and landed in a small little town. Met a kind, handsome, and well mannered contractor. And he is a widow and has a daughter.... oooh dynamics!

There's alot like the movie, Holiday. But this book also talk about her business. That piece was obvious and no-brainer. There were time that it felt like the author dwelled on that a tad too long. We are totally on Andrea's side though. You see she finally grounded herself and all the fun she starting to have. It has angsty part, so it's a fun holiday read. Though, I do encourage getting the audio book. The narrator made it fun from the get-go and hooked me to it.

Thank you NetGalley & Dreamscape Select for the audio ARC.

This was an extremely enjoyable audiobook to listen to over the holidays! There is humor, sweet times, magic cooking, a chance to find love after a completely awful ex, and new beginnings. Plus a cat that talks!

I have never been disappointed with a book that Danielle Garrett writes and if you are looking for a cozy love story with magic as well as finding the place where you belong, then this book is for you. Andrea is an amazing cook, and witch. looking for a change of scene for the holidays to finish a cupcake cookbook and get some space from her ex and the troubles he is causing for her restaurant. I love the idea of a house holiday swap between witches, especially if it leads to inspiration for recipes, meeting up with the cute foreman doing reno next door, and finding the happiness she deserves.

I am so happy that I got the chance to listen to this audiobook which really got me in the mood for cozy holiday happenings. The narrator, Amanda Ronconi, did an amazing job if bringing this story and the characters to life. And while it works really well as a standalone, I am intrigued to see Marren's side of the this holiday house swap!

Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Select, and Roots & Wings Press for the advance audiobook.

This was cozy, witchy fun. Exactly what I wanted while existing in late stage winter and pretending my to do list didn’t exist.

The premise is simple but effective. A magical solstice mishap leads to an identity swap, chaos ensues, feelings happen, lessons are learned. Is it predictable? Sure. Did I still enjoy it? Absolutely.

The vibes carry this one. Small town magic, seasonal rituals, gentle romance, and that comforting sense that everything will work out even if the spell goes sideways first. It’s warm without being saccharine, whimsical without being annoying, and easy to settle into.

The audiobook narration by Amanda Ronconi was solid and easy to follow. This is great background listening for chores, baking, or staring out a window pretending you live somewhere with a town square and a coven.

Three stars. A cozy seasonal palate cleanser and a reminder that low stakes joy still counts.

This was such a cute, heartwarming and just overall great read! If you love the movie The Holiday, and witches, this book is for you - mentions of both are what caught my interest. I do feel the specific mention of Practical Magic does not fit, but witches being in this is true. The characters were interesting, the story sweet, and overall I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely romance. The fact that there was witches and magic was very secondary, but played a role nonetheless. Just a truly great read, and just what I needed after a heavier series I finished yesterday. I did find it odd how one character was never mentioned after a certain point in the book. I suppose they were just there for some tension, but with no follow through one way or the other it is hard to say. I did not let this impact my enjoyment of the book overall.

My only disappointment was that the other holiday house swapper’s story is not out yet. So, my mistake in thinking this was a completed duology. I will be putting the sequel on my TBR to read when it comes out in November.

Andrea, a bakery owner, decides to swap homes for the holidays after receiving a negative review from her vengeful ex-boyfriend. She trades her sunny LA lifestyle for snowy Vermont with Marion — whose cozy home comes with a resident cat named Phantom. Armed with her adorable dog, Crumpet, Andrea is ready to finish her cookbook and get into the holiday spirit.

I really enjoyed the cozy, heartwarming vibes of this audiobook. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing both the male and female characters to life, and their tone perfectly matched the festive charm of the story.

My only wish is that the book leaned a bit more into the magical elements it hinted at — I would’ve loved to see that explored further.

If you’re looking for a sweet, feel-good holiday romance to warm your heart, definitely add this one to your reading list!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Solstice Swap was such a great Christmas rom-com book. I had a ton of fun with this one which I'm not surprised because I love everything Danielle Garrett writes.

This book was packed with Christmas activities, some drama, and a romance of course. The main character, Andrea, was a likeable main character who runs her own magical bakery and writes cookbooks.

I really enjoyed the romance in this because it wasn't love or lust at first sight. There as attraction of course but it wasn't over the top like some are. Their first date was hilarious in the beginning. I couldn't help thinking during it though how other authors would use what happens as something terrible. The romance is just so sweet and the fact that they talk and get to know each other was a huge plus for me. You don't get that a whole lot!

I am looking forward to reading the second in this series from the other house swappers adventures at Hecate's Kitchen!

This would have been a solid 4 stars book for me if it wasn’t for two things I just couldn’t get over. I still don’t get what was the point of this book being about witches - take away the witchy aspect and the book will not miss anything, because the magic literally contributed ZERO to the story. I was also unable to suspend my disbelief enough to believe that a bunch of corporate clients canceled orders 3 WEEKS before Christmas over one review from someone who wasn’t made out to be anyone important to begin with. I kept thinking how these clients are sure very optimistic about finding another bakery to fill their orders three WEEKS before Christmas 🤣

Other than that, I did truly enjoyed this book. I liked both main characters and I appreciated that the big third act “breakup” did not involve misunderstandings. They actually talked to each other. The heroine did not have to give up anything of herself either, such as her business, to be with the hero.
